Mary Budd Rowe and "Wait Time"
Hi -- I picked a women scientist at random off the women in science worklist and have started an article on Mary Budd Rowe, who, among other accomplishments, studied how waiting longer for a student to answer, and waiting longer after they stop speaking, increases recall, logic and reasoning with the material. Edit suggestion for Coursera page
Hello,
I've placed a suggestion for deleting a section on Coursera's talk page. However since there have been no replies to the older comments (since mid 2012) it was suggested to to me to place my comment here (the talk page of the WikiProject that follow the page) and ask for inputs.
- I'd like to work on removing this 'This article contains content that is written like an advertisement.' and as a first step would like to delete section named Partners.
Coursera already has the list on their own website and being a for-profit organisation I'm sure the list is uptodate at all times. So is there a need for this section in Wikipedia? Also to keep the list updated, one will have to continuously search the web for articles that announce new partnerships. Is there a need to do this for Coursera?
- Also I'd appreciate if someone could tell me which sections are written like an advert. So I could try to work on that specific section.

- @Roshni Kanchan, it's important to cover the company's partnerships if they're covered in reliable, secondary sources. To remove the advertising tone, I'd start with replacing all sections sourced to the Coursera website with reliable, secondary sources. Does anyone know where the discussion occurred that allowed for all of the subcategories that breaks up Category:Princeton University alumni by decade? I think it's a dangerous trend to set and makes navigation unnecessarily difficult. Jrcla2 (talk) 16:50, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
UNESCO Education experts suggesting open license text from UNESCO education publications that can be added to Wikipedia

American Field Service and Friends of France
There is an American Field Service (AFS) page which you note has multiple problems. I have notified my contact at AFS of your concerns. There is no Friends of France page on Wikipedia. A brief history of the Friends of France is given on the American Field Service page. The American Field Service evolved from the Friends of France. The Friends of France was strictly a volunteer ambulance organization during WW I. They had a 3 volume history published after the war. Of course, much of this material is not important today except to scholars. If I created a Friends of France page which would be more detailed than the AFS history would it be considered repetitious? I did suggest to the AFS that when my work was done they should split their page in two. The AFS did not come into being until after the Friends of France finished their work and ceased to exist. - Hi @Oldsilenus, we create articles based on their coverage in reliable, secondary sources. It would totally depend on what has been written about the subject in publications with reputations for fact-checking and accuracy (newspapers, magazines, blogs of similar stature, etc.) czar 17:53, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
Review of bigotry in many articles
Would the WikiProject Education teams, and editors consider helping remove bigoted articles (racist, sexist, etc) from wikipedia? This would be very helpful in ending racism, sexism, and other forms of bigotry that exist in Wikipedia articles and society at large. I have been blocked from editing on many occasions for simply trying to edit articles that reflect only racist, sexist tones. I now only add comments to the Talk Pages of such articles because I fear the bullies will block me again. This is no different than when dictators, etc squash free speech by blocking writers, burning books, etc, only today it happens also in the digital world and there seems to be no group protecting the free speech of non-racists, online. {{Infobox journal}} now features ISO 4 redirect detection to help with the creation and maintenance of these redirects, and will populate Category:Articles with missing ISO 4 abbreviation redirects. ISO 4 redirects help readers find journal articles based on their official ISO abbreviations (e.g. J. Phys. A → Journal of Physics A), and also help with compilations like WP:JCW and WP:JCW/TAR.
The category is populated by the |abbreviation=
parameter of {{Infobox journal}}. If you're interested in creating missing ISO 4 redirects:
- Load up an article from the category (or only check for e.g. Education journals).
- One or more maintenance templates should be at the top of page, with links to create the relevant redirects and verify the abbreviations.

