UNESCO sites

[edit]

Hiya, welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for creating so many pages on important UNESCO heritage sites. However, could I draw your attention to one or two of our policies that affect this? First of all - all articles should "assert their notability". This basically means that you need to list some sources other than UNESCO about the sites you talk about, to show that they are of general interest.

Secondly, you should ideally cite where you get your information from (this is also useful to read). However, most importantly - keep up the good work! If you have any problems, feel free to ask on my talkpage, or type {{helpme}} and a question here, and someone will assist! ╟─TreasuryTagcontribs─╢ 21:35, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have created a great many articles using this so far non existent category. "Cultural Heritage" is a wide term. Which cultural heritage are you hoping to categorise? Fiddle Faddle (talk) 22:58, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop and think about your use of this category. First there is another category Category:Cultural heritage. The capitalisation is different and this makes a huge difference. Second you are not being sufficiently specific in your categorisation. A little work and thought now will save a lot in the future. Please don't spoil the good work that tyou are engaged in by allowing this mis-categorisation to continue. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 23:16, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: I wanted to create a blanket/umbrella category that all of the sites fall into. Yeah its broad, but it encompasses all the world's historic cultural places accurately. Other categories such as cultural anthropology are even more broad! These places are our collective global heritage and need to be immediately recognized.

I hope others will discover this category and add to it as I have done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adunbar505 (talkcontribs)

I think that will not really work. Please take note of the capitalisation issue, and that the upper case category is to be discussed for merging. Your opinion is valid at that discussion. To find it please visit the category and follow the links in the banner. If you put a good case your opinion may hold sway. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 23:26, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK I will create a subcategory under Cultural heritage that explicitly defines the sites as UNESCO tentative list sites, as well as if each falls into another subcategory of Cultural heritage. I won't make any changes until this issue is resolved.

Thanks for understanding and your help, as I am new here and trying to learn how things work here. You all have been nothing but helpful and patient.

New Subcategory 'Cultural heritage sites' ??

[edit]

What about creating the subcategory of 'Cultural heritage sites'? That would solve the problem right there and explicitly define and narrow down the category. I now understand my mistake with the capitalization issue.

New pages

[edit]

Hi there, nice to create so many new pages about heritage site, please be aware of the structure of an wikipedia article: the categories belong to the end of the article. Like:

[[Category:1]]

[[Category:2]]

And there is a category called: [[Category:Cultural Sites on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List]] please add the adequate articles in this cat. Thanks and have a nice day. -- Sebastian scha. (talk) 11:14, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
