Recent changes
- The Starter kit is now available for wiki communities. This page lists technical resources, tools, and recommendations. These are essential to operate a wiki project. This is mostly useful for smaller wikis where the community has limited experience with this. [1]
- The first features of the Desktop Improvements project are available for logged-in users on all wikis. In order to use them, uncheck Use Legacy Vector in your local or global preferences in section Skin preferences. More improvements are planned. Feedback is welcome.
- On multiple wikis, a UTCLiveClock gadget is available. For wikis that import the gadget directly from mediawiki.org, end users can now choose a different timezone to show instead of UTC.
Problems
- The deployment train for MediaWiki has been blocked this week. [2][3]
- Translation Notification Bot was sending the same message multiple times to every translator. This has been fixed. [4]
- Some users were receiving the same notification multiple times. This has been fixed. [5]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from July 28. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from July 29. It will be on all wikis from JUly 30 (calendar).

I have made changes to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Josephat_Okechukwu_Ogbuagu
Good day sir, I have made possible changes to the above subject as you have pointed out to me. Please sir, kindly help and confirm. I appreciate.Dekozy (talk) 22:49, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry I can't do this at this time because I still don't see the subject of your article notable. Em-mustapha talk 19:21, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
Can you please point which part of the draft was plagiarised?
Dear Mustapha, thanks for your swift review and feedback for the article "Muhammad Khurram Khan". Based on the feedback of the previous reviewer, I re-drafted the section honors and awards and he pointed that it was copied and pasted from the source website.
Can you please point out which part of the current draft doesn't comply with the Wikipedia policy? As there is no report attached with the feedback.
NatWJames (talk) 00:10, 1 August 2020 (UTC)best regards.
- Welcome NatWJames! I didn't say you plagiarize anything instead your draft sources need to be improved because most of them are primary sources and are directly related with the subject, you need to provide reliable Secondary sources for Notability and Verifiability, and remove the external links in the body of your draft per ELNOT. Em-mustapha talk 06:00, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
AfC and promotional content
Please be more cautious regarding what you accept via AfC. An article you accepted, Bill Liu, had to be deleted as spam. When you accepted it, it contained such phrasing as Liu founded Royole with the mission to transform the way people experience and interact with the world, unveiling the world's thinnest flexible display in 2014.
(we don't regurgitate "mission" type crap), and ...amongst other prestigious awards.
(the word "prestigious" is a puff term and a very good indicator of promotion). Please ensure next time to deny any AfC submissions which in any way "talk up" or promote their subjects. Seraphimblade Talk to me 22:49, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Get it! Thank you for the caution, Regards. Em-mustapha talk 06:18, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Problems
- All queries to the Wikidata Query Service failed between 17:50 and 17:59 UTC on Thursday 23 July. Some queries failed during a longer period. [6]
- Interlanguage links were ordered incorrectly for the past few weeks. This problem was also mentioned in Tech News two weeks ago. The problem is now fixed. [7]
- There is a problem with the global preferences for the "Use Legacy Vector" option. Developers are working on fixing it. [8]
- A bug in the Wikibase extension had disabled the "move" and "create" types of protection in the main (Gallery) namespace on Wikimedia Commons. New protections could not be added, and existing protections were not enforced, allowing some page moves and page creations that should not have been possible. This has now been fixed. [9]
Changes later this week
- The video player will change to be simpler and more modern. This week, the current beta feature will become the video player for everyone on most non-Wikipedia wikis. The old player will be removed. [10]
- Users'
global.js
andglobal.css
pages will now also be loaded on the mobile site. You can read documentation for how to avoid applying styles to the mobile skin. [11] - In the MonoBook skin, the
searchGoButton
identifier is nowsearchButton
. This may affect CSS and JS gadgets. Migration instructions can be found in T255953. This was previously mentioned in issue 27. - Bot operators can use Pywikibot to regularly archive discussions. The behavior when the bot uses
counter
to prevent large archives was changed. [12] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from August 4. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from August 5. It will be on all wikis from August 6 (calendar).