High school links
There has been discussion at Talk:High school about the best destination for wikilinks which lead to High school and High School, which both redirect to Secondary school. Of course, High school has different meanings in different countries, many of which are not equivalent to Secondary school. There are also reasonable arguments for making High school a disambiguation page (or even a redirect to High school (North America) if that is felt to be the primary topic on a global view).
We've come up with a few suggestions but I'm no education expert, so I would welcome other views:
- Should we divert links to High school in a U.S. or Canadian context to the new article High school (North America)? I've already done a few but there are many more.
- We have some articles such as Secondary education in New Zealand. Should we divert links to High school there, for relevant countries?
- We have some redirects such as Secondary education in Australia (which redirects to Education in Australia). Should we divert links to High school there, for relevant countries? If so what is the best target for these redirects?
- Should we also create similar articles or redirects for countries which don't currently have them, and divert links there?
I realise that this will be a lot of work and may also cause some disruption. However, I think the result will be worthwhile. I'm happy to make some of the changes myself, with tools such as DisamAssist and JWB, but first I want to check that I'd be heading in the right direction and also ask for help with both the decision making and the actual editing. - @Certes, where do you want this discussed? Here? Secondary education in the United States already has its own article. Based on its scope, I don't see the justification for High school (North America) as a split. Is anyone claiming that the primary topic for "high school" isn't secondary school? If so, it's common to show the logic or other uses when asking other to participate. czar 01:50, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Certes, Thanks for bringing the discussion over here, the rationale may need to be explained a little more. The c&p of the September 3rd text gives alot of the details of the process but is short on reason.@Czar the short answer is the High School is half of one type of secondary education- four years of a seven/eight year process. A person only goes through one education system, and to them that is synonymous to secondary education. (Try telling an American that a middle school- is a bridging school between primary and secondary school for eight to twelve year olds, or nine to thirteen year olds! That is an issue that we still have to address) The High school system (à la US) remains mysterious to those else where over the world. Help with a draft?
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help with the drafts at User:Happyweekdays/Chinese students in the United States and User:Happyweekdays/Chinese faculty in U.S. I think that this could be a good topic on Wikipedia in general considering how many Chinese people are coming to the United States for education and/or to serve as educators, enough to where it would warrant its own article. Currently the student who is working on these topics (Happyweekdays) has students and faculty in two different articles, but I don't know if they could be merged into one article. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. This is a duplicate of a message I left at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Education in the United Kingdom#Gobbet. It is probably best to reply there, so as to keep the discussion unified.
The page Gobbet contains a dictionary definition, which was copied to wikt:gobbet in 2007. I am considering PROD, since there is no encyclopedic content on the page at present. However, I notice that "Gobbet examination" is used in some programs, especially in history. Is there value in keeping this article in Wikipedia? Cnilep (talk) 03:55, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

Teaching for mastery
Hi all,
I have recently come across the concept of "teaching for mastery". A Google search will throw up quite a lot of things like this. A lot of it is British and talking about how math's is taught in China.
There seems to be some similarities with mastery learning... but there is no mention of Bloom.
So my question is: Do we think teaching for mastery (a red link, at time of writing) should be a redirect to mastery learning, or should they be separate articles?

- Looks like User:Klbrain has merged it into National Equity Project "following uncontested 2016 proposal; same institution under a new name". Problem is that a discussion was never set up. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.

