I'm not disputing that the university campus is integral to Shepparton's society, and indeed, it really does need some mention in that article. I reverted your edit for two reasons - firstly, because it was largely incomprehensible, and really needed to be rewritten from scratch if it was to be kept, and secondly, because that level of detail would be much more suited to an article about the university campus. Perhaps you'd be interested in writing University of Melbourne, Dookie campus? In any case, however, please be more careful with your use of grammar and punctuation. Ambi 15:01, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
- Please read what I said before. I am not disputing that the university is relevant to Shepparton and needs to be mentioned in the article in some form, but rather that the content you added was incomprehensible and way too detailed compared to the size of the article (if your edit had remained, half the Shepparton article would have been about the university campus). If you want the university mentioned in the article, please try to place it in a broader context, use proper grammar, punctuation and spelling, and put the more detailed material in an article about the campus, as I suggested before. If you keep wrecking the Shepparton article because you can't be bothered taking care with your edits, however, expect them to be reverted. Ambi 14:18, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
- I'm happy for people to edit articles I write - I often ask for feedback on them. Moreover, I didn't even write Shepparton, Victoria. Your creation of Goulburn Valley was utterly incomprehensible and had absolutely nothing to do with the valley, and most of your other edits have been similar - putting in rambling and badly-written nonsense about your university's goals in mostly unrelated articles. I know English may not be your first language, but while you're on the English Wikipedia, you're going to be expected to write with at least some semblance of proper grammar and punctuation. If you're not up to this (which is entirely understandable - foreign languages are hard), then perhaps you may wish to consider the Chinese Wikipedia, where this would not be an issue. Ambi 07:52, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, someone has to. I find no joy in having to quarrel with people - it is the most unpleasant part of working on Wikipedia. However, we're building an encyclopedia, and most of your edits so far have basically trashed the articles they've been on. I think I've found one edit so far that hasn't needed fixing. All I'm asking is that you consider what the article is about before adding material (i.e. an article on the Goulburn Valley shouldn't consist entirely of material copied from a Melbourne University pamphlet about their organisational goals in the region) and take proper care with grammar and punctuation (which I've had to fix in nearly every case). Then no one will need to worry about checking your edits. Ambi 13:24, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
- I do not want to double-check everything you write on Wikipedia, Wai Hong. I also do not doubt that you mean well. I've tried to explain why there's a few problems with your edits on Wikipedia, as opposed to just reverting them, but it seems like you've just ignored me altogether. Ambi 13:50, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

Page Blanking
editOn 24-Jan, you blanked Idris Al-Mutawakkil Allahi Shah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Iskandar Shah Kasdallah. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I've reverted it to the previous version. If this was the result of a broken edit, you may wish to make the correct edits. If you believe the page should be deleted, please follow the deletion procedures. Thanks! -- JLaTondre 00:30, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- On 31-May, you blanked Cornerstone Church International. Please do not blank pages. It can be considered vandalism. Blanking is not the same as deleting and if you wish a page deleted, you need to follow the deletion procedures. -- JLaTondre 23:35, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Melb Uni Alumni
edit"Alumni" is not an Australian expression. Please change it to "graduates." Adam 11:35, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Not any more it doesn't. The term is not used in Australia and should not be used in relation to Australian universities. If you don't rename this category, I will. Adam 13:10, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Possibly so, but a well-informed opinion. I suspect I have been speaking Australian English rather longer than you have, so perhaps you should take my word on this. If the category has not been changed when I come back tomorrow, I will change it. Adam 13:27, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
It is true that Australian universities have started to use the word "alumnus" when referring to the collectivity of their graduates. They have copied such usages as "alumnus programs" from the US. But no Australian says "I am an alumnus of Melbourne University." As a Melbourne Uni graduate myself, I can attest that we say "graduate." Articles on Australian topics should reflect Australian usage. Adam 23:55, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
On another matter, Wai Hong, I want you to know that when you add a category like [[Category:University of Melbourne alumni]] to, say, Alice Garner, then Alice Garner will appear in the category listed under 'A'. In order to have her listed by her surname, you should type [[Category:University of Melbourne alumni|Garner, Alice]]. I am a native English speaker and I don't see anything wrong with 'alumni'. - Richardcavell 00:27, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Neues Museum Kupfergraben
editHi Wai Hong, "Am Kupfergraben" is the name of the street on the bank of the river west of / across from the Neues Museum (and it is actually the street address for the Pergamon Museum, which is beside it, so my guess is the Neues Museum will have that address too). The literal translation is 'copper ditch', and the machine translation put it in that way, but it should stay with that German name. (Just as no one translates a better known Berlin street as "Prince Elector's Causeway", they just leave it as Kurfürstendamm). I do not know why it is called that though. I will try to clarify it in the article and am also slowly working my way through the rest of what is there (thanks for noticing). Still need to double check Kabinettsorder (my guess is royal decree), cleanup some other stuff, and then there are big chunks of the original German article that are not yet translated that I may tackle. Kelantan River
edithi! I am impressed with your contributions to the Kelantan River article. I'm wondering if you're interested in writing articles on other rivers in Malaysia. There are very little articles on Malaysian rivers. Wai Hong 05:46, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your positive feedback. Actually, the Kelantan river is the only Malaysian river I've visited or have photographed. This article benefitted from the fact that I spent some time in hospital recently and had time on my hands - so I occupied myself by researching and contributing to some WP articles (hospital system wouldn't let me login, so my edits show as 213.249.221.34). But I'm not an expert on Malaysian rivers!
