Mathnerd 101, you are invited to the Teahouse
Hi Mathnerd 101! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. |
Speedy
Just FYI, you tried to tag a page using db-notability. Instead, use db-a7, or a more specific template, such as db-person. Uberaccount (talk) 03:21, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice! I'll try to read up more on user talk space templates. --Mathnerd 101 (talk) 15:57, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Hey there! I noticed that you recently attempted to tag a page for deletion, but accidentally used a nonexistent template. I would suggest activating Twinkle, a tool that adds many templates automatically including vandal warnings, user welcomes, and deletion templates! That way, you can just click a button or two and, voila! A CSD template! You can do this by heading to your preferences and going to the Gadgets tab. Happy editing! TCN7JM 03:24, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice, but my computer has a really ancient internet connection, and I don't think it could handle a tool like twinkle. --Mathnerd 101 (talk) 15:56, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
A note on speedies and book articles
A comment on your note at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The God Tree (novel) - you were quite right to feel a doubt about tagging it for speedy. WP:CSD#A7 doesn't apply to books, and though there was certainly promotional intent in the article, it wasn't actually written in such promotional terms as to qualify for WP:CSD#G11. Those are two tags that people often put, incorrectly, on articles about non-notable books, so you did well to avoid the temptation! WP:CSD#G3 blatant hoax would have been possible, because of the false Booker claim (and I cited it in closing the AfD early), but if in any doubt, particularly if an AfD is already running, it's best to leave it to AfD. For the frequent articles about non-notable newly-published books, it is worth trying PROD: if the PROD reason is something explanatory like "there is no indication that this newly-published book is notable to the standard of WP:Notability (books)", the article author sometimes gets the message and does not de-PROD, so the trouble of an AfD is saved.
If you are going to do New Page Patrol (which is a very good and useful thing to do) it's worth reading WP:CSD carefully, and re-reading it from time to time. There is also good advice for speedy taggers from an experienced admin at WP:10CSD and WP:A7M. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 17:25, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi JohnCD. Thank you for your advice. As I'm not much of an expert in any subject I'll probably be doing a lot of routine cleanup work, such as new page patrol. I'll keep your advice in mind while I do so. --Mathnerd 101 (talk | contribs) 17:40, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi! I saw you changed your vote to keep on the Wind Music Awards AFD and wanted to let you know that editors can withdraw their AFD nominations. In this case, if you like, you would also be able to close the discussion as speedy keep, as no one has supported deletion.
ETA: Of course, you are not required to do any of this—it would be fine to leave it as is. – 29611670.x (talk) 00:47, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Matthews Beach Park, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Meadowbrook (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

2011 NBA Finals Edit
The Aftermath section of the Finals was removed because the page for the Finals should be just the 2011 Finals. The Aftermath section doesn't need to be included because the next season (2012) has no bearing on the 2011 Finals. If you want to add a section on the 2012 season, put it in that section. What happened in 2012 and 2013 do not need to be in the 2011 Finals section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.160.214.125 (talk) 14:16, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for pointing that out, as you made a very good point. I didn't take a close look at the content that you had removed, only at the edit summary, which showed that you had removed a large amount of content from said article. Since most large deletions are, in fact, not constructive (even though yours obviously was), I quickly reverted it and posted the message on your talk page. Next time you edit, especially if you remove a large amount of content, be sure to provide a reason in the edit summary, which is at the bottom of the editing box. - Hello, and Welcome to Wikipedia! Unfortunately, you removed several categories, which let readers know what other pages are related that they may wish to read, such as Category:Living people. If you can confirm that Sanjay Rastogi is indeed dead, you must provide a reliable source in compliance with Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons. Such unexplained removal of content is discouraged. The notability of Sanjay Rastogi also seems to be well established, since it's revision history indicates that it has existed for more than a year and has not been tagged for deletion. 161.253.11.22 Edit RE: Boston Marathon bombings
I explained why it was deleted in the talk page. There is still much speculation that the attacks could have had foreign influences. It is not confirmed yet that it is entirely domestic and it should not be considered domestic terrorism until it is actually confirmed. Wikipedia isn't a place for speculation. 161.253.11.22 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:38, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

I believe that was a quick action conducted through your account which place they deletion tag upon mine. If you overlook all of the information quickly realize that this account much as yours has acted within all guidelines. If at all possible, and if you are willing. Please revise this tag and reverse or remove. Thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dabwire (talk • contribs) 13:22, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Dabwire, and welcome to Wikipedia!. Thank you for alerting me of your opinion. I've been pretty busy reverting vandalism and such on Wikipedia up until now, I don't quite remember what the page contained. It must have seemed promotional to me, so I tagged it for speedy deletion, especially since your username is also the name of a company. If you would like your page to be restored as it was, you can request it to be undeleted by following the instructions on Wikipedia:Undeletion policy/process, since only administrators can delete or undelete pages. You may, however, have to request the deletion of your current userpage, which you can do by placing the text db-userreq at the top of the edit window for your userpage.
