Welcome!
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions so far. I hope you like the place and decide to stay.
Here are some links to pages you may find useful:
- Contributing to Wikipedia
- Tutorial
- How to edit a page and How to develop articles
- Simplified Manual of Style
You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but if you wish to acquire additional privileges, you can simply create a named account. It's free, requires no personal information, and lets you:
- Create new pages and rename pages
- Edit semi-protected pages
- Upload images
- Have your own watchlist, which shows when articles you are interested in have changed
Note that in order for the first three features to be available, you must have had an account for a minimum number of days and made a minimum number of edits.
If you edit without using a named account, your IP address (65.94.170.207) is used to identify you instead.
I hope that you, as a Wikipedian, decide to continue contributing to our project: an encyclopedia of human knowledge that anyone can edit. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, or you can to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. We also have an intuitive guide on editing if you're interested. By the way, please make sure to sign and date your talk page comments with four tildes (~~~~).
Happy editing! — MarkH21talk 10:22, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

SpicyMilkBoy (talk) 15:11, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Athena (company) moved
[edit]A very good catch on your part regarding the lack of precision with "Athena (company)" as an article title. Since it didn't need require an admin (just a logged-in user) and I'm familiar with WP:disambiguation and naming conventions, I went ahead and moved it (and the disambiguation page) for you.
But I chose "Athena (game developer)" as the title rather than "Athena (video game company)" as it is shorter (I'm not a fan of three-word disambiguating parentheses) and still unambiguous (no other game development people or companies are called Athena), as well as a term used in the article's lede paragraph. I took that lead from M2 (game developer), Sidhe (game developer), etc. If you disagree, I can move it again. There is a guideline somewhere (I can't find it) suggesting that where a company does one thing it is best to describe it in a dab parenthesis (e.g.: "(retailer)") than use the vague term, "company".
I did check elsewhere that they were principally a developer who used other publishers (although they did directly publish at least one game). I did consider "(game company)" but it seemed unidiomatic English (to me at least) and is a rarely used phrase on Wikipedia.
Llew Mawr (talk) 00:04, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. "videogame" would also function as a single word there. "game x" would need checks for other forms of games, like gambling, tabletop, etc. I chose "video game" because videogaming articles have used that format (with the space between video and game) -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 08:00, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- Yes. I did those checks. "video game developer" would be equally acceptable per policy if you want me to move it there. I was just applying Occam's razor. Llew Mawr (talk) 14:43, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Athena
[edit]P.S. I re-organised Athena (disambiguation) again. I didn't revert your organisational edits as I found some of them helpful (e.g.: splitting off people and places at the top and the subsection space entries). However, I, in effect, reverted some of your changes where they didn't comply with MOS:DP, the manual of style policy on dab pages (e.g.: sections with one entry), created too much crossover between sections or strayed far from WP:LONGDAB template for organising disambiguation pages.
Llew Mawr (talk) 00:04, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll split off the givenname characters and givenname people to Athena (given name) now -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 08:00, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

I didn't put it under contested moves because I notice that, at least twice, when other editors have done that and your request was discussed and properly turned down, you went back later and relisted it as uncontroversial. That is not the right thing to do. Station1 (talk) 06:33, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- I saw that it disappeared but did not show up in the contested section, nor did it appear in a new discussed move. So I did not see the outcome. If it had be contested as controversial, it should have appeared in either the contested section, or in a new discussed move request, since it did not do so, it just disappeared. That's something not documented in the process, so I refiled, since it could easily be accidentally deleted by someone filing a new request. Other things requested on other project pages are deleted by other users filing new requests, or trying to add new things. If it is contested, then it should appear in the contested section, or appear as a new full move request. It should not disappear, as it can clearly disappear in error. RMTR is for moving pages about, as I am requesting the edit history of a page be relocated, then that seems to be the place to request it. It is not said in WP:NOTRM that redirects with histories should not be requested to WPRM. -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 07:06, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- No, you participated in the discussion about Montecore. If you're unsure about what happens in the future, you can click on "View history" to see what happened; often editors will even mention it in the edit summary, like for CANA, which was removed after several hours in the Contested section. In any case, WP:RM states "Do not create a move request to rename one or more redirects. Redirects cannot be used as current titles in requested moves." A contested "move" of a redirect is not even possible. I do not understand why you would even want to move a redirect's history. There's no benefit, and in some cases, such as when a page has been merged