Wow!

[edit]

Just thought I'd stop by to say "Wow". I haven't been so active in recent months, but when I come back from time to tine I see all your great work on historical football topics. Hey, I saw your comment on Draft:William J. Thorn (athletics coach). I wasn't actually notified by the user that it was rejected, but thanks for asking for clarification on the reasoning for rejection - the same user rejected another draft of mine Draft:Craig Angelos (the athletic director of Hawaii), and I was not able to get any more detail on that one either. I'm not going to ask you to review them - that can be a lengthy process - but could you maybe make a similar request there? If there's specific feedback, I can try and correct any issues, so it's disappointing when nothing specific is given. Toa Nidhiki05 (Work) (talk) 17:40, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) You don't have to use AfC, you know. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:35, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I actually do - I use this account for disclosed paid editing (hence the name, and my user page, and disclosures in edit summaries and on talk pages), and using AfC for articles is absolutely mandatory for that per WP:PAY. I try to follow all guidelines when doing this, which includes submitting new articles for peer review through AfC. Toa Nidhiki05 (Work) (talk) 18:56, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Toa Nidhiki05 (Work): As the user has not responded in 24 hours, and this issue has happened previously (no reply to a comment regarding the decline), I accepted Thorn myself, given that the article seemed to be of high quality and he seems notable. AFDs

[edit]

Hello, BeanieFan11,

Lately, it seems like I've seen you make valuable comments in AFD discussions but you don't cast a "vote". Is there a reason why? I hope it has nothing to do with keeping a high AFD agreement percentage but that doesn't seem like something you'd care about. As a frequent AFD closer, I'd appreciate it if you would take a stand on what you think should happen with articles because I know you do your homework and make a thoughtful decision. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 05:40, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Liz: Its mainly because of how disorganized the notability criteria for sports has become. I usually comment on ones which I feel have a very good chance of being notable. Due to the changes in NSPORT, though, one is not supposed to be allowed to be kept until it is 'demonstrated that SIGCOV exists', something that can be absurd in some situations. I try to only vote on the ones which have been demonstrated to have SIGCOV, or, failing that, a very strong argument otherwise for its keeping. For many of them (especially older, foreign topics), while they have a very high chance of being notable, I don't feel right voting 'keep' when there hasn't been sufficient coverage demonstrated and I can't think of a strong enough argument to keep. BeanieFan11 (talk) 14:32, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Historically, voting keep at too many borderline AfDs just gets you badgered and your creations targeted (if you have any). Less stressful to just comment sometimes. Beanie was brought to ANI a few years ago when he really didn't even do anything. The reporting user was interaction-banned in a separate discussion later for hounding Beanie. That's not the only person who has targeted Beanie either. No sanctions came out of the other case though. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 19:29, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if true, that's just tragic. No one should be harrassed for comments at an AFD discussion unless they are clearly AI-generated or they are just a series of "per nom" votes. Sorry you had to deal with that, BeanieFan11. Being called to ANI is no fun at all. But I appreciate your thoughtful response here to my query. I understand your position, I wish some other editors took AFDs as seriously as you do. Liz Read! Talk! 04:48, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, you beat me to making Menno's article! I added the the stuff I'd been working on over in my sandbox though, team work 💪 -- NotCharizard 🗨 17:44, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notcharizard, and that’s why it’s better to create content in draft space. Had you done so, it would have been shown to Beanie that someone is already working on the article. It doesn’t show if the content sits in a sandbox somewhere. Schwede66 18:49, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66 I always make things in my sandbox first while I’m just find resources, so I don’t make a draft for a topic who turns out not to be notable enough :) Otherwise I’d have quite a few abandoned drafts! Once I’m sure the topic’s notable, I create a draft, which in this case is when I found out an article has just been made!
I feel like you’re trying to lecture me, but I stand by this method and it’s not a big deal at all that this happened, I found it pretty funny! -- NotCharizard 🗨 04:04, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’m not lecturing you. All I did is tell you of a way of preventing such double ups. You can work the way that suits you best. Having articles in draft space that you don’t get over the notability threshold is not a problem either; you can just ask for them to be deleted. Schwede66 05:09, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you're going to get involved…