- Another note: As your username is apparently the name of a corporation, you may want to request a username change, which you can do by going to Wikipedia:Changing username and following the instructions there. However, If you work for or are associated with Dabwire, be aware that Wikipedia does not allow advertising or shared accounts. If not, ignore the previous sentence. Happy editing! --Mathnerd 101 (What I have done) (What have I done?) 22:28, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.170.179.154 (talk) 17:24, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Unfortunately, an edit made to Kerry Rhodes does trace to your IP address. In case you didn't know, IP addresses are used on Wikipedia to identify users that are not logged in. IP addresses are often shared by multiple computers, and they are almost always used by multiple people. Therefore, that your IP address was used to edit Kerry Rhodes is no indication whatsoever that you were the person who made the edit. Someone using your IP address obviously did edit the article on Kerry Rhodes, however. If your computer is part of a network, such as one used by a company, school, or government agency, and such unconstructive editing continues, you may wish to advisers of your computer network not to make unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Speedy deletion
can you elaborate why the page should deleted — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rajeshdeb (talk • contribs) 22:59, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hello, and Welcome to Wikipedia! The page should be deleted because it was apparently copied directly from another source, which was subject to copyright. As the page is (or was) apparently a copyright violation, and, since Wikipedia has a policy that any content that infringes copyrights should be deleted to avoid lawsuits, it may soon be deleted. In addition, the page is apparently largely promotional, and Wikipedia has a policy against advertising or promotion. If you have any further questions, I'll be pretty busy for the next couple hours, but you can visit the help desk instead. Also, be sure to sign your posts with four tildes, like this ~~~~, and be sure to click the tab "New section" at the top of a talk page when you start a new topic. Edits
Hello! I'm finally learning my way around.
First, let me apologize for blundering around the page over the last few days. My attempts to recommend edits were extremely sloppy.
Second, I wanted to express how impressed I am with the amount of research and new information presented by this page concerning Meridian Hill Park.
I wanted to make some edits regarding format and flow to protect scholarly effort you've presented.
In the opening paragraph, you do a very good job of presenting the nomenclature. The inclusion of "The park is also unofficially known as "Malcolm X Park"[2] by some city residents." should not be included in this paragraph. This statement expands upon a part of the park's history and should be moved down to the paragraph where you mention Angela Davis.
I would also recommend that you consider creating a subsection dedicated to why some folks refer to Meridian Hill Park as Malcom X Park, and why others reject the practice. That information would go a long way to educate many on the issue and would preserve academic presentation.
A applaud that you have taken the time to learn this very complicated format, and I thank you for contributing such a well written piece. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Collegehillgrp (talk • contribs) 15:48, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Your request for rollback
Hi SamX. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! INeverCry 19:00, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi SamX, I'm the IP you decided to plaster a meaningless template on my talk page. Please enlighten me how one cites addition of a category, which was in fact a revert of someone removing the category which has existed in the article since at least January 2012 (I couldn't be bother going further back than that). If you look at the text of the article you'll find the text "He was convicted of several crimes, and received a suspended prison sentence in 1994 for computer fraud". That's cited to a source which states "..is being flicked off to a high-profile German con-artist and fraudster..." and "Although being convicted of 11 charges of computer fraud,...". It comes up elsewhere in the article cited to other sources which say things like "In 1998, he was convicted of 11 counts of computer fraud, 10 counts of data espionage, and an assortment of other charges.". So quite what you think is lacking is quite beyond me. --86.5.93.42 (talk) 20:02, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia, if you're not familiar with this place already. I decided to remove the category you added, since there didn't seem to be much consensus to add it, although it probably belongs there. Feel free to raise the issue on the talk page, if you are repeatedly reverted. However, I'm just about to restore the category, so there probably isn't any need. - Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Unfortunately, the subject of the article that you removed a speedy deletion tag from did not appear to satisfy Wikipedia's notability guideline, which means that it is not widely known enough to be supported by so it was tagged for speedy deletion. As the speedy deletion tag said, the tag is not to be removed, but, instead, if you disagree with the reason given for deletion, you can click the "Contest this speedy deletion" button, which will allow you to fill out a form indicating why you think the article should not be deleted. A patrolling administrator will then read your message and decide whether or not your explanation is sufficient. If you have any further questions, you can ask me on my talk page or check out some of the links in the message I've left on your talk page.
