Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.
Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

Earthrise
editThe Earthrise thing you mentioned is interesting. The phenomenon is of the Earth seen rising from below the horizon of another astronomical body. This can be achieved in various ways, all of which require the correct movement relative to the Earth. You can be standing on a body rotating relative to the Earth (the Moon doesn't do this, as various people have tried to explain in a few sentences - it generally takes more words than that to explain it). You can be in a spacecraft orbiting the body (in this case the Moon). You could also be moving on the surface of the Moon, walking, running, or in a vehicle like a moon rover, and in the correct location, you will see the Earth rising over the horizon as you travel towards it. A less spectacular sort of Earthrise would also be possible in rotating space stations in high Earth orbit. Once every rotation, the Earth would pass across the field of vision. The same thing is seen with sunrises seen from Earth orbit. I think saying the Sun is rising above the limb (see the 'other meanings section') of the Earth is more correct than calling it a sunrise. Ditto for the Earthrise. The Earth is rising above the limb of the Moon, though at what point the limb becomes a horizon is debatable. Thanks for bring this interesting issue up. re: Hoaxers
editIf this really is a hoax, I would guess that those are socks created for the purpose of perpetuating the hoax. I think the afd should play out before anyone gets a warning. If the article is real, these people have some remarkably specialized knowledge (given the complete absence in anything I've searched) and we've already bitten them a little. Wyoming Incident
editI reverted your edit to Lusk, Wyoming, on the grounds that there's nothing corroborating the "Wyoming Incident" besides the one video on Google. The story is, however, very interesting if (in some way) true. If you have any other sources, would you mind telling me about them? I'd gladly restore and improve everything related if I could establish the veracity of the "Wyoming Incident". Thunderbunny 03:49, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

- The plot thickens...there's a third video (do a Google Video search for "Danny's Collection"), an associated blog at http://warningunknownvideos.blogspot.com/ (which has actually had posts deleted over the course of the day) and an enigmatic message board at http://thehappycube.proboards34.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1171567148 ...not too sure I like the direction it's taking, since it's seems to be resembling a bad horror movie more and more, rather than the somewhat creative Alternate Reality Game it seemed to be starting out as. The Flaming Lips WikiProject
editThanks for your support for the Flaming Lips WikiProject. I should have known better than to just create it and let it sit there... See, I was working on Zaireeka, which seemed to have the greatest potential to become a high-quality article in the least amount of time. I planned to finish it, and use it as a poster child of sorts for the project. Obviously, I was mistaken, and have begun advertising, if you will, on the band's web forum. Thnaks for joining the project and I look forward to working with you. ALso, there's a new userbox if you want to add it to your User page: User:MajorB/Userboxes/WP_Flips.
I suppose the first thing to do once getting members is to start putting together plans and begin coordinating on article work. SHould we start by pushing for certain articles, or perhaps do a wide sweep of all the articles, making them uniform in however we want them all to be structured and filling them with basic information? -MajorB 20:40, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Pushing for certain articles
editI think concentrating on The Flaming Lips, Zaireeka and Wayne Coyne is a good idea, although I would also like to push for Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots as well, since the corresponding chapter from the Staring at Sound book is also online. I have been working on Zaireeka for a couple weeks now, and it is currently being copyedited (by User:Gracenotes) and is nominated for GA... It still needs work for FA status, though. Improving The Flaming Lips should be the most important goal, however, as it should be the center of information on the group, branching out into the various articles for everything Lips-related... It currently needs verification, expansion, updating and possibly restructuring. I plan on getting a copy of SaS sometime in the future, so I can broaden the articles I can edit. -MajorB 21:44, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks I fixed it. -Indolences 21:25, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

