Women and Muslim Society

Hello! I believe you deleted the article I posted in the Women and Muslim Society. I can cite NUMEROUS sources for my addendum. I thought that we were allowed to add content to Wikipedia. Was I incorrect? My email is [email protected] if you would care to reply. Thanks, Damon —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Idahobeef (talkcontribs) 03:24, April 1, 2007 (UTC)

Hi there. I undid your addition of content that was unsourced and wasn't neutral point-of-view. If you have a source for it, feel free to add it back. Please see WP:A and WP:NPOV. Let me know if you have any further questions. Flyguy649talkcontribs 03:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Operationmajoritypower's did not merit warnings

Hi. You gave Operationmajoritypower a uw-error2 warning for this edit[1] and a uw-error3 warning for this edit.[2]

If you look closely at those edits, you'll see that all this user did was reverse the order of the African American and white population numbers. See his explanations at Talk:Mullins, South Carolina and Talk:Orangeburg, South Carolina. Whether or not you agree with these editorial changes, they're not vandalism. I encourage you to consider striking through or erasing your warnings.

Thanks for your consideration. --A. B. (talk) 17:43, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The error notices were indeed given in error; I had mis-read the edits as swapping the percentages, rather than changing the order (perhaps as an April Fools prank). I have removed the userpage warnings, apologized to the user, and restored the one instance where the user's changes hadn't been fixed. I will leave notes on the two talk pages you mention above. Thank you. Quite pissed me off when I reload the page and there sits my name called before a jury! I've used the nickname for a long time, and kept it when I started with Wikipedia because it really couldn't be taken any way other than the region. RFCN

Response to a comment on this user's talk page at User talk:Wooyi#New style of RFCN

Thank you for coming up with the idea and posting on the RFCN talk page as well. I confronted with RFCN page first time when I was going through my fellow editor Tohru Honda13's contribution for her RFA nomination, and when I saw RFCN I found the discussion board horrendously flawed. I hope the proposal gets implemented sooner so less people will get mad at it. Cheers! Wooyi 18:30, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but it was User:Ryanpostlethwaite who came up with it. I merely agreed. Regardless, it's a good idea. Cheers, Flyguy649talkcontribs 18:34, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Suitability for a checkuser request?

Re: my query at User_talk:Luna_Santin/Archive_24#Suitability_for_a_checkuser_request.3F for Torrisholme vandal checkuser-IPCheck. Hmm... sounds like a sticky situation, certainly. The older accounts will probably be stale (too old to check), but it couldn't hurt to submit a request for IP check (and perhaps blocking), if these guys are a persistent problem. If you need any help with that, feel free to let me know. – Luna Santin (talk) 05:26, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I left a note on the creator of this page's talk page here.

Hello, I am new to wikipedia. I was wondering if you could untag "MBAs Without Borders" as having too many buzzwords. Its basically just a broad summary of what that organization does, and broadly put, how they do it. Also, could you make recommendations on how to clean it up a little more to meet wikipedia standards? Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aleinwan (talkcontribs) 06:16, April 11, 2007 (UTC) r

Please introduce yourself first

Thanks for your "thank you" introduction,but under what power are you deleting my references? We have free speech in Internet and an opportunity of sharing our opinion about the specific topics.There are numerous wrong statements in the chapter Persecution in Azerbaijan which need to be corrected.In order to be objective and for the purpose of widening the knowldge of the reader,I provided the link to http://www.human.az/ which contains the report from Human Rights Report.Why on Earth are you deleting this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Befairtoturks (talkcontribs) 03:01, 13 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Actually, I didn't do any of the reversions, as you can see from the article's Page History. One of Wikipedia's guidelines is WP:BOLD, but your additions were reverted four times, which must be happening for a reason. Your posts, combined with your username, suggested that you are not adding WP:NPOV material. In addition, your changes ([3], [4], [5], and [6]) were removing sourced material on Anti-Armenianism. I gave you a level 1 warning to draw your attention to policy. It is preferable to make significant changes, especially if they are getting reverted, by discussing them first on the article's talk page. As for "free speech on the Internet," I suggest you read Wikipedia's policies. Start with WP:FREE, and WP:NOT#SOAP. Also look at the the five core policies, WP:5. I realize articles on historic wrongs committed (or allegedly committed) by one group tend to draw strong opinions, and tend to develop a point of view. Your additions may be valuable contributions; just please frame them correctly. It also helps when you make changes to use the Edit summary box to leave a brief note as to what you are changing and why. If it's a major change, leave an note to look at the talk page, and then discuss it there.Flyguy649talkcontribs 03:22, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Notability

