Thanks and a question
Hey. Thanks for the welcome template ;) I actually have a quick question for you if you know the answer. Bridget Bishop just got created and it's a blatant copy-paste job of [1]. I put a note in the talk page of that entry, but I'm not sure where else to indicate this problem. Should I just nuke all the content on the entry? VfD it? etc...? Not quite sure what to do with it. Thanks! Zachlipton 21:27, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Well that was fast. Thanks :) Zachlipton 21:27, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Hehe, -1 minute is obsessively fast even by my wiki-addicted standards… As linked of the page in question, the action to undertake on blatant copy&paste jobs (unless they clearly claim that the copyright holder has given permission) is to blank, stick a {{copyvio|url=http://original/material/was/here.htm}} template on it and list it on Wikipedia:Copyright problems (aka WP:CP aka copyvio (all to save typing)). --fvw* 21:31, 2004 Nov 27 (UTC)

Missing I Think
According to Kernighan and Ritchie p202 there is a space flag available.
The space flag means leave a space for numeric sign even if missing.
I don't see anything about that in the printf article.
The printf article helped me a lot and I hope it remains available.

Dear Zachlipton, I'm editing this page as part of a senior prank and will revert my own changes in less than a week, and seeing as how the article is not in encyclopedia format, I suggest you let me edit it at will, or remove it entirely, as it is not in the correct form or tone. Rollback
Per your request, I've granted you rollback. Just a few things to remember:
- Rollback is for blatant vandalism. Only. If you're not sure, use another button.
- Rollback doesn't give you any special status
- Misuse will lead to it being removed. This can be done by any administrator at any time
- You can get to grips with Rollback and test it at Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback
- Make sure you read Help:Reverting and WP:RBK.

Hello, these parties don't exist in Italy, but only on english wikipedia. You should check on Italian Wikipedia, Italian Newspapers and on the website of Italian Minister of the Interior and you will find nothing about them. Because these pages have been written someone who want to promote himself. The only true party that exist in the reality is the Northern League alias Lega Nord of Umberto Bossi. That's all. I suggest you to check all the information and then delete those pages. I'm trying to clear those page removing the false informations. Per your revert of my edit to Religion in the United States:
My discussion of that edit has been sitting on the article's talk page for over a month. I don't know why you didn't read the article's talk page before telling me I should post on the article's talk page, but I cited the relevant talk page section as my reason for editing. I waited quite a long time for someone to respond before proceeding with the edit, even as two other people came and made the edit I was talking about, only to have it reverted again. Hello Zachlipton,
I notice that you edited the Worth School article in the past. I have adjusted the article, with some text removal, and have restructured the 'Notable' list. I have laid out my views, observations, suggestions and requests on the Talk:Worth School page.

File source problem with File:EOD.gif
Thank you for uploading File:EOD.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. John Wright
I am not sure why you think it is not proper to include what I had done. In fact under Ride with the Devil it clearly states the fact that the movie failed because of John Wrights potraal of a negro fighting for the South.
The film was intended to be a summer blockbuster, costing over US$35 million to produce. However, despite majority positive reviews by film critics it received negative press after screenings because of the portrayal of a Black Confederate guerrilla by Jeffrey Wright in a role based on Free Black John Noland who rode with Confederate raider Quantrill. trueblood (talk) 01:16, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

The CDC Literature is some of the most fantastic Conspiracy theory work ever written
Ten Great Public Health Achievements -- United States, 1900-1999 http://cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00056796.htm Take this one Nothing in that document is true except perhaps Motor Vehicle safety and safer workplaces perhaps. - I have no interest in arguing about public health with you. My point is simply that a government document on public health does not belong in the conspiracy theory article. The document may be true or not, but it's simply not relevant. Please do not continue to add it. Thanks. Zachlipton (talk) 06:50, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
You removed my edit and do not allow any kind of defense for my actions. You make it sound like the literature did not belong in the conspiracy theory article as if it had no place when I put it in the literature section where it belongs. By todays standards the CDC literature would be at best classified as original research and should not be allowed in Wikipedia except for the Conspiracy theory literature section.