[edit]

…you ought to familiarize yourself with the situation, where the article creator was recently WP:CBANNED for countless hours of timesinks via COI/UPE going back more than a decade creating a walled garden of over 400 articles cited mostly to poor-quality sources. Some of us are trying to clean up the encyclopedia and it's a massive effort. Please refer to:

Left guide (talk) 22:10, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't have the time to read through all that. What specifically is wrong with Charles O. Goold and Inchling (the two I restored) – they looked relatively well-developed with sources that seemed decent? (Also, what COI could he have with a century old children's play?) BeanieFan11 (talk) 22:18, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Some of the issues with Greg's articles is they sometimes use unreliable sources, fail verification and/or the claims are exaggerated so you have do a thorough review. The COI is his him writing about his family, related people and topics. I notice in the article about Goold, a book published by Arcadia Publishing is used, which often is not a reliable source and heavy reliance on the hyper-local newspaper the Carmel Pine Cone. S0091 (talk) 14:20, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you S0091. We have someone who appears to be new to this walled garden innocuously "defending" a couple of Greg's articles without having a full awareness of the situation. @Netherzone: as the one who added the notability tag to Inchling along with years of experience dealing with these sources and this topic area, would you mind briefly explaining the problems with the sources and the ways they are being used? You tend to articulate source analysis better than I can. Left guide (talk) 15:57, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My concern is: are the issues really that serious that they need to be mass removed by the dozens? Have Arcadia and the Pine Cone been determined to be unreliable? We've got very few editors who write decent articles on historical topics, so we better get it right if we decide that its necessary to mass throw them out. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:00, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When there's 400 articles worth of these similar sets of sources, and most of us would rather spend time doing other things of a more personal preference on Wikipedia and in real life, it's extraordinarily difficult to do anything other than mass removal. Ironically, Pine Cone and Arcadia are probably the two sources that have been discussed the most ad nauseum on endless rounds of talk page discussions, with Greg being the only one who believed they were reliable for establishing notability, in his own extremely persistent way. Left guide (talk) 16:19, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Arcadia Publishing has been discussed a few times at RSN and needs to be used with extreme caution because often the authors are not recognized experts and often they have a vested interest in promoting the subject. Some editors have noted factual errors. I came across one that was written by a local real estate agent. I am not sure the issue with Pine Cone is reliability as much as its use to establish notability given it is hyper local publication. These sources have been discussed with Greg and at various AfDs several times and consensus I believe has consistently been neither can be used to establish notability. S0091 (talk) 16:27, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @BeanieFan11, yes, @Left guide is correct. The articles are not "decent" if sources are misrepresented enmass and unreliable sources are used in the majority of them. If you do decide to take the time to investigate in depth, read through the talk page archives of the editor. The problems with COI go all the way back to 2007 and later with UPE editing, and the sourcing issues (part of the block) run the course.
Personally, I see no issue whatsoever with the redirect, and I doubt the Inchling article would survive an AfD. Re: the biography, many of the bios were written about local people who were simply doing their job and are not notable. Bits and pieces of non-sigcov are often woven together to form a synthesis to make the person sound notable (this often would include misrepresenting sources and simply making up original research.
Back to Inchling...I don't have time at the moment to do an in-depth source analysis table for 21 (refbombing is also often a problem with these articles) however they seem to be hyper-local coverage in a weekly tabloid (Carmel Pine Cone), press releases in other local publications and books by marginal presses like Acadia or Valley Press, or user-submitted content on TFAO. I think redirecting or merging to the playwrights article is the best solution. Netherzone (talk) 16:33, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I still question whether e.g. the Pine Cone is unusable solely for being local, but as there do seem to be some issues I'll take a step back and let others deal with the articles. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:48, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
BeanieFan, thanks for offering to step back from this complicated and time consuming clean up situation. FYI, I just had a quick look at the Goold biography and want to share my thoughts. It is part of the Carmel walled garden that was identified by multiple editors and administrators. It's a fluffed and puffed creation of a person who was simply living his life and doing his job. City trustees and board members do not have inherent notability as politicians, nor do bankers.
Here are the problems with the sourcing. There is one decent source, the bio in the 1925 Watkins book. The "NPS" source is not about him, it is a mention of a building associated with him, people don't inherit notability from buildings, and it is questionable if the building itself is notable, it's not on the NRHP. Additionally, the source is misrepresented as the National Park System, but it is really from the California Parks and Recreation Department. The Hale and Dramov sources are from questionable presses, and the rest of the sources are hyper-local weekly tabloid and/or press releases.
Also I want you to know that I deeply respect the work you do on DYK and in saving articles that are notable, even if the subject may seem obscure. I like doing that too, and have saved quite a few such as Scovern Hot Springs, Bernadette Vigil, Piñon, Colorado, Bucket of Blood Street and others. My best wishes to you, and see you around! Netherzone (talk) 17:04, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I hate to beat a dead horse over here, but just for the record, that 1925 Watkins book is published by S. J. Clarke which according to its Wikipedia article is a self-publishing firm and thus WP:SPS, (but even if I'm somehow mistaken, it wouldn't be enough on its own to establish notability especially since it also appears to be an indiscriminate source) and that was one of the factors involved in my initial decision to redirect. Thanks as always to Netherzone for the skillful mediation, and to BeanieFan11 for being willing to listen and communicate with the community. Left guide (talk) 20:14, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not a dead horse at all, Left guide, since I am pretty sure it has been used in other articles. BeanieFan, sorry to take up your talk page with this. If you prefer, this discussion can be move to another talk page. Netherzone (talk) 21:26, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, so there's an editor going around nominating a series of college football QBs for AfD, and it's not clear whether they are doing WP:BEFORE searches or even assessing the sources already in the article. Revisiting the improvement of sports stubs

