Accounts were created within two minutes of one another (see log 1, log 2, and log 3). Making the same recursive edits to Yishun Town Secondary School (adding spaces, and then removing them). The edits are definitely weird and suspicious, but non-damaging and technically not disrupting anything. But these accounts are definitely sock puppets... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:41, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Similar edits on early seasons of America's Got Talent, including edit comments praising ZOOperstars! over Neal E. Boyd!. Both have all caps user names. Sjö (talk) 06:47, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Checking the history of the America's Got Talent season 1-4, I see a lot of similar edits by different users, some of them before both of these users. Should I add them here or create a new report? Per Talk:America's Got Talent (season 3)#Season 3 information??? it's a known issue, so maybe there are previous discussions or sockpuppet investigations. Sjö (talk) 07:17, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This one is a little tricky since it looks like this might be related to this SPI for 贱仔忠. From what I can see, no SPI has ever been opened for Agt2008fan, so it might end up that they're the aforementioned account.

Just now I found the two accounts and the listed IP, as they both tried to create hoax articles for America's Got Talent, America's Got Talent with Phil Gulbis, America's Got Talent Host: Phil Gulbis, and America's Got Talent (3). This is in keeping with articles created by Agt2008fan, whose sockpuppets created articles on this show and Phil Gulbis. I also note that like Agt2008fan, they also seem to frequently put ZOOperstars! in their articles. That they're related to this account seems undeniable.

Now what makes me think that they're possibly related to 贱仔忠 is that back in May 2016 there were accounts that made similar edits with America's Got Talent and ZOOperstars!. I also note that Malaysian Super League LionsXII vs Kedah created an article for Gulbis months after From 12Aug, Sun 10pm did and the content looks to be identical. From 12Aug, Sun 10pm was tagged as a sockpuppet of Agt2008fan, while From the other was tagged as a sock of 贱仔忠.

My thought is that 贱仔忠 is one of the later sockpuppets of Agt2008fan, given that 贱仔忠 was created in 2015 and Agt2008fan was opened in 2013. I'm going to ping @Vanjagenije and Bbb23: to see what their thoughts are on this, since they participated on the SPI for 贱仔忠. Everyone here is blocked, but it would be a good idea to do a sweep for socks and to compare and potentially combine the two accounts, since it seems likely that they're the same person. I came across this group of socks via the article America's Toughest Jobs on 5, which was a cut/paste of America's Toughest Jobs but with some alterations to make it appear as if the show's host was another person, Josh 神庙. This seems by all accounts to be a hoax and an attempt to get around the salting at Josh Temple, where Zoo tried to create an article for this person.

All of the accounts seem to be engaged in the same activities in that they have all tried to create a hoax version of the article somewhere and to make edits like this one by Alvin in an attempt to change the host to Josh 神庙, requiring OlEnglish to temporarily semiprotect the page. If you look at the article history for America's Toughest Jobs you'll see that there was a mass, concentrated attempt to vandalize the page.

