edit

  • Dates: Wednesday, October 25, 2017
  • Times: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm PST
  • Location: University Library 2021A&B
  • Please bring: Your enthusiasm! We will provide computers and information on how to edit Wikipedia.

What's an Edit-a-thon, and who are we focusing on?

edit

Edit-a-thons are a prime way to engage individuals in the creation and dissemination of authoritative and freely-available information.

Los Angeles is a mosaic of underrepresented communities and intersectional identities. Our Wikipedia edit-a-thon will focus on editing pages about the lives and work of activists, artists, scholars, and others from the Los Angeles area who are associated with groups that have been marginalized as a result of their ethnic, racial, gender, sexual, or religious identities. We seek to elevate the work of communities who are underrepresented on Wikipedia and elsewhere and draw attention to the important work being done in and around Los Angeles.

List of pages that need editing

edit

For those new to editing Wikipedia we recommend looking for articles that need references, in-text citations, or stubs that need expanding. For those looking for a challenge try those that need more substantive edits around language, bias, and original research. And for the Wikipedia rockstars we recommend creating an article from scratch.

Here are a few suggested articles to create or improve during this edit-a-thon, but you are welcome to work on anything you like.