The merge of Not! with negation is a part of an effort to create comprehensive pages for all of the logical operators. Quite frankly, it's just what we need to make for an interesting article. I think that any one of the logical operators is an entry that has 'featured article of the day' potential. There is a project proposal to expand all 16 logical operators. Your contribution is welcome. Be well, Gregbard

editThomas J. Hickey
editA proposed deletion template has been added to the article Thomas J. Hickey, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Thomas J. Hickey. Wikiproject Persondata
editHi! Thanks for putting your name down to help with the first set of articles in the list of biographies. So that we do not waste time re-checking each others' work, I thought it would be best to co-ordinate which sections of the list we would be working on. Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Kuzbu, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Picasso Nude in a blackArmchair.jpg
editThank you for uploading Image:Picasso Nude in a blackArmchair.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:09, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Firefox 3
editHi there! In the past, that page has often failed to download for me, and I had assumed it was related to the page's size. I took another look today, using MSIE, K-Meleon and Firefox 3, only to receive an error message that mentioned a memory problem, which did not occur on other pages I tried to browse. The message suggests the problem might be temporary, so I thought it would be best to wait a few hours, then, should it persist, I might mention it at the village pump or something - what do you think? Mouchoir le Souris (talk) 13:12, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Having re-tried and read a similar problem report at the village pump (here), regarding trouble saving long pages, it seems that it may be a remote error and the browser is not the cause. There is a suggestion on the page Wikipedia:WikiProject_Persondata/List_of_biographies that individual sections of the pages can be edited, which may be the best bet. Also, thankyou for handling the question about persondata on my talk page - I was unable to use Wikipedia for a while, so my reply would have been rather delayed. Mouchoir le Souris (talk) 19:28, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Protection
editI went ahead and protected it. I was going to delete it, but the talk page has a history that I wasn't sure what to do with. There were only a few pages using the redirect and I changed those to the uppercase S redirect. But it is still a plausible redirect to a high risk template. KnightLago (talk) 22:42, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Wikilinks
editYou can link to images or categories without actually displaying the image or putting the page in the category by using a colon on the front of the link. Ex: [[:Category:Iowa]] or [[:Image:Raster to Vector Mechanical Example.jpg]]. Similarly you can link to other Wikimedia sites by using s: for Wikisource, c: for Wikicommons, etc. and to other-language versions of Wikipedia by using the language abbreviation (es: for Spanish, etc.). I've translated a few of the long http links on your userpage to interwiki links. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 23:45, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
REDIRECTS
editYou moved Sword Dancer to Sword Dancer (horse) [1]. Any time an editor makes such a move, it is incumbent upon them to check "What Links Here" and revise each one as these forced redirects slow down Wikipedia and cost money. I reverted it back to its original form. Thanx. Handicapper (talk) 13:34, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Um no, you're mistaken. For one, I moved that page a year ago and I fixed all the DOUBLE redirects at the time. That's all you have to worry about. Redirects don't cost Wikipedia a non-negligible amount of money. Please go troll elsewhere. "Thanx." --Rajah (talk) 13:56, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Freshwater withdrawal, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.indexmundi.com/sweden/freshwater_withdrawal_(domestic_industrial_agricultural).html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 06:06, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

editAbout this edit. Lifetime is duplicating the DEFAULTSORT below. What was the idea? Rich Farmbrough, 08:30, 1 September 2009 (UTC).
Rajah, you should not replace DEFAULTSORT and cats with the Lifetime. There is no consensus for that. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 14:52, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, to be honest, I haven't been replacing them. I've only been adding Lifetime tags here and there. I'm not sure why Rich Farmbrough is curious I added it though as while it does duplicate a lone DEFAULTSORT, it has added functionality. From the lifetime page: "{{Lifetime}} is for automatically generating all category tags related to birth and death years, including living people and missing or unknown values. The general DEFAULTSORT can be embedded as well." Maybe you guys should take issue with the instructions on that page instead of people following its directions. --Rajah (talk) 14:58, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}

File copyright problem with File:MegaMillions-Map-4-18-10.svg
editThank you for uploading File:MegaMillions-Map-4-18-10.svg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. BLP, ethnicity, gender
editWikilawyers have been trying to drive through a wording loophole in BLP, saying ethnicity and gender of EGRS doesn't apply to living persons, simply because the two words aren't in the policy. (Apparently, they think it should only apply to dead people.) I remember you as having been very involved in years past.
They also are trying to remove the notability and relevance criteria for EGRS, but that's another fight for another day, I'm simply too busy to watch two fronts at the same time.

Disambiguation link notification for March 16
editHi. When you recently edited Jason Mattera, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Caucasian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