I'm not sure if this is one person or several, but it does seem clear that they are working in tandem, so at the very least this would be a case of meatpuppetry. I'm blocking all of these users for disruptive editing and tagging them all as suspected sockpuppets, but a sweep for any that I might have missed and a check to verify that they're the same person would be appreciated. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:22, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • The complete list of created or affected articles are as follows:
  1. Josh Temple, created by ZOO is not Neal
  2. Josh 神庙, created and/or edited by ZOO is not Neal, Choy Man Hen, ENG T-WU 4E1, THEIN THAN TOE, MOHAMED RAFIQ B MOHAMED T
  3. America's Toughest Jobs, edited by all suspected sockpuppets
  4. Talk:Josh Temple, edited by ALVIN NGOW FENG HAO
  5. America's Toughest Jobs on 5, created by ALVIN NGOW FENG HAO
  6. 三巴旺财神庙, created by Josh Temple
I think that's it so far, but I'll keep an eye out for anything else that looks suspicious. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:39, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I thought that this style seemed familiar and I now think that this is likely related to Agt2008fan given that Zoo's first edits were to Identity (game show), an article that was vandalized by an Agt2008fan sock. Agt2008fan has a similar habit of creating fake articles. I'm going to delete this and reopen this with the same information under the right name. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:48, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm going to wait and let one of the SPI people move this - I don't want to bork things up since I was the one who launched the SPI. In any case, here's a bit more to show how this is related to the other accounts: I had thought that this behavior seemed familiar and Agt2008fan has a history of creating articles for existing shows but altering details to add fake winners and a fake host, Phil Gulbis. This just looks to be their newest attempt. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:51, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also adding to the evidence is that Agt has a history of using Chinese characters in their usernames, which is mirrored in the creation of articles with these characters. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:56, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Maybe best to let the clerk/CU handle it from here, Tokyogirl79. -- œ 10:23, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • It looks like the SPI for Bobzz1133 needs to be merged into the old cases for Agt, as the edits for that account show a marked similarity to those of Agt, namely that the socks have an obsession with America's Got Talent and have created articles with the fake host name of Phil Gulbis. I'm fairly certain that this SPI is also related, as this group of socks mentions the Zooperstars, which Agt would frequently put in his articles. It looks like they weren't caught during the various sweeps for socks and whatnot, so it's possible that they're starting to do something to mask how they do things, or however the CU process works. Also belatedly noticed that one of the current suspected socks has "zoo" in the name, which shows that they're still sort of obsessed with Zooperstars. In any case, them shifting focus to a new show as their main focus gives off the impression that they're mildly trying to avoid detection, albeit mildly. All of these accounts have been blocked, with the exception of Tan Cheng Bock, as the admin I approached left it untouched for the purposes of this report. All are names of prominent Singapore opposition candidates/personalities. All of the accounts engaged in minimal disruption to the page, while leaving long rambling quotes as edit summaries. Due to the redaction, I am unable to provide diffs, so Admin intervention might be required. An edit summary left by the Kumar Appavoo account (earliest I could find) and the Desmond Lim Bak Chuan or Roy Ngerng Yi Ling account (one, I forget which as the edit summary has been redacted) makes reference to the Survivor series snuffing of the torch. I am not sure what else to do, but was recommend to file a SPI report here. Seloloving (talk) 06:59, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Typical behaviour: editing the same reality show articles (e.g. America's Toughest Jobs), claiming that they originated with MediaCorp Channel 5 and that Gerard Tham Weng Yun was a host (e.g. [7], [8]), using Chinese text in articles and/or edit summaries. Another group including three ducks who have added the same content to America's Got Talent (season 3): Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Teo Chee Hean, Tony Tan Keng Yam. Ong Ye Kung is less blatant, but the name is similar to some of the previous blocked socks, and they turned up to make a minor edit to the article two minutes after Teo Chee Hean and two minutes before JOHNNYJAZZLS. JOHNNYJAZZLS, finally, appears to be a good hand sock – the user name is indicative, and their edits after reverting the vandalised version are unconstructive in the same way as older Agt2008fan socks. bonadea contributions talk 11:51, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  •   Looks like a duck to me. All have been blocked as CU blocked, but without a sockmaster noted in the block log. This was after this report was filed, so therefore CU has been run. Based on the evidence it seems probable that they were all blocked for being socks of Agt2008fan. As such I've tagged them as proven as the CU connection was not explicitly noted onwiki. Close. Whole bunch of socks mass-attacking My Dad Is Better than Your Dad- usernames all similar to previous socks, similar edit summaries (such as this), and some also targeting America's Got Talent (season 1), America's Got Talent (season 2), and possibly other articles. Very much WP:DUCK.

All accounts originally reported at AIV by 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63. Magitroopa (talk) 03:48, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Two more added in to list as of today. One was caught vandalizing America's Got Talent (season 1), the other was caught vandalizing America's Got Talent (season 4), Talk:America's Toughest Jobs and Talk:Identity (game show). Both suspects conducted edits in the exact same manner as previous socks. GUtt01 (talk) 07:56, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've filed a WP:RFPP for some of the articles that were recently vandalized to have their current page protections increased from confirmed-edit to semi-protection. Might also recommend admins to scratch out the edit summaries of all these socks, as its clear they haven't learnt a thing about why we block their actions, and they clearly don't intend to stop acting in this manner. GUtt01 (talk) 09:20, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Request declined. While I'll accept on grounds that current protections may be working, I don't feel it does enough to dissuade the behaviour of the user of these suspected sockpuppets from acting in the manner they do. I would probably suggest a review if this continues in the coming months. GUtt01 (talk) 18:53, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries by Neo Cheng Soon here indicates similar past behaviour as Agt2008fan of abusing edit summaries on a game show article. Bai wan da ying jia, a Singaporean version of Who wants to be a millionaire hosted in Mandarin. Edit summaries are the lines in game show in Chinese. Editor CHUA POH KIANG displayed a similar trait while already being blocked for disruptive editing but on other type of game show, (Sheng Siong), and unrelated article. Vandalism and disruption picked up on my radar at Nee Soon East Single Member Constituency. Looking at the edit history, two users were both adding the same vandalism and disruption to the article at the same time and with the same edit summaries. I investigated to see if there were more. After some digging and finding more accounts, I connected them here after viewing past IP range blocks. These accounts will be indefinitely blocked and tagged; creating this SPI report retro-actively for historical and record-keeping purposes. It will be saved as 'closed'. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:13, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

See editing history for easy comparison to case notes. [13], [14]. CU requested as per sockmaster's habit of mass creating accounts, can be done later to catch more socks. Very clear WP:DUCK with same vandalism (including manual reverts) and usual article targets. Requesting checkuser given the amount of accounts/socks that are usually together (and if you don't know what I mean, check the archive). Magitroopa (talk) 11:18, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