- @RoySmith, it's a neologism of a neologism. If the author has sources that cover the topic of "blended mobility" itself (and not just the several subtopics it purports to combine), there's plenty of room to expand within the existing articles. Entrance Examinations
Beset by constant "Exit" signs in my hotel and other places, I humorously decided to consult Wiki regarding "entrance" examinations. Had to contain myself regarding some of the complexities presented for the countries discussed. But did gain some satisfaction that the word "entrance" was still associated with education.
"Admissions" is appreciated but somehow links to testimony/plea in courts. The various cultural/historical ingredients of interpretation certainly come into play when choosing/deciding on translation.
When encountering the psychological reinforcement of public infrastructure, entrance would seem more common place unless most of your time is spent in the admissions area of a hospital.
A statistical analysis with metadata serving to correlate various usage of these two words would seem worthwhile. Regarding the discipline necessary for metadata correlates I use "circumstance, content and context". Content remains in the middle and exacts minimal disturbance. The notion of "cognitive &" (ampersand) replaces "dissidence" with the benefit of injecting symbolic reliance.
The root or original instance for this or related endeavors should remain "education" as it encompasses those held most precious. Even when they spread their wings and follow their own lead.
Western education
Western education is currently a redirect to Secular education. This has been nominated for discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2018 August 14#Western education about whether this is the best target and if not what would be better. You are invited to this discussion as your knowledge and opinions are likely to be valuable. Please respond there rather than here to keep discussion in one place. inaccurate language
"Adult learners fall in a specific criteria of being experienced, and do not have the high school diploma." is incorrect both grammatically and meaning wise. In fact, the single biggest predictor of adults returning to college is prior education. Ctskelly (talk) 01:38, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

For a number of years we have been experiencing a steady decline in the number of administrators as a result of attrition and a declining number of editors willing to consider adminship. Things have reached a point where we are starting to experience chronic backlogs in important areas of the project including noticeboards, requests for closure, SPI, CSD & etc. If you are an experienced editor with around two years (or more) of tenure, 10k edits give or take and no record of seriously disruptive behavior, please consider if you might be willing to help out the community by becoming an administrator. The community can only function as well as we all are willing to participate. If you are interested start by reading WP:MOP and WP:RFAADVICE. Then go to WP:ORCP and open a discussion. Over the next few days experienced editors will take a look at your record and let you know what they think your chances are of passing RfA (the three most terrifying letters on Wikipedia) as well as provide you with feedback on areas that might be of concern and how to prepare yourself. Category structure
I've been doing some maintenance on pages in Category:Education, particularly Category:Education in the United States. One thing I've noticed is that Education is a subcat of Category:Learning. I'm considering reversing that, so Learning is the subcat of Education. Any thoughts? power~enwiki (π, ν) 19:03, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

WikiJournal of Humanities published first article
The WikiJournal of Humanities is a free, peer reviewed academic journal which aims to provide a new mechanism for ensuring the accuracy of Wikipedia's humanities, arts and social sciences content. We started it as a way of bridging the Wikipedia-academia gap. It is also part of a WikiJournal User Group along with Wiki.J.Med and Wiki.J.Sci. The journal is still starting out and not yet well known, so we are advertising ourselves to WikiProjects that might be interested. |

Saylor Academy
Greetings! I am seeking editors to review a new draft of Saylor Academy in my user space and at Talk:Saylor_Academy#New_draft_available. For those not familiar with Saylor Academy, it offers free and open online courses. The whole article could use a rewrite, but I recommend we can start by developing a History section.
As a member of MicroStrategy's digital marketing team, I am the company's current sole representative on Wikipedia. Per Wikipedia rules of engagement, I will not be making edits to MicroStrategy-related articles and will be making suggestions on article discussion pages. Can someone with experience editing articles on education review this request?