[edit]

Hello! Doing new page patrol for the massive amount of sports biographies has reminded me about the effort to get some of them fleshed out with existent but hard-to-find significant coverage. It's not really my area of expertise, but you've been doing good work toward making that happen. Are we still considering a broader effort to get these cleaned up through an event or drive, or something similar? I'd really like for Category:Sports biographies lacking sources containing significant coverage to be cleared, and obviously it would be better to do that through high quality articles over deletion if it's feasible. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 21:02, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Thebiguglyalien: I still hope eventually to do it, although I haven't really made progress in the past months to be honest. I still have the format I made here, though I'd likely make some changes and re-organizing (I think I made scoring too complicated). The main issue was that I'm not sure exactly how to go about starting up a new competition, especially in getting decent participation, etc... I don't have much time right now, but I can think about ways to do it – maybe we could shoot for December or January as a time to hold it? BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:44, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DCWC closing update

[edit]

The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points, Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place Thebiguglyalien (submissions) comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions; Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place Tuvalu BeanieFan11 (submissions) flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months, Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place Generalissima (submissions) finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home the Gold Belt Buckle. Congratulations to our winners!

In addition to his spot in the top three, Tuvalu BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)! India Magentic Manifestations (submissions), after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews, Simongraham (submissions) wins for most article reviews.

The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Ixtal (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familar with the community's expectations of adminstrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a one week call for candidates phase, a one week pause to set up SecurePoll, a three-day period of public discussion, followed by 7 days of no public discussion and a private vote using SecurePoll.
  • The outcomes of this process are identical to making requests for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA or administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

To avoid sending too many messages, this will be the last mass message sent about administrator elections. If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

How many GANs do you have prepped?

[edit]

Not like I'm going to be competing for the top spot in the WikiCup, but I was curious how many articles you have prepped and ready to nominate. Is there a reason you haven't nominated a bunch earlier in this round? I see, I believe, 8 from December of last year that you had received feedback on but had withdrawn due to being busy and having a bit of burnout. Deprodding

[edit]

I'm aware there's no requirement to provide a genuine rationale for deprodding, but it's good practice and this seems rather poor. AusLondonder (talk) 16:33, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • When someone rapidly PRODs well over 100 Olympian articles within minutes and admits that they did not do any BEFORE search whatsoever – and the only explanation given for PRODing is something listed as a argument to avoid in deletion discussions, dePRODing on that basis is certainly valid. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:37, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The nom actually stated the article fails WP:NSPORT, which is true. AusLondonder (talk) 16:42, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The other point still stands: When someone rapidly PRODs well over 100 Olympian articles within minutes and admits that they did not do any BEFORE search whatsoever ... dePRODing on that basis is certainly valid. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:44, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections: Discussion phase

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

The discussion phase of the October 2024 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • October 22–24 - Discussion phase
  • October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • November 1–? - Scrutineering phase

During October 22–24, we will be in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages will open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Discussion phase.

