- File:Sculpture of Lillie Langtry visiting Langtry, TX Picture 1792.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs).
- derivative work; uploader does not give enough information to assert this is free. Magog the Ogre (talk) 02:27, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Not convinced that the work depicted here enjoys copyright protection. See commons:Commons:Derivative works#Isn't every product copyrighted by someone? What about cars? Or kitchen chairs? My computer case?. If the work depicted is {{PD-ineligible}}, as I feel it should be, there's no problem here. Angus McLellan (Talk) 09:16, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Shop dummies aren't sculptures and the posing and clothing are utilitarian. Could very well be {{PD-ineligible}} and thus there'd be no derivative work aspect here. See commons:Commons:Derivative works#Isn't every product copyrighted by someone? What about cars? Or kitchen chairs? My computer case?. Angus McLellan (Talk) 08:57, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- This seems to me to be to be a free licensed photo of a montage which does not qualify for copyright protection due to its industrial and banal components and utilitarian layout. The same components could produce an artwork, if that were the intent, but clearly it wasn't the intent here. See commons:Commons:Derivative works#Isn't every product copyrighted by someone? What about cars? Or kitchen chairs? My computer case?. If the work depicted is {{PD-ineligible}}, as I feel it should be, there's no problem here. - File:Arecibo naic big.gif (delete | talk | history | logs).
- The uploader claims that this is a NASA image. However it comes from [1] which in turn states, "Specific rights Apply." The subpage states, "All the images on the APOD page are credited to the owner or institution where they originated. Some of the images are copyrighted and to use these pictures publicly or commercially one must write to the owners for permission. For the copyrighted images, the copyright owner is identified in the APOD credit line (please see the caption under the image), along with a hyperlink to the owner's location." In this case, Cornell University. The NAIC website gallary says, "Note to the media.... You are welcome to download these images for non-profit / non-commercial use. For permissions and credit policies see our "media services and support" page. Please credit all photos with: "courtesy of the NAIC - Arecibo Observatory, a facility of the NSF" Racepacket (talk) 03:01, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- As with the museum pics up top, I can't see that there is a derivative work issue here since the object depicted is plainly not an artwork or work of artistic craftsmanship. And note that Commons has pictures of Steiff teddy bears. See again commons:Commons:Derivative works#Isn't every product copyrighted by someone? What about cars? Or kitchen chairs? My computer case?. - This collage is not eligible for the public domain, since the uploader did not create each individual image used in it; portions can be found at http://www.formula1.com/gallery/race/2006/, marked "© 1999-2010". Used only on one userpage (where it is impermissible due to nonfree portions), and not usable anywhere within the encyclopedia. — Gavia immer (talk) 20:05, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
