Shell Kinney (talk · contribs)
I am nominating Shell Kinney, formerly known as Jareth, to join the Mediation Committee, as I feel she would be a fantastic addition. An intelligent and thoughtful user, she is experienced and has the trust of the community. Her mediation efforts at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Banu Qurayza have been, in my opinion, fantastic and I support her unreservedly, hence this nomination. Questions from Committee members:
- What are the core principles of Mediation Committee mediation?
- The basis of mediation is to facilitate a discussion with the goal of fostering consensus among the parties. Mediation is voluntary, confidential and non-binding.
- Discussions during formal mediation are privileged; they cannot be used against the parties in later proceedings (e.g. RfArb/RfC). Why is that important?
- In order to put a dispute to rest, participants need to be completely open about their concerns; a fear of possible retribution later would seriously hamper real and honest discussion.
- What prior experience do you have in resolving disputes on Wikipedia? Please provide links, and how will these experiences help you to be an effective Committee member?
- Informal mediation: Design Methods, Confidence trick
- Juice Plus (1st mediation, Adverse Effects section, copyright issues, RfC on a major contributor, continued discussion) - I stumbled on to this article because of an RfC and stayed around to help mediate a solution between the parties; since the subject is controversial, I stop by from time to time to help get discussion back on track or remind the editors of policies they should be concerned with.
- Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Banu Qurayza - This is my first work with formal mediation on Wikipedia.
- A lot of OTRS involves resolving complaints, though generally, if we do it right the first time, there isn't much back and forth mediation; most tickets are common-sense application of Wikpiedia policy.
Mediation Committee:
- Support as nominator. Daniel 02:06, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support I'm impressed by her Wikipedia record as well as her performance in the Banu Qurayza mediation. If she can handle that case (and I believe she is handling it), she'll do just fine as a mediator. -- tariqabjotu 04:56, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support, good work. Shyam (T/C) 12:17, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Support, per Daniel's "nomination statement" (never thought I'd be saying that in a MC nom!), Shyam's reflection and Tariq.'s comments. Excellent work, and I'm more than confident Shell will be a beneficial addition to the Committee. Anthøny 12:23, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