Um, those edits are obviously vandalism
The edits are clearly vandalism because they're a non sequitur. For example, to paraphrase one of Weird Al Yankovic's most famous lyrics, if I were to post a discussion of the oeuvre of Rob Schneider to the SpongeBob SquarePants or MacGyver articles, just because I thought Schneider's oeuvre makes him a great candidate for playing SpongeBob or MacGyver in a future film, that would clearly amount to obvious vandalism of Wikipedia. That's essentially what 71.132.142.209 is doing to the article. --Coolcaesar (talk) 06:03, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Mormons
Your edits of Mormonism show a complete lack of knowledge of the religion and it is your stance that is not neutral. Every major church has condemned Mormonism as unChristian heresy. Saying that Mormonism believes in the same Jesus of Christianity is like saying creationist science believes in the same scientific principles as actual scientists. It is obvious that you are a Mormon, and you are trying to spread Mormonism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.11.77.254 (talk) 13:50, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Ludwig von Mises
You have retrieved the predeletion version of the article stating that the "opinions are well referenced". While I do not contardict your point as such (Milton Friedman did such comment and Mises did leave the room), please reconsider if "Criticism" section really shall consist of ad personam comments directed at diminishing respect for the person, even when the comments are given by such figure as M. Friedman.
To compare the quality level of criticism look at the following excerpt from bio article about M. Friedman:
"Austrian school criticism
During 1971, libertarian economist Murray Rothbard wrote a lengthy article for The Individualist which criticized several of Friedman's viewpoints as totalitarian and statist. In particular, Rothbard criticized these views of Friedman:
- That the micro- and macro-spheres are entirely separate, with the government needing to take an active role in the macro-sphere (Rothbard saw this as false and dangerous);
- That it is beneficial for the government to control currency to maintain constant price levels as bogus and harmful, and;
- That nonpaying beneficiaries of positive externalities created by various services should be taxed to pay producers of that service (Rothbard saw this as an absurd position that opens the door for the most ridiculous forms of totalitarianism).
More generally, Rothbard criticized Friedman's efforts to make the government more efficient as detrimental to individual liberty. He concluded that "And so, as we examine Milton Friedman’s credentials to be the leader of free-market economics, we arrive at the chilling conclusion that it is difficult to consider him a free-market economist at all."[54] Friedman's position on governmental control of money changed since 1971 when this criticism was made.[55] In a 1995 interview in Reason magazine he said the "difference between me and people like Murray Rothbard is that, though I want to know what my ideal is, I think I also have to be willing to discuss changes that are less than ideal so long as they point me in that direction". He said he actually would "like to abolish the Fed", and points out that when he has written about the Fed it is simply his recommendations of how it should be run given that it exists.[5]"
So my point rests: "The section shall be all deleted as it contains no intellectual counter points but only disinformative ad personam smears and poorly fragmented gossip)" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.90.178.104 (talk) 00:02, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ok sure. Please discuss this at Talk:Ludwig von Mises with other editors who are interested in this topic. Together you can all build a consensus version that best handles this situation. That consensus may be to remove the section entirely, or it might be to completely rewrite it, or something else, but talking about the issue with other editors on the article's talk page is the first step. Recent tag
You placed a notability tag on the Prevent Cancer Foundation article that I removed. I started this article because there is currently a speed running marathon charity fundraiser, and I wanted to make an article for people watching the fundraiser to see if they try to find out about this organization. I'm afraid a notability tag could turn away donations, so if you plan to re add it please do so in a couple days once the marathon ends. This organization has donated many millions of dollars, so I think it's notable anyways, I'll look for some more sources. --AerobicFox (talk) 00:38, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hey. Unfortunately, the organization's notability doesn't depend on whether they are running a fundraiser. Certainly, if you've got third party reliable sources (WP:N), that's great and you should add them, but an organization's home page and a Better Business Bureau page don't establish notability. You need actual articles from newspapers and similar reliable sources discussing the charity for that. Let me know if I can answer any more questions. Zachlipton (talk) 00:43, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- The organization isn't running the fundraiser, a group of video game speed runners whose site I enjoy immensely are doing a fundraiser and choose to donate to this foundation. Also, the millions they have donated and used to fund research establishes their notability. I'll find more materials in the next half an hour or so. --AerobicFox (talk) 00:50, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Zach,
Just letting you know this 'article' has, apparently, been speedy-deleted as a copy-vio but has been re-posted by the same author Aswn (talk · contribs) on Jan 4th.
I also nominated another of their creations Jeppiaar Engineering College Bus Routes(basically a bus timetable!) for speedy-deletion but the editor removed the template, though I have now put it back. Just FYI. - 220.101 talk\Contribs 16:11, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up 220. I renominated Formula Jeppiaar as it's still a copyvio (and not notable, and probably an autobiography, but one issue at a time). The bus timetable is quite the piece of work; almost as bad as the user last night who kept re-adding a list of upcoming college admissions visits to a high school's entry. Cheers. - Thank you For the quick action. I could have done it, but thought you might 'like' to! I've just been to Jeppiaar Engineering College to remove the links to the deleted articles. Can't believe that a bus timetable lasted several days! Happy editing! (& tagging!) - 220.101 talk\Contribs 07:40, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

