Metcalf Archaeology was involved in the project, including by performing a "intensive surveying" in 2020 of 352 properties that were candidates to be included into the district. This was asserted to be the biggest such survey ever conducted in North Dakota.[5]
It is one of only 11 residential historic districts listed on the National Register in North Dakota. The two other historic districts in Bismarck are the Downtown Bismarck Historic District and the Bismarck Cathedral Area Historic District.[2]
