General comments
[edit]Lake Travis High School is a wonderful high school, that lies near the lake. Many great activities and sports can be found there.
lake Travis High School is terrible —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.167.164.6 (talk) 01:42, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
This should be relabled as Lake Travis High Football otherwise you would think the only thing they do at Lake Travis is football. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.52.129.61 (talk) 16:01, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Re-organization
[edit]I have re-organized this article and added a lot of information, both to update recent athletic program events and to add information about other programs. As you can see, there are many sections that are empty or contain only skeleton write-ups. Volunteers are needed to flesh out these sections, especially in the 'Academic' section. I hope these changes have addressed some of the concerns posted on this site when it was just a stub with a write-up on the football program. Thanks,Osbaldistone (talk) 16:44, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Most of the article...
[edit]...is unsourced, consisting of breathless descriptions of athletic endeavors and rafts of non-notable people. Support with sources or most of the article will be cut, per WP:WPSCH/AG. 99.0.82.226 (talk) 23:04, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed. This thing has serious WP:Peacock issues. Reads like a brochure from school boosters or the Chamber of Commerce. Pride in ones school or town is a fine thing, but boosterism doesn't belong here. I'll check back in a couple mos. to see if anyone has done a much-needed rewrite. Assessment
[edit]I am assessing this article for WikiProject Schools after a request. Apologies for the delay in responding to the request, which was due to inactivity in the assessment department at the present time. This article is long and very detailed, and on the whole, I think it meets the quality required for C-class, though some further work appears to be needed for B-class. On importance, the alumni and in particular, the Newsweek reference, justify mid-importance, though I don't see enough for anything higher than this.
I am also noting here that I have removed the school songs on grounds of being primary source material and probably being copyrighted. If such material is public domain, please add it to Wikisource instead - see WP:WPSCH/AG#WNTI for more information - in any case, they don't belong on Wikipedia. I have also tagged for deletion the school seal, which was uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, as this is probably copyrighted with the school or author, and is hence non-free. Please only upload non-free content direct to the English Wikipedia.
When looking at the article, there are a few issues which need addressing. Firstly, as already mentioned on this talk page, this article reads as rather promotional. For instance, mentioning the school being "exemplary" in the first sentence is not appropriate. The opening sentence should simply introduce the article with very basic information such as the location. The school's assessment rating should instead be mentioned elsewhere with a clearer link to the Texas Education Agency accountability ratings system. Other problematic sentences in the article include "he highly acclaimed, award-winning Cavalier Band has won numerous awards and continues to have success.", "The school also offers students excellent opportunities to explore future career opportunities through elective courses.", and "The Lake Travis HS golf teams have a long history of success.". When adding information, just stick to the facts, for example, don't tell the reader that the school offers excellent career opportunities, simply shows what the school does offer and that will speak for itself - see WP:PEACOCK.
Secondly, the sports sections dominates the article, meaning that it is either overly long or other sections need expansion. I do note that this section is mostly well sourced, to its credit, so I think the latter is more true here. I would suggest re-organizing the article to better follow WP:WPSCH/AG#S, with missing sections added as appropriate.
Thirdly, the references section is long, though there are some gaps in the referencing, such as in alumni section - all alumni should be referenced per WP:BLP. Also, reference templates such as {{Cite web}}
should be used for all references with as many of the fields filled in as possible. The lone reference at the bottom of the references section does look a little awkward.
Finally, a long article looks a little bland without any pictures. If possible, someone should try and take photos of the school and upload them to Commons. CT Cooper · talk 17:52, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- This article is a list of athletic feats of LTHS but does not have anything much of actual real information. This school has a strong emphasis on sports (always had) and someone has edited it to reflect this. I have edited it a little to leave more neutral/less biased wording but it still needs a lot of work. There is no mention of the student newspaper or things like class graduation size. Is there a 4H club? Foreign language courses? What about the actual solid history of the school itself (first principal)? History of the mascot? What about photos of uniforms, the campus (fields, structures, stadium), maps etc.? Just actual information is needed. --Turn685 (talk) 07:53, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
Alumni Notability
[edit]James Richard "Ricky" Thompson Jr., murderer of John Goosey and Stacy Barnett was removed for not meeting notability guidelines however I'm of the opinion that someone who committed a local murder (for which there is a Wikipedia article) should be on the list of notable alumni. If there is any way to change this or make an exception by reaching a community consensus I'd like to know. --Colin dm (talk) 23:04, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