Recent changes
- FileImporter and FileExporter became standard features on all Wikis during the first week of August. They help you transfer files from local wikis to Wikimedia Commons with the original file information and history intact. [13]
Problems
- The mobile skin displays a message at the bottom of the page about who edited last. This message showed raw wikitext. This has now been fixed. Some messages in Structured Discussions and content translation may still appear as raw wikitext. Developers are working on it. [14]
Changes later this week

- OK Sadeeqzaria, Please follow this instruction IT carefully. Em-mustapha talk 12:08, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
Question and appreciation
Thank you very much sir for your guide on how to tage copy right. Please shall I replace the name of mustapha withat of the picture name or I will copy it exactly and write on Author source? Sadeeqzaria (talk) 18:33, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
Appreciation
I am very sorry sir, I am novice, it is the first time of my upload. I really appreciate. Sadeeqzaria (talk) 18:34, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- OK! @Sadeeqzaria:, I hope you own the copy right of the file you're trying upload. Go here, Upload. Em-mustapha talk 09:22, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
General Question
Hi
I am creating Wikipedia articles since 2018 but never my any article took 3 days or more but this is pending since 9 August, now i want to know can i proposed delete the draft and publish the article direct? this article is passing WP:GNG and WP:NPOV and WP:BIO thus these two pages should be review and move to main space.
Draft:Nick_Wrenn and Draft:Misbah Mumtaz Memon KutianaWala (talk) 11:27, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- OK! @Memon KutianaWala:, you don't need to tag a draft for Deletion. You can create your draft page directly to the mainspace by moving it to the name of the article you want to create. Em-mustapha talk 09:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
Question
Well done sir, I followed the instructions you sent to me for tagging a copy right but still I was warned that it was not taged. Please can you help me to guide me on how to do it well? Sadeeqzaria (talk) 20:16, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes
- If you revert an edit using the undo link your edit is marked with an
undo
tag. This will now only happen if you don't change anything in the edit window before publishing the undo. This is to keep users from marking edits as undos when they actually do something else. [17] - The new OOUI version will not work with Internet Explorer 8. This means the wikis will look strange and not work well in Internet Explorer 8. This was reported in Tech/News/2020/17. This is because keeping the wikis working with very old browsers creates other problems. [18]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 August. It will be on all wikis from 20 August (calendar).

Ways to improve Omotade Alalade
Hello, M-Mustapha,
Thank you for creating Omotade Alalade.
I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:
The subject of the article does not seem to pass WP:GNG, other than they are in the list of BBC 100 Women 2016. Please improve the article with references discussing about her in reliable sources, or it might be nominated for deletion. Best,
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Nnadigoodluck}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Disambiguation link notification for September 6
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Wamdeo, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Adamawa. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Changes later this week
- Normally pages can be moved to a title that has no existing page yet or to a page that has only one revision, which is a redirect to the page to be moved. A new user right allows editors to move pages over one-revision pages that redirect to anywhere. [23]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 8 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 9 September. It will be on all wikis from 10 September (calendar).
- All MediaWiki API modules will now use
watchlist
instead ofwatch
. This was inconsistent before. [24]
Future changes
- The Wikipedia Android app team might work on patrolling tools in the future. You can let them know what tools would be useful for you or for less experienced patrollers. See the page on mediawiki.org.
- OTRS will be updated to a new version. This will probably take around two days. OTRS agents will not have access to the system during these days. Emails that come in during the update will be delivered when the update is done. The plan is to start around 08:00 UTC on 14 September. This could change. [25]
- The Wikipedia Android app will send push notifications if users want them. This could help you see for example when someone wrote on your talk page or your edit was reverted. This will need Google Play Services to work. It will also be possible to get the app without Google Play Services but push notifications will not work. Google Play Services is also used to make the app work for Android 4.4 users. [26][27]
- Wikimedia code review could move to GitLab. It would be hosted on Wikimedia servers. You can take part in the consultation.
- Dropdown menus in the Vector skin use a
.menu
class. This will not work in the future. Scripts can usenav ul
instead..vectorTabs
and.vectorMenu
will also not work. Some scripts need to be updated. You can read more in Phabricator.

