The 2b2t Shop is an e-commerce platform launched in August 2019 for the Minecraft server 2b2t. The shop sells a range of various kits in the form of shulker boxes which contain in-game items.[1]. The shop is primarily used by new players to get started. The shop has become a significant part of the server's economy. The website is based in France and operates globally.
History
[edit]The 2b2t Shop was created by the player CAEC64 in August of 2019 due to the growing demand for in-game items within the 2b2t community. As an anarchy server, 2b2t does not have any rules, leading to a player-driven economy. The shop provides players with a way to acquire these resources, which can be challenging to obtain directly in the game due to the server's harsh environment.
The shop was previously on discord until February 28th, 2021 when the website was launched. The shop has been active to this day, outlasting all other similar projects[2]
Drone Delivery
[edit]Following the release of the website, Soiledcold began work on a virtual drone delivery system, inspired by the real life Amazon drones, using a combination of Baritone and Autobot[3]. On May 1st, 2021, 2b2t Historian and YouTuber FitMC covered story in a viral video. The bots were programmed to never go within 2000 blocks of Nether spawn, in order to never get killed.
Controversies
[edit]Economy Reset
[edit]2b2t's admin Hausemater had long been critical of item selling operations an on August 14th, 2023, he launched a server-wide "Soft item economy reset" in an attempt to take down 2b2t item shops. The update removed all duplicated items.[4] Following the update there was major outrage in the community, prompting Hausemaster to make an apology.[5] The server was rolled back the following day with all items restored.[6]
Antitrust Suit
[edit]On December 6, 2021, player EBSmc created a lawsuit in the United States District Court accusing the 2b2t Shop team of collaborating in a cartel with other sellers, violating the Cartwright Act. The lawsuit was settled out of court and no party offered further explanation or whether a settlement had been made.[7]
RANDAR Exploit
[edit]RANDAR is an exploit for Minecraft which uses LLL lattice reduction to crack the internal state of an incorrectly reused java.util.Random in the Minecraft server, then works backwards from that to locate other players currently loaded into the world.[8] This exploit was discovered by a 2b2t group critical of item selling operations and was used to destroy numerous stashes where the 2b2t Shop stored items.[9] In a viral video, YouTuber FitMC stated "tens of thousands of dollars in revenue were now sitting in their system" and that "they had managed to put many item sellers out of business".[10]
