The Excellent New Editor's Barnstar

A new editor on the right path
Hi Danimations, I've been following your career here with interest, and I think that you have been doing a great job of creating new articles very relevant to South Australia. Besides the WikiProject South Australia which you have already joined, there is also a WikiProject Adelaide, and some of us get together occasionally for Meetups - since we haven't had one for a while, I'll be calling for one to be held soon. In the meantime, as I'm sitting on a lot of reference material that may be of interest to you, please feel free to contact me off-line. Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 00:25, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Danimations, Thanks for the link for the Neptune Island Lighthouse. BTW, I have started a draft for a separate article about the Neptune Island Lighthouse as I have found a lot of specific material since I started ‘improving’ the Neptune Islands article in mid-2012. Little Penguins - you may find the following book to be of use - http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/files/5a7dbb25-70b9-4ceb-bbfd-a25800961994/offshore-islands-gen.pdf, particularly pages 51-55. As I have noticed that your area of interest overlaps with mine, I will get back to you in the future to see if there are any areas where we can collaborate. hi Danimations - Thanks for the note - i really appreciate it - i hope i'm doing this 'talk' thing the correct way... I'm still trying to track down more state-based info on little penguins - the map i found was as far as i've managed to get - my searches keep getting flooded by tourism links (bah!) Feedback needed on using special characters

[edit]

Hello. Thank you so much for using VisualEditor. Having editors use it is the best way for the Wikimedia Foundation to develop it into the best tool it can be.

While we always welcome general feedback (please report any issues in Bugzilla in the "VisualEditor" product or drop your feedback on the central feedback page on MediaWiki.org), the developers are especially interested right now in feedback on the special character inserter. This new tool is used for inserting special characters (including symbols like , IPA pronunciation symbols, mathematics symbols, and characters with diacritics). It is intended to help people whose computers do not have good character inserters. For example, many Mac users prefer to use the extensive "Special Characters…" tool present at the bottom of the Edit menu in all applications or to learn the keyboard shortcuts for characters like ñ and ü.

The current version of the special characters tool in VisualEditor is very simple and very basic. It will be getting a lot of work in the coming weeks and months. It does not contain very many character sets at this time. (The specific character sets can be customized at each Wikipedia, so that each project could have a local version with the characters it wants.) But the developers want your ideas at this early stage about ways that the overall concept could be improved. I would appreciate your input on this question, so please try out the character inserter and tell me what changes to the design would (or would not!) best work for you.

Screenshot of the Insert menu in VisualEditor
The "insert" pulldown on the task bar of VisualEditor will lead you to the '⧼visualeditor-specialcharacterinspector-title⧽' tool.
Screenshot of Special Characters tool
This is the ⧼visualeditor-specialcharacterinspector-title⧽ inserter as it appears on many wikis. (Some may have customized it.) Your feedback on this tool is particularly important.

Issues you might consider:

  • Do you normally use a character inserter? Which character sets are useful to you? Should it include all 18 of the character sets provided in the wikitext editor's newer toolbar at the English Wikipedia, the 10 present in the older editor toolbar, or some other combination of character sets?
  • How many special characters would you like to see at one time?
    • Should there be a "priority" or "favorites" section for the 10 or 12 characters that most editors need most often? Is it okay if you need an extra click to go beyond the limited priority set?
    • How should the sections be split up? Should they be nested? Ordered?
    • How should the sections be navigated? Should there be a drop-down? A nested menu?
  • The wikitext editor has never included many symbols and characters, like and . Do you find that you need these missing characters? If the character inserter in VisualEditor includes hundreds or thousands of special characters, will it be overwhelming? How will you find the character you want? What should be done for users without enough space to display more than a few dozen characters?
  • Should the character inserter be statically available until dismissed? Should it hover near the mouse? Should it go away on every selection or 10 seconds after a selection with no subsequent ones?
  • Some people believe that the toolbar already has too many options—how would you simplify it?

The developers are open to any thoughts on how the special character inserter can best be developed, even if this requires significant changes.

Please leave your views on the MediaWiki feedback page (your regular username/password works there), or, if you'd prefer, you can contact me directly on my talk page. It would be really helpful if you can tell me how frequently you need to use special characters in your typical editing and what languages are important to you.