On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

  • Pang Gwang-chol: What's his Korean name? I think it's roughly like 팡광촐.
  • Tak Yong-bin: How do you know he fails GNG? Did you look at even a single North Korean news source from the time? I usually assume Simione001 just looked at the article by the base it doesn't have any significant coverage.

DYK for Mathias Nkwenti

[edit]

On 25 October 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mathias Nkwenti, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the parents of Mathias Nkwenti, the second Cameroonian ever to play in the NFL, initially opposed his football career? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mathias Nkwenti. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Mathias Nkwenti), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Administrator Elections: Voting phase

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Voting phase

The voting phase of the October 2024 administrator elections has started and continues until 23:59 31st October 2024 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • November 1–? - Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies for a vote will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot.

Hi BeanieFan11, thanks for participating in the WikiCup. You recently submitted Template:Did you know nominations/Mathias Nkwenti for DYK points, but unfortunately it is not eligible for DYK points because it was nominated to DYK as a newly promoted GA. I know this can be disappointing, but Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring#Did you know? states that only newly created or expanded DYKs are eligible for DYK points. The rules specifically exclude DYK submissions from receiving points if their appearance on DYK is solely because the article was a newly promoted GA. Bulky user page header

[edit]

I do love how full your userpage header is, with all those top icons, but I think it, in a way, takes away from your successes because I don't think anybody is actually trying to count the GA and DYK icons on your page because of how many there are. Have you considered something similar to what Gonzo has (see User talk:Gonzo fan2007)? Personally I have no idea how many GAs and DYKs you have because of this, and I think it could actually help to showcase this a bit better. This was because no one was participating in these AFDs about dart players and they all filled up the daily log and had to be relisted. I thought it would be easier to PROD these articles and if anyone wanted to work on them, they could be easily restored through REFUND. So, they were following my advice to do so. Liz Read! Talk! 23:08, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think both the mass PROD route and the mass AFD route is inappropriate. The user seems to have done zero BEFORE search (they refused over three times to answer the basic question of 'have you done a BEFORE?') and several of them proved to be clearly notable when actual effort was put in (e.g. Bill Lennard; and while Jack McKenna hasn't been closed yet there's multiple stories calling him Ireland's greatest ever darts player, a household name, etc.). IMO, even if articles aren't in the best shape, when a good chunk are likely notable mass removal without any effort to verify notability is not a good idea. WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

[edit]

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, Delaware BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Canada Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and Christmas Island AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!

Mass dart player PROD reversal

[edit]

Hello, BeanieFan11.

I noticed you recently removed PROD templates from a bunch of dart player’s pages citing that a proper BEFORE was not done according to your research.

As you requested, ItsKesha brought those articles to AfD, where editors like me are trying to figure out if they are notable.

Currently, from the research of us !voters on AfD, it seems as if all or most of them are only mentioned in automated databases, with no human having written about them in detail meeting SIGCOV besides the creation of the article.

However, I was wondering why you believed ItsKesha’s BEFORE was insufficient - did you find any sources that they missed to indicate this? (not that you needed to provide a valid rationale from dePRODing, it’s totally optional).

You are also welcomed to contribute on AfD.

