Russian articles
[edit]In Russian wiki, there is a series of very nice articles about Bessarabian Jews, such as ru:Еврейские земледельческие колонии в Бессарабии (Jewish agricultural colonies in Bessarabia), etc. See ru:User:Simulacrum's user page for more. Those who can, want and have time, may translate them. --Yms 18:21, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
there is also Russian category: Категория: Родившиеся в Бессарабии - http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Категория:Родившиеся_в_Бессарабии Sorry - was unsuccessful with link editing... --199.203.116.98 17:59, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Vic-R
Earliest Jewish communities
[edit]There must have been Jewish communities during the early-Medieval period there since we know some tried to escape the pogroms in Ukraine. What is the evidence for it?--mrg3105 (comms) If you're not taking any flak, you're not over the target. 04:31, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Everything related to prior to 1812, when Bessarabia was annexed by the Russian Empire would logically be found by looking at Principality of Moldavia and starting from there. Before 1812, the term Bessarabia meant a much smaller area. About medieval Moldavia, apart from the traditional Moldavian and Genovese merchants, from 16th century, maybe even from 15th century on there appeared Greek, Armenian and Jewish merchants, and gradually small communities of these. Unfortunately, right now I do not have any hard evidence, but I'll keep it in mind. Note that medieval Moldavian sources refer repeatedly to "trade privileges given to Lvov merchants". It is logical to believe that at least some of those merchants were Jews. :Dc76\talk 15:01, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]I propose that History of the Jews in Bessarabia be merged into History of the Jews in Moldova. These articles largely overlap, and it is highly unusual to treat them as separate subjects. --Wiking (talk) 14:26, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Pre-Russian Era Bessarabia
[edit]This article doesn't seem to address much if anything that happened before the Russian Empire invaded Bessarabia. Given that Jews were there earlier, under Ottoman rule, it's worth a mention. Also, the article mentions the Jewish blood libel without mentioning that in the territory immediately to the north, which had close ties to the local population, had a recent history of Jewish participation in the arenda system, which has been associated with the programs in that region. https://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/kolomea/arenda.htm catseyes (talk) 04:18, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