Thank you again for your work with VisualEditor and for any feedback you can provide. I really do appreciate it. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 23:42, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The extent of Encounter Bay

[edit]

Hi Danimations, This is a courtesy message. For some time, I have been looking for information about the maritime boundaries that apply in South Australia, in particular, the sea-ward limits of the two gulfs, Investigator Strait and Backstairs Passage. Earlier this week, I found a proclamation made under the Seas and Submerged Lands Act 1973 in 2006 that describes the extent of the following four bays - Anxious Bay, Encounter Bay, Lacepede Bay and Rivoli Bay - please refer Explanatory Statement Seas and Submerged Lands (Historic Bays) Proclamation 2006. The proclamation itself (please refer Proclamation 2006) contains coordinates for the sea-ward limits for the four above-mentioned bays which I was able to plot onto charts. Of immediate interest, is Encounter Bay whose most westerly point of the sea-ward limit is the south tip of Rosetta Head (aka The Bluff) with the most easterly point being a point on the Younghusband Peninsula. This means that West Island ceased to be in Encounter Bay as of 15 February 2006 according to Australian authorities (including SA). Accordingly, I have just edited both the Encounter Bay and West Island articles to reflect this situation. Trust the above explanation is satisfactory. Regards Cowdy001 (talk) 09:57, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly is, Cowdy001. Well done with your tenacity and attention to detail. I trust you've made the corresponding edits already. I'll take a look at the info re: the two gulfs. Danimations (talk) 11:41, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The story with the two gulfs appears to a bit different; I am still working thru this item. These were apparently declared in 1983 as being waters internal to SA along with several other bays under the Seas and Submerged Lands Act 1973. The four historic bays listed above were done separately after 1983 at the express request of the SA government. I will upgrade the articles for the two gulfs when I have found enough reference material which may take some time. Regards Cowdy001 (talk) 07:39, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Protected areas of South Australia

[edit]

Hi Danimations, I refer to your recent edit of Protected areas of South Australia. I have the following comments. Firstly, the “American River, Kangaroo Island” - the American River Aquatic Reserve protects the waters of Pelican Lagoon while the Pelican Lagoon Conservation Park protects the islands (presumably above low water) and some adjoining land on the small peninsula to the north of the lagoon. The extent of the aquatic reserve is shown on http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/65413/13._AqResWeb.pdf while the extent of the Pelican Lagoon Conservation Park can be viewed on Nature Maps. In effect, the two protected areas complement each other; this is what the Pelican Lagoon Conservation Park article states. Therefore, the entry for ‘American River, Kangaroo Island’ needs to be restored. Secondly, the ‘Great Australian Bight Marine Park, far west coast’ - the link is to the former Commonwealth Government controlled reserve. It needs to be changed to the Great Australian Bight Marine National Park. The Commonwealth Park management plan advises in the Foreword that ‘The State Marine Park, in the State (coastal) waters of the Bight, combines a whale sanctuary established under the Fisheries Act 1982 (SA) and a marine national park established under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 (SA)’. It would appear that the State Marine Park is the ‘‘Far West Coast Marine Park’ and that the aquatic reserve may be the ‘Great Australian Bight Marine Park Whale Sanctuary’. However, the management plan for the ‘Far West Coast Marine Park’ does have the words ‘Great Australian Bight aquatic reserve’ on a number of the maps at the back of the plan - please refer http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/files/775d4df7-c35a-4e04-a510-a1170099e60c/mp-gen-1farwestcoast-managementplan.pdf. Thirdly, West Island Aquatic Reserve is not in Gulf St Vincent, it is either in the Great Australian Bight (i.e. the international view) or the Southern Ocean (i.e. the Australian Government’s view). I noticed that the Wikipedia aligns with the former position - somewhere within the Wikipedia, I did see a discussion which resolved to go with the international view. If you wish to reply to the above, please place it on this page so that the discussion does not extent to multiple pages. I have added this page to my wishlist in order to see any reply that you may make. I will remove the page from my watchlist after the conclusion of any discussion re the above. Regards Cowdy001 (talk) 06:49, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the detailed response, Cowdy001. Here's my response to your three points (you may have already noted that the section on the page in question has already been revised with your feedback implemented).

1) It appears that PIRSA refers to the aquatic reserve by both 'American river Aquatic Reserve' and 'Pelican Lagoon Aquatic Reserve'. As such I've amended the list to read American River/Pelican Lagoon, Kangaroo Island. Do you know which is the current gazetted title? Apparently it was re-declared in 2007.

2) I've removed the link to the GAB park, as I was and am still unfamiliar with this territory. I simply added a link (which I've since removed) and I admit that link was made in haste.

