I can't see any reason why anyone would want to delete this. Is it the Wiki Police? Is it the way it is written? I'm sure it'll get edited and streamlined into better Wiki format; I'm no expert Wiki academic. Belmont IS a celebrated guitarist and sideman; just look at his involvement in the careers of many very famous artists. And he's active now - again with some of those famous artists. I counted at least a dozen 'red-inked' Wikipedia links to 'no page about Belmont' that suggested I should create a page. So I did. What's the problem? Jungle Recs (talk) 23:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi. It looks like you don't cite any reliable sources to show that he is notable. Here on Wikipedia we rely on reliable sources (newspaper articles, intervies and features in reliable music magazines and the like) to back up claims of notability. Since you do have numerous claims of notability (and is a member of Ducks Deluxe, which is notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia in the first place), that should be enoguh to call off a speedy deletion for now. However, please make sure that the article is sourced--for someone with such an extensive and long-reaching career it shouldn't be too hard to find them. Also, please make sure you get a look at Wiki's criteria for musician and band-related articles. Good luck. TheLetterM (talk) 04:04, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Methinks the Wiki Police Patrolman is a touch over-zealous, not just the expected over-pedantic! Wikipedia itself vouches over and over that Belmont is 'notable', playing as guitarist for (eg) both Elvis Costello and Johnny Cash as well as his numerous other contributions to many 'notable' bands. I didn't at first reference to the Allmusic Guide, because it's a bit rubbish - it gets dates wrong and says he's stopped playing 15 years ago. I usually find Wikipedia a lot more reliable than Allmusic which just relies on a few journalists with limited knowledge and resources - so it's strange that Wikipedia has to rely on Allmusic for 'verification'. Anyway, references and external links have been applied and no doubt my page will get improved on over time, rather than be threatened with deletion. Did the Patrolman really think it was a hoax or false claims? Surely the note asking for references would have sufficed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jungle Recs (talk • contribs) 11:05, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Jungle Recs (talk) 12:53, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