(If in reference to Professional diving#Training and registration, I'd just remove the errant redlinks as they have no worthwhile targets. - Czar, You may be right, but I would have thought the concepts sufficiently important to be defined or described somewhere in an encyclopedia, not necessarily in an independent article, but at least in a glossary, and disambiguated if they have several meanings, so that someone who wants to know what they mean would have a way to look them up. It is not an urgent matter, and if I ever find sufficient content with reliable sources I will probably do it myself. I thought someone in this project might have access to good material. I will leave the redlinks unless someone can convince me that they are not sufficiently important concepts, or are sufficiently obvious to not need description, niether of which looks very likely at the moment, as they are commonly used in South Africa in education and training. Hello I am a medical doctor with interest in how medicine relates to education. I am not an educational specialist. We can see from EU guidelines and CADDRA guidelines that I have cited in social media addiction that this article is related to education. I will join the wikiproject if that's OK. I'll rate it high importance actually, please rerate it if it is not. I am requesting from help from related portals, Sociology and Anthropology have been happy to rate it high importance so far. In Social media addiction (also written in its current form by me mostly) the Psychology Internet Culture and Medicine portals are happy to have it rated low importance. National Association of Scholars - Your thoughts requested on Talk page
I created a section on Talk:National Association of Scholars titled, NPOV January 2020. Would you share your thoughts on the article there? (Or edit the article to improve it.) ¶ I read a Commentary in the Wall Street Journal Opinion section today that included this sentence: "Wikipedia describes us as a 'conservative' organization." That mention prompted me to look at the article. I did not know about the National Association of Scholars before today. I reviewed other Wikipedia articles about nonprofit (or trade union) educational organizations and none of them used an adjective denoting a political ideology in the article's short description or in the lede (introductory paragraph). Calling the National Association of Scholars a "conservative" organization struck me as neither consistent nor neutral. What do you think? New Article: Extended Education
Hello, I am planning to write a new article about extended education, i.e. all kinds of extracurricular educational offerings for children on a worldwide scale. The field is very heterogenous, but I am convinced that there is a need for one Wikipedia site that tries to sum up tendencies in different countries as well as similarities. Moreover, I plan to focus on research in the field, which has been increasing exponentially since the early 2000s (check Web of Science publications with key words "extended education", "extracurricular education" or "afterschool", the latter being mostly used in the US). Gender representation in academic ranks
I want to note that the accompanying picture of the entry 'Lecturer' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lecturer, which is a non-tenure track and sometimes part-time position, depicts a (anonymous) woman.
On the contrary, in the entry on 'Professor' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professor we see the pictures of Albert Einstein and Socrates as illustrations of what a 'Professor' looks like.
I suggest to remove Einstein as an example of 'the' professor, and balance out the pictures across the entries on academic ranks: have more women depicted as Professors and other tenured positions, and more men depicted as Lecturers or equivalent positions.
This is 2021 and there a lot of female Professors worldwide that can be role models for girls and young women in science and academia: Cite error: A <ref>

- Our advice for college and university articles currently says:
- Noted people – This section should give a sense of the extent to which persons with well-known deeds or highly significant accomplishments are or have been associated with the school (as by attendance there or by being on staff or faculty). For most schools this might take the form of a list of people meeting Wikipedia's notability standards (each with perhaps a very brief descriptive phrase), where such a list would not be excessively long. For very old, very large, or very prestigious schools it may be more appropriate to use categories ("Alumni of", "Faculty of", etc. note that "Alumni" categories are only for former students, including graduates; current students are not considered alumni) instead, limiting the explicit list to very well-known persons (heads of state, historical figures, etc.) and adding a narrative summary of statistics on such things as Nobel Prizes, other prestigious awards, and so on.
- This is not very good advice and we're long overdue to revisit it. For one thing, very few articles about U.S. colleges and universities have a "Noted people" section. A few have "Notable people" sections with subsections (e.g., "Alumni", "Faculty") but most have a "Notable alumni" section. In most cases, the only people that are listed are those who have Wikipedia articles and few or no sources included in this section. In a few cases, a few people are also included with a source but no article. The typical criteria for inclusion are (a) this person has a Wikipedia article, (b) this person has a connection to the institution explicitly mentioned in their article, and (c) some Wikipedia editor wanders by the article and adds the person to it.
- Those are the current practices and you'd be right in line with them if you followed them. We need to have a discussion about these sections, however, because these listings of random Wikipedia editor-selected lists of alumni do not serve readers well. We should have some criteria for inclusion that explicitly requires editors to take readers' interests into consideration when adding people to these articles e.g., what critical information about the institution is the reader supposed to learn from this person's inclusion in the article? In other words, these sections should not merely duplicate the "List of alumni of <institution>" list article that has all notable alumni. ElKevbo (talk) 02:49, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- I'd say faculty, particularly long-term tenure-track faculty, tend to have at least as much connection to an institution as alumni, so I'd say the short answer is that it's okay to have the section. But it's always iffy for any individual person to be WP:DUE at the level of a college, so keep the section short, which means for most institutions probably means only list people who are notable. Also, don't add a gallery. To speak to ElKevbo's thoughts, longer term I'd like to see us move toward more counts of people in various categories rather than individual names. I just stumbled across the article Cognitively Guided Instruction, which was written in 2007 and has hardly been touched since. All its references are written by a single group of authors. I would welcome input from this project on the question of whether this is a notable thing (studied by multiple groups, subject of sources not written by its inventors) whose article is poor but could be improved, or alternatively whether the current article reflects the best possible sourcing (in which case the article should probably be deleted). - @JayBeeEll:From what I can tell doing a quick research dive is that most of the research is by 2 small groups. The term itself seems very niche but the topic of critical thinking in mathematics is quite vast. Hi. I would like to remind you all that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in many countries last week. It will last until November 30th or December 15th, depending on the areas.
WSC is organized every two years, and people from all countries can upload files (the goal are the international prizes paid by WMEE and WMCH) but specific national pages are also set up, for example for the USA or Ireland or New Zealand. Such national competitions (when they exist) act as an additional incentive to participate.
We expect a sitenotice to show up for all readers here on enWikipedia as well, probably during the second half of the month when all countries with national competitions are open for submission at the same time. User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Hello. I would like to share a vision for a real-time fact-checking resource: Wikifact. I hope that the project is of some interest to those who contribute to Wikipedia in this education portal.

