- File:SA295-CVR.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Socrates2008 (notify | contribs | uploads).
Non-free photograph of an (almost undiscernible) object being taken out of a box, in which most of it is concealed. The object being pictured may be of historical importance in the context of the article, but the image conveys virtually no factual information about it, therefore fails NFCC#8. FUR claims it is used to "illustrate the damage state" of the object, but it plainly doesn't. Fut.Perf. ☼ 07:52, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Please tell me that this nomination has nothing to do with this disagreement, as the timing of the nomination is remarkable.
- The caption explains exactly what the item in question is, in case this is not apparant to the reader. The image does not have to portray "factual information" - #8 is the only possible point of contention: "Contextual significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding."
- Reader's understanding in this case is increased through the following:
- An understanding that a FDR was successfully covered.
- The size of the item being searched for is readily apparent in the photograph (needle-in-a-haystack problem).
- The damage to recorder, which is readily apparent in the photograph, as is the fact that it is still immersed in ionised water after recovery. Socrates2008 (Talk) 10:52, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- None of these three cannot easily be described in text alone. Fut.Perf. ☼ 19:03, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep increases readers' understanding of the topic per nfcc#8 as described by Socrates2008. walk victor falk talk 18:44, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment The fact that it is the deepest ever salvaged black box (4900 m or 16,000 ft) makes it especially valuable. walk victor falk talk 21:25, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete - I don't need to see a wet and damaged black box to comprehend it's existence and characteristics sufficiently to understand all significant aspects of the topic. Text alone tells me that it was recovered in a damaged state. If it is truly necessary to show the physical size of the object then a free image (perhaps of another similar CVR) would amply suffice - Peripitus (Talk) 22:51, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