Your draft article, Draft:Salena Rocky Malone
Hello, M-Mustapha. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Salena Rocky Malone".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply and remove the {{db-afc}}
, {{db-draft}}
, or {{db-g13}}
code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Some users are not affected by all limits because of their user rights. They could soon see the limit even if it does not affect them. [32]

Recent changes
- Admins can now see links to diffs of deleted revisions on Special:AbuseLog. This uses the interface of Special:Undelete. [33]
- Editors are automatically added to some user groups. For example editors are added to autoconfirmed users when they have edited enough times and long enough. Abuse filters can hinder users from automatically getting user rights for a period of time. They can also remove rights user have. Wikis can now ask to change how long this period of time is for their wiki in Phabricator. It is currently five days. [34]
Problems
- Last year some abuse filters stopped working because of a new change. If they tried to use variables that were unavailable for that action they would fail. This has now been fixed. [35]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 September. It will be on all wikis from 1 October (calendar).
Future changes
- You can't see the language links to other language versions from the talk page or history page. They are also not shown when you edit an article. This could change. It is not decided if for example the history page should link to another history page or to the article. You can take part in the discussion in Phabricator.
- The link colours could change. This is to make the difference between links and other text more clear. You can read more in Phabricator.
- In your preferences you can choose to get different notifications on the web or by email. You will see
Apps
as one of the alternatives later this week. This is because the Android and iOS Wikipedia apps will use push notifications for those who want them. You can see the preferences on the test wiki. The goal is to have push notifications on Android in October and on iOS in early 2021. [36] - You can soon put pages on your watchlist for a limited time. This could be useful if you want to watch something for a shorter time but don't want it on your watchlist forever. It now works on mediawiki.org and will come to more wikis later. You can read more and see when it will come to other wikis.
- You can see what Wikimedians think are the best new technical tools this year. You can also nominate them.

Hello
I noted you are a member of " countering systematic bias" on Wikipedia. I created an article Military of ancient Nubia to showcase the military prowess of the African civilization. However, the article is still not notable because when you even search it through a search engine, it doesn't appear. Please check it out to ensure it isn't deleted and if you can even make it better , with more information and widespread, then that will be really helpful.(Kwesi Yema (talk) 19:42, 28 September 2020 (UTC))

- Everyone was logged out. This was because a user reported being logged in to someone else's account. The problem should be fixed now. [39]
- Many pages have JavaScript errors. You can read more and now see a list of user scripts with errors.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 October. It will be on all wikis from 8 October (calendar).
- Letters immediately after a link are shown as part of the link. For example the entire word in
[[Child]]ren
is linked. On Arabic wikis this works at both the start and end of a word. Previously on Arabic wikis numbers and other non-letter Unicode characters were shown as part of the link at the start of a word but not at the end. Now only Latin and Arabic letters will extend links on Arabic wikis. [40]
Future changes
- You will be able to read but not to edit the wikis for up to an hour on 27 October around 14:00 (UTC). It will probably be shorter than an hour. [41]