Possibly, about the individual members, but the band The Hungry Hungry Hypocrites is notable. Ebang 03:34, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, he's been around since 2005 (despite a lack of edits), and the previous edits seem to be unrelated to the band (never mind, just saw Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Hungry Hungry Hypocrites), so I figure the account was compromised. However, Luna Santin did the actual block. --Coredesat 04:24, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Torrisholme vandals

Yeah, I'd go ahead and do that. They're obviously sock or meatpuppets, which can be treated the same for blocking purposes. I didn't even realize there were a bunch of them. Natalie 17:32, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really sure what the process is for sockpuppet IPs. At WP:SOCK, though, there is a template for sock IPs that might be helpful. I'll block the accounts you listed. Natalie 18:59, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet tagging

Hello Flyguy649. I noticed you tagged a blocked user as a sockpuppet, but did not indicate that the user was blocked. Did you know that the sockpuppet templates can indicate a block themselves? For example:

Usage Code
Not blocked {{sockpuppet|username}}
Blocked (suspected) {{sockpuppet|username|blocked}}
Blocked (confirmed) {{sockpuppet|username|confirmed}}
Blocked (proven by CheckUser) {{sockpuppetCheckuser|username|checkuser subpage}}

Thanks. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 20:27:58, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I didn't delete it; only an administrator can do that. I changed the page to redirect to potato chips#Regional Varieties since that's where there's information about ketchup chips already. Here's a link to the page as it was immediately before the redirect [10]]. If you feel strongly that you can make the page an article in its own right, go ahead and change it back. Just please be sure to make the article is referenced and not original research. Flyguy649talkcontribs 03:53, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am telling you daniel W Kou likes to eat them. He is a famous rapper. Just because he is rude doesnt mean his page doesn't "merit" a page. They are a part of canadian culture. trust me! It deserves its own page. He eats lots of them. I think that these chips are so good, that they should have their own site. He is a true canadian guy. Question

What is your problem with the Destructive Forces article? I have rewriten the article so that it is not "like" created by the creator of Destructive Forces. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mr roces (talkcontribs) 06:40, April 23, 2007 (UTC)

All I did was revert your changes. You had changed the page to a redirect, which also removed the AfD notice [11] on the page. The tag specifically states not to remove the AfD notice. Also the redirect you created redirected the page to itself. As for the AfD itself, I haven't said anything. Looking at the changes you made (without the redirect part), I'd say that the article still does not assert notability per WP:SOFTWARE, and that it is unsourced. Thus, as it stands, it is a candidate for deletion. Flyguy649talkcontribs 06:48, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why cant a person make an article on something that has not ever been used. For example Gongoozle is a word that doesn't exist but then why cant someone use it to write up a bullshit article. it doesnt hurt anyone and im sure that if someone actually has a legitamate useage of the word Gongoozle im sure they would be fine with removing it. Subtle-knife 12:22, 24 April 2007 (UTC)subtle-knife[reply]

I suggest you read Wikipedia's policies. Start with the suggestions for your first article, and look at links therein. Also checkout what Wikipedia is not, and the five pillars. You will find that b.s. articles are not only not appropriate, they're not wanted and are deleted speedily. Try adding useful info, or improving existing articles. Re: Vandalism warnings

