Thanks for clearing that up on my coaching page :) Now you've made me curious, what was this incident? If you'd rather tell me later I'm all ears - WP talk pages, email, Gtalk, I'm on all of em.

Can I ask you a question - how many hours have you been editing today? I see you everywhere, and judging from your timestamps, all the time too! :P xC | 13:31, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Holidays! Nothing but Wikipedia, concerts, and a lot of reading :) Gtalk's fine - [email protected] Cheers, Riana (talk) 13:33, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sounds like good times to me :) Alright, see you on Gtalk soon then, I have to go pickup my sister from her dance class now. Cheers!xC | 13:39, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Editor review

edit

Hi Riana, feel free to give me an editor review at Wikipedia:Editor review/SunStar Net 3 - I'd appreciate the advice. It's interesting to see the main page article being semi-protected: doesn't this violate WP:NOPRO or is it a WP:IAR being carried out??

Anyhow, hope you're OK!   SunStar Net talk 17:51, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Hey there! On the main page thingy, because it was Islam, it was decided on WP:AN to semi-protect the article for once. Just this once! I'm a notorious non-protectionist, as Riana would attest, and I actually agree to the prot on this one! Good luck with your editor review - Alison 18:00, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Page protection

edit

I don't know if University of California, Riverside and related pages should be protected in any way by SummerThunder's sock's? Although that won't stop him from the other vandalism he has done. Momusufan 05:21, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

You mean, fully? He uses sleepers some of the time, so semiprotection won't help (although some of them are), and frankly I don't want to shut out a bunch of articles just because of one troll with a mania. ~ Riana 05:23, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I guess just blocking them is the only way, since he's just gonna keep doing it again and again. Momusufan 05:24, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah. Well, you guys do a lot of good work keeping an eye on them, so we should be fine :) ~ Riana 05:26, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

My RfA

edit

Thank you for participating in my RfA. It was successful, and I am now, may God have mercy on us all, an administrator. Look at all the new buttons! I had heard about 'protect,' 'block user,' and 'delete,' but no one told me about 'kill,' 'eject,' and 'purée.' I appreciate the trust the community has in me, and I'll try hard not to delete the main page or block Jimbo. -FisherQueen (Talk) 17:55, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

A question about semi-protection

edit

Hi Riana. Not sure who to ask but I'm sure you'll have thoughts on this... I'd like to propose semi-protection of all 366 pages corresponding to calendar dates. I guess my question is two-fold. First, do you think this makes any sense? Secondly, even if you do think it makes sense, you and I just can't decide this without consulting a wider audience, so where do you think that discussion should take place? Village pump perhaps? In any case, let me quickly state my case if you're skeptical of such a move. First, all of these pages are heavily vandalized. Of course, the volume of vandal edits is fairly low but the ratio of constructive edits is dramatically small. Case in point: January 22 (random choice). There have only been 50 edits in the past two months, more than 40 of which are vandalism or reverts. The other 10 are minor touch-ups performed by established accounts. Moreover, these pages are heavily watched so any talk page request for an edit would be quickly implemented. Anyways, you are, I believe, fairly active at RFPP so your thoughts on the subject would be much appreciated. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 18:09, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I started a pump discussion. Your input would be appreciated. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 04:57, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

My recent RfB

edit

Thank you so much for your participation in my recent RfB. Though it only 72% of the community seemed to approve of my previously secret "sysop Willy on Wheels" plan, I'm confident that I can achieve 'crathood in a few months, and we can all enjoy having a freshly anointed Willy on Wheels admin and bureaucrat.

I'm currently tabulating and calculating all opposing and neutral arguments to help me better address the community's concerns about my abilities as a bureaucrat. If you'd like, you can follow my progress (and/or provide additional suggestions) at User:EVula/admin/RfB notes. Thanks again! EVula // talk // // 04:08, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for deleting Reeses Peaces. I wasn't really sure what that was. I knew it was WP:NOT, but I wasn't really sure if it was eligible for speedy deletion. Hornetman's draft