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Yoruba warriors
A tag has been placed on Category:Yoruba warriors requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Speedy deletion tagging
Hello, M-Mustapha,
Just a reminder that every time you tag a page for any type of deletion, you need to post a notice to the page creator on their talk page. The easiest way to do this is to use Twinkle, which not only provides you with appropriate CSD criteria but will post the notice automatically once you set up your Preferences. This is the easiest and most complete way to tag pages for deletion so I encourage you to make use of it and set up your Twinkle Preferences so that all CSD categories are selected to send notices to page creators. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 19:43, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! For the reminder Liz Noted. Em-mustapha 20:17, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
May I ask why you rolled back the changes to Safe-cracking
All I did was update the links to the current device, the links for ref 8 & 9 are no longer valid. My apologies if wikipedia would prefer to use outdated references that no longer are accessible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by G13005 (talk • contribs) 05:45, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- OK! G13005, The machine tagged your edit as reference remove that's why I immediately rollback it. Had it you provided an edit summary I wouldn't roll it back until I checked weather it's constructive or otherwise. Thanks for asking, I will restore it back. Em-mustapha 08:37, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Why did you reverted my changes?
Hi sir, someone's is adding mythological claims on Jadeja page, while I added their real descent with appropriate references then why did you reverted my edit and replace it with mythological claims based on one ref!? Did you revert it just because me being a new IP editor without even looking at what has been changed on the page? 43.251.222.185 (talk) 13:32, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
- I checked it. Hey M-Mustapha, this person has the point. There was no need to replace family descent with myths though. And myth is also just based on a claim with just a single ref. And the person, to whose version you've reverted to, seems to be messing up other pages too and not just the Jadeja page. HinduKshatrana (talk) 13:52, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi! User:43.251.222.185 and HinduKshatrana, I reverted the edits because they weren't constructive, you remove too many contents including their references and you even went on to distorted the page format by removing the external links section etcetera. You should review your edits before publishing next time and reference your claim with reliable sources, finally try to write a brief summary of your changes to the page. By the way it is better you register an account if you think people look down on IP users. Hope you get my rational worthy. Thanks Em-mustapha 14:06, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I don't know what's up with the IP editor wanting an account or not but this guy had provided 3 references with the information. The Sumit guy who removed it with a single ref for mythological claims was the one was not being constructive. I've checked those 3 references and they seem fine. You should re-check the editorial history on Jadeja page.HinduKshatrana (talk) 15:28, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

- In the AbuseFilter extension, the
rmspecials()
function will be updated soon so that it does not remove the "space" character. Wikis are advised to wrap all the uses ofrmspecials()
withrmwhitespace()
wherever necessary to keep filters' behavior unchanged. You can use the search function on Special:AbuseFilter to locate its usage. [49] - Some gadgets and user-scripts use the HTML div with the ID
#jump-to-nav
. This div will be removed soon. Maintainers should replace these uses with either#siteSub
or#mw-content-text
. A list of affected scripts is at the top of phab:T265373.

- You can no longer read Wikimedia wikis if your browser uses very old TLS. This is because it is a security problem for everyone. It could lead to downgrade attacks. Since October 29, 2020, users who use old TLS versions will not be able to connect to Wikimedia projects. A list of browser recommendations is available. All modern operating systems and browsers are always able to reach Wikimedia projects. [55]
- There is a new automatic tracking category available: Pages with non-numeric formatnum arguments. It collects pages which use the
{{formatnum}}
parser function with invalid (non-numeric) input, e.g.{{formatnum:TECHNEWS}}
. Note that{{formatnum:123,456}}
is also invalid input: as described in the documentation, the argument should be unformatted so that it can be reliably and correctly localised. The tracking category will help identify problematic usage and double-formatting. The new tracking category's name can be translated at translatewiki. [56]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from November 3. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from November 4. It will be on all wikis from November 5 (calendar).
- Administrators and stewards will be able to use a special page (Special:CreateLocalAccount) to force local account creation for a global account. This is useful when account creation is blocked for that user (by a block or a filter). [57]
- The Reply tool will be offered as an opt-in Beta Feature on most Wikipedias on November 4. This change excludes the English, Russian, and German-language Wikipedias, plus a few smaller Wikipedias with special circumstances. You can read the help page and the troubleshooting guide for more information. [58]
Future changes
- A discussion has been restarted about using a Unicode minus sign (− U 2212) in the output of
{{formatnum}}
when it is given a negative argument. [59] - In the future IP addresses of unregistered users will not be shown for everyone. They will get an alias instead. There will be a new user right or an opt-in function for more vandal fighters to see the IPs of unregistered users. There would be some criteria for who gets the user right or opt-in. There will also be other new tools to help handle vandalism. This is early in the process and the developers are still collecting information from the communities before they suggest solutions.