Hi there. Great job on the reversion. Would you mind giving warnings as well, since it's hard to go to AIV when a user hasn't been warned at all. Cheers, Flyguy649talkcontribs 05:33, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That all? No threat of a block for not following policy playing the vandalism game the way you like it? Shame. Ah, well. You've got me. Quite why I need to issue a full set of warnings to a user who first impersonates me and then creates an army of abusive socks to continue vandalizing and directing abuse at me, I'm not sure. My sincerest apoligies – Gurch 05:41, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as trite or rude. I reverted a couple of people who had had earlier edits reverted by you, but there were no warnings on their pages. Before I left you the first note I checked out your contribs and there wasn't a single warning issued on the first page. I left you a note as a gentle reminder, not to threaten you. I'm just reverting vandalism here, too. Although I usually look at the contribs of the vandals I revert, it helps when issuing a warning when there's something else there. That's all I meant. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 05:51, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed there were no warnings on their pages. It baffles me why we need to tell someone who has just vandalised an article that they have done so. They already know. They also know that we don't like it, and that they will eventually be prevented from editing if they carry on too long. We don't need to tell them this. If they carry on long enough, then they will be blocked, and that will be the end of that. Leaving warnings is at best unnecessary, and at worst enourages a user to continue. Do I want to save myself a thousand edits a day, or tolerate the occasional message on my talk page telling me to warn users more often? Tough decision. For now, you should be satisfied, unless you've found something else to pick on. Am I not using the right "level" warnings, now? Am I reporting users to the administrator intervention page at the wrong time? These errors and more have been pointed out to me in the past, and to be honest I'm quite sick of it, for all the difference it makes – Gurch 05:56, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, now I know. For what it's worth sometimes they do stop, but you're right, they often don't. Anyway, I know where you stand on the warnings issue now and you shan't hear/read another word about it from me. Happy vandal whacking! Cheers, Flyguy649talkcontribs 06:05, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your previous comment suggests to me that you should perhaps reconsider your approach to the issue – specifically your use of the words "happy" and "whacking". Though this view does not seem to be shared by others – ny apologies, again, for not conforming to apparent expectations – Gurch 06:09, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

McDonald's

A red-link user rubbed out most of the gallery on the McDonald's article. I assume someone put a protection on it after that. You were the last non-redlink user to update the article. That's why I'm asking you: "Whuzup?" with this article. Baseball Bugs 19:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My only edits to the article were to revert some vandalism. I just reverted some more vandalism back to my earlier version. When I compared what I have to what was there at the beginning of May, I didn't see any major loss of images. The page was protected on March 27 [13]; there's no date for the expiry so I don't know if it's still active. Flyguy649talkcontribs 04:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A user named Brybry26 reverted that one red-link user's rub-out of the gallery, which is why you're seeing it now. It just dawned on me why that red-link was able to update it and I couldn't. My new user ID is just a few days old, so the article must be only semi-protected. I'm thinking it's a week or two before new user IDs can edit semi-protected articles. That explains it. Thanks fer listenin'. :) Baseball Bugs 05:03, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

user warning templates

When placing a user warning template on a user's talk page, please remember to sign your post, or at least place the date/time of the warning.

You recently gave a final warning to an editor for User talk:69.38.98.233, but didn't include a date/time. Since part of the criteria for blocking a user is that they vandalized after the final warning, it is essential that the time of that warning is recorded.

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia a better place. ;^) I added your talk page to my watchlist, so you can reply here. -- wrp103 (Bill Pringle) (Talk) 19:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AIV report for sock

Thank you for making a report about Jsw46 (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Suspected sock puppets should be reported at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets -- wrp103 (Bill Pringle) (Talk) 04:14, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This user was originally reported at WP:ANI#Threats by User:Jsw46. The sock was used to threaten someone, which I neglected to mention in my AIV report. It's not a case of suspected sockpuppetry. Flyguy649talkcontribs 04:21, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged that page back in February; appartently it was only deleted twice much later than that,[15] most recently as a result of an Articles for Deletion discussion (which I did not participate in). If you're not happy, you may request a deletion review. Flyguy649talkcontribs 17:50, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I could have probably been a little more diplomatic, but the comments were pretty terse (at best). Thanks. And I've had a bad day today, anyway.  :)Corvus cornix 06:02, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anything he adds is essentially crap; the current season of The Backyardigans has completely shown; any episodes he adds are untrue because there shouldn't be anymore: the second season's full run of 20 have shown. I've reported him, since I'm getting tired of cleaning up after him.HalfShadow 22:31, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't aware that the process had changed. So I had a look, and discovered that part of it has been. Are the instructions wrong on how to list pages for deletion? It says to use {{afd1}}, which is almost exactly the same as {{afd}}. There's no mention of the use of {{afd2}}. I must say, this is a more complicated process than before. However, thank you for bringing it to my attention. - Ta bu shi da yu 15:12, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No probs :-) should we change the AFD instructions? You'll have to forgive me: I'm from the old school of AFD, and wasn't aware of procedural changes. - Ta bu shi da yu 15:15, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do i create a page that i dont have scroll from side to side to read line to line ?? this is regarding Julian Brunger topic. Thank u —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Julz101 (talkcontribs) 08:38, June 12, 2007 (UTC)