edit

I agree, it's still an annoying page. All he's really done is remove the flags, from what I can see. Now I know my user page isn't exactly pretty, but the colors on his page are not only bad for looking at, but also most of the text is nearly unreadable. Having 9 userboxes right at the top is definitely inappropriate, as is almost all of the content south of his infobox, I see nothing in that that doesn't make me think of myspace. As I've said, I have no problem with him stating his religion on his page, but it's over the top as it is, and that large flag needs to go, as does the potential soapboxing above it. I'd much rather see him have a column of user boxes under his info box (such as my page has) about his religion, or even a short (one-two paragraph) non-soapboxing explanation of his beliefs and what he does on wikipedia (sort of like User:Pastordavid's)... Perhaps it would be best to have him get a myspace, and move his personal opinions and beliefs there, and allow him a Myspace userbox and/or external link, and have him keep his userpage for wikipedia ONLY? --ʇuǝɯɯoɔɐqǝɟ 01:36, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am the sock of Fruglefannie who insists that Lucille Ball is alive. I am rehabilitating myself and just edited that Ms. Ball was rumored to be alive but that she was not. This is a start. I promise not to do it again. It's also a start that I didn't say she was alive. Will you allow me to edit. I promise not to edit on Lucille Ball either being alive or that there is controversy that she is alive. Ok? Botrag 04:52, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I haven't blocked you, so I'm not sure what you mean by not being allowed to edit. I just reverted your addition because it's unnecessarily self-referential. Okay then, I just deleted a page called Thinkking media, and there was a user of the same name. I did a search on the user's name, and found a site with that name, so I blocked the user for their name. Was this the correct thing to do? There's also an image they uploaded called Image:Final 4C Logo ThinkkingMedia.jpg, which is also from that site. What do I do about the image? Do I delete it as a copyvio? Vandalism

edit

It has come to my attention during one of my frequent consultations of your oh so useful wikipedia that the user with the ip 217.34.46.52 has been vandalising some threads with ridiculous alterations to the original content of the articles. The one i stumbled upon was concerning the greek mythology character Camilla, whose description seemed somewhat... um... inaccurate hehe.

Thanks for tanking time to look into the matter.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, the user has not vandalised in the past few days so I won't block, but I'll keep an eye out. You can warn users using one of the templates here and report them here where an admin will take care of them. Cheers, ~ Riana 00:10, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Riana; you did not leave a message on the talkpage of user:She made love to my cock, which you very reasonably indefblocked. I have put the standard template message on; hope you don't mind.--Anthony.bradbury"talk" 00:21, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not at all. I never leave messages because the page gets deleted anyway and the only message they need to see is in their block log, but it's fine if you do ;) ~ Riana 00:25, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
(Sorry to interrupt) Yes, they do get deleted; most of my deletions have been in CAT:TEMP. That place is indefinitely backlogged (more so than CSD), and as I said in my RfA, it needed more administrative attention. I become a sysop, and bingo! It gets that attention! :) Acalamari 00:34, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey there

edit

I was wondering - how can an editor start a new WikiProject? I wanted to propose a new project, for translation of featured articles in other languages into english (or viceversa, as the case may be).

I got the idea looking at the page Erythropoietin, which is a featured article in the Dutch WP - here's the link. If we could simply translate the article, if not an FA, we could definitely have a GA. Has this been proposed before? What do you think about this idea? I'm quite sure that there's a large number of editors bilingual fluent in german, french, etc. This could be a good means of improving the content, with one significant advantage - text all written, images (majority of them) already comply with the required policies, layout, headings, check check - what do you think, is it feasible?

Appreciate your feedback,xC | 11:09, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's a good idea, although WikiProject Echo is very similar to your proposal. If you want some help with translations, you could head off to Wikipedia:Translation... Cheers. --Dark Falls talk 11:21, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks DarkFalls and Riana, you're both right WP:ECHO does something similar. I'll go about looking for willing translators then... thanks for pointing me the right way. Cheers!xC | 14:50, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Riana, earlier today I was going to revert some massive vandalism to your page by User:81.132.214.215, but ElinorD beat me to it. Massive as in 100 KB of "QST IS INNOCENT" in headlines on your talk page. I'd include a diff link, but it just makes my browser freeze for some reason, and I don't want the same thing to happen to you. I don't know if you were aware of this, but I thought you should know. Based on what the anon has done and said, I don't know whether the page should be added to Qst suspected socks or Molag Bal's list.
After looking at the history of how this situation came about, I'm just very puzzled at how a failed RfA turned out like this, but I'm not surprised at the indefinite block after seeing Qst's subsequent behaviour. --Kyoko 13:22, 7 July 2007 (UTC), modified 13:24, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Update: User:Qst's block was reduced back to the month-long duration that you had originally set. Like I said, I'm just very puzzled at seeing how this all started, and disappointed too. --Kyoko 15:47, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

There was recently an IP (86.148.189.170 (talk · contribs)) that was vandalizing user/user talk pages. One of the edits replaced User talk:Daniel with "QST IS INNOCENT". Also, the IP made an 85,000 byte change to User talk:Pats Sox Princess, flooding the page with "no" headers. Shortly after being blocked for 48 hours, the IP posted an unblock request on it's talk page with the reason "Well it might anger me to vandalise more being insulted, please read WP:DFT". I thought you might want to look into this to see if Qst is using IP socks again. Even with the "innocent" edit, I was skeptical about whether or not Qst was behind the IP. The unblock reason sounds, however, like the user has had a lot of experience with this. Just thought you'd like to know :-) --NickContact/Contribs 17:15, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Nick and Kyoko, the matter is under discussion. ~ Riana 06:38, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposed name change

edit

There is again a proposal for changing the title of Language Movement to "Bangladesh Language Movement" or "Language Movement of Bangladesh". Please comment in the talk page of the article. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:08, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