In the not-too-distant future, it may become possible for end-users to fact-check arbitrary portions of documents in word processors and Web browsers simply by selecting content, using context menus, and making use of crowdsourced, collaborative resources such as Wikifact. End-users would be able to select content from social media websites, news articles, digital textbooks, or arbitrary other documents and websites, and then open context menus providing options for exploring, e.g., fact-checking, the content.
I am hoping that more people will express interest on the project proposal’s website. I am hoping to publicize the project proposal. I am hoping to disseminate these ideas.

Holland Business College
This I at first placed on the talk page of the article on George Alderink. On further reflection I decided this might need wider notice. Do we know anything about Holland Business College. I think we have given up on believing every tertiary institution of learning is notable, but I am wondering if it might be possible to find some information and place it somewhere. Especially if it was renamed or merged in to some other institution later. Alternatively maybe we need a good article on Business colleges in the United States in the early 20th-century or some similar topic. There was another article on a business college in another place somewhere in the north-east US broadly defined (this might have been in Pennsylvania, but it may have been in Ohio, I do not recall for sure), mentioned in a bio with no article I came across recently. This is telling me that were lots of X business colleges in the US in the late 19th and early 20th century, many of which did not survive. Potential Article: Parental role in public education
Given the recent wave of activism in the United States by certain parents asserting their right to e.g. influence curriculum, monitor classrooms, and ban/challenge books, and that this movement is producing significant legislation and executive action shouldn't this topic be its own page? As of now, the article for Moms for Liberty, one of the most active conservative groups in the US attempting to influence education policy, links to this page to explain their orientation, which I think most will agree is insufficient (if not inaccurate) to explain the character and dimensions of this social movement.
Were I a more experienced WP writer I would be bold and make the draft myself. I may still do so, but I'm curious as to whether there's a known reason this has not been made into an article which I should consider before taking the plunge. --Gebble (talk) 22:33, 13 August 2022 (UTC)

I've seen this sentence structure used in a number of articles. Should it be used, and if so, for what other Greek Letter Organizations should it be used? The article on Wes Moore has "In 1998, Moore graduated Phi Theta Kappa from Valley Forge with an associate degree" (Phi Theta Kappa is a somewhat similar)