- About talk page techniques: When you start a new topic, click the "New section" tab near the top right hand corner of the page. Also, be sure to sign your talk page posts by typing four tildes, like this ~~~~, which will automatically produce your username, a link to your talk page, and the date and time that you left the comment on your talk page. Also, when replying to a talk page comment, put one more colon in front of your post, which will indent your comment, making discussions easier to follow. - Unfortunately, the page that you created was, as the notice on your talk page says, an entirely unsourced biography of a living person. Such pages are not tolerated on Wikipedia due to our policy on neutrality, verifiability, and for legal issues, as well. Furthermore, Wikipedia does not in any way claim to be a democracy or to uphold "free speech" as one of it's central policies, and is not a place to post "the truth" as you see it, and you would do well to avoid making implications that other editors behave like a Nazi hitman. Just a head's up, I undid your non-admin close on the AfD as the article hasn't been deleted yet at the time I write this. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:20, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- Wouldn't it be preferred to archive a deletion discussion as soon the article was tagged for speedy deletion, which would effectively resolve the issue raised in the discussion? --SamX‧☎‧✎ 15:24, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- No, because the CSD may be challenged or declined (unlikely in this case, but possible in others), and you should not close a deletion discussion in which you have also tagged the article for CSD, as you have a conflict of interest. Generally, you should reserve non-admin closures for those where the AfD has run the full 7 days. See WP:NAC#Inappropriate closures. In this instance, the article is (IMHO) a perfectly legitimate candidate for G11, so just sit back and wait. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:29, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice. I probably should have read up on WP:GD before closing. My apologies for the somewhat defensive, quizzical comment on your talk page. --SamX‧☎‧✎ 15:34, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it. Non-admin closures, when done correctly, are very much appreciated, as it takes some of the workload off admins. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:39, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

I removed your speedy deletion template along with the spam on the page that I'm guessing prompted it. The template itself is valid. There wasn't a talk page attached until that IP came along, though. Speedy deletion might have thrown out the baby with the bath water. Rklear (talk) 16:09, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I wasn't aware that the template itself would also be tagged when I tagged it using Twinkle. --SamX‧☎‧✎ 16:11, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
Mobatec
Message from Mobatec: — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mobatec (talk • contribs) 16:58, 1 July 2013 (UTC) Hi Sam, I hope I should post my message here... this talk section is rather confusing for new users... Here is my reply to your message: I'm a bit surprised that you think it was inappropriate to add a link to the list of process simulators, since Mobatec has a state of the art Process Simulator. On the other hand, I'm completely new to this Wikipedia editing (I just made an account an hour ago), so I might have been violating some rules. In which case I offer my apologies, of course. Could you help me out on how to get our simulator listed in this list then? Our tool certainly belongs in that list. You can check our website, if you have doubts... Kind regards, Mathieu. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mobatec (talk • contribs) 16:57, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia. Unfortunately, you added promotional material to an article, and your username implies a promotional intent and shared use. Users are strongly discouraged from editing articles or contributing content related to the business or organization that they work for. Since your username is promotional, and your account seems to be intended for promotional purposes, you are likely to become blocked from editing. When you are blocked, take a moment to read the message left on your talk page, then submit a reply accordingly. If you have not yet been blocked, and you intend to contribute without promoting your company or product, you may go to this page to request a change of username to one that is not promotional and does not imply shared use. I also highly recommend that you read this policy page, as well as this one in order to get an idea of what is appropriate for an encyclopedia and what is not. If you would like to learn more about contributing constructively to Wikipedia, consider reading our welcome page.