My RfA

edit

Thank you for your comments in my recent RfA. However, it was unsuccessful. I am in no way disheartened, and I am working on all the constructive critisism I have received. Hopefully next time I will have sorted out everything you pointed out. If you have any further suggestions or comments, feel free to drop me a line on my talk page, and I will be happy to respond. Hello, Riana/Archive 27! You have been given this message in recognition of all you have done for Wikipedia, and also just for being you. Wikipedia's greatest strength is its contributors, and you are a valued and important part of that. I hope that this message has brightened your day, and that it encourages you to spread the WikiLove. Thanks again for your contributions, and have a good day!

Hi Riana, I thought you might need some encouragement after having your recent admin actions questioned on WP:ANI. I have no doubt at all that you did what you thought was right, and that you only had the best interests of Wikipedia in mind. I think it was a sign of good judgement on your part that you chose to bring up the Qst block to ANI for outside review, when you could just have easily just let it remain unnoticed amidst all the other blocks that happen every day on Wikipedia. Please don't be discouraged by the criticism that you have gotten. I can't speak for anyone else, but I still think you're doing a good job as admin. Love, Kyoko 17:07, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Riana? I sent you an E-mail yesterday. I am not really sure if you recieved it yet. King Lopez Contribs 07:25, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Username?

edit

Hi

I came across this user name of User:Mindys12345 -

copied from User talk:202.59.80.55

جميع أفراد المجتمع المؤهلين مدعوون للتصويت في انتخابات مجلس أمناء مؤسسة ويكيميديا.

end copy

Where'd the date stamp go? Are such sigs allowed?

xC | 07:31, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't think I should have a go at zir sig then, although I still think its a little odd. Anyhow...
Nope, haven't add you to Gtalk - I upgraded my comp, and ended up formatting everything. I'm thinking of opening a seperate account for WP (like you have?) and that keeps getting postponed :P Will do today, I promise :) Take care, xC | 07:44, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
There we go - I've mailed you from my new account :)xC | 09:22, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry to see you're not having fun right now, because I'm really grateful for what you've done.

Hello, I'm JDitto, and I know this is kind of late, but I really appreciated it when you protected the article Shaq's Big Challenge. Did you see my question on the help desk? [3] A lot of us had been trying to stem the tide, but it had really come down to one vandalism per minute! Thank you very much and I wish you a nice day. --JDitto 19:36, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pop in one day from vacation and almost everyone seems to be gone! :-( Nice work with the Qst problem; you handled it well. ~ Wikihermit 20:54, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome

edit

Hi Riana, you're quite welcome. When you can, please look at the suggested solution for the Qst block on WP:ANI, which basically goes along with your idea of a fresh start for Qst, free of ties to his prior usernames. I see it as the fairest way for him and everybody else to move forward from this incident. I'm looking forward to your e-mail! :) --Kyoko 00:35, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mediation

edit

Hi Riana, just as a followup, you'd asked for statements from everyone involved at Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Danah Boyd. Everyone has complied and we are eager to proceed. What would you next recommend?  :) --Elonka 00:49, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

Hello my friend :). Seeing as you seem to know much of what is to be known around here, I have a question for you: I am curious as to how I am to positively identify myself in the unlikely event my account is compromised. I have seen the admin news and am curious as to how I can do that. I hope I am not imposing! Jmlk17 04:43, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Excellent...thank you! Jmlk17 06:00, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Change

edit

I added a little admin icon on your userpage. I hope you like it. Is that ok with you my dear? King Lopez Contribs 08:34, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, it's fine, I was trying to keep it icon-free but it's kinda cute. ~ Riana 13:46, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Danah Boyd mediation

edit

Hi Riana, sorry to bug you, but your summary statement for me is incorrect -- I believe that the article should be at Danah Boyd, which may have been confusing since I listed my responses to common arguments against having the article at Danah Boyd. I believe each of the arguments in bold are invalid, for the reasons posted below each point. Thanks for taking the time to join our case. -- Renesis (talk) 15:41, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vladimir Putin page protection -- administrative action

edit

Riana, may I ask your reasons for fully protecting Vladimir Putin page. The page has been living up just fine so far without your intervention, with opponents and proponents providing a good balance to each other and delivering good content in the end. Administrative action that you performed freezes recently added media-fuelled POV that comes without argument. I also see many useful links that were removed recently. If no reason is specified, may I advice you that I will request page unprotection according to normal administrative procedures. If your idea was to calm down hot heads for a moment, please advice me where I could find this and when the page is going to become unprotected again. Cfeet77 20:59, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please feel free to request unprotection at WP:RFP. ~ Riana 03:47, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Energy portal review