Peer review request for William McAndrew
At Wikipedia:Peer review/William McAndrew/archive1 I have an open peer review on the article William McAndrew, which I am hoping to elevate to a featured article. If you'd have any input to help me enhance the article, it would be appreciated.
McAndrew as educator who served most prominently as superintendent of the Chicago Public School system.
His ouster from the Chicago Public Schools is the most interesting aspect of his bio, and is covered in more extensive detail at Administrative hearing of William McAndrew. It is a truly bizarre circumstance involving a mayor levying accusations of disloyalty to America, making cartoonish accusations of McAndrew being an agent of the British crown sent to indoctrinate children and set the stage for a recapture of America by the United Kingdom.

I've been working on the article Competitive debate in the United States for a while with the goal of eventually getting it to Featured status and was wondering if anybody here would be willing to take a look at it. I have a few books on the very early development of debate that I plan on getting around to reading and incorporating but it's a deep topic so somebody else with experience in the community taking a look would be much appreciated. - I don't think so. In the US, it has been traditional for most college and university presidents to be (former) faculty members and to receive faculty appointments with tenure when they're hired as the president. But it's not universal; The Chronicle of Higher Education or Inside Higher Ed recently had an article about the small-but-growing number of presidential hires that have not included faculty appointments and tenure. Moreover, I don't think that many people think of "president" as being a faculty role - it's a position typically held by a (former) faculty member but it's a purely administrative role. For example, at my current institution, and probably all others (in the US), the president cannot be a member of the faculty union.

Unreviewed Featured articles year-end summary
Unreviewed featured articles/2020 (URFA/2020) is a systematic approach to reviewing older Featured articles (FAs) to ensure they still meet the FA standards. A January 2022 Signpost article called "Forgotten Featured" explored the effort.
Progress is recorded at the monthly stats page. Through 2022, with 4,526 very old (from the 2004–2009 period) and old (2010–2015) FAs initially needing review:
- 357 FAs were delisted at Featured article review (FAR).
- 222 FAs were kept at FAR or deemed "satisfactory" by three URFA reviewers, with hundreds more being marked as "satisfactory", but awaiting three reviews.
- FAs needing review were reduced from 77% of total FAs at the end of 2020 to 64% at the end of 2022.
Of the FAs kept, deemed satisfactory by three reviewers, or delisted, about 60% had prior review between 2004 and 2007; another 20% dated to the period from 2008–2009; and another 20% to 2010–2015. Roughly two-thirds of the old FAs reviewed have retained FA status or been marked "satisfactory", while two-thirds of the very old FAs have been defeatured.
Entering its third year, URFA is working to help maintain FA standards; FAs are being restored not only via FAR, but also via improvements initiated after articles are reviewed and talk pages are noticed. Since the Featured Article Save Award (FASA) was added to the FAR process a year ago, 38 FAs were restored to FA status by editors other than the original FAC nominator. Ten FAs restored to status have been listed at WP:MILLION, recognizing articles with annual readership over a million pageviews, and many have been rerun as Today's featured article, helping increase mainpage diversity.

But there remain almost 4,000 old and very old FAs to be reviewed. Some topic areas and WikiProjects have been more proactive than others in restoring or maintaining their old FAs. As seen in the chart below, the following have very high ratios of FAs kept to those delisted (ordered from highest ratio):

