Move the PLA Navy article here and put a disambiguation page for ROC Navy?

[edit]

Have noticed that several media articles no longer refer to the PLAN as the "People's Liberation Army Navy", but simply the "Chinese navy" or "China's navy".

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/16/world/asia/china-steps-up-pressure-on-japan-in-island-dispute.html?_r=0 http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Naval arms race gains steam/7686238/story.html http://zeenews.india.com/news/world/chinese-navy-to-actively-maintain-peace-in-indian-ocean_817135.html

Given that the Russian Navy article is not titled the "Military-Maritime Fleet of the Russian Federation", and that the media description seems to be shifting towards a simple "Chinese Navy", I would vote to change the name of the article and put redirects on People's Liberation Army Navy, PLA Navy, and China Navy.

I cannot find any evidence that "Chinese Navy" is used more commonly than "People's Liberation Army Navy" or "PLA Navy" to refer to this particular organization. English sources from China itself seem to use the latter forms almost exclusively. As examples of Wikipedia preferring actual names of organizations, see Albanian Naval Forces, Algerian National Navy, Royal Australian Navy, Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Royal Bahraini Navy, and Bolivian Naval Force (and these are just the first two letters of the alphabet; see List of navies).
I would, however, support moving Chinese Navy to Chinese Navy (disambiguation) and having this turn into a redirect.--Jiang (talk) 00:14, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I think the disambiguation redirect route is the best way to go. Let's try it out for a week or so, and if other editors also like the change, we should look into putting redirects for Chinese Air Force and Chinese Army to PLAAF and People's Liberation Army as well. --Lostromantic (talk) 00:28, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Should Chinese Army redirect to People's Liberation Army Ground Force instead? "People's Liberation Army" refers to the entire armed forces, including the air force and navy. It could very well have been translated to "People's Liberation Armed Forces" or something like that but common and official usage prefers a more ambiguous name.--Jiang (talk) 02:25, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. The same should apply for the air force and the marine corps. 202.64.189.90 (talk) 08:12, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
