Nama and Herero skulls back on home soil

[edit]

The Skulls of the genocide that took place more than 100 years ago by Germany during the (Germans and Herero, Nama Genocide of 1904- 1908) finally returned home. A massive crowd gathered in the early hours at the Hosea Kutako Airport on wednesday 05, October 2001, for the homecoming of the 20 skulls. A total of 20 skulls were returned, of which 11 reported belongs to the Nama people while 9 for Herero people. The delegation that returned the skulls consisted of 60 members and it's expected more skulls to be repatriated. Among the skulls, were a skull of a four year old and most victims were up to 35 years old. The skulls were displayed at the Parliament Garden and the memorial service proceeded to the Heroes' Acre on the 5th October 2011. The skulls will become part of the Namibian Museum collection upon completion.[1] [2] Nekombas (talk) 09:04, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
