Lawrence
HI FeanorStar7, I am not sure how to email you so I use this page. The Roy Gordon Lawrence article, if you check the news articles, they say that in 2004 Lawrecne was 46, so that makes his year of birth 1958 if I did the math right. So I am not used to wikipedia and do not know where it should be added. Perhaps you can do that. keep up the good work! Thanks. WM.

Wilhelm Meyer (aus Speyer) was my great-grandfather. Do you have any further info on him or was it all from the reference book? Thank You, [email protected]

Note on Biographies
Thanks for your professional input on biographies. Please note that biographical and government entries by Judicial Watch are part of a project to publish a centralized, free collection of in-depth information about
people who have previously appeared in older and out-of-print editions of the "Who's Who" series by Marquis Publications
influential or interesting people or organizations mentioned in very different newspapers and magazines that cannot be easily read or accessed unless linked together by an expensive subscription search engine service like Lexis/Nexis or Hoovers
Thanks to Wikipedia, this information can now be found quickly and for free!--JudicialWatch (talk) 22:19, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Richard of Fournival
I note the "linking" of Jordanus de Nemore to "R de F". I was going to leave that until a page on R de F could be written (it's on my to-do list), unless you want to do it!!. Unfortunately again there is likely to be little more than a stub, since his Biblionomia is about all that survives -- other than the fact that we have been able to identify some of his books which have lasted through to the 21st century. Anyway, thanks for the work on J de N.Ron B. Thomson (talk) 15:02, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. I am often consulting the LC catalogue! Remember me to Frank Mantello. Actually I have on my shelf -- if I ever get to it -- a fair amount on Richard, including a rare facsimile of the Biblionomia published in South Africa, of all places. I'll get to it this summer.Ron B. Thomson (talk) 18:34, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your question on my talk page about dates in the two biographies you mentioned. But I'm afraid I can't help at all -- I myself am equally confused. Dashes
I'm unclear why you are changing correct endashes to HTML endashes, with your edit summaries of "layout", sample here. This endash – and this endash – result in the same endash (please view in edit mode); it's not necessary to change a correct endash to an HTML endash. See WP:DASH and Dash for more detail. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 08:09, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure you understood. At Ima Hogg, for example, you changed an endash to an endash; no change. Just a real endash was changed to an HTML endash. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 08:22, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Legas
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Legas, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello, I want to merge a section of this article into another bigger that is already made called The ARF Has Nothing To Do Anymore (book). If you can locate a reference for his birth date that would be good, but what we have is not positive. I retrieved the date from another wiki article where there was no reference provided. There is nothing from a reputable source that I can find. This, as it turns out, is why I've got him in the category. E_dog95' Hi ' 11:53, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

adding birth cats
Hi - looks like you've been really busy! Thanks! If you're using this list it would be great if you removed batches you've gone through adding cats to, so that it's clear what's been done. Dsp13 (talk) 20:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I'd envisaging removing them all - i.e. those with added birth cats (e.g. 1950 births) and those with year of birth missing (living people) cats, and red links (which are just pages deleted for some reason since March) - so that the only pages left are those which are incompletely categorized.Dsp13 (talk) 10:26, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
If you do want to leave pages you've cateorized as year of birth missing, maybe when you get to the end of a batch you could mark the ones left as having been categorised in this way - e.g. Batch XX 'only year of birth missing (living people) remaining' or whatever - just so people who come to the page will know the status of the different batches there. What do you think? (I've asked the same question to User:EmanWilm, whose also been having a go at these pages & thinks similarly to you on this one) Dsp13 (talk) 23:35, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Location change (and reservations made) for DC meetup
I stopped by TGI Friday's this evening and was less than impressed. They apparently don't take reservations, except perhaps if you call 24 hours ahead of time. The staff was not so helpful, and the menu has hardly anything vegetarian which is an issue for some people.
So, I checked out the Bertucci's pizza/Italian place across the street (21st & I St NW). Their staff couldn't have been more helpful, and think it will be fairly quiet so we will be able to hear each other. So, reservations are made for Bertucci's at 5pm on Saturday. --Aude (talk) 02:41, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

blp=no
Hi. Great work in Wikipedia:Uncategorized biographies of living people/BLPPotential. I would like to make only one comment. Instead of tagging with blp0no, just remove the blp parameter. blp has to be yes or not exist. Yobot and Listasbot are removing it. Thanks! Magioladitis (talk) 09:08, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