Nigerian Medical Students' Association
Could you comment on your decision to accept Nigerian Medical Students' Association out of AfC? RoadRunners or Roadrunners
Does MOSCAPs apply here? The team referred to themselves as the RoadRunners, with a capital R for Runners and no space between the words, as can be seen at their (archived) website. https://web.archive.org/web/20070520231538/http://www.phxroadrunners.com/# Should we not stick to the name and style the team themselves used? 194.28.124.55 (talk) 01:01, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- I hope you made this request! Diffs here! with the saying
..other teams that have used this name have their respective league in the page title, and there is nothing to say this is the most important Phoenix RoadRunners version - see Phoenix Roadrunners (disambiguation)
I moved the page uncontroversially but by dropping the 'R' to lower 'r' and without space in between, seeing that the same other teams use it that way, and also found refs like these [79], [80], [81], [82], [83], [84], [85] etc. –Em-em talk 03:22, 7 January 2021 (UTC)- Sorry, my message on the page move request may have been a little confusing. The move to the {team name} (ECHL) was correct, as other team articles for other incarnations all had their respective leagues in brackets after their names, but only the ECHL version styled themselves as RoadRunners, the others all using the (correct!) Roadrunners.
- So with that in mind, should the page be moved to Phoenix RoadRunners (ECHL), or is that against the MOS?

Recent changes
- You can choose to be reminded when you have not added an edit summary. This can be done in your preferences. This could conflict with the CAPTCHA. This has now been fixed. [86]
- You can link to specific log entries. You can get these links for example by clicking the timestamps in the log. Until now, such links to private log entries showed no entry even if you had permission to view private log entries. The links now show the entry. [87]
- Admins can use the abuse filter tool to automatically prevent bad edits. Three changes happened last week:
- The filter editing interface now shows syntax errors while you type. This is similar to JavaScript pages. It also shows a warning for regular expressions that match the empty string. New warnings will be added later. [88]
- Oversighters can now hide multiple filter log entries at once using checkboxes on Special:AbuseLog. This is how the usual revision deletion works. [89]
- When a filter matches too many actions after it has been changed it is "throttled". The most powerful actions are disabled. This is to avoid many editors getting blocked when an administrator made a mistake. The administrator will now get a notification about this "throttle".
- There is a new tool to build new skins. You can also see existing skins. You can give feedback. [90]
- Bots using the API no longer watch pages automatically based on account preferences. Setting the
watchlist
towatch
will still work. This is to reduce the size of the watchlist data in the database. [91] - Scribunto's file metadata now includes length. [92]
- CSS and JavaScript code pages now have link anchors to line numbers. You can use wikilinks like w:en:MediaWiki:Common.js#L-50. [93]
- There was a new version of MediaWiki last week. You can read a detailed log of all 763 changes. Most of them are very small and will not affect you.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 January. It will be on all wikis from 14 January (calendar).

- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 19 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 20 January. It will be on all wikis from 21 January (calendar).
Future changes
- The Growth team plans to add features to get more visitors to edit to more Wikipedias. You can help translating the interface.
- You will be able to read but not to edit Wikimedia Commons for a short time on 26 January at 07:00 (UTC). [94]
- MassMessage posts could be automatically timestamped in the future. This is because MassMessage senders can now send pages using MassMessage. Pages are more difficult to sign. If there are times when a MassMessage post should not be timestamped you can let the developers know.

Kaduna State
Hello. Your recent edit to Kaduna State appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 13:53, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
Federal Government Girls College (Zaria) moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Federal Government Girls College (Zaria) does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Please see the school article guidelines which describes how the content of school articles should be organized, with the aim of providing general guidance to editors. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Problems
- IPv6 addresses were written in lowercase letters in diffs. This caused dead links since Special:Contributions only accepted uppercase letters for the IPs. This has been fixed. [98]
Changes later this week
- You can soon use Wikidata to link to pages on the multilingual Wikisource. [99]
- Often editors use a "non-breaking space" to make a gap between two items when reading but still show them together. This can be used to avoid a line break. You will now be able to add new ones via the special character tool in the 2010, 2017, and visual editors. The character will be shown in the visual editor as a space with a grey background. [100][101]
- Wikis use abuse filters to stop bad edits being made. Filter maintainers can now use syntax like
1.2.3.4 - 1.2.3.55
as well as the1.2.3.4/27
syntax for IP ranges. [102] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 2 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 3 February. It will be on all wikis from 4 February (calendar).
Future changes
- Minerva is the skin Wikimedia wikis use for mobile traffic. When a page is protected and you can't edit it you can normally read the source wikicode. This doesn't work on Minerva on mobile devices. This is being fixed. Some text might overlap. This is because your community needs to update MediaWiki:Protectedpagetext to work on mobile. You can read more. [103][104]
- Cloud VPS and Toolforge will change the IP address they use to contact the wikis. The new IP address will be
185.15.56.1
. This will happen on February 8. You can read more.

