bias
[edit]as of now this article has NO mention WHATSOEVER of the Islamist ideology of the groups causing the trouble. To cover this event properly it needs mention of that factor. --86.135.181.189 (talk) 23:32, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- It does now: "The battles began on 26 July when Boko Haram, a militant Islamist organisation," AndrewRT(Talk) 23:23, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
A government report on the violence eventually came out that's allowed for a bit of background to be inserted. Joe.bav (talk) 17:54, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
400 people now reported killed
[edit]I haven't seen anything confirming this claim by "Civil Rights Congress" but if true, this article will need to updated shortly. http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/africa/07/28/nigeria.violence.deaths/index.html Menrunningpast (talk) 23:13, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
I see that this article was initially posted during and in the immediate aftermath of these events. There have since been a final death toll estimate of over 1,000. Joe.bav (talk) 17:23, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Article title
[edit]In my mind this article should be rather moved to "2009 Nigerian Islamic insurgency" or something like that, "religious violence" is just to vague, and as I can see it is only Islamists who has started and are activly involved in this rebellion, no other religion, only a response by government forces. -GabaG (talk) 16:44, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- yes, this is more a short conflict than just violence, however I would prefer 2009 Northern Nigeria rebellion--TheFEARgod (Ч) 21:18, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- This isn't "sectarian" violence either. Sectarian violence is where two (or more) sects fight against each other; in this case you have Boko Haram vs. the nigerian security forces plus christian civilians. There have, as yet, been no reported revenge attacks by Christians. My suggestion actually is that the entire article is just merged into Boko Haram. AndrewRT(Talk) 23:25, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- I agree on the "sectarian" thing, but not on the merge. The days of bloodshed are more notable that the actual group--TheFEARgod (Ч) 09:22, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

I suggest the article be moved to "2009 Boko Haram Uprising" since it is clearly not an example of sectarian violence. Boko Haram has since gone on to become a well-known group and a much more significant security threat, so I feel there is justification for using their name in the article title. Joe.bav (talk) 16:29, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- will do. --Johanneswilm (talk) 16:36, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
End of the conflict
[edit]There are no more reports of fighting, which means its over. Could someone put a referenced end date?

Suspected small typo
[edit]The second paragraph says “joint tax forces,” I assume it means task forces. I’ve never edited a page before so I didn’t want to screw it up. Also I didn’t do any research on if Boko Haram is in tax trouble. I thought mentioning the typo here would be best for now. 2600:8801:3887:6C00:C449:7311:5D73:2CB9 (talk) 11:05, 10 September 2021 (UTC)BuffaloRome
