Revision of the page: Delete Skype History (software)

Seanwud (talk) 18:15, 11 November 2014 (UTC) Hi Ahecht, today you marked my first wiki page Delete_Skype_History_(software) for deletion. As far as I understand the reason is that it contained references to the program web-site. I've removed the reference in the article body. Is it Ok now or I should review something in addiotion?

@Seanwud:That wasn't the reason it was nominated. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Delete Skype History (software) for more information. Your article didn't establish the notability of the software, which must be done by providing references to significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article. —Ahecht (TALK
PAGE
) 18:40, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
@Ahecht:Thanks for pointing me to the real reason. I've created the article as the programs have a big number of thankful users who want to recommend the applications to others. I've reviewed similar articles at Wikipedia and don't fully understand why you consider our software is less notable. The programs offer unique features (that no other software does) and, in deed and not in name, sometimes save our customers in very delicate situations. Probably you haven't found many relaible external references as the program name contains normal English words and there are many discussions on Internet using these words. Independent software reviews have been published on industry-influencing web-sites, e.g., [1] and we expect several others soon. Therefore I want to ask you to leave the article for a couple of weeks and then reevaluate the software significance. - Seanwud (talk) 19:29, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
@Seanwud: Softpedia is not an independent source, it's user-generated content, as they simply publish whatever the submitter of the software writes (I know, I have my own software published there). Your article needs to show what other people are saying about your software, not what the software publisher says about it. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE
) 20:22, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
@Ahecht:In general, you are right about submitter's content at softpedia. But I would never point you to such article if I said the independent editor (Mihaela Citea) wrote the review. And be sure we didn't request the overview. Examples of our descriptions are [2] and [3]. If you like, I will collect a list of independent overviews for your convenience. And if the programs help users to resolve their particular needs, i.e., protect their privacy, why don't give the uses a chance to read the article (written in a neutral language without any promotion voice) and supplement it with their opinions? quires about the declining of article of interference of biological sociological and psychological actiity

Hello, Sir I want to ask some questions from you about the declining of article that I can also give the references to my article from the books of well known phillosophers of ancient times like Cant Bergsant and another but I did not know their publishing history and did not know how to cite thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hamid bin qasim (talkcontribs) 12:29, 15 November 2014‎

@Hamid bin qasim: All statements in your article should cite a source. You can get instructions on how to cite sources at WP:REFBEGIN. If you need publishing information on a book, you can usually find it at Google Books or Amazon. However, you must make sure that the books are specifically talking about "interference of biological psychological and sociological activities in fighting activity" and that you aren't writing a synthesis of published sources. In addition, you need to edit your submission to correct the grammar, capitalization, etc, and it needs to be broken into paragraphs and have a proper introduction to provide context for those not familiar with the subject. --Ahecht (TALK

Thank you very much for all your help. Really appreciate it. I have made the changes and re-submitted the draft. Just wanted to clarify if it is okay to link to other articles in Wikipedia via Wikilinks feature. If so could you please explain how to use this feature - your explanation makes it very easy!  :) Thank you once again! — Preceding unsigned comment added by AmarnathManju (talkcontribs) 18:19, 17 November 2014‎

@AmarnathManju: To make a wikilink, use the name of the article in your text and surround it with double brackets. For example, if you wanted to link to the article on Calcutta, you would type [[Calcutta]]. If the link you have created shows up in red, it means that the name in brackets doesn't exactly match an existing article title (and capitalization matters). --Ahecht (TALK

Help with Robert A Needham page

Hi Ahecht! I appreciate your input on the page I'm creating for Robert A. Needham. I saw you noticed a discrepancy about not using the proper citation for content derived from the book Collaborative Commonwealth. I was wondering if you could give me some input on what was the potential copyright infringement in the draft for the page and if it's a direct quote or should be paraphrased. Also, I grabbed content from the About the Author section and was wondering if I have to cite that or since it's from Robert's bio not cite it. Thank you so much for your time!