Recent changes
- The Wikipedia app for Android now has watchlists and talk pages in the app. [105]
Changes later this week
- You can see edits to chosen pages on Special:Watchlist. You can add pages to your watchlist on every wiki you like. The GlobalWatchlist extension will come to Meta on 11 February. There you can see entries on watched pages on different wikis on the same page. The new watchlist will be found on Special:GlobalWatchlist on Meta. You can choose which wikis to watch and other preferences on Special:GlobalWatchlistSettings on Meta. You can watch up to five wikis. [106]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 February. It will be on all wikis from 11 February (calendar).
Future changes
- When admins protect pages the form will use the OOUI look. Special:Import will also get the new look. This will make them easier to use on mobile phones. [107][108]
- Some services will not work for a short period of time from 07:00 UTC on 17 February. There might be problems with new short links, new translations, new notifications, adding new items to your reading lists or recording email bounces. This is because of database maintenance. [109]
- Last week Tech News reported that the IP address Cloud VPS and Toolforge use to contact the wikis will change on 8 February. This is delayed. It will happen later instead. [110]

Wholesale reversion of Net Promoter Comment and re-reversion by the original author
Hi, Can you please articulate the reasons why you did a wholesale reversion of edits on Net Promoter? I thought some of the edits you reverted added value. Others, of course, were poorly sourced or just the opinion of the editor (Mtfitzgerald8). It feels a bit heavy handed to revert them all, however.
Elvira100 (talk) 17:53, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yes! Elvira100, there's no any special reason behind the revert other than just a normal revert of an unconstructive/unsourced addition or unreliable claim, the same as you said, it could just be the editor's opinion and the sources that he provided were other wikipedia pages, which we don't used them as sources here. Em-em talk 00:09, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
As far as I know I provided sources for everything I wrote. If you could be clearer on where you think the sources are missing, that would be helpful. For example, you will see from the note in the 'Origins' heading that I interviewed the original researchers, Fred Reichheld and Laura Brooks for that content, so it is well sourced. I also checked it with them before making the changes. Many of the other changes are sourced from the Net Promoter System podcast and other places, all cited. My observations on the defects in the criticism sections come from reading the articles in question. I am also a reference source for NPS information as I have written one of the reference books on the subject, have been invited more than anyone else onto the Bain Net Promoter System podcast, and work part-time for Richard Owen, former CEO of Satmetrix, co-inventors of NPS. Note that I consider it disrespectful and unethical to delete what I wrote without contacting me in any way.

Vandalism?
Can you explain why you think my edit on Hairnets was considered vandalism? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.234.42.153 (talk) 22:09, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Salomon Group
Hi
Why revert my edit to Salomon Group?
Now it is mostly a list of their ski models without any sources.
Should we list all the products of every company in their wikipedia article? Also Salomon makes mostly other stuff nowadays. Why the downhill skis in their pages. Why not list of their cross country skis?
DukeDuck (talk) 14:38, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
- Yes! I don't think taken down the list is the right thing but rather we updated the list to cover their other initiatives. Em-em talk 14:50, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
- There are thousands of items at sale at their webshop at the moment and those change once or twice a year. In my opinion no reason to list any ski models or shoe models or something like that at their wiki article. There are no product listings in Nike or Adidas or Puma articles. DukeDuck (talk) 15:11, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi, M-Mustapha. I’m just letting you know that I’ve restored DukeDuck’s edit to Salomon Group, in the future please don’t restore unsourced text to a page without finding a source regardless of why it was removed. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:15, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
- You are free! As per not being sourced. As you said in the future, for me I would still require why a content is removed? Em-em talk 23:59, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

- Some translatable pages on Meta could not be edited. This was because of a bug in the translation tool. The new MediaWiki version was delayed because of problems like this. [136][137]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 30 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 31 March. It will be on all wikis from 1 April (calendar).

