I will be picking up the review of this one - both for the Wiki Cup and the GA cup as well. I will be making my review comments over the next couple of days.

Side note, I would love some input on a couple of Featured List candidates, Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship and NWA World Historic Welterweight Championship. I am not asking for Quid pro Quo, but all help is appreciated.  MPJ-US  03:42, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I like to get this checked out first, I have found issues using this that has led to quick fails so it's important this passes muster.

Well Written

[edit]
Lead
  • There are 10 sources in the lead, sources should only be in the main artice, sourcing where the statements are made. The lead should recap the article, not state information that is only in the lead.
  • Deleted references from the lead.
  • "Nicola were taking a controlling interest" should be "Nicola took a controlling interest"
  • Done.
  • "suspended from mid-February 2014" should be "suspended in mid-February 2014"
  • Rewritten.
  • "Kayode Odejayi, while Ryan Lowe" does not need a comma
  • Done.
  • "Edwards was sacked after" - sacked is too informal a phrase for an encyclopedia.
  • I can’t agree here – looks like the word ‘sacked’ is common and quite encyclopedic for a football subject area, you can look through, for example league season articles or some featured articles like this. Also, I can’t see a widespread use of words ‘fire’ or ‘dismiss’ or any other word in this context here.
Background and pre-season
  • I am unclear on what a "Welsh International" is? What does the "international" moniker signify?
  • It means that player represented his country on an international level. It is quite obvious substitute for a too long ‘Welsh national team player’.
  • "renewal of his career at summer 2013" this may be a specifically British way of phrasing it, I would expect "in the summer of 2013"?
  • Done.
  • Same "From Mid-February" comment as the lead.
  • Rewritten.
  • "agreed a deal" missing something, "agreed to a deal"
  • Rewritten.
  • "John McMahon to stay at the club as assistant manager" should be "John McMahon staying at the club as assistant manager"
  • Done.
  • "who earlier was an assistant at Exeter City" should be "who had been an assistant at Exeter City previously"
  • Done.
  • "agreed a two-year" also missing the "to"
  • Rewritten.
August
  • Since I am familiar with the points system I know that the 1 point meant they tied the game, but that's not 100% clearly stated - anyone not that familiar with the sport may not know this. I would like this to be a "Good Article" not just a "Good Football Article", details like this is what moves to the fomer from the latter.
  • changed ‘one point’ to ‘a draw’.
  • "Nicola were taking a controlling interest", again "were taking" should be "took"
  • Done.
  • "in early 90s" should be "in the early 90s"
  • Done.
  • "the Championship side" why is "championship" capitalized here?
  • Championship is the second tier of English football. Added link.
  • "suffered first their league defeat"
  • Two things "Suffered" is not a neutral, encyclopedic term
  • Rewritten.
  • I am confused, the article just statement moments earlier they lost to Nottingham Forrets, was that not a league defeat?
  • Yes, it is mentioned higher that Tranmere and Nottingham met in the other competition – League Cup.
  • "clean sheet" - I assume this means no goals were scored on them?
  • yes, I am sure it is quite obvious again here.
  • "half time" should be "half-time"
  • Done.
  • "Janoi Donacien until January from Aston Villa" should be "Janoi Donacien over fromfrom Aston Villa until January 2015"
  • Done.
September
  • "Rob Edwards was sacked." - sacked, not encyclopedic
  • Look higher.
  • "back-to back" should be "back-to-back"
  • Done.
October
  • "Rob Edwards had been sacked" - "was fired"
  • Look higher.
  • "manager, while Alex Russell" does not need the comma
  • Done.
  • "goals scored by Gnanduillet" should be "were scored by Gnanduillet"
  • Done.
  • "up hamstring injury" should be "up a hamstring injury"
  • Done.
December
  • "goals cancelled Alfie Potter's opener" a little too informal a phrase IMO.
  • Rewritten.
January
  • "Year started" should be "The year started"
  • Done.
  • "started as Tranmere" should be "started with Tranmere"
  • Rewritten.
  • "First signings of the winter transfer window became Steve Jennings who returned to Tranmere on a permanent basis" should be "Steve Jennings became the first first signing of the winter transfer window, returning to Tranmere on a permanent basis"
  • Rewritten.
  • "loan till the end of the" should be "until" (twice)
  • Done.
  • "hence losing only one league game in nine." did they play those two teams mentioned 10 times? I am confused - they defeated those two teams, so only lost one game in nine?
  • erm, I added the word ‘last’ to the statement. I included this sentence to mark a good run of results during December-January.
February
  • "Another Rory Donnelly goal helped Rovers unexpectedly beat league leaders Shrewsbury Town 2–1" - I am pretty sure the other goal helped them win too ;-) but only Donnelly's goal is mentioned?
  • Rewritten.
March
  • "poor February form" is a value judgement, should be supported by a source that states that.
  • Rewritten and referenced. Is it the right way to include a value judgements into article?
  • "disappoining run" is a value judgement, if you were not a supporter it probably was not terribly disappointing if you know what i mean?
  • Rewritten.
April and May
  • "continued to remain poor" again not neutral
  • Rewritten.
  • "were bottom of the table" is that a specifically British way of putting it? I was expecting it to be "were on the bottom of the table"?
  • What are "promotion battlers"?
  • Teams, competing for promotion to a higher level league. Quite informal, so I deleted it.
  • "charge of first team" should be "charge of the first team"
  • Done.
  • "in penultimate" should be "in the penultimate"
  • Done.
  • "Omotola opportunity" should be "Omotola an opportunity"
  • Done.

Broad in coverage

[edit]
  • It's an article about a Football season, it's appropriate for that type of article Green tickY

Neutral

Sources/verifiable

[edit]
  • Reference 5 does not list the author, he is listed in the article
  • Author added.
  • Reference 15 does not list the author, he is listed in the article
  • Author added.
  • Reference 31 does not list the author, he is listed in the article
  • Author added.
  • 85 or so of the 105 sources are all primary sources, that's 80ish %. that's worrysome that the article relies that much on information from the club itself.

Stable

[edit]
  • Looks stable, it's a bit of a one person article it looks like, but with the season over there is not a lot of moving pieces. Green tickY

  • The article would certainly benefit from independent sources. But I notice that the BBC have changed their search facility to make this replacement much more difficult: you used to be able to, say, search for "Tranmere" between June 2014 and August 2015, ordered by date. I don't know if there's another way of recovering this behaviour. U 003F? 09:59, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Martinklavier: - looking at it's current state, if you can bring down the amount of references that are from Tranmere I would be happy to pass it, currently I am a little hessitant to do so. I am not saying remove them all, I think the 50% range is okay since this is not contentious material.  MPJ-US  21:05, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
