Summary

Description
English: This is a type cut by Claude Garamond in the sixteenth century, his largest with upper and lower case. It was printed in the twentieth century using type cast from surviving moulds (matrices). This print image made from the type was held by graphic designer Jan Tschichold, the annotations are probably from when he designed his Sabon type based on Garamond's work. It was digitised by the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek as part of their digitisation of his papers. This isn't the full character set. I believe the image may be public domain in some countries because the type is over four hundred years old, but it's labelled as CC-BY-SA 4.0 because that's the digitisation licence. Image modification note: because the image ended abruptly above the first line of capitals I've (fairly crudely) edited in a bit more off-white border to give it more of a frame. Hendrik Vervliet particularly praised this type and his Parangonne size as "a culmination of Renaissance design".
