Digest
editBeginning with our Q3 2015 newsletter, we will be including a new feature: a digest-style summary of the biggest discussions at WT:VG, the main talk page for our WikiProject.
Archived discussions
edit- Need opinions on plotsums – This discussion included links to some good examples of appropriately scoped plot summaries.
- Satoru Iwata & List of Iwata Asks interviews – Questions were raised about whether such an article was appropriate, but it was noted that the article was a great resource for information about Iwata and Nintendo.
- Humble Bundles category – The issue here was whether or not such a category made sense, with consensus being that it was not appropriate, as inclusion in bundles was not a significant characteristic of video games. The category was deleted.
- Disambiguation for visual novels – The question here was whether visual novels were distinct from video games, with many agreeing they were.
- Failed Kickstarter game projects – Most agreed here that Kickstarter projects should not have articles until after they meet their funding.
- Ratchet & Clank – One of the biggest discussions of the quarter, this was all about excessively large plot summaries. A major discussion about revising the project's plot summary guideline followed, with a new version gaining consensus.
- Should multi-platform Reception charts be removed? – Another large conversation, this focused on the issue of using single or multi-platform reception charts for video games, depending on how many platforms a game was release on.
- GameRankings and Metacritic gave it a score of X and Y – This discussion was about whether or not to include the percentage scores from aggregate websites in prose, and how precise they should be.
- Steam Spy as reliable source? – Tentative consensus here seemed to be that it might be used for estimates of ownership of games available on the Steam platform.
- JRPG template input – Consensus here was that the number of Japanese role-playing games would be far too large to include in a navbox, with a list article and category being more appropriate.
- List of characters and playsets – It was generally agreed that huge lists of characters and figures were not appropriate on every individual game article.
- WP:VGRS question – Discussion of new potential reliable sources for video games articles, with at least one (Kill Screen) getting consensus to be treated as such.
Ongoing discussions
edit- Potential alternative to Metacritic in the works – Discussion of a new website called OpenCritic for use as an aggregator.
- Pokemon species lists (a perennial discussion, I'm sure) – One of the most timeless subjects in WP:VG history, this discussion centers on deleting or changing the lists of Pokemon species.