3) I've revised West Island to acknowledge Southern Ocean as the locale, not Gulf St. Vincent. I have concerns regarding use of either Southern Ocean or Great Australian Bight as locales for this, as there are two West Islands in South Australia, the other being found on the far west coast of Eyre Peninsula.

Thanks for your attention to detail as always. Danimations (talk) 10:40, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

edit war warning

[edit]
Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Bayer shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Per WP:BRD, if you are bold and make a change, and are reverted, the appropriate thing is to open a discussion on Talk. Simply re-reverted is edit warring, and if you continue, you will get blocked. Please open a discussion on Talk. If you don't know how to do that, please ask. You can ask here, I am now watching your Talk page. Jytdog (talk) 17:24, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Legend in Mining award

Hi, I'm Astrocog. Danimations, thanks for creating Legend in Mining award!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This article should provide 3rd party references to show notability for the award itself. These references seem to be focused on the recipients. Reference 5 for example doesn't even give the name of the award or who awarded it.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. AstroCog (talk) 23:25, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid also had to remove copyvio at Tony Irwin, where content had been copied more or less verbatim from http://www.smrnuclear.com.au/index.php/man/14-tony-irwin-technical-director.html. All content you add to Wikipedia must be written entirely in your own words. Please confirm that you do clearly understand that – it's worrying to find problems of this kind in the work of an established editor. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 00:10, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Looking further up this page, I find Paul Heithersay, where I removed copyvio in September last year. Please understand this: aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the wording of the source too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; please see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Editors who who persistently violate our copyright policies may be blocked from editing. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 00:20, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message, Justlettersandnumbers. Clearly in my haste to create new content my discipline has lapsed. I will be more attentive to this matter in the future and will rewrite the articles above asap. Sincere apologies. Danimations (talk) 00:25, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rabbit Island

[edit]

Hi Danimations, Thanks for your message. I suggest the following approach. Delete the “disambiguation” section from your article, transfer the content to the disambiguation page called Rabbit Island and put in a new heading called “Australia” which is easily justified as there are 14 Rabbit Islands in Australia. Then, add a hatnote to the head of your article stating that your article is about the Rabbit Island in Louth Bay. I also have some comments about your article - I will put on these on the article’s talk page. Regards Cowdy001 (talk) 06:10, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Danimations, firstly , in response to your message on my talk page, I found 14 Rabbit Islands within Australia using the Geoscience Australia's Place Names Search. Secondly, I have decided to place the following comments about the article here rather than on the article's talk page. The following has been added to the article: hatnote, “dmy date” & “Australian English” templates, infobox, “convert” templates, a link to National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972, DEFAULTSORT, and “Category:Spencer Gulf”. I also added two citations in order to support the location of the island within both Louth Bay and Lincoln National Park and upgraded the title of the Property Location Browser citation to avoid criticism of the reliability of the source. I also added a “R with possibilities” template to the redirect Louth Bay redirect to ensure the possibility of starting of an article about the bay in the future. I have a comment about statement that the French name given to the island presumably by the Baudin expedition is an 'alternative name". Strictly speaking, “alternative names’ do not exist under the Geographical Names Act 1991 where the only arrangement for two names to exist for one geographical name is a class called “dual geographical name” which consists of an aboriginal place name and another name assigned by the Minister (presumably a name of European origin). The Place Names (Gazetteer) on that Property Location Browser indicates that “Ile Raynal” is classed as a “Recorded (Historical) name - applied to minor cultural features that no longer exist, or to the former name of any feature that could be classified as GEOG or RECD that has had its name changed”. FYI, the Baudin expedition, published its findings before Flinders did in 1814. The second edition of the Baudin expedition report which was published circa 1826 restored all of the names given by Flinders, presumably in response to the international criticism of its action not to acknowledge that Flinders (and possibly others such as Grant) had ‘discovered’ a large part of the South Australian coastline before it did and especially as Flinders had generously provided details of his discoveries to Baudin in April 1802 including where to find food and water. I suspect this is the reason why “Ile Raynal” is listed on the Place Names (Gazetteer) as being the “previous name” because it was the name in use within the European part of the world prior to its withdrawal. I'm very impressed by the extent and general quality of your work. But I'm not sure all of the individual bios would meet the notability requirements, and I've nominated a few of them for deletion, but I don't mean that as a challenge to your work in general. I do have two specific points: First, you are frequently using phrases such as "considered the most important" -- these sort of indications of quality or importance are best avoided altogether, for the article should show the importance from the positions and the awards. As a minimum, they need a reliable third party source. Second, it's the normal order for a bio to first give the general bio material including the education, then the successive positions in chronological order, and then describe the person's accomplishments, followed by publications and awards. Putting the bio material at the end is the standard style for press releases, not encycopedia articles. I know you're not doing press releases, but covering a large industry in a npov manner, but you still need to avoid giving the impression. DGG ( talk ) 22:06, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello, Danimations. Following on an old request at WP:CP following the listings above, I have been reviewing some of your other content. I've found a few articles that closely paraphrase their sources to one degree or another including a couple that could not be fixed in the moment and have had to be blanked in part or entirely for rewriting: Silex Systems and Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission. It seems quite clear to me that you are working in good faith, particularly as you seem to scrupulously cite your sources. The bot did not find any issue in any article I evaluated that came from an uncited source. But it is really critical that you ensure that content you add meets the requirement of WP:C and WP:NFC. Wikipedia:Copy-paste has a high level overview of our copyright policies, but, in a nutshell, unless you can verify that the source is public domain or compatibly licensed (in which case content must be handled as described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism), content should be written in your own words and structure aside from brief and clearly marked quotations. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:06, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message Moonriddengirl and for following up these articles. They were written at a time where I got ahead of myself in a rush to generate new content, and I admit (as I have previously) that my diligence in rewriting material lapsed at this time. Thanks for acknowledging my good faith editing practise- I have taken notice of this and prior warnings regarding close paraphrasing etc. and will avoid these hasty practices in the future. --Danimations (talk) 04:39, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind going over your previous edits and checking them for problems? You'll probably know which articles are problematic more than we do, and the process where we do such checks is massively backlogged. MER-C 07:16, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission

[edit]

Hi Danimations,

I responded to your concerns but have had no reply. I'm wondering if you are going to respond considering the unwarranted personal tagging you made. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Nuclear_Fuel_Cycle_Royal_Commission#What_happened_to_agreed_plans_to_.27fork_out.27_content.3F

Thanks, Raidelaide (talk) 10:58, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note here, Raidelaide. After revisiting your contribs I can still see no evidence that your interest in contributing to this encyclopedia extends beyond the one article: Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission. I am concerned that your contributions thus far to the encyclopedia have been dominated by subtraction of vast swathes of referenced content, which should have been individually appraised and in most cases, I would argue, moved rather than removed from the encyclopedia entirely. Your eagerness to remove the WP:SPA tag is also concerning, since it was and continues to be an accurate description of your wikipedia contributions to date. This is not unwarranted "personal tagging" but an accurate description of your account's status at the time you made those comments. Will you be expanding the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission article at all in the future, or any others? --Danimations (talk) 05:00, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Danimations. This message is being sent to inform you that a request for a contributor copyright investigation has been filed at Contributor copyright investigations concerning your contributions to Wikipedia in relation to Wikipedia's copyrights policy. The listing can be found here. For some suggestions on responding, please see Responding to a CCI case. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:56, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! There's some uncertainty as to whether a complete check of your contributions is needed or not, so the request I've made may anyway be declined; however, my personal feeling is that everyone including you would be more comfortable if such a check were done. There's nothing you need to do about this, though a reply to the question MER-C left you above might be helpful – it's really a lot easier for you to identify any copying there may have been than for someone else to do it. Proposed deletion of Black Hole (2015 film)

[edit]

The article Black Hole (2015 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

General notability criteria don't appear to be met, and neither appear the specific criteria of WP:NOTFILM to have been met either.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Humboldt Squid

[edit]

Hello Danimations would you willing to help me with a citation needed on the Humboldt squid article. If you do take interest I have a section made in the talk page (Humboldt Squid Intelligence). The Wiki Rabbit 02:17, 27 October 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by The WikiRabbit (talkcontribs)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Premier's Climate Change Council requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi Danimations, I have some suggestions. Firstly, the inclusion of sections about “Role and origins” and “History” (or maybe “History and achievements”) would be helpful. A possible source of information is the six annual reports for the Premier's Climate Change Council which can be downloaded from the DEWNR website. Just paste “Premier's Climate Change Council’ into the search box on the home page. Secondly, with respect to the “Membership” section, content explaining from what sectors of the community the members are sourced from should be added. Also, the “dot point” lists should be converted into a paragraph of names in alphabetical order with the words “(chair)” after the person who currently has this responsibility. I suggest this for two reasons - firstly, the ‘lists’ do dominate the article and secondly, as the article does not appear to be intended to be a list as per WP guidance. I will have a look again early tomorrow morning. Regards Cowdy001 (talk) 10:57, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

An update from the Sustainability Initiative

[edit]
Thank you for supporting the Sustainability Initiative!