Alexprplus (talk) 18:32, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

@Alexprplus: The issue wasn't improper citation, the issue was that you either copied or closely paraphrased from a copyrighted source, which is a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy. All text in your article must be written in your own words (not just copied or closely paraphrased) AND should include a citation for where the information came from. Even if you cite your source, you still must use your own words. See WP:COPYVIO and WP:PARAPHRASE for more info. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE
) 18:37, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for responding so quickly! So I'm not supposed to use quotes at all? I'm a little confused because I see quotes on other Wikipedia pages. Are you only allowed to use direct quotes from what people say then? Like in interviews? Thanks! Also, were using what Robert wrote on his Wikipedia page and I figured that would be okay to cite from the author his own content for his Wikipedia page. So it's still copyright infringement if we use content from the person we're creating a Wikipedia page for?

Alexprplus (talk) 18:46, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

@Alexprplus: Direct quotes can be used in certain limited situations, such as quoting a few words from a review of a book, but they must be indicated as a direct quote and in quotation marks. However, Wikipedia is not a newspaper, and direct quotes from primary sources have very limited use. See WP:QUOTE and MOS:QUOTE. --Ahecht (TALK

Hello Ahecht. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

draft:Avatar (Avatar album)

Dear Ahecht,

I noticed that my article was refused, in order to mention more reliable sources. But, as a proud fan of Avatar (Swedish band) since 2008, I know all the information I detailed was exact, true, genuine. I was only unable to find some good sources to prove you and the rest of the viewers that these infos weren't false. The band wasn't really known when this album came out, and good sources would be found in the search engines' suggestions of Sweden regions (where the band is coming from). If you could give me a little help about, I would sincerely appreciate it. Regards,

Gabriel Patrick Cabana (talk) 00:16, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

@Gabriel Patrick Cabana: Unfortunately, the standard on wikipedia is that information be verifiable, not that it be true. Because Wikipedia can be edited by anybody, and anyone can add or change information anonymously, people that use Wikipedia need to be able to see where the information came from to verify that it is correct. However, assuming that you can understand the Swedish sources and that no English-language sources can be found, you can cite Swedish sources. See Wikipedia:Verifiability#Non-English_sources for more info. --Ahecht (TALK

The Orchard School

Good Morning! First of all, thanks so much for your help!! I really appreciate it. I thought my least submission yesterday met all of the guidelines, but I'm clearly doing something wrong. Below is what I wrote:

'The Orchard School is a private, independent school in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States of America. It was founded in 1922.

It is located at 615 W. 64th Street, near Holliday Park. It has Preschool through Grade 8 and enrolls 600 students a year.

Is that okay? Thank you!

Good Morning! First of all, thank you for your help!! I really appreciate it. I thought my last submission would be okay, but it was rejected. Can you help me, please? I wrote something like the following:

The Orchard School is a private, independent school in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was founded in 1922. It is a Preschool through Grade 8 school that enrolls 600 students a year.

For more on The Orchard School, you can read the book, The Path Well Chosen. You can also go to www.orchard.org

Thanks so much! Grodecap (talk) 14:46, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

@Grodecap: That's fine from a copyright standpoint, but from a content standpoint I don't see any evidence of what Wikipedia calls notability. All Wikipedia articles must be about subjects that are notable, and for a K-8 school this must be demonstrated by meeting the standards of WP:ORG or WP:GNG with citations to significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE
) 15:11, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response! I added a link to a book that was written about the school. I also added a link to the school's website. Is it okay now? Should I take off the website and just leave the link to the book? Thanks again for your help. Grodecap (talk) 15:22, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

@Grodecap: Please see WP:REFBEGIN for the proper way to cite websites and books. It's fine to include the official website as a reference to verify information, but it doesn't indicate notability. "The Path Well Chosen", while also a good source to verify information, was published by the "Orchard School Foundation" and is therefore not independent of the subject and doesn't indicate notability. In order to show notability, you have to cite what other people are saying about the school, not what the school says about itself. --Ahecht (TALK

Hi - Im a new contributor and Im having problems understanding exactly how to cite a online newspaper article. Ive inserted the reference for the above article but still get an error message. I appreciate any help/fix you might offer, you have my permission to correct any errors. Thanks. Palisades1 16:36, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

@Palisades1: I cleaned up the code of the draft a bit. You just need to put <ref> before your reference and </ref> after it, not <ref><ref> and </ref></ref>. You also should put the reference in the part of the article's text where you want the footnote to appear, not at the top of the article. Everything between the <ref> and </ref> tags will show up automatically in the "References" section and a link to the reference will automatically appear in the text. However, I removed the reference you added entirely because the linked article had nothing to do with Mcnamee. --Ahecht (TALK

