Usage
[edit]- This redirect category (rcat) template populates both Category:Redirects from people and Category:Printworthy redirects. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Mainspace redirects from a person or persons are usually suitable for a printed version. In other words they are printworthy. See below for those instances when a redirect from a person is unprintworthy.
Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{Rcat shell|
{{R from person}}
{{R printworthy}}
}}
- Use the DEFAULTSORT magic word to ensure that person redirects are sorted by surname rather than given name.
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{R from person}}
- This is in accord with instructions found at WP:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat to tag any mainspace redirect from a person or persons to a related article that includes the person(s). This applies when that redirect is a topic more specific than currently provided on the target page or section of that page, and so is a subject that may be suitable for expansion in accordance with Wikipedia's policy on biographies of notable people.
- Most of these redirects are considered printworthy, so this rcat also populates Category:Printworthy redirects by default. There are some redirects from persons that are not considered notable and printworthy, so when you add this rcat to a redirect that you decide is unprintworthy, then use the unnamed parameter to subdue the Printworthy redirects category in the following manner:
{{Rcat shell|
{{R from person|1=unprintworthy}}
{{R unprintworthy}}
}}
- or the
1=
may be omitted:
{{Rcat shell|
{{R from person|unprintworthy}}
{{R unprintworthy}}
}}
- and when used individually:
{{R from person|unprintworthy}}
- That will subdue the Printworthy redirects category and will add the redirect to Category:Unprintworthy redirects.
Aliases and variants
[edit]- Also known as... – list of templates that redirect here and may also be used
More-specific redirects: several redirects are more specific and should be used when applicable, as they may eventually become maintenance subcategories if Category:Redirects from people becomes too unwieldy:
- {{R from founder}}
- {{R from co-founder}}
- {{R from executive}}
- {{R from boardmember}}
- {{R from employee}}
- {{R from victim}}
There are also a few that have already split into separate template/category pairs:
{{R from member}}
(for bands, military units, etc.)
There are few occupational-relationship splits more specific than this. One is:
{{R from writer}}
a.k.a.{{R from author}}
A few family-relationship variants also exist:
{{R from relative}}
{{R from spouse}}