National Healthy Schools Programme
Hi Zach, thanks for your tags on the above article -which increased my efforts to fix quickly. Healthy Schools Status has several hundred potential claimants and was the only award at my local school without a Wiki entry. Unfortunately Her Majesty's websites are all being scrapped or rewritten by the new government and finding any summary took many times longer than I expected. If you have time, could you see if you feel the tags could be removed? I'm not insulted if the answer is no. I'll also try to get an education person involved. JRPG (talk) 22:07, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Certainly. I've gone ahead and removed them, as the article looks quite nice now. Thanks. In the future, there's absolutely no problem with removing these kinds of templates yourself if you've addressed the issue they refer to: they are merely advisory tags to highlight work that articles need. The only time you shouldn't remove tags is when an article you've created is nominated for speedy deletion (the tag has a warning not to remove it). Otherwise, edit away! Feel free to let me know if I can help with anything else. Cheers. Zachlipton (talk) 22:26, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Hey
Do you have any idea what to do with this user? I'm not interested in edit war in that category page. --Neptune 123 (talk) 07:25, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- That's a bit of an odd one. Wonder just how he got the idea that new articles go in there. Those edits are pretty blatantly wrong, so I wouldn't really worry about edit warring per se (there's exception to the WP:3RR for vandalism reversions), but I'm inclined to AGF and consider him to be confused for the time being. I just left another note on his talk page under yours along with a welcome template; we'll see if he gets the message. If the edits persist after we've made a few good faith edits to help him, then I'd just consider it vandalism and treat it like any other vandalism incident: revert, warn, and if it persists, report to WP:ANV. Cheers. Zachlipton (talk) 07:34, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi again Zach
I stuck my nose into this a little too. I 'modfied' your post slightly, as the text Category:Industrialists was not appearing in your note. I just added a leading colon ' : ' like this [[:Category:Industrialists]]. This 'also' stops the talk page appearing on the 'Industrialists' category page. I assume this is what you wanted? - 220.101 talk\Contribs 09:02, 8 January 2011 (UTC)- Whoops. That's what I get for not previewing (or even looking at my edit apparently). That is what I intended, and I certainly didn't plan to pollute the category page further!. Thanks for the correction. Zachlipton (talk) 09:04, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi again Zach
Heads up
Hi - someone may have told you this before, but just a heads up: you should be waiting more than a few seconds before tagging articles with A1 or A3, as you did in Garil number. I've heard on multiple occasions that 5 or so minutes is a good limit on when you can tag pages with these templates. Thank you. :.:∙:∙∙:∙:.:|pepper|:.:∙:∙∙:∙:.: 10:26, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Pepper. You're right. I usually wait longer, but was a little snappy in this case clearly. Of course the editor hasn't returned to add anything more to the article, but I still should have given him/her a bit more of a chance. I suppose the complete lack of content, the a brand new user account, and having 0 google hits for "Garil number" are a bit of a clue. Anyway, thanks and happy editing. Zachlipton (talk) 10:29, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yep - no problem. Another thing though - schools aren't eligible for {{db-corp}}, as it says "Note that schools are not eligible under this criterion." on the deletion template, so I've re-tagged Marshside Primary School with A1. Cheers, :.:∙:∙∙:∙:.:|pepper|:.:∙:∙∙:∙:.: 10:35, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Fashion Bomb
It is not vandalism, and I would appreciate it being left. I was under the assumption this was supposed to be a page of fact... Not what people chose fact to be! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Just-the-beginning (talk • contribs) 08:58, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- All I did was revert this edit which blanked out an entire section, so I'm not really sure why I'm caught up in this. In any case, thanks for citing a source! That's what we're all about here :) Let me know if you have any questions I can help with. Happy editing. Zachlipton (talk) 09:01, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
I am uber new to this and I really do not understand completely how this works. I keep adding facts to this Fashion Bomb page, they keep being deleted. They are facts as I proved to you by citing the source. Can you help me do this properly so it stays??
- I'd be happy to help, but I can't do so right this minute. The best thing to do would be to write {{help me}} into your own talk page. A volunteer who is offering to help new editors will be with you shortly. Just explain what's going on and you should get some good feedback. I'll check in on you in a little while when I'm free and can devote more time to this. Cheers. Zachlipton (talk) 01:26, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Again I am having issues with the Fashion Bomb wiki page. I think it is interesting facts of real names of members in the band. Not Just one but all. Can you please help me with these edits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Just-the-beginning (talk • contribs) 03:15, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Jumping to a third level warning was a tad harsh. The pages were created in one go and the user had not received any previous warnings. Level 3 assumes bad faith, which I see no evidence of. I left the user a personal message on his talk page and he hasn't created any articles since. Feezo (Talk) 23:49, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- I suppose I agree with you. At the time, it looked like the user had created additional pages after your message, so I was trying to get him to knock it off before he created yet more pages. Looking at it now, I see that he did stop earlier, so it looks like your message worked. Thanks. Zachlipton (talk) 23:54, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
The IP
The IP is someone who refuses to create an account, switches IPs and is on vandal patrol. You shouldn't ask him to create an account, he won't. The edit summary was in reference to a run-in I had with him a year ago or so. Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 08:42, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