But looking only at the oldest FAs (from the 2004–2007 period), there are 12 content areas with more than 20 FAs still needing review: Biology, Music, Royalty and nobility, Media, Sport and recreation, History, Warfare, Meteorology, Physics and astronomy, Literature and theatre, Video gaming, and Geography and places. In the coming weeks, URFA/2020 editors will be posting lists to individual WikiProjects with the goal of getting these oldest-of-the-old FAs reviewed during 2023.
Ideas for how you can help are listed below and at the Signpost article.
- Review a 2004 to 2007 FA. With three "Satisfactory" marks, article can be moved to the FAR not needed section.
- Review "your" articles: Did you nominate a featured article between 2004 and 2015 that you have continuously maintained? Check these articles, update as needed, and mark them as 'Satisfactory' at URFA/2020. A continuously maintained FA is a good predictor that standards are still met, and with two more "Satisfactory" marks, "your" articles can be listed as "FAR not needed". If they no longer meet the FA standards, please begin the FAR process by posting your concerns on the article's talk page.
- Review articles that already have one "Satisfactory" mark: more FAs can be indicated as "FAR not needed" if other reviewers will have a look at those already indicated as maintained by the original nominator. If you find issues, you can enter them at the talk page.
- Fix an existing featured article: Choose an article at URFA/2020 or FAR and bring it back to FA standards. Enlist the help of the original nominator, frequent FA reviewers, WikiProjects listed on the talk page, or editors that have written similar topics. When the article returns to FA standards, please mark it as 'Satisfactory' at URFA/2020 or note your progress in the article's FAR.
- Review and nominate an article to FAR that has been 'noticed' of a FAR needed but issues raised on talk have not been addressed. Sometimes nominating at FAR draws additional editors to help improve the article that would otherwise not look at it.

Project-independent quality assessments
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class=
parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom

It’s a different approach to the curriculum that is being used in schools to address some of the factors that cause young people to disengage from education. It's knowledge from research and in my own work, it matters to me that the materials are free. I am engaged in the research and seeking opportunities to share the knowledge in parts of the world remote from me who may benefit from knowledge of how it works. - This was a useful pointer, thank you ElKevbo. After reviewing I would say I'm someone with expertise in the area, rather than being someone with a conflict of interests - e.g. my motivation for contributing to Wikipedia is to grow the community of researchers in my field of education. There's a note in the guide about sources. Some of the earlier drafts drew in more citations from other works but the number reduced when I was advised that Wikipedia articles tend to have one or maybe two citations per point. When giving multiple sources, my aim was to point to examples of published research about epistemic insight from different parts of the world. - Thank you for responding. Yes I am connected as I explained on my user page. This is the area of research where I work. It’s a different approach to the curriculum that is being used in schools to address some of the factors that cause young people to disengage from education. It's knowledge from research and in my own work, it matters to me that the materials are free. I am engaged in the research and seeking opportunities to share the knowledge in parts of the world remote from me who may benefit from knowledge of how it works. Draft: Teaching quantum mechanics
Over in the Physics Wikiproject we are gearing up for a total rewrite of our woeful Introduction to quantum mechanics. As this is a notoriously difficult subject to teach and yet of increasing importance I thought I would investigate what educators do in this space. To this end I read and summarized some articles into User:Johnjbarton/sandbox/teaching_quantum_mechanics. I didn't go in to the methodology reported in these papers as I believe that would only be of interest to experts.
I plan to create this page into the regular article space soon and I expect to add a bit more as we get into the details of our project.

