The Handbook of British Chronology (Carlisle p. 236) states: BISHOP: James Ussher ACCESSION: abp of Armagh, to hold in commendam 16 Feb 1642 DEATH (unless otherwise stated): 21 Mar 1656. The HBOC treats the year as starting from 1 January, although at the time the year started later on 25 March. see: Old Style and New Style dates. So by old style he was bishop 1641-1655; by new style 1642-1656. I'm not sure which is best to use. Scrivener-uki (talk) 16:03, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