AfroCine: 2020 Months of African Cinema Contest Winners
Greetings!
Thank you very much for participating in The 2020 Months of African Cinema Global Contest which was concluded on 30 November 2020. The contest was able exceed all expectations, with the creation of over 3,200 articles written in 19 languages. This places the contest firmly as one of the most successful article writing contest on Wikipedia.
A big thank you to you and every single person who created articles during the period of the contest for making this happen!
Please note that we have now concluded the review of all submitted articles, and winners have now been listed on the relevant page. We'd still be contacting everyone who has won something separately to send over their prizes. Thank you very much once again! --Jamie Tubers (talk) 23:45, 03 April 2021 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Editors can collapse part of an article so you have to click on it to see it. When you click a link to a section inside collapsed content it will now expand to show the section. The browser will scroll down to the section. Previously such links didn't work unless you manually expanded the content first. [138]
Changes later this week
- The citoid API will use for example
2010-12-XX
instead of2010-12
for dates with a month but no days. This is because2010-12
could be confused with2010-2012
instead ofDecember 2010
. This is called level 1 instead of level 0 in the Extended Date/Time Format. [139] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 April. It will be on all wikis from 8 April (calendar).
Future changes
- PAWS can now connect to the new Wiki Replicas. Cross-database
JOINS
will no longer work from 28 April. There is a new way to connect to the databases. Until 28 April both ways to connect to the databases will work. If you think this affects you and you need help you can post on Phabricator or on Wikitech.

Good Job
I just saw this, I’m not sure how that eluded me, but thanks for making the right judgement call. It’s pertinent for social media celebrities to understand that verified blue checks are worthless and means absolutely nothing on this collaborative project. - Email to the Wikimedia wikis are handled by groups of Wikimedia editors. These volunteer response teams now use Znuny instead of OTRS. The functions and interface remain the same. The volunteer administrators will give more details about the next steps soon. [140][141]
- If you use syntax highlighting, you can see line numbers in the 2010 and 2017 wikitext editors when editing templates. This is to make it easier to see line breaks or talk about specific lines. Line numbers will soon come to all namespaces. [142][143][144]
- Because of a technical change there could be problems with gadgets and scripts that have an edit summary area that looks similar to this one. If they look strange they should use
mw.loader.using('mediawiki.action.edit.styles')