- Now I'm back at work, spare time is in shorter supply. But I'm sure there must be lots of other people out there who can correlate information from search engines, structure it, and then construct a well-referenced summary as a WP article. I must admit the satelite image was a bonus - I was delighted to find that World Wind showed the river up so clearly. Euchiasmus 20:55, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, the other thing I find is that when I'm trying to research for Malaysian articles like the Kelantan River one, a lot of source materials are closed to me because, as an Englishman, I have very limited understanding of Bahasa Malaysia. That's why I've abandoned some of the other Malaysian articles I tried to create. Euchiasmus 05:40, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Uploading pictures
editYou can check out Wikipedia:Uploading images. I don't think Google Maps can be uploaded under fair use, since they would be competing directly with Google. If we wanted to comment on the maps themselves, though, it might be acceptable. Using the maps to show the location of area competes with Google directly, however, so that would almost certainly be an unacceptable usage of the maps. Johnleemk | Talk 17:03, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi Wai Hong,
Thanks very much for the photo of the GPO :) It's excellent. I've uploaded a (slightly altered) copy of it on Wikimedia Commons as GeneralPostOfficePerth WaiHong.jpg. Thanks also for the photos of St Mary's and Perth Town Hall - the latter looks like it could have been taken on the same day as my one, and shows the new/old arches really well. Keep up the good work! :) - Gobeirne 10:09, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Malay Kings
editHi Wai Hong,
I changed two things in the titles: one was removing the honorific of "sultan", since the naming conventions of wikipedia discourage using those (see Elizabeth of the United Kingdom for example), and the other was formatting the spelling. If you feel that there is a "Malaysian" way of spelling, then that's fine. My formatting was making them conform to the international standards for Arabic transliteration. Most articles are named by people who don't know what they're doing with regards to Arabic transliteration, so I often try to clean them up.
Regardless, I'm not watching those pages, so you can do as you wish with them. Thanks for the message. Cuñado - Talk 16:35, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Wai Hong,
- Like I said, you can do as you wish. I'm only trying to clean up and standardize many hundreds of articles. I can't research every single person, because in most cases the pages are named out of ignorance. Cuñado - Talk 16:53, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Malayo-Polynesian languages
editHi, Wai Hong. I am glad that people are working on the Malaysian articles. Just a note on language classification: In the article Malayo-Polynesian languages you changed the name of the Malayic language group to Malay. That section, Ethnologue Classification, is descriptive of a particular classification scheme employed by Ethnologue. You might want to look at my comment on the discussion page, Talk:Malayo-Polynesian languages#Malay vs. Malayic, and at the actual classification at Language Family Trees - Austronesian, Malayo-Polynesian, as well as the main Ethnologue article. Good editing! Bejnar 20:52, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Masjid vs Mosque
editI prefer mosque since this is an English Wikipedia. If I remember correctly, there are already precedents on the matter - it concerns French and English name. I don't remember if the result of the consensus to use French or English word though. But if Masjid is already common, I don't see a need to change it. __earth (Talk) 10:05, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

re:Laksamana
editDear Wai Hong, I cannot say with certainty without looking to reference and at the moment, I am a bit hard pressed for time. But I can say however that in Malay culture, the term has been used generically, without reference to Malacca or Johor. In fact, in modern times (beyond Malacca and Johor), Laksamana means admiral. Ancient (or classical or medieval) meaning might be the same and IIRC, it just means war chief or something to that effect.__earth (Talk) 13:22, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Scott McGregor (model), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. 59.167.44.220 08:20, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Jintang island
editHi Wai Hong! Thanks for your comment on Talk:Jintang Island. I searched a bit for maps of the island so I can draw one to better illustrate the article, and I found something that made me curious. This image, and this one too show a road(?) leading to the island. However, google maps (you can also try accessing several map sources simultaneously with flashearth) doesn't show any kind of linking between the island and the continental shore. What do those lines mean in the maps? Also, I'd like to ask you what this page says. Maybe we can integrate information from there into the article, or the map I'm going to to do. I'll be awaiting your reply. Cheers, Waldir talk 18:18, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I added a request on Wikipedia:WikiProject China/Translation#General, I hope someone can help. Also, regarding the proximity, what I meant was that it was one of the closest to the continent (Zhejiang), not Zhoushan. Besides, "continental shore of Zhoushan" does't even make much sense, since Zhoushan isn't part of the continent, it's a group of islands, as far as I could understand... Proposed deletion of Graduate House (University of Melbourne)
editA proposed deletion template has been added to the article Graduate House (University of Melbourne), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Phlegm Rooster (talk) 21:42, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Reims, at last!