- Wikipedia is a 'first place to start' when students want to begin to find out for themselves. One suggestion - I notice that there is a discussion about how much history of science to include in the intro. I suggest from an educational perspective - it's more inclusive to focus on the ideas. Quantum physics and astronomy are topics that can appeal to students broadly because they get our imaginations working. As a female physics graduate, now in education research, I'm interested in finding ways to introduce physics topics that reach out to all students. it would be interesting to create a group of 'critical readers' for a proposed new intro to such an important topic that includes female students and students in developing countries. - History is one path to learn but I think it has low value for most beginners. Historical presentation involves old terminology, old ideas that had some value but are not mainstream now, issues around the scientific process, and historical context that may not be known to readers. The actors in that era of science came from a narrow slice of society in Europe that many readers may not relate to.
- Nevertheless, there are some editors on Wikipedia who feel strongly that every topic worthy of Wikipedia will have history and thus history must be included in every article. Rather than start off with a big fight about history, I have been trying to improve the History of quantum mechanics and abbreviate the history section in the Introduction. Maybe we can position the history section later in the page and eventually the remaining content will make it clear that the history does not add value in this particular article. We've started an age where school and college students now have 'GenAI' to offer them instant explanations of lots of 'big ideas' and concepts. As a 'user' - of any technology - I have agency over my 'learning journey'. In that space, Wikipedia stands out as remarkable and important. In Wikipedia i can click on links that take me to pages / sections of pages that offer me concepts in context. I'm seeing pages by people who 'know their stuff' - e.g. if it's physics, it's content written by 'experts' who use 'grown up words' precisely - as good experts do. Perhaps Wikiversity is a good space for educators and physicists to collaborate to support learners – linked from the main page? Users can use the links in Wikipedia to navigate the content to build their own understanding and – in contrast with GenAI as it stands - the content is stable (except when science advances) so they can return and read again. Hi, I would appreciate a review of the draft article Draft:İstiklal Makzume Anadolu Lisesi. As I indicated on the talk page, I believe the prior reviewers were not exactly fair to the subject and did not consider WP:NEXIST fairly. High schools in the developing world are significantly underrepresented on Wikipedia. For instance, currently, there are zero Wikipedia articles for high schools in the Hatay province (out of, e.g. this partial list), which has a population equal to that of New Hampshire. Increasing coverage of competitions for school pupils
I am asking for the support of this community to move the following page from drafts to articles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft_talk:Baltic_Chemistry_Olympiad. That will help increase the coverage of chemistry competitions – one of the educational tools for attracting school pupils to science.
Wikipedia covers International Olympiads. However, there should be more pages to raise awareness. I have written a detailed overview of the Baltic Chemistry Olympiad, Competition, and Challenge. It is one of the oldest regional yet international competitions, which, over 30 years, generated over 180 peer-reviewed problems for training students and popularising chemistry.

Example of inadequately informed local perspective
Regarding the 2021 discussion about whether to delete the Invitational education article, as discussed here:
I would note that the early expressed perspectives of @User:DGG, @User:Trainsandotherthings, and @User:Athel cb reflected particular biased and academically uninformed views regarding educational theory and research, as presented in their comments and votes (which evidenced no due diligence on the question). That is, these voters undertook no investigation of the matter of article subject notability (as WP defines it, and other editors would go on to cite).
[To these editors—and those alike deciding issues on impulse—I would offer encouragement to greater investigative effort, and thus greater objectivity, before casting votes. (Who has time for such? Précisément—we all ought only vote when time permits objective evaluation.)]
To the benefit of WikiProject_Education, that article, the encyclopedia, and its readers, other editors did exhibit the commitment to due diligence, and thus arrived at the proper conclusion—that the subject is indeed clearly notable, even if, in fact, the article was poorly written and insufficiently sourced. I note @User: TipsyElephant and @User: Andrew_Davidson as particualrly noteworthy in their contributing to the debate and vote in a way that honours the encyclopedia and its Policies, Guidelines, and aspirations.
I write this as a former longstanding registered editor, now retired, and as a former academic, not in Education but in the "hard sciences" (in STEM), and as one not much a fan of most educational theorising (and thus, impulsively, in the same camp as DGG, Trains, and Athel). (One needn't agree or support concepts to acknowledge they exist and need clear and fair-minded description.)
[I would also state parenthetically that I've the very highest of regard for @User:Athel cb's comparable impulses with regard to "enzymic catalysis" (as it was termed by a late mutual friend), an area where I believe he'd never gladly have suffered superficial analyses by others.]

- I just took a look at the article – invitational education – and find that it is a shambles. Cleaning it up ought to be easy but my experience is that it would be a thankless task and would degenerate again. So it goes. It is on my watchlist so I shall await further developments. Feel free to improve the article yourself, but I have zero interest in the subject at this point, which I have not engaged with in any way for three years.
