- A texan who moved away to OU - it breaks my heart. At least you still love Blue Bell ice cream. Seriously, I see from my watchlist that you have taken a little swing through UT related articles. I reverted your changes to Texas Longhorn Athletics because we have discussed this issue of biggest rivals and reached a consensus. Part of the Talk history is on that page, part of it is on the main UT talk archives. I left all your other changes. If I may ever provide any sort of assistance here, please let me know. I'll gladly help you bring the OU article up to speed if you want. Right now, some of us are helping out the poor aggies. :-) Hook 'em Horns! Johntex\talk 08:13, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- "Burnt Orange Wikipedia Platoon" - I like the sound of that. It would be a good name for a Wiki-Portal, I think. I have made a few edits to OU and to Oklahoma Sooners. There wasn't even a mention of the Ruf/Neks. I hope my changes pass judgement. I'm getting tired, so I'm off to count Bevo's jumping over fences. I'll see if I can contribute more another day. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:OU-tx2006.gif
editThank you for uploading Image:OU-tx2006.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:09, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Prof. Hojo
editHi there!
One of our fellow editors WhiteArticleWolf reverted your addition to the Hojo section of Characters of Final Fantasy VII. This was because it was a personal opinion and therefore original research...anyway interested idea but I think that even though Hojo may have been responsible for the creation of Seph and the Jenova project he didn't really maintain control over the events...Gavin (talk) 03:15, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Again I certainly see your point but you could say Hojo's experimentation was brought about by Prof. Gast, whose research was only possible because of Jenova falling from the skies...therefore it is Jenova, not Hojo, who is the main antagonist. She is certainly one of the most vital characters in the whole series. It is her legacy which motivates Sephiroth to do what he did. It is her legacy which creates the geostigma and events of Advent Children. She is the one who set everything into moition! Or is she? What about the Shinra Company? Was it not their desire to advance their knowledge of Mako and the Cetra which provided Gast and Hojo the apparatus to study and experiment and so on? If not for the Shinra, Jenova may never have been discovered...Gavin (talk) 04:32, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm just looking back at your original post- "he really is the result of events set in motion by Hojo" this is true but I don't think that because Hojo started a process he is responsible for all the things the product of that process went on to do....if we start with the action and then work backwards we get this:
- "Sephiroth did C"
- BUT
- "Hojo did B"
- WHICH LED TO
- "Septhiroth did C"
- THEREFORE
- "Hojo's B created Sephiroth's C"
- THEREFORE
- "Hojo is responsible for C"
Now this works I suppose until we perhaps add in-
- "Gast did A"
- WHICH LED TO
- "Hojo Did B"
- ...
and so on you, get the idea. So in this sense, is Hojo worthy of being considered the main antagonist? I don't think so. You then go on to say "While Hojo doesn't control Sephiroth's actions, per se, those actions certainly meet his motivations, being "let's see what happens when we inject these cells into a human fetus"." I would argue otherwise- Sephiroth was an experiment that Hojo had little idea of what to expect from and he certainly didn't have any ability to control it. Therefore in this sense Hojo cannot be considered to have a role in much of the events of FFVII other than that he started it- pretty much its like saying Cloud's father is the main protagonist...well almost :p.
"While the game tends to cast Hojo's actions as being in a "helper" role, they're really more guiding the action of the course of the game." I don't really see that though...I think he is certainly present but he doesn't interfere expect when he force fires the Mako Canon- but that may and probably would have happened anyway.
For your second reply, was Hojo willing to let Sephiroth run amock? Yeah he was- but only out of the curiosity to see what he would do- he didnt have a master plan and didn't guide what Sephiroth did.
As for Jenova, was she just a force of nature? I'm not so sure- however if we run with that idea and suppose her role was purely passive we could consider another option:
Sephiroth really is the main antagonist! The result of an experiment carried out by Hojo yes but he was a perfectly stable member of SOLDIER until the incident at Niebelheim when he learned about how he was the subject of a biological experiment. He is the one who researched the Jenova experiment (Hojo never gave him the books, nor did anyone else). Indeed he is the one who chose to take Jenova on as a mother and carry out his plot to reclaim the world for "the ancients". At this point I think its fair to say that Sephiroth is the one who chose to act in the way he did, he was not pushed or prodded by anyone else- not even the man who engineered him.
Yet, what about the black materia? Who gave Sephiroth the idea to use it to call a meteor? There are two possibilities, either he discovered it himself or Jenova influenced him to get it. Overall I am unsure- but I think the evidence suggests that Sephiroth was largely in control of what he did- Hojo's role was minimal, Hojo was as Rufus said "a second rate scientist."