editHello, Wai Hong,
While editing the Reims article, I stumbled upon your 2006 question about St. Remi abbey. I just posted a reply you probably didn't expect any more!
Greetings from Reims! With my family, I take part into a hosting program, and I hosted so far a few Malaysian people. At this very moment, a young girl who studied and lived in Australia is fast asleep on our couch, just a few feet away from me. I must say the Malaysian people we hosted so far(all ethnic Chinese) were the most joyful and fun guests we had. Patch051 (talk) 05:21, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Taylors College
editA tag has been placed on Taylors College, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Frmatt (talk) 04:04, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi. I've been noticing User:Eby5arz's edits just today and found his edits appear to be centered primarily around blanking information that aren't in favour of pro-ruling government views, all while doing it without edit summaries. There were a few cut articles which I have only managed to revert recently, and I have a hunch, based on Eby5arz's editing pattern, that he'll be back for another round of blanking in the coming months. There really isn't much grounds to go after him for now, but perhaps it might be a good move to keep an eye on him. I'll do too. Thanks. - 60.50.255.23 (talk) 13:37, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I have created this new page about the shooting death of Aminulrasyid Amzah which has been in the news in Malaysia recently. Would appreciate your suggestions and feedback in improving this article. WikiProject Malaysia Update
editHere's a brief update on the latest... :-
- I've transcluded the new members list to the prior existing members list. There's a redirect on the new members list page to the actual members list.
- I've compiled the list of feedback given here and placed them on a plan page. Please do go and take a look at them. For the suggestions to be carried out, we need volunteers. At the bottom of the plan page, there is a Volunteer section. Please add your name and include which area you would like to volunteer in.
If you have any questions or comments please leave them here. On behalf of WikiProject Malaysia, BejinhanTalk 09:46, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
editHello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 01:12, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi, At last month's June meetup we discussed the idea of setting up a Training Course at a University of the Third Age (U3A) to be held in 2013 and named Becoming a Wikipedia editor. In order to get this course up and running we are calling for volunteers to help develop the idea, and either tutor part of the course, or provide one on one help to students in the class. All local Wikipedians are welcome to discuss this at our 11am meetup to be held this Sunday on 22 July. Please add your name to the attending list at Wikipedia:Meetup/Melbourne 23. Food and beverages are provided. Cuddy Wifter (talk) 05:13, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Meet-up: Editors from Malaysia
editHello! You might or might not have seen me around here as I've not been active in Wikipedia the past few months. Before leaving for NS, it was my intention to form a Malaysian user group. I'm still very much interested in forming the group. However, before forming the group, I would love to organize a meet-up between editors of the Malaysian editing community to test the waters and hear what you guys might have to say. To my knowledge, there has not been a Wikipedia meet-up in this country before. I don't mind organizing the meet-up but need to know if anyone is interested in joining the meet-up. So... please reply and let me know if you would be interested in joining a meet-up and your ideas/thoughts about a user group. Thank you.
Looking forward to hearing from you, Bejinhantalks 12:25, 15 December 2012 (UTC) (Message delivered by EdwardsBot (talk) 12:25, 15 December 2012 (UTC))

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Schools in Ipoh
editA tag has been placed on Category:Schools in Ipoh requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —swpbT 13:45, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Medleys, University of Melbourne Medical Revue requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, society, or group, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