Eoin McNamee reference

Thanks for helping out on my first posting. I understand the reference process and will use that format in the future. I did open the link for the Irish Echo newspaper article and McNamee's time in Chicago and his activities are mentioned in the 7th paragraph. Palisades1 20:20, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

@Palisades1: I was referring to the reference about Rupert Murdoch. The Irish Echo reference is fine and I left it in the article, but I removed the reference to http://media.guardian.co.uk/site/story/0,14173,1601858,00.html which seemed unrelated. --Ahecht (TALK

The Orchard School

The Orchard School is a private, independent, progressive school in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States of America. It was founded in 1922. It is a Preschool through Grade 8 school that enrolls 600 students a year.

The Orchard School is accredited by ISACS, or the Independent Schools of the Central States.Grodecap (talk) 21:04, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Please read through WP:ORG and WP:GNG that I pointed you to before. A listing from an accreditation agency is considered routine coverage and is not considered to be an indication of notability. I very much doubt that this school is notable enough for its own Wikipedia page (most schools with grades below High School are not notable), although it might be worth a mention in the Washington Township, Marion County, Indiana article per WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES. --Ahecht (TALK

To create a new article or amend an old one

My article on the English Spelling System was rejected on the grounds that there is already something about it in English Orthography, and that i should try to edit that one, but i find that piece so high-brow and academic that i can't even begin to think where to start. The title itself says it all. How many people know or use the word orthography? In the past i have tried putting a link to one of my blogs which explains the English spelling system in a way that ordinary people can unterstand, e.g. http://improvingenglishspelling.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/rules-and-exceptions-of-english-spelling.html, but it invariably got deleted.

This was probably because i have had a few books on spelling published, but since then i have put all my research findings on my blogs http://englishspellingproblems.blogspot.co.uk and http://improvingenglishspelling.blogspot.co.uk so that people can use them without having to pay a penny. I am horrified by the misinformation about English spelling on the internet which keeps stoking the never-ending reading wars, so I have spent the past 15 years trying to anlyse and describe English spelling as factually accurately as possible.

I did wonder if the Simple English Encyclopedia would be a better place for my article. But does anyone actually look at that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mashabell (talkcontribs) 10:34, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

@Mashabell: If you type English spelling into Wikipedia you are automatically redirected to English Orthography, so finding the information isn't an issue. I guess the real problem is that if you're writing a wikipedia article based on books that you've written then it is considered original research, which is discouraged here. A good place to put it might be Wikibooks. Perhaps it could go somewhere in the English as an Additional Language wikibook (either on English as an Additional Language/General rules of spelling and capitalization or as a new page). I don't think people would object to a link from English Orthography to the Wikibook. --Ahecht (TALK

Gout Diets

Hi Ahecht,

Thanks for reading the "Gout Diet". I'd like to know the specific reason for declining my article "Gout Diet". Obviously, I cannot interpret the policies of Wiki - I am really new here. Thanks in advance! Ghm141201 Ghm141201 (talk) 09:49, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

@Ghm141201: The basic issue is that your article appears to be written as a student paper or journal article, not a Wikipedia entry. Wikipedia doesn't allow editors to use Wikipedia to publish original research or to write a synthesis of published sources (as described at WP:SYNTH). Your article specifically has a "Methods and Resources" section, which strongly implies that it is original research, and a "Results and Conclusions" section, which implies synthesis. You also spend a lot of time describing what gout is and what a diet is (and the later being described with the general dictionary definition, not the aspects that relate to gout), which isn't needed in a Wikipedia article because those terms can be easily linked to if readers want more information. Unlike student papers, a Wikipedia article does assume that the reader does have some knowledge of the subject at hand and that if they don't, that they can click on the term to read about it. I know that in student papers it's typical to include this, but this shouldn't be in an encyclopedia article. --Ahecht (TALK

'The content of this submission includes material that does not meet Wikipedia's minimum standard for inline citations. Please cite your sources using footnotes. For instructions on how to do this, please see Referencing for beginners. Thank you.'

I have checked the online pointers and I apologise but I must be missing something as I can't see how/why/what I am supposed to do to validate this article.

Any help appreciated ... and I will get better - i promise!