Hi, Danimations! Thank you again for supporting the Sustainability Initiative, which aims at reducing the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement. Over the past two years, more than 200 Wikipedians from all over the world have come together to push the Wikimedia movement towards greater sustainability.

What's new?

We are writing you this message because there is great news: The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has finally passed a resolution stating that the Foundation is committed to seeking ways to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment. Also, we have created a cool logo and found a nice name for the project which you can see on the right :-)

What's next?

Currently, we are working with Wikimedia Foundation staff to make sustainability a key priority for the selection of a new location for Wikimedia servers in Singapore. Also, we have presented the Wikimedia Foundation with a green energy roadmap to have all Wikimedia servers run on renewable energy by 2019.

Please help!

Let's keep this project moving forward – and there are several ways in which you can help:

  • Ask other Wikipedians to sign the project page as well – this way we can show the Wikimedia Foundation that this is an issue that the community really cares about.
  • Talk to Wikimedians you know about the importance of reducing the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement.
  • Improve and translate the project page on Meta.

If you have any questions, you can contact us on on Meta. Again, thank you very much for your support! --Aubrey und Gnom, 2 April 2017

Ways to improve Tony Webb (social scientist)

[edit]

Hi, I'm Hydronium Hydroxide. Danimations, thanks for creating Tony Webb (social scientist)!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. It isn't clear that article subject meets either general or subject-specific (WP:NACADEMIC, WP:NAUTHOR) notability guidelines. A promising line might be the books (WP:NBOOK) -- if significant coverage from reliable sources could be shown, then that would suffice. Of the sources that are currently there, the only possibly independent coverage of Webb is the GLW article (and there could be some debate on its reliability, and it's really about irradiation rather than Webb).

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Thanks for finding the NS source. Still not convinced that Tony Webb really meets notability criteria, but (FWIW) I reckon that his co-author on that book would (eg: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2007/mar/25/foodanddrink.features5). ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 10:02, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fair Use in Australia campaign update

[edit]

I'm writing you this followup message, as you took the time to list your comment regarding a Wikipedia banner campaign for the introduction of Fair Use in Australia.

After much planning and coordination with the WMF, Australian Digital Alliance, and Electronic Frontiers Australia, as of Monday the banner-campaign is active on English Wikipedia to a portion of logged-out readers in Australia (technical details). The banners direct people to this page on Meta: FairCopyrightOz. That page, alongside lots of information, further directs people towards the campaign website faircopyright.org.au where Australians are invited to write to their local MP to express support of Fair Use. If you are interested in supporting this campaign, please, send a letter yourself using the template letter provided at that link.

Furthermore, and with the support of the ADA & EFA, we have received fantastic media coverage - with article "Fair Use: Wikipedia targets Australians in bid to change the law" appearing on page 2 of the Sydney Morning Herald and page 10 of the Melbourne Age on Monday's edition. It was for a time the 3rd most read article the Fairfax website, and Fair Use was "trending" on Twitter in Australia. We are running the account @FairCopyrightOz on twitter, and we are tracking other press-mentions on the talkpage on Meta.

Today, day 2, we published a detailed post about the campaign on the Wikimedia Blog, ran an "Ask Me Anything" Q&A session on the Australia page in Reddit, and [by happy coincidence of timing] the article History of fair use proposals in Australia appeared on the en.wp mainpage as a Did You Know. [The creation of that "history of..." article was a specific request arising from in the community consultation in which you voted].

And, most importantly, in a little more than a day nearly 800 letters to MPs have been sent encouraging them to support the Productivity Commission's recommendation to adopt Fair Use in Australia. I urge you - please add your own message.

