Image without license

Unspecified source/license for File:Beach Boys Meme.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Beach Boys Meme.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 08:45, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Image source problem with File:Beach Boys Meme.jpg

edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Beach Boys Meme.jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:00, 19 September 2021 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 00:00, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

About the "Beach Boys Meme"

edit

@Whpq: "This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work."
Yes, I KNOW the image is a derivative work. It was created using Imgflip and a screenshot of the Beach Boys performing at The Ed Sullivan Show. As far as I am concerned, fair use law does not forbid people from uploading screenshots of famous people to use for non-commercial purposes. But I don't know how to add the template that it is fair use. So, can you add it for me or make another editor do it? Cheers. TootsieRollsAddict (talk) 03:35, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia does not allow fair use images. Instead, it has a stricter standard for non-free content. Any such content must meet all of the non-free content criteria. I do not believe your image would meet these criteria. The use on your user page would contravene WP:NFCC#9. The use in article space at Motivational poster does not meet WP:NFCC#1 since there are freely licensed images in use there, and also fails WP:NFCC#8 as the image is just there with no significant sourced commentary about it. I suggest you tag it yourself for deletion by applying {{db-author}} to the image. -- Whpq (talk) 12:01, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
OK, you can get rid of it. But how about my user page? Can I keep it THERE, at least? TootsieRollsAddict (talk) 12:24, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
No. -- Whpq (talk) 12:26, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and unrelated: I have found that the photo was in the public domain. Now, can I request it for undeletion? TootsieRollsAddict (talk) 05:31, 20 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Mariposa Military Base F01.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Mariposa Military Base F01.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 11:08, 20 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Haitian migrant round up.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Haitian migrant round up.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Haitian migrant round up.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Haitian migrant round up.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of https://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/news-photo/united-states-border-patrol-agent-on-horseback-uses-the-news-photo/1235368815?adppopup=true. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Orphaned non-free image File:Fallout talking heads.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Fallout talking heads.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:31, 24 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Anatoliy Golitsyn.jpg

edit

Please do not create hoaxes on Wikipedia, as you did at File:Anatoliy Golitsyn.jpg. Doing so is considered to be vandalism and is prohibited. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method would be to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia—and then to correct them if possible. If you would like to make test edits, please use the sandbox. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges.

File permission problem with File:Figgess report confesstion.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Figgess report confesstion.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 02:24, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Life-magazine-indian-soldier.PNG

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Life-magazine-indian-soldier.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 03:15, 12 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Tourism in Estonia

On 24 October 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tourism in Estonia, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a newly opened ferry in 1968 attracted "vodka tourists" to Estonia? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tourism in Estonia. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Tourism in Estonia), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Proposed deletion of File:Latvia blackheads.jpg

edit

The file File:Latvia blackheads.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Small, unused. Superseded by files at c:Category:House of Blackheads (Riga).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 03:08, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