Aham Rochas notability, from a NPOV
Sannu Musty,
Having taken careful notice of wiki requirements (especially with respect to Biography of Living Person etc) I want to humbly resubmit the article while acknowledging a measure of bias in this issue. My work with the foundation does indeed predispose me to see things in a certain light, but having acknowledged my bias i also resubmit based on these grounds:
the subject of the proposed entry is indeed of note and the tone is from a npov, and not promotional
1. by virtue of his family's prominence and being his father's first son, he is already mentioned on wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochas_Okorocha)
2. as per wiki guidelines the article has the requisite reliable, independent, verifiable sources https://leadership.ng/2019/04/13/fula-aham-rochas-group-making-a-mark-in-real-estate/ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/04/nigeria-is-a-natural-hub-for-some-of-best-minds-on-the-planet-aro-group-boss/ https://punchng.com/aham-rochas-big-dreams/ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/03/quality-education-is-key-to-africas-development-aham-rochas/ https://leadership.ng/aham-rochas-urges-govts-across-africa-to-rethink-the-future/ https://tribuneonlineng.com/aham-rochas-inducted-into-ahmadu-bello-hall-of-fame/ https://dailytrust.com/abduction-of-school-children-shouldnt-be-a-norm-aham-rochas https://www.sunnewsonline.com/it-inequality-increasing-wealth-gaps-are-intertwined/ https://www.legit.ng/1163255-rochas-okorocha-children.html https://www.gistmania.com/talk/topic,351272.0.html
Also, the fact that a death rumour was circulated in 2017 serves as proof of notability. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/son-ahamefula-alive-not-dead-cries-okorocha/ https://thewillnigeria.com/news/okorochas-first-son-seriously-ill-rushed-to-london-hospital/ https://www.fellowpress.com/politics/48443/okorochas-son-slumps-aham-flown-abroad-for-treatment/ https://www.informationng.com/2018/01/governor-rochas-okorocha-son-slumps-uk.html
One can tell you're a fair-minded person by the way you said 'maybe the near future', and in light of the principle of merit it does seem somehow unfair that some people should have privileges or notability/attention extended to them by virtue of birth circumstances or family name ...
but it is judgmental/biased to deny notability based on him doing the same thing as his father/family ... to use analogies Rockefeller Snr and Jnr likely have individual entries, as do Princes Charles and Harry/William.
I merely point out what I consider your bias not to antagonise or be problematic, but to help us reach consensus on this edit.
Please be assured of my wholesome intent to contribute, and also respect for you/this collaborative work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Morayce (talk • contribs)
- (talk page stalker), @Morayce, I’m sorry if this might sound harsh, but it is my candid opinion that you try to score cheap points by beginning this entry with ”Sannu” , this might come as a shocker to you but however, this collaborative project isn’t like the Nigeria we live in where nepotism or tribalistic sentiments triumph over competence and experience. Let me make it clear to you; proximity to notable persons doesn’t make one automatically notable, that is, notability isn’t inherited, a person is notable if they fulfill our WP:GOLDENRULE or the relevant SNG. Anything short of that wouldn’t be published on mainspace. Celestina007 (talk) 13:18, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
@celestina007 upon reflection it could seem patronizing or overly familiar, and therefore offensive; but I assure you 'sannu' didn't come from those intentions, or from 'trying to score cheap points'. If any was incidentally perceived please be assured that no insult was tendered/intended. The entry also isn't being argued for (solely) on the basis of lineage or proximity to notability, these are independently verifiable sources attesting to fulfilment of relevant WP guidelines: please consider these https://leadership.ng/2019/04/13/fula-aham-rochas-group-making-a-mark-in-real-estate/ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/04/nigeria-is-a-natural-hub-for-some-of-best-minds-on-the-planet-aro-group-boss/ https://punchng.com/aham-rochas-big-dreams/ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/03/quality-education-is-key-to-africas-development-aham-rochas/ https://leadership.ng/aham-rochas-urges-govts-across-africa-to-rethink-the-future/ https://tribuneonlineng.com/aham-rochas-inducted-into-ahmadu-bello-hall-of-fame/ https://dailytrust.com/abduction-of-school-children-shouldnt-be-a-norm-aham-rochas https://www.sunnewsonline.com/it-inequality-increasing-wealth-gaps-are-intertwined/ https://www.legit.ng/1163255-rochas-okorocha-children.html https://www.gistmania.com/talk/topic,351272.0.html https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/son-ahamefula-alive-not-dead-cries-okorocha/ https://thewillnigeria.com/news/okorochas-first-son-seriously-ill-rushed-to-london-hospital/ https://www.fellowpress.com/politics/48443/okorochas-son-slumps-aham-flown-abroad-for-treatment/ https://www.informationng.com/2018/01/governor-rochas-okorocha-son-slumps-uk.html , as you also consider offering specific critique about how one can improve the submission/draft.
- Hi Morayce, Please Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.
Thank you.. The Living love talk 17:20, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome talk I also beg pardon for slipping on tildes/signage ... I have a lot to learn/remember Morayce (talk) 10:14, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Problems
- The content translation tool did not work for many articles for a little while. This was because of a bug. [149]
- Some things will not work for about a minute on 5 May. This will happen around 06:00 UTC. This will affect the content translation tool and notifications among other things. This is because of an upgrade to avoid crashes. [150]
Changes later this week
- Reference Previews will become a default feature on a number of wikis on 5 May. This is later than planned because of some changes. You can use it without using Page Previews if you want to. The earlier plan was to have the preference to use both or none. [151][152]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 4 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 5 May. It will be on all wikis from 6 May (calendar).
Future changes
- The CSS classes
.error
,.warning
and.success
do not work for mobile readers if they have not been specifically defined on your wiki. From June they will not work for desktop readers. This can affect gadgets and templates. The classes can be defined in MediaWiki:Common.css or template styles instead. [153]