and the old page is linked from an edit summary, it can actually cause problems for attribution, where the edit history is "hidden" under a title that never really existed. But if I'm missing something, please let me know. Otherwise please consider these requests always controversial. Station1 (talk) 07:51, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- I consider that redirects with history can be moved, because it would keep a clear record of what edits in the history are involved in the particular subject of the redirect at the time the history existed. If the page was merged, then the history attribution templates can be adjusted to indicate the current location of the premerger history. The history diff/old links themselves will always link to the correct pages, since they seem to be unique identifiers, and attribution templates use such links. If articles are broken out again to separate articles, then these new articles can easily be associated with the edit histories of the old version of the article, if they are cleanly separated from non-topical edits. For Montecore, there was a question, and a result that was a conversion to a disambiguation page. The earlier history was unrelated to the disambiguation page. That precluded further discussion about the history. (It also would not qualify for further discussion at RFD, as it is not a redirect; and the edit history was no longer current, per WP:NOTRM, no longer qualifying for discussion at RM). Montecore is attributed with attribution templates (and the linked oldid 122973863; If I ask WP to look at List_of_Cory_in_the_House_episodes with 122973863 I get Montecore: [1]). In this case of "The New Kid in Town", it is incorrectly located because it is not the proper spelling of the episode title (which does not contain the "The") thus should be moved to the correct title, as it contains the edit history of an earlier article about that episode, so the episode article should be correctly titled, or in this case, the page that contains the edit history of the article episode. Clearly indicating the content of the edit history of the page in its page title would clearly indicate what the history contains. If pages are moved in the full discussion RMs, then they will also encounter the difficulty of linking the edit comment with the pagename, thus should also be using attribution templates, which use diff/oldid id tags as them seem to be permanent identifiers to the particular edit and the current page containing the history. --- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 08:27, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- To the best of my knowledge, there is no consensus for doing that. But you might want to bring it up on a discussion page if you disagree. If anything, moving edit history out of the way makes things less clear. The histories of Montecore and CANA are now "hidden" at out of way unused titles. Yes, they can be found, but only with some difficulty in deciphering what was where. You're correct about the attribution templates, but they are not always used, and not always correctly. Luckily, in the case of Montecore, it appears that no content was actually merged into the other article and the editor did not link Montecore in the edit summary, but that is the case with some articles, especially older ones. The fact that CANA used to be an article that was merged into diazepam is now not readily seen from its history. If the title The New Kid in Town is incorrect, that's fine, because we have redirects from incorrect titles to help navigation. There's no reason we should hide the fact that it used to be an article that was redirected. Station1 (talk) 09:05, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- I didn't notice the missing attrib at CANA, thanks for that heads up. I have now added attribution templates. As for The New Kid in Town, it would not be hidden that it was an article that was redirect, it would emphasize that it is a page related to Cory in the House, with the rename. That "The" is not used doesn't seem to make the case it should indeed redirect to Cory. There being a primary topic currently for the "The"-less term that isn't Cory, which is also the actual name of the episode of Cory in the House, New Kid in Town, would seem a more logical use (or the disambig page). Boldly retargetting to either would lose the linkage to Cory, and if it isn't in the edit history summary would also be lost from incoming links that one might want to consult (which the CANA case continues to redirect to diazapem, so can be found with incoming links). Though retargetting to either would also associate an edit history of an article unrelated to either to exist, which concerns a different page. If the pagename used to hold the edit history is clearly and unlikely to be ever confusable with other topics, so "permanently" resolved to the topic of its history, then it should always be resolvable with the incoming links. After thinking about this situation; If the non-specific pagename is reused, it could be (accidentally) deleted, leaving a WP:MAD situation, also losing attribution. Or a confused attribution with multiple reuses and multiple merges. So, in that case, it would also be safer to have attributions in a topic identifiable location. Also {{R from merge}} needs to have date and to_diff parameters to indicate where and when in the destination it was merged to. A thought, redirects with interlanguage/interproject links and wikidata Q-pages should probably be moved or deleted instead of reused, since the Q-page is assigned to the permanent page-history-list ID (I think?) -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 09:50, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not dismissing your concerns. You have some interesting points. But I do think the general practice is that history stays with article title, not article topic. If The New Kid in Town is pointing to the wrong article, I think the general consensus is to simply boldly point it to the better article or dab page (or use WP:RFD) and leave its history intact. But I could be wrong and you may want to take this up elsewhere. Station1 (talk) 17:05, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
