The Art Collection Deutsche Börse is a collection of international contemporary photography. It currently comprises around 1,800 works by over 120 artists. In 1999, Deutsche Börse Group began building up the Art Collection Deutsche Börse. With the founding of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in 2015, the collection was transferred to the Foundation, which has since been responsible for the further development, presentation, and preservation of the Art Collection Deutsche Börse.[1] The Photography Foundation's collection and changing exhibition program are open to the public.
Main focus of the collection
[edit]The Art Collection Deutsche Börse is thematically open. It is dedicated to the central themes of contemporary photography from the middle of the 20th century onwards. The range of subjects extends from landscapes to portraits, still lifes, interiors, and street photography. The fact that works of museum quality are created not only where they are produced for the art market or the museum wall is demonstrated by the integration of extensive groups of documentary and reportage photography into the collection body. What they all have in common, however, is the occupation with and exploration of the "conditio humana ", the sounding out of the conditions of human existence and its location in the world.
Famous names in contemporary photography such as Stephen Shore, Bernd und Hilla Becher and Andreas Gursky enter into a dialogue with the positions of young photographic artists, including Pieter Hugo, Beate Gütschow, Geert Goiris and Tobias Zielony. Among the representatives of documentary and reportage photography are, among others Werner Bischof, Barbara Klemm, Anja Niedringhaus or Sebastião Salgado. A series of works is acquired from each artist in the collection so that their personal visual language becomes visible.
Curator of the Art Collection is Anne-Marie Beckmann, who has supervised and developed the collection since its inception.
Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation
[edit]The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation is a non-profit foundation based in Frankfurt whose purpose is to promote contemporary photography. The Foundation's activities focus on collecting, exhibiting and promoting photography. The expansion of the Art Collection Deutsche Börse is one of the foundation's central tasks. Further focal points are the awarding of awards and scholarships, the promotion of young talent, the support of exhibition projects in international museums and institutions, and the expansion of platforms for academic exchange via the medium. With these formats and through its active cooperation with various cultural institutions, the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation contributes to the development of contemporary photography.[2] These include, for example, the photo triennial Ray Photography Projects in Frankfurt, the internationally renowned Foam Talent Program in cooperation with the Foam Photography Museum Amsterdam, the HfG Photography Award for students of the photography faculty at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach and scholarships awarded in cooperation with the "Frankfurter Verein für Künstlerhilfe e.V.".