Thanks Rebecca — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bexpinknfluffy (talkcontribs) 21:13, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

@Bexpinknfluffy: No problem, we were all beginners at one point. Articles that are biographies of living people require all statements to be supported by citations to reliable sources, and these citations must be linked to from the text of the article. For example, your article states that "John Roberts was born in 1937 in South Wales, he grew up in the valleys surrounding the mining town of Dowlais." but doesn't provide a reliable source for that information. I don't have access to the journal articles you cited, but it doesn't seem like they would contain the sort of biographical information you included in your article. To add that information you would use the <ref></ref> tags directly after the relevant statement. For example, if you got that information from Roberts's autobiography (I'm just making this up, I don't know if one exists), you would write in the body of your artile:
John Roberts was born in 1937 in South Wales, he grew up in the valleys surrounding the mining town of Dowlais.<ref>{{cite book|last=Roberts|first=John|Title=Autobiography|Publisher=Some Publisher|date=2002}}</ref>
And everything in between the <ref></ref> tags would be automatically replaced with a numbered superscript in the body of your article and automatically show up in the references section at the bottom. --Ahecht (TALK

@Strnbrg59: Conversations can happen on either person's talk page (or both). I would like to be more clear, I meant the header above the title "Speed of light measurement from a moving frame" i.e. purple box starting with text "Submission declined on 17 October 2014 by Ahecht" and the comment. Koorosh Shahdaei 2 (talk) 16:51, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

23:35:06, 21 December 2014 review of submission by Globetrotter93

Hello, I do not understand why this piece was declined. Please explain. What I posted was written in collaboratio with the daughter of Dr. Parikh. He is one of the oldest (at age 90) Gandhians in India, dedicated to rural development projects and political activism. He has not written any articles and has focused more on rural reconstruction work. Please suggest how such a highly respected (though not widely written about) person can be included in WikiPedia. Please give me suggestions on what changes I should make to my draft.

Thanks

@Globetrotter93: Wikipedia is not a place to publish [[WP:OR|original research}}, and all information posted on Wikipedia, especially information about living people, must be what we call verifiable. That means that all your statements must be backed up with citations to reliable sources. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Lakes Region (New Hampshire), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Eastern Standard Time. International School of Business (Vietnam)

Hi Ahecht,

Thank you for reading the article on the International School of Business, Vietnam. I'm a little confused by the reasoning for rejecting the article; in your comments you wrote that "departments" of a university usually don't warrant their own Wikipedia article, and suggested folding the ISB article into that for the University of Economics, HCMC.

But ISB is not a department within UEH. Rather it's a separate university that simply has a partnership with UEH.

I realize there might have been some language in the original ISB article that could be misleading on this point, so I've removed those sentences.

Again, the International School of Business at UEH, HCMC is a unique university, and is not simply a department of the University of Economics.

Thank you for your time, input and consideration.

Best, ThaynuocngoaiUEH — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThaynuocngoaiUEH (talkcontribs) 08:22, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

@ThaynuocngoaiUEH: Thanks for the followup. If HCMC is not part of the university that should be better specified. You still need to show notability through citations to significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article and then you should resubmit. --Ahecht (TALK

EurEau - citations

Hi,

Thanks for reviewing the article on EurEau. This is my first Wikipedia article, so thanks for your patience.

You asked for more citations and references to support my article. I used a short paper as the basis for the article, written by one of the organistaions founders. It's an internal document and is designed to be an information document for the secretariat's archives. How do I reference it if it is not available to the general public?

Thanks,

Caroline1978again (talk) 15:59, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

@Caroline1978again: The point of references is to make sure that information on Wikipedia is verifiable (sources don't have to be available online, but they do have to be publicly accessible). If a reader cannot verify the information it should not included in a Wikipedia article. Is the author of this paper willing to publish it on the organization's website or on a site like Wikisource? --Ahecht (TALK

Afc Draft: Lao Veterans of America Institute Re-Submission with Addition Citations

Afc Resubmission for Draft: Lao Veterans of America Institute

I was able to add additional references/citations regarding the national and international noteability of the subject organization, including references from the Hmong Times, McClatchy News Organization (which owns the Fresno and Sacramento Bee newspapers and many others), the US Congressional Record, Los Angeles Times, etc. Also new references/citations to organization from National Public Radio (NPR) and its President, Colonel Wangyee Vang.

These are national and international news media sources for the most part.

