notability
[edit]I note that Wikipedia's somewhat tedious guidelines on music notability declare that a musician or ensemble is Notable if it "[h]as released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable)." I also note that mclusky has, in fact, released at least two full-length albums, two singles, and a compilation album on the indie label Too Pure, which itself seems to be considered notable by Wikipedia (since there's no great big notability warning on its entry), has been doing business for about a decade and a half, and has been home to such similarly Notable artists as Stereolab, Laika, and PJ Harvey. By Wikipedia's standards, then, mclusky is Notable.
I also note that Wikipedia's guidelines also suggest that a band is Notable is it "[h]as been featured in multiple non-trivial published works in reliable and reputable media". Here are reviews of mclusky at the BBC [1], Slate [2], Pitchfork Media [3], and In These Times [4]. Again, by Wikipedia's standards, mclusky is Notable.
For the record, I found all of this after a couple minutes' worth of googling, which the last editor might have done just as easily before putting up the notability warning in the first place. Fumoses 05:10, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Further notability note. This band has influenced Fight Like Apes. :) --candle•wicke 09:03, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Grange Hill?
[edit]Is the band named after the Grange Hill character? If so, it should probably be mentioned. Kelvingreen 09:54, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Before their site went down, the band pointed out that the name "McLusky" wasn't a pop culture reference, or some honorable mention to their lives, etc. It was a name they liked and they decided to use.--Uber-Reindeer 19:07, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