  • That may be a preferences thing, or have something to do with your browser or o/s setup. Not my specialty. It may also look different when you're in the edit window, because long links (like those to some URLs) are kept on one line. You may wish to repost the question on your talk page with a {{helpme}} tag. That will prompt someone to come by who (hopefully) can answer your question. Sorry! Yeah, I sort thought that. I wanted to comment as well and thought it looked better with a nomination reason and then my !vote. I notice this was moved out of some teen-pregnancy article because it got too big, they should have just bit the bullet and cut the section out but I am guessing they were being too polite to do that.Garrie 06:00, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do i create a talk page -- Jackwalsh1 06:56, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • First of all, please ask new questions at the bottom of the talk page. It's easier for me to find. You can do that by clicking on the " " tab at the top of the talk page, or by manually going to the bottom of the page. As for the talk page, is it for yourself? It's already created. See User talk:Jackwalsh1. If you want to make a user page, click on User:Jackwalsh1. If you mean for an article, there is a tab at the top of the page that says "Discussion". If the word is blue, then it already exists. If it's red, then you will create it as soon as you click on the redlink, write something and save it. I replied at Talk:The Following, but to repeat, read Wikipedia's policy for notablility of bands. The band has to be notable to have an article about it. The Following does not seem to fit the requirements. If you disagree, please find references about the band. Flyguy649talkcontribs 03:04, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I don't agree with the policy for notability, but, rules are rules, so, whatever...—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fenoglio (talkcontribs) 03:16, June 18, 2007 (UTC)

You can discuss the policy at Wkipedia Talk:Notability (music). However, it's extremely unlikely that you can have the policy changed. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 03:20, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware of that. Shame about H, but at this point, I don't believe anything at that AfD will change that situation. Believe me, I'll miss him as much as anyone, his was the first RfA I ever put input on (and to support, of course). I hope, if nothing else, he'll come back low-profile and at least still be around. Drosophila sperm

re: Drosophila sperm size

Do you have a reference for D. bifurca having the longest sperm only relative to body length? The original citation (Pitnick et al. 1995, in Nature) gives it as the longest, period. It also noted that the previous record holder before they found D. bifurca was also a Drosophila, and I can't imagine there are many other organisms that make such huge sperm. KarlM 05:35, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My reply. -- Flyguy649talkcontribs 05:44, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can tell, the original reference for the length is Pitnick, S., G.S. Spicer, and T.A. Markow. 1994. How long is a giant sperm? Nature 375:109. That's probably the most appropriate thing to cite. Also, if they have the absolute largest sperm, it's not really worth mentioning that they're longest relatively as well. KarlM 06:07, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it looks better now. I tweaked it a little to get the lengths more accurate. KarlM 06:37, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

imperial/us units in Toronto

re: discussion at us units in user talk:Sammalin#Toronto

Hi. Thank you for your comment on imperial/US units in Toronto. I will endeavour follow the NUM guidelines, though I will remind you that it states clearly "If editors cannot agree about the sequence of units, put the source value first and the converted value second." Only in an arbitrary choice situation are SI units automatically first "If for some reason the choice of units is arbitrary, choose SI units as the main unit, with other units in parentheses" (...perhaps I need to review some of my earlier changes!). On the matter of abbreviations, I personally think that the first time a unit is used, whether it is inside or outside a bracket, it should be spelled in full, thereafter it should be abbreviated. I have put a comment in the MOS discussion to this effect in the hope that the idea might be adopted - best - Sam 15:18, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