I do not have access to JSTOR but their are other references in the Los Angeles Times as well as Agence France Press (AFP) to the Lao Veterans of America Institute and its President Colonel Wangyee Vang of Fresno, California. So the organization is most noteable with significant U.S. and international news media attention.

I will try to continue to add more additional references from other newspapers and news media sources regarding the Lao Veterans of America Institute.

Hope that it can be re-reviewed.Publico2020 (talk) 00:26, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Article on V.R. Prabodhachandran Nayar- Deletion Regarding

Dear Sir/Madam, My article on Prof. Dr. V.R. Prabodhachandran Nayar is deleted and the reason for deletion is that it is not neutral. This I am not able to follow. I am not very clear about this term. Please help me to make it neutral, where I went wrong and how to make it acceptable for Wikipedia.Rpnpbr (talk) 15:44, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

@Rpnpbr: Your article was not deleted, it was moved to Draft:V.R. Prabodhachandran Nayar. However, if you submit the article it would be declined because an article already exists for this person at V. R. Prabodhachandran Nair. If you have some connection to that person, it is highly recommended that you NOT edit that article, as it is very difficult to maintain a neutral point of view when you have a conflict of interest. --Ahecht (TALK

) 14:24, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Dear Sir/Madam, I want to prepare a neutral article on Dr.V.R. Prabodhachandran Nayar. The existing Wikipedia article, as you know and it is displayed with the article is an orphan. It is not portraying the contributions and life profile of the person. I am not his relative, student. I am a scientist working in Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Trivandrum, India. My only humble target is to put in place of the existing article, a focused article with references to his work available on the net. So a new article with a paragraph about mentioning his spectrum of activities, Institutions, Publications and awards. These also will be substantiated with all possible links and references included in the article. So shall I move this draft to article.Rpnpbr (talk) 14:22, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

@Rpnpbr: Please add to the existing article at V. R. Prabodhachandran Nair instead of creating a new one, but make sure that you maintain a neutral point of view. If you are unsure, please propose your changes at Talk:V. R. Prabodhachandran Nair first. --Ahecht (TALK

Dear Sir/Madam, I shall try to contribute to the existing article as you suggested. I shall try to remain neutral and always welcome your suggestions and guidance. Rpnpbr (talk) 14:43, 15 January 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 111.92.18.151 (talk) 14:38, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

15th January 2015 Change of content for article Biram Dah Abeid

Hi, I have realized that you have changed the content of article Biram Dah Abeid (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Biram_Dah_Abeid&action=history) yesterday. This article was a stub when I first saw it and I expanded it to include more references and details. But you have reverted the article back to original text. Kindly help me understand what was wrong with the expansion and details added.VA1979 (talk) 09:38, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

@VA1979: I didn't revert the article, that was RHaworth. He removed the content because it was copied from http://www.middleeasteye.net/in-depth/features/mauritania-thorn-side-president-aziz-digs-deeper-1896188481, which is a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy. --Ahecht (TALK

Hi Ahecht,

Hope you're well!

I included verifiable references into the Kevin Jarman (ice hockey player) article you declined on the 13th. I apologize for the weak (or should I say nonexistent) references I included in my first submission. I also included the conditions that this subject meets to qualify as notable ice hockey player. I've submitted the article again with these changes!

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope the changes I've made are sufficient.

Please message me at anytime if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

reverting my edits

Although the image may have been wrong, why did you revert my other edits also? Especially the one to the punctuation in the first paragraph? You went ahead and did the same thing as my edit (corrected the period to the first reference) in your cleanup anyway. Why did you revert all of my edits, even the good one? EChastain (talk) 18:30, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Specifically, I'm referring to my first edit to Void (composites). Thanks for any explanation. EChastain (talk) 18:33, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
@@EChastain: Your other edits still kept the punctuation after the reference, which goes against WP:REFPUNC. I was planning on using a regex to clean up all the punctuation after references anyway, so it was easier to revert all three of your changes with Twinkle than to selectively undo the one change and then do the other fixes. --Ahecht (TALK

See [4] which you reverted and which fixed WP:REFPUNC. Your revert returned the error. You then "fixed" it again in your "cleanup". EChastain (talk) 18:47, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

@Fresnowalldog: Coverage exclusively in the local media typically isn't enough to show notability. Notable things usually have significant impact over a wide region, domain, or widespread societal group. Something reported only by the media within the immediate region may not necessarily be notable. Coverage nationally or internationally may make notability more likely, and things that have a demonstrable long-term impact on a significant region of the world or a significant widespread societal group are presumed to be notable enough for an article. --Ahecht (TALK

Kevin Jarman

Hi Ahecht,

Hope you're well. Kevin Jarman did don a Columbus Blue Jackets jersey and play. Please, allow me time to find a sufficient reference.