Sincerely, Wittylama 16:14, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Articy:draft

[edit]

Hello Danimations,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Articy:draft for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Hello Danimations, What about the hours of sunshine in the climate table. Is it the number of hours per day? Or per month but I think that should be times 10. best regards, Koos van den beukel (talk) 19:03, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The cited ref doesn't give a monthly breakdown, only the total hours of bright sunshine per year. The figures in the table seem to be the average daily hours, per month. Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 22:13, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Paul Deb has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Minor civil servant where there is an account claiming to be the subject blanking the overwhelming majority of the article. PRODing this per WP:BLPREQUESTDELETE as it seems borderline notable at best.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Can you check...

[edit]

I noticed an edit of yours that included the unusual word 'troupes' with regard to "Boy Scouts". Unusual in that by far the more usual word would be 'troops'. Searching using Google does find occurrences of "Boy Scout" and 'troupe'/'troupes', but most often it is in an article/page title, with the text (more easily corrected?) containing 'troop'. Strange.

Anyway, was this a typo at Boondoggle? Shenme (talk) 02:33, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish to prevent the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click Publish Changes button.

But, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the raised issues. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

Hi Danimations. Is the above article a machine translation of es:Iseo & Dodosound? You mentioned that you don't speak Spanish, so I'm just wondering what your process was creating this article. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 19:08, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking, Lord Bolingbroke. Yes, I used Google translate to translate each section of the Spanish Wikipedia article. On appraisal, it seemed simple enough for me to faithfully copyedit from there, given that I had some prior knowledge of the subject. While there is some risk of inaccuracy, I would like to see the article verified and kept if possible. --Danimations (talk) 06:17, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In accordance with WP:TFOLWP, you should explicitly specify when you are translating a page and provide an interwiki link to the original article. This attribution is necessary to satisfy the CC BY-SA license of most Wikimedia projects. I went ahead and provided attribution in this edit and also added {{translated page}} to the talk page. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 15:49, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Iseo & Dodosound moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Iseo & Dodosound, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 14:13, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CASSIOPEIA... can I include citations if they point to sources that are written in Spanish? The article is a cleaned up machine translation of a Spanish wikipedia article, which has appropriate citations. --Danimations (talk) 14:28, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Danimation, Greetings. Sources can be in any languages as long as they are independent, reliable (need min 3 sources) so the content claimed can be verify. Source from official website, user generated site, sources associated with the subject, interviews and etc can NOT be used to demonstrate/contribute to the notability requirement needed. Pls do write the article yourself and not using the machine translation. Pls see referencing on citation info and instruction. Once you have provided the inline citations, then click submit button. Let me know if anything else I could help. Cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 14:35, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
CASSIOPEIA, I'm not sure that draftifying was the right call here. A quick Google search turns up plenty of Spanish-language sources, such as this, this, this, this, and this, plus some English-language coverage such as this. I'm sure a native speaker would be able to find more sources. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 17:49, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again Danimations. I went ahead and added these sources to the draft and made a few other tweaks. What do you say to submitting the draft for review? – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 02:49, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Iseo & Dodosound

Hello, Danimations. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Iseo & Dodosound".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Notice

The article Jimblah has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. linking to dab pages

[edit]

Hallo, when you created Rachel Noble you linked to the disambiguation page at Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet instead of the intended page at Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (Australia). I've fixed it.

There's a very useful "gadget" you can instal which alerts you when you link to a disambiguation page: if you go to "Preferences", "Gadgets", and look 5th from the bottom of the "Appearance" section there's "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange". Tick that, and it does what it says. I find it really helpful. (It's also always worth checking every link you create, anyway, just in case it doesn't lead where you expect it to: it may be a blue link but leading to a primary topic which isn't what, or who, you intended). If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Filastine requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Valenciano (talk) 11:06, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Valenciano... I took a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(music) and believe that the artist's longevity and reviews posted as references should have been sufficient to prevent the speedy deletion which seems to have occurred between my creation of the article and logging in today. How do I appeal this decision and make a case for the reinstatement of the article? --Danimations (talk) 04:44, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Australian hip hop

When you create an article like this with a "disambiguated" title, please make sure that the reader can find it from the basic name (ie Claye ), by adding or expanding a hatnote, or adding the article to a disambiguation page. This helps the reader to find the new article, and also reduces the chance of a future careless editor creating a duplicate article with a slightly different disambiguator. I've fixed this one: I created a disambiguation page at Claye, overwriting the redirect to Will Claye, but a simpler solution would have been to follow that redirect and then add {{redirect|Claye|the reggae musician|Claye (musician)}} to the top of Will Claye, to which "Claye" redirected until I changed it just now. Thanks, and Happy Editing. PamD 09:42, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