- About talk page techniques: When you post on a talk page, please sign your posts with four tildes, like this ~~~~, which will automatically produce the date and time of your post, your username, and a link to your talk page. Furthermore, when starting a new topic, click the "new section" tab at the top right corner of the page. Please see this page for more info about using talk pages. Thank you. --SamX‧☎‧✎ 17:13, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for July 3
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bruneian English, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page English (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Please do not create doppelganger accounts for other editors to prevent impersonation. There are literally millions of possible substitutions that one could make, so there is no way you can prevent them all. As it is, the doppelganger accounts just look like spoofs themselves. Thanks. Retierment??
Wait a second, don't tell me you are leaving Wikipedia? sigh, it looks like vandal fighting got a lot harder.. Well anyways I wish you all the best for the future! Godspeed Prabash.Akmeemana 14:04, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not leaving Wikipedia, and I'm definitely here to stay, although I briefly considered leaving due to this massive misunderstanding. I have decided to take a break from vandal fighting, though, and I'll be at summer camp for most of the next three weeks. Thanks for your consideration! :-) --SamX‧☎‧✎ 17:04, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
- Well that's good! I also see that was your first note of caution. Don't worry things like that always happen, it's happened to me countless times , well anyways have fun at your summer camp! Prabash.Akmeemana 17:37, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Codendi (software)
Hello SamX. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Codendi (software), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article is not substantially the same as the deleted version. A new deletion discussion is required. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 02:23, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
Brunei English
Dear SamX, You changed the title of my newly-submitted article from 'Brunei English' to 'Bruneian English'. Can I please ask you to change it back? Bruneian English is not a term that is used. The term that is used is Brunei English. Just like Singapore English — it is Singapore English, not Singaporean English. Thank you. David deterding (talk) 02:32, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- You can move it yourself. Just click the arrow that points down at the top of the page, then click "Move" and follow the instructions listed on the resulting page. --SamX‧☎‧✎ 02:36, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- Many thanks. I've done that now. David deterding (talk) 01:12, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

SamX, I'm wondering how you actually made your talk page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crab rangoons (talk • contribs) 19:36, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- I didn't really "make" my talk page. It was started when I was welcomed by another user. I created the header which says "This is SamX's talk page, where you can send messages and comments to SamX", I put the text talk header (including the curly brackets) at the top. The table of contents is automatically generated by the MediaWiki software, so there's no need to create your own table of contents.
- About talk page techniques: Always be sure to sign your posts with four tildes, like this ~~~~, which will automatically produce your username, the date, and a link to your talk page. Additionally, when replying to a post, put one more colon than the previous post had in front of your text, which would make the thread look like this in the edit window:
Hi, what's up? --Some user (talk) :I'm sitting in front of a computer. --Example (talk) ::Really? So am I. --Some user (talk)
- And would look like this in the browser:
Hi, what's up? --Some user (talk)
- Also, when starting a new topic on a talk page, click on the "new section" tab at the top right hand corner of the page.
- If you have any more questions, feel free to drop me a note here, take a look at the welcome page, read the welcome message on your talk page, or visit the Help desk. Thanks, and enjoy editing! --SamX‧☎‧✎ 20:09, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Peaches Does Herself
Sam,
Just to clarify, in what ways was the content on the page unclear/confusing and as far as the biased opinion I work with the management company putting the page together and was told to follow the guidelines that were provided for me.
Thanks for your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by James2334333 (talk • contribs) 21:26, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia.
- The reason why I tagged it was because it did not seem to be written from a neutral point of view, and was a somewhat confusing read, as I had trouble determining whether it was an article about a person, a movie, or a show. If you could bring it up with your boss(es) and rewrite it from a more neutral point of view, that would be great. Otherwise, I may have to fundamentally rewrite the article, or simply nominate it for deletion. If you have any further questions, feel free to leave me a note on my talk page. --SamX‧☎‧✎ 22:37, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

- You don't "get" another barn star. Other editors will give one to you when they feel that you have worked hard or preformed an admirable feat on Wikipedia. Thanks! --SamX‧☎‧✎ 03:48, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

Greets Sam. Mind having a look at my comments over there? I see partial use for the page before its deletion. MM (Report findings) (Past espionage) 19:29, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the pointer. I've already responded there. Apparently the new notification system notified me before you posted on my talk page. Interesting, huh?--SamX‧☎‧✎ 19:32, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think it notified that I mentioned your user space on Fisheries' page. I've seen it happen to me before when I was dealing with a troll on user:JamesBWatson's page so I know that it does that. Have a good one. MM (Report findings) (Past espionage) 19:59, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