from yes to no but doesnät remove blp=no. I will report that. Other problems are because the yob-yod categories were added inn the article after it was tagged. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:21, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Volunteer opportunity in Bethesda, Thursday, July 16
The Wikimedia Foundation will be conducting an all-day Academy at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, on Thursday, July 16. The team that will be teaching at the Academy, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, is looking for four more volunteers to be teaching assistants, providing one-to-one assistance in workshops whenever a workshop participant has a problem following the instructional directions. (We currently have two editors signed up as teaching assistants, and are looking for a total of six.)
The NIH editing workshops are only for two hours, but volunteers are asked to meet the Wikimedia Foundation team at the hotel in Bethesda at about 7:15 a.m. (time to be finalized shortly) and to stay for the entire day, which ends at 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. (The full schedule can be found here.)
The team is not necessarily looking for expert editors (though they are welcome), just people who can help novices who might get stuck when trying to do some basic things. If you've been an editor for at least 3 months, and have done at least 500 edits, you probably qualify.
If you're interested, please send John Broughton an email. If you might be interested, but would like further information, please post a note on his user talk page, so that he can respond there, and others can see what was asked.

David Ferriero
Will you consider watchlisting David Ferriero and New York Public Library (NYPL)? I'm not sure what to make of unanticipated criticism of what I wrote about a living person in 2008. As you may know, Ferriero has been nominated to become the 10th Archivist of the United States. I'm puzzled by the complaint that the article appeared to have been drafted with an overly favorable bias; and I don't know how best to respond to the implied criticism of the NYPL article as well.
I recognize that Wikipedia's article about NYPL does fail to address the extraordinary changes in corporate culture which have been implemented during Ferriero's tenure; and by implication, I see how this points to a significant flaw in the Ferriero article.
I understand the problem, but I don't know what to do about it. I admit frankly that this is a little bit beyond my ability. --Tenmei (talk) 14:41, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Linking placenames
Hi, noticed this edit to Joe Chadbourne. Please could you point me to where in the MoS it says placenames shouldn't be linked? seems crazy to me. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 17:47, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Don't have a problem with delinking England, or other major places, but I don't see how the MoS requires the removal of links to a subject's birthplace where it isn't a well-known place. When reading a biographical article, I often click on the birthplace, not necessarily to read the whole article, but just to find out where the place is. Removing such links strikes me as not particularly helpful. Matter of taste, I suppose. thanks for your prompt reply, cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:12, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Greetings, I have just uploaded to Wiki-Commons a photo-image (Byrd_Antarctic_Expedition-II_3c.jpg) of a US 3c postage stamp commemorating Admiral Byrd's Expeditions to the Antarctic. It is an engraved stamp, issued in 1934, the year of Byrd's last expedition to the Antarctic and has remarkable detail, depicting a map and Byrd's various trips about the globe.
Byrd's Expedition's were just as popular then as the first Space-Shuttle launches were today, and the stamp is a historical earmark or documentation, of this event.
If you feel it is appropriate to include this image on the 'Richard Evelyn Byrd' page please feel free to do so if no one else has yet. The article Dave Askren has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Search for sources turns up nothing independent of the subject, no gnews hits etc. Only source is self-published and the article appears unsourceable.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}

You are now a Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:55, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Greetings! Glad to see you're still editing; some of us are persistent, no?
I just noticed this inline comment you left. Spem in alium is for "only" 40 voices; Rossetto's motet is for 50. That's why I said "only a handful of larger compositions are known..." -- I can only think of two: the one by Striggio (written about in detail in an issue of JAMS about three years ago) and the Baroque-era piece by Biber. I think I ran across another one somewhere along the line, but can't at the moment recall the composer. All the best, Antandrus (talk) 01:08, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update. Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join! Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive. Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

Barnstars If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks. Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed. Project tagging for American football players
FeanorStar7, hello. I've noticed you've been doing some project tagging for American football biography articles. Wikipedia:WikiProject American football is intended primarily to cover core concepts of the sport like touchdown. If a person played or coached college football they should be tagged with {{WikiProject College football}}. If they played or coached in the NFL, they should be tagged with {{WikiProject National Football League}}. Only if a person did not play or coach in either college football or the NFL or are most notable for their participation in some other league or level should they be tagged with {{WikiProject American football}}. Thanks. Jweiss11 (talk) 02:36, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

New Years Message for WikiProject United States
With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions or you can always post something on the projects talk page. GOCE drive news
Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.
So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.
We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal. Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success! Your drive coordinators –S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk), The UtahraptorTalk to me, and Tea with toast (Talk) |

Hi. Hope you're well. I was looking at our article on House Reading Clerks and I was trying to find a definitive list of past Clerks. I searched around for a bit, but couldn't find anything readily available. I assume that the Library of Congress has a compiled list buried within it somewhere. Do you know who/where I could ask about such a thing? I'm more than happy to head down there as necessary, but I'm not really sure where to go if I do. After the retirements of our first two executive coordinators, Mono and Guoguo12, WikiProject Wikify is undergoing a period of transition. We are currently holding a discussion to create a plan for the future, find volunteers to help fill our many administrative positions, collect any feedback about what has happened in the last six months, propose some new guidelines, and see if there are any creative ideas to increase participation. We appreciate your input! |