What am I doing wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scema12 (talk • contribs) 09:08, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, um, since you asked, you're replacing images in Disability with completely unrelated ones, as in this edit: 1. The existing images depict important material described in the article. Your image depicts nothing in particular and has no relation to the captions. Please stop replacing them. Let me know if you have any questions. Zachlipton (talk) 09:11, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Excuse me, this man has a disability, just like I do, please sir, you're offending my race. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scema12 (talk • contribs) 09:13, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- Neither race nor anyone's disabilities have anything to do with this. That image is simply not relevant and doesn't belong in place of the universal symbol of access. Continuing to replace these images is vandalism. Thank you. Zachlipton (talk) 09:15, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Excuse me, you're violating my acts as a mexican citizen, it state under our code of contact section 31, paragraph FOURTEEN, under the "Disability Act", that the right of man with a disability is above all and must be committed to or face death by execution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scema12 (talk • contribs) 09:19, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not going to discuss this issue with you any further, as I believe I've given you all the information there is to say on this topic. If you continue to replace these images, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Good night. Zachlipton (talk) 09:20, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
I've reported User:Scema12 to WP:AIV. Thanks for looking after this very important article. Roger (talk) 09:35, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Glad I caught it. He actually seems to have stopped after our little "discussion" (which is confusing the heck out of me) or I would have taken it to AIV myself. He very well might start the vandalism up again, but I'm inclined to AGF and give him one more chance to edit constructively as he did make an effort to discuss the issue, however strangely, and then stopped his vandalism. That's just my opinion though. Zachlipton (talk) 09:40, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Ivica Kostelic
Thank you for your welcome ... This article is great, with one exception - controversy part. I don't think there's reasonable need for that part since it doesn't stand for itself in any reasonable manner. Neither it's a important fact about his career, neither it depicts his persona in a honest light! In fact, it's only a evidence of wikipedias weaknesses! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.152.245.18 (talk) 09:29, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- Certainly, and welcome again to Wikipedia. I understand your concerns. Really, discussing these kinds of issues is exactly what Wikipedia is all about. However, blindly deleting the entire section without comment doesn't allow any opportunity for discussion or consensus, a key pillar of our community. I have no personal knowledge or interest in the subject; I merely saw your edit as one that removed a large section of content without any explanation or discussion. Every article has a talk page (see WP:TALK for more information about talk pages) for discussion amongst editors interested in the topic. So for this article, we have the page Talk:Ivica Kostelić. As you can see, there has already been some discussion of this issue there. I encourage you to post your views to that talk page and work with other editors to propose changes that would make the article better comply to our guidelines around presenting information in a neutral point of view. You might want to consider registering for a user account too, which will help you better participate in the discussion. Let me know if I can answer any more questions, and again, welcome! Zachlipton (talk) 09:36, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I understand that decision making proces out here is something that undermines the whole overall quality of articles...
So, I think all of you on this project should keep on finding controversies as something more important!