edit

Hi Riana. I see some time ago you volunteered to help out with portal reviews. The energy portal was peer reviewed back in March. Since then it has been developed substantially and is now under consideration as a featured portal, but has had remarkably few people contributing to the debate, compared to other candidates. If you have time perhaps you would like to take a look? The candidate page can be found here. Regards Gralo 23:09, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey, so, um

edit

You're one of these admin folks, huh? Well, um, I was just wondering, if you're not too busy, if you could give me some pointers or something sometime, help me become a better Wikipedian. You have been selected for this request after a brief glance over some stuff because you seem like a pretty nice person, who might actually consider helping a poor, useless Wikipedian such as myself. :x Dan 23:58, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, um, I dunno. I try to contribute to stuff that I know, but I'm not terribly in the know about very much, really only games. The problem with that being that everything I look at already seems like there's not much that can be added to it. Also, I'm just not that great at writing, so all I find myself able to do is make small corrections to spelling and stuff. As for vandalism stuff, I'm on the list for people waiting for VandalProof, so I guess that could be helpful. And, and, I'm just trying to figure out what else there is I could possibly do to help. x.x Dan 04:28, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Insecula deletion

edit

Unhappy with the deletion of the Insecula article, partly I admit for egotistical reasons, also because speedy deletions suck and are turning Wikipedia into a less rewarding site for contributors. However, on possibly more concrete grounds, Insecula is a useful resource for anyone researching art, containing hundreds of images and artist biographies, and on those grounds I claim that the article is Notable. QST or Molag Bal?

edit

User:81.158.179.210 just came off block and started trolling again. Was this resolved? I was going to tag the user page with {{IPsock}} of Molag Bal, but it's tagged as a QST sock. Just checking. Flyguy649 talk contribs 15:46, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Molag Bal, apparently. ~ Riana 03:36, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

About Sosoman78

edit

I was wondering if it will be at all possible to get this users I.P. for an investigation I am doing. I'm almost totally sure that the user here that has been spamming Wikipedia is the owner of the material and it is presumed that his entire company and possibly identity are a fraud. If getting his I.P. for use in my investigation is possible, please let me know, it would be of great help. Tunabun July 11, 2007 (7:33PM GMT -06:00)

Perhaps you're looking for WP:RFCU? I suppose you might try to argue for code "G". Realistically, however, if the user is spamming links, simply post at WP:AN/I; it doesn't matter who s/he is, or with what company s/he is associated; if the conduct is unacceptable, they will be blocked. Thanks very much Riana re action on User:Questforanastasia

edit

Thanks very much Riana for acting on multiple 3RR violator and vandal User:Questforanastasia on wikipedia page Anna Anderson. There has been extensive debate on the article as can be seen on the discussion page and User:Questforanastasia refuses to make any verifiable constructive criticism. Instead there are just many POV unsigned abusive rants. Finneganw 06:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Finneganw just beat me to the punch there. I'm hoping that this takes care of the problem. I'm not a contributor to the article, I have just had it on "vandalism watch" for a couple weeks now. Most of the editors have been working together to create a really good NPOV article, but there's a handful that refuse to discuss reaching a consensus.
I'm going to be watching this for at least the next few weeks to make sure all is (generally) peaceful. Trusilver 06:40, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
No problem, guys. Hopefully the block will force the user to think for a bit, and consider using the talkpage next time. ~ Riana 06:44, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vandal

edit

I advice you about vandal user:DIREKTOR who ruins articles foibe massacres, Istrian exodus and Josip Broz Tito specially today 12 July. This user is a Croatian nationalist who uses words in Croatian language: -Basovica- and -fojba- not -Basovizza- and -foiba- in article -foibe massacres-. This vandal removes links and uses terms POV very much in articles -foibe massacres- and -Josip Broz Tito-. I sent in his discussion page message warning but the vandal removed this message and I remove his POV edits but result is an edit war: may you block him? LEO 12 July

Well, you haven't really given me much to go on, so I'll keep an eye on Direktor and those articles for a while. Please be careful not to edit war yourself. Regards ~ Riana 15:44, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mourning dove semi-protection?

edit

There has been an odd wave of acts of vandalism on this page by ip addresses in the past few days. I was just checking the IP addresses, but there doesn't seem to be any obvious connection among them. Saw that you blocked one of the miscreants. Perhaps you could place the page under semi-protection? Notmyrealname 17:56, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's because it's today's Main Page FA. We don't generally protect these, barring extreme circumstances - see WP:NOPRO. Cheers, ~ Riana 17:58, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