Louis Spohr article
LOUIS SPOHR article - Life section There is only one footnote among many paragraphs. Looking thru the history, it seems that many Anons have added here and there but Editors MDCollins, Kanx1976, HIS33407district61, FeanorStar7, and Beannaithe are at least (hopefully) still around to add footnotes to this section where they contributed? I don't have access to the biographical books - I've been to the library today and have the latest edition of the New Grove entry on Spohr, and the article in the International Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians 11th edition - but can't correlate every line from these, nor would I want to edit what is most probably verifiable information from the references noted if they could simply be properly attributed. Any hope on you guys coming back and "finishing the job"? I'll note this on the user pages of the above. GOCE drive invitation
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors
The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting. This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". |

prioity in WikiProject Biography
FYI... the "priority" tag in WikiProject Biography hasn't been used in a couple of years, so you don't need to add it. It has been replaced by the different work group priority tags. Bgwhite (talk) 07:08, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- No problem. You are not the only person who still added it. Old habits die hard. You might want to consider adding politician-work-group and the other work groups to your templates. I usually add politician-priority=low and sports-priority=low to the vast majority too.
- I noticed you have "Clearing the backlog of articles without listas and living parameters" on your user page. I cleared out living in Aprilish. Listas is almost finished. I do the "weird" ones (Arabic, Asian, Icelandic, etc) manually and then I have a bot do the easy ones. I should have it finished by next week. Happy Gnoming!!!! WikiProject Biography tags
I see you love to update the bio banner. Thank you. It is a full-time job. Could you please also add the work-group parameter to the banner. I usually add the work group priority tag to politicians and sports people as I can usually figure them out easily. By adding the work-group parameter, that is one less thing somebody else has to come by and add. Bgwhite (talk) 18:56, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Golding Bird authority control
I am not quite sure what the authority control template you added is meant to do for the article, but the link to Worldcat is returning a 404 error. I have no idea how to fix the template to point to the correct link other than to delete it altogether. SpinningSpark 11:56, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
- I have to say I am entirely pissed at having to fight through template code and learn yet another template format in order to correct a simple error I could have fixed in 10 seconds if it had been in plain markup. However, I have actually got to the bottom of this - it is a problem with leading zeroes. LCC does not mind them, but WorldCat needs them removed. I very nearly removed this out of hand as you succeeded in putting a dead link into an article that had this very day been promoted to FA after months of effort. If a template isn't working properly and you don't know how to fix it then you really shouldn't be using it. You probably now need to go and remove the leading zeroes from a whole bunch of other edits you have made - or else fix the template so it does not pass them to Worldcat. SpinningSpark 13:56, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
WikiProject Biography banner
I've asked before. Please also assess and add the appropriate work-group parameter to the Biography banner. If you don't, the talk pages still are in tracking categories that I have to finish off later. So, you are wasting time if you don't assess and add work-group.
- Don't worry on the assessment. It is very subjective. Hand out stubs and starts. If you feel it is above a start, handout a C and don't worry about Bs. You have to spend time on if it is a B or not. I rarely hand out Bs and only if I know the primary editor... Some editors do great work all the time.
- Have you thought about working with AWB. It helps you work faster. I have two AWB windows open, one for the talk page and the other for the main article. Bgwhite (talk) 19:48, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Information sought
Hello! I wonder if I may bother you for a little information on a point that puzzles me? You have recently added a line to the article on Thomas Beecham containing links to an American Congress site and to OCCL. The former lists some tangential information (Grove entry, already cited earlier in the article) and the latter links to a blank page. I was wondering what the purpose of this is. It isn't of grave import, as the line is discreetly tucked away and won't distract the reader, but I should nonetheless be interested to understand what it is meant to do. Grateful if you could spare a moment to elucidate. Regards. – Tim riley (talk) 10:56, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. That's most interesting. Ought we editors of biographies to be adding such things ourselves, or is it better left to the experts? It appears to be a lot of work for you looking each catalogue code number up for each article. En passant, while you are taking up the matter of adjusting the relevant template, I wonder if the link from it ought to point to Wikipedia:Authority control rather than Authority control? I read the latter before bothering you with my query, but found myself none the wiser. A link to the former might make things clearer for any other lay person who clicked on it. Regards. – Tim riley (talk) 11:19, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

...I've been meaning to ask for a while. What's "authority control" in a wiki context? I've seen it on a few articles, and was wondering what it meant! Hchc2009 (talk) 09:15, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter. Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far. Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers. GOCE March drive wrap-up
Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter. Participation Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months. Progress report During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators. Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.