Thank you for your time! 2001:8003:4A10:601:4DE5:4E09:A5D1:B265 (talk) 10:12, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It’s just that over on AfD we’re trying to figure out if any sources were missed. Thanks again for your time! :) 2001:8003:4A10:601:4DE5:4E09:A5D1:B265 (talk) 10:17, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I based the removals on these discussions; I find it highly likely that no BEFORE was performed, given that well over 100 articles were nominated en masse in a few minutes (how would anyone be able to do a proper BEFORE in that timeframe, especially for historical ones?) and ItsKesha outright refused on numerous occasions to answer the basic question of 'have you done a BEFORE'. I only gave a proper look to a few but several of them turned out to be clearly notable (e.g. Bill Lennard, as well as Jack McKenna who has multiple newspaper articles calling him the greatest Irish darts player in history). There's the possibility that many may not be notable, and that's why I don't object to AFDs (although it'd be nice if they were of a reasonable quantity – i.e. not all at once) – but surely a good number of notable ones were going to be lost in the process given how little effort was put in which is not appropriate in my opinion. There appears to be a decent amount of coverage on Newspapers.com. I could provide some clippings if you want to recreate it, or I could possibly recreate it at some point if you want (apparently he was cut from his college team, then played juco for two years, then was a third-string at Marshall for two years and only completed two passes ([5]) – interesting that he was able to sign with the Seahawks after such little experience.). PRODs

[edit]

Hello, BeanieFan11,

I appreciate all that you do on Wikipedia, your contributions are invaluable. However, it would make things smoother if you didn't wait until the last minute to de-PROD articles. The earlier you can do this, the better. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 23:55, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • I can try, but its a little difficult to keep up with all the PRODs and give them the proper attention when they're being done in large chunks (e.g. there's 22 active Olympian PRODs and several more added each day; it can take a decent bit of time to do proper searches for each, especially for ones in different languages, etc.). Kevin Parks was good enough to get trading cards but doesn't have an article. I don't think he was even invited to an NFL rookie minicamp tryout, kind of odd (it might be because of his height, he has a PFR page somehow that says he is 5'6). Articles created over drafts.

[edit]

Can you get Yankees10 to stop creating articles when I already have drafts for them like in the cases of Robert Spears-Jennings, Maealiuaki Smith, Gunnar Helm, and Chris Paul Jr. just to name a few, as I have already asked him to do. Also when I did this he was very hypo critic about it and got the page deleted. Butters (talk) 23:35, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • There isn't really a way to 'prevent' someone from creating an article over a draft. If you're concerned about the possibility of someone doing it – and you're completely certain of the player's notability – one thing you could do is start a stub with some references to demonstrate notability (e.g. infobox, a few sentences and a handful of pieces of significant coverage on the player, with the intention of coming back and expanding it a bit later). BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:47, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Butters.From.SouthPark: Dude then stop overwhelming yourself by starting all these drafts if you can't keep up with them. Simple as that. I never create drafts. If I find a player is notable I create them on spot, there is absolutely no reason for them to be started as drafts. You also literally start these drafts with just one sentence so I have no idea what you are complaining about. I just moved Andrew Armstrong (American football) from the draft space today because there is extensive info there. Another thing is you also start them on players coming off big games/NFL Draft buzz so what exactly do you expect when the article actually gets created?-- Yankees10 00:29, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You also act as though I am doing this on purpose or with malicious intent which I don't appreciate. And one last thing: nobody is preventing you from enhancing these articles too but judging from your edit history you don't seem to have any interest in doing so and have one clear agenda on this site.-- Yankees10 00:41, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And what is that. Also I'm not trying to be malicious but I can see where you are coming from so I apoligize. Butters (talk) 00:53, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Henri Claireaux

[edit]

On 25 November 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Henri Claireaux, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1959, Henri Claireaux claimed that a reduction to a subsidy to Saint Pierre and Miquelon had devolved the territory into "a state bordering on poverty"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Henri Claireaux. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Henri Claireaux), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

It was not proper to create an article that had a pre-existing draft. Consider this a warning. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 23:17, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Other drafts I created do not matter. Another editor had worked on the draft as well. I will state this only once: Do not create an article knowing full well that there is a draft. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 02:28, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A penny for your thoughts. Which of these do you prefer:

Or something else? Cbl62 (talk) 07:17, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I think the first is the more extraordinary fact, but probably not as understandable to those unfamiliar with the game. Cbl62 (talk) 18:08, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