Thanks so much!

Sorry Ahecht, should have included this in my original message, Kevin played games for Columbus while attending their main camp in September 2007. I'll work on getting proper references.

Thanks again Ahecht! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.15.52.96 (talk) 23:34, 31 January 2015‎ (UTC)

@74.15.52.96: Just donning the jersey isn't enough, unfortunately, for WP:NHOCKEY. He never played in an official NHL-sanctioned game, just in their training camp. Even his profile at NHL.com (http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8470696) doesn't show a single NHL game played. --Ahecht (TALK

Hi Ahecht,

I did, I watched him with my own two eyes, emergency call-up in March of 2008. I've reached out via email and asked him about this, he's unsure as to why its not documented on hockeydb or NHL.com, but he was aware that both bodies incorrectly documented this activity...

I'm currently working on resolving this, thanks Ahecht. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.15.52.96 (talk) 01:03, 1 February 2015‎ (UTC)

As I work on getting that reference,

He does satisfy the following with the Ontario Junior Hockey League's Stouffville Spirit...

4. Achieved preeminent honors (all-time top ten career scorer, First Team All-Star, All-American) in a lower minor league, in a major junior league, or in a major collegiate hockey league (Note: merely playing in a major junior league or major collegiate hockey is not enough to satisfy inclusion requirements);

Ahecht,

NHL preseason games are NHL-sanctioned, while attending the Columbus Blue Jackets 2007 main camp he did participate in preseason games.

@74.15.52.96: Preseason games aren't recorded as games played, and especially on Wikipedia the general outcome in a deletion discussion is not to include them. In any case, my talk page isn't the appropriate venue for this, and you should be presenting these arguments/evidence at the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Kevin_Jarman. --Ahecht (TALK

Silent Teaching

Hi Ahecht,

I've recently been working on a page entitled Silent Teaching. My intention was not to write this in the first person but rather to build awareness through Wikipedia as to the extent of the uses of Silent Teaching, as I found there are pages attributed to silent teaching from other sources. I made valid attempt to relate to these sources through the piece submitted.

Are there any options or suggestions you may have? The only 'published' platform for the silent teaching work is via the Times Education Supplement website and through work with National Autism Society, together with published mentions of the work online.

Is there a way I could construct the writing in a way that may be better received via Wikipedia, as the piece is written to provide an account and an incite into silent teaching and not for the purpose of self-promotion. A number of colleagues were involved in assisting the original draft so I am exploring options if any are available.

Kind regards Tor — Preceding unsigned comment added by SILENT TEACHING (talkcontribs) 18:43, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

@SILENT TEACHING: Unfortunately, Wikipedia limits itself to subjects that have already received wide coverage from reliable sources. Per the policy at WP:NOTPROMOTION, Wikipedia shouldn't be used as a platform to build awareness, as its designed to only cover subjects that people are aware of. Furthermore, if you are providing an account and an insight into silent teaching that hasn't already been published then you fall afoul of Wikipedia's original research policy. If the accounts and insights into silent teaching receive significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article, then, and only then, you can use that information in a Wikipedia article. --Ahecht (TALK

Silent Teaching - Awareness/Independent and Reliable Sources

Hi Ahecht, Thank you. In response to your feedback:

1) People are aware of the subject of silent teaching and a number of these have downloaded silent teaching reports via the Times Education Supplement website 2)The account written mentions specifically work in the area of study via: See how this relates to earlier work [6] by Caleb Gattegno who said: "Teachers should concentrate on how students learn, not on how to teach" - Caleb's work is already noted via Wikipedia and thus the subject is widely known 3)The work in silent teaching has received media coverage via The South Shields Gazette and this is independent coverage and a great number of additional publications have commented on the subject of silent teaching, also reliable and independent

What would be your guidance in developing a Wikipedia page on-going, if any? Could I cite some of these additional sources who have commented independently on the subject of Silent Teaching?

Kind regards Tor