Need help with not have my article deleted
Hi Zach
Your name was on the bottom of the reasons why an article that I submitted is going to be deleted. I really know nothing about wikipedia. I was wondering if you were able to help me with why my article is going to be deleted and how to avoid it or redo the article to make it acceptable for wikipedia. The name of the article is "Management of Iron Overload in Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS)". I work for a non profit organization and this topic is not covered on wikipedia what is already on there about Myelodysplastic Syndromes. One of our MDS doctors wrote it and we thought it would be helpful. One of the reasons it was being deleted was copyright infringement. This article was given to us by the doctor who wrote it so we would post it on wikipedia. Any help you have would be greatly appreciated.

- Well you've been blocked so I doubt you'll ever see this message, but I would do as others have already asked you to do: read WP:NOT and WP:OR. The copyright issue can be handled with appropriate permissions, but the article was fundamentally unencyclopedic and original research and that's not going to change with a copyright permission. Let me know if you have any questions. Zachlipton (talk) 19:19, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Medieval Astrology
Hi there Zach, A recent article of mine "Medieval Astrology" was deleted based on a statement that there was copyright infringement involved. I am not aware of any copyright transgressions in this article!! The sources of materials are legit and the information is original. How can i go about to re-instate this article as this is simply unacceptable. I am still busy working on new sections for the article too and invite others to contribute, but it surely does not need this moratorium placed on it! Sandy Collier 20:40, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Sandycollier — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sandycollier (talk • contribs)
- Hi Sandy. I don't remember the specific details, and since the article was deleted I can't access it anymore, but I can see that the article contained copyright infringements from this website. I believe it was this page in particular, but it may have involved multiple pages on that site. The copying was found by simply googling a few phrases from the article and seeing that major portions of the article appeared verbatim on this site. As such, the article was speedy deleted in accordance with WP:CV. You should also be aware of WP:PARAPHRASE, which prohibits large sections of text that closely paraphrases copyrighted material. In other words, simply changing some words in a copyrighted webpage and posting it to Wikipedia isn't ok either. If I remember correctly, the article was also unsourced, another major problem. Please WP:CITE all your sources whenever you add new information to Wikipedia. Let me know if you have any more questions or I can help with anything else. Happy editing.
Sandy Collier 00:05, 11 January 2011 (UTC)sandycollier Hi Zach, i just visited the pages you indicated above and nowhere could i find sufficient duplication of what is contained on the site pages in my text. I'm afraid whatever the Google results delivered was not in fact the source of any information in my article. furthermore, i cited 4 references to start off with, with more to follow in the rest of the article. i would like to repost this article and invite other authors to contribute.
- Hi Sandy. To be honest, I don't remember the specific details, and since the page has been deleted, I can't look at it anymore. I do remember that a substantial portion of the text was copied and pasted from another website. This was confirmed by an administrator when he deleted the page. You are, of course, welcome to try again as long as your content complies with our copyright policy and our notability rules. I highly highly highly recommend starting your article as a userspace draft first. That way you can work on it at your leisure in your own userspace without having to worry about it being deleted right away. Once it's ready for public attention, you can follow the directions to move it over to the main article namespace. You should also take a look at Wikipedia:Your first article if you haven't done so already. I hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer any more questions. Zachlipton (talk) 00:10, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Sandy Collier 09:05, 12 January 2011 (UTC)sandycollier - Zach, thank you, i will repost it with some more work in the userspace. I appreciate your inputs, but do take serious offence to this accusation of copy pasting. I do hope that in the next round whoever checks the texts actually does so with a fine comb. The text was completely original and quite frankly it makes my blood boil just a little that incorrect assumptions are made. Notwithstanding this, i will repost the article again at some point soon and i will go and check this other website to make sure there is no coincidental paraphrasing of information. I refuse to cite that specific website, seeing as they are not legal copyright holders of the materials they sell, but this another issue altogether. I have been through all the first article and other help pages. thank you for your courteous correspondence to date! Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sandycollier (talk • contribs) 09:05, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- Certainly no offense is intended. You've been very conscientious here and I appreciate your efforts to learn more about Wikipedia and our guidelines. Creating a new article is a pretty difficult task and a fairly large proportion of new articles, especially those created by new users, tend to get deleted. In other words, don't give up! I'm sorry I can't give you a better answer about what specifically happened with your first attempt, but I hope your next effort is successful. There are also plenty of other ways to contribute by improving existing articles. Happy editing! Zachlipton (talk) 10:12, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
