Page Deletion on grounds of advertisement

My page for Evan Nagao (World YoYo Champion) was deleted. I quoted the descriptions from a site called yoyoexpert because I was unaware it constituted an advertisement as I put it in a quote. Can I recover my draft and change it for resubmission? I do not work for Yoyoexpert (which I quoted) or Yoyofactory (the subject's employer). This was my first experience writing an article on Wikipedia, and if there are any other reasons for the deletion, please let me know so I do not make the same mistake again in the future. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrblackhole (talkcontribs) 23:25, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Laundering promotion with quotes doesn't make it any less promotional. Acroterion (talk) 23:44, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

I understand, which is why I, if I am able to recover the draft, will delete the quotes and only put specs. If that is considered promotion as well, I could also just state the models that the player has made with the company? — Mrblackhole (talk) 00:02, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Or whoever has the ability to recover the document can just give me the draft without that section (Signature Yo-Yos) at all, and I can rewrite it. — Mrblackhole (talk) 01:28, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Ignore this request, recreated draft without section on “signature yoyos” If you can provide it, a little advice on how to write about commercial products without being promotional would be helpful. — Mrblackhole (talk) 04:14, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Deleted Photo

You deleted two photos that I have permission to upload. Did you read the copyright page on the photos? https://www.hmdb.org/copyright.asp

  • I also contacted the owner of the web site to be sure I could unload the photos to Wikipedia.
  • Can I use the hmdb.org website photos on Wikipedia?
  • His reply:
  • "Please proceed to use photographs from our website, with attribution. While we don’t use a Creative Commons license, our “some rights reserved” copyright reserve commercial rights only, so please proceed. https://www.hmdb.org/copyright.asp Attribution for these particular photographs would be “By Dean Whittle via HMdb.org” or similar. J. J. Prats, Editor of www.hmdb.org"

Was my copyright upload pick wrong? If yes what? It was delelted so quickly, I did not have a chance to reply. Thank you Telecine Guy (talk) 21:53, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Correction: I ask for clarity from the Web site manager. Here is his reply: "just name of photographer, comma, HMdb.org is all you’ll need for photographs. For the pages themselves, HMdb.org. J. J. Prats, Editor of www.hmdb.org" — Telecine Guy (talk) 00:13, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

As to these images, the licence terms you have quoted do seem to be invoking the non-commercial (NC) clause which is not allowed here. So the easiest thing is for the source site to explicitly release these images under a {{GFDL}} or {{cc-by-sa-4.0}} or both or less stringent licence and then you can safely upload them to the Commons. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:38, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

Deleted User Page

I noticed you deleted User:Bananarama2019. I have noticed this editors peculiar editing habits and they seem similar to sock account User:Bebo71/User:Beroe 2019. I didn't feel confident enough that they are related to go to SPI but I thought I would mention it to you if you come across any more situations from this account. Equineducklings (talk) 22:06, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Get the name right! On a quick inspection I would say that Bananarama 2019 probably is the same person as the other two but that they are a reformed character (it does happen sometimes). So any punitive action against Bananarama 2019 should be based solely on their edits under that user name. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:38, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

Talk:Super Why!

Hello, RHaworth, Did you intend to delete this talk page, too, or are the talk pages of deleted articles sometimes retained? I was just going through some of the many, MANY redirects to this article and found one leading the article talk page. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 16:55, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Yes, I should have deleted it. I was distracted because it had taken three attempts to do the deletion (time-outs while retrieving all the revisions) and I was boggling at the fact that it had 3000 edits. And we both omitted to delete Talk:SUPER WHY!! — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:13, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. I have seen some talk pages retained in Wikipedia-space when someone wanted to preserve a discussion and was unsure about all article talk pages. Liz Read! Talk! 07:05, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Shefali Rana

Hi RHaworth. Yesterday you dealt with the article Shefali Rana which you speedily deleted 5 times, and eventually blocked from recreation. Today the article has been recreated as Shefali rana and although another speedy nomination was rejected, it still seems at best borderline notability. If you believe the latest incarnation should be kept, could you unlock Shefali Rana, so I can move the new version there? Thanks, Railfan23 (talk) 05:51, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Deleted "Eric Solis"

Hi. I've read Section G11 and want to dispute your reason for deleting the page I created about Eric Solis. As stated in G11, "If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion." The content here is completely neutral and does not contain promotional language. If you disagree, please provide an example of the promotional language. The subject is notable, with multiple patents and citations from well-regarded media outlets. Please provide further evidence to support your claim that this subject should be the subject of speedy deletion. You seem to have an unusual preference for deleting pages. — GhostDust (talk) 05:54, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Hendrick Goltzius

RHaworth moved page Hendrik Goltzius to Hendrick Goltzius. There should have been a WP:RM on this - why wasn't there? — Johnbod (talk) 22:11, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Learn to provide a link whenever you talk about a page. Where is it written that every move requires an RM discussion? The addition of c to the guy's name was done with this edit. An hour later you edited the article and, apparently, agreed with the change. So why is it that in the last four years you have not taken steps to have the article moved? Hendrik Goltzius is currently a redirect with no previous edit history. If I understand the rules correctly, you would be able to move the article back and then Pichpich can go to all the trouble of raising a move request. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:31, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

I'm sure I hadn't noticed four years ago. This is a very poor excuse indeed. There should certainly have been an WP:RM (and that's where it is written), and of course Pichpich should not have moved it, especially in that sloppy way - a sloppiness repeated by you when you didn't add the alternative to the lead! Both names are very common, but in the absence of a discussion & analysis I suspect I might support "ick". But this is an important article & should not be moved on a whim. Johnbod (talk) 12:15, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

Is that boasting? I haven't reverted you yet at all, & often I wouldn't be able to. It would be much less trouble to seek a topic ban. It would be unwise to assume that couldn't be got. Alternatively you could just follow the rules. — Johnbod (talk) 18:17, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Dr John Mew

Dear Roger, Thank you for your feedback regarding my first attempt at a new page on wikipedia. The page is Draft:John_Mew. The reason you gave for deletion is advertising or promotion. I would have preferred it if you had given me feedback on which bit you think was advertising or promotion, so that I could edit it, rather than deleting the whole page. I hoped I had got the right balance. If it was the footnote for the IAFGG (international association of facial growth guidance), I included it to evidence that Orthotropics is practiced worldwide and because the IAFGG is a not-for-profit organisation, so I thought it would not be regarded as advertising or promotion. It is hard to know where the line is between evidence and advertising and I am happy to change the offending passage if you can tell me where it is. I would appreciate your help in learning how to do this correctly. — Acirsa (talk) 08:45, 22 August 2019 (UTC).

Eric Solis Speed Delete

Hello RHaworth,

With all sincerity your deletions of my page says more about you than having any reduction of the impact I have had on the fintech, the underbanked/unbanked and financial inclusion in the US and around the world. Fact is, I can do without a Wiki page just fine. But if you are recklessly deleting pages without proper due diligence, then you put the entire ecosystem at risk. My request is not for a restoration of my page, but that you think long and hard about your actions and the long term implications your behavior will have on society if social platforms like Wikipedia are to survive into the future. Draft:Nathaniel Phillips

Why was Draft:Nathaniel Phillips deleted? The deletion was logged as G7, but the G7 tag was added by User:REDMAN 2019, who is not the author of the article. Redman, why did you place that G7 tag? And, RHaworth, as noted elsewhere, you need to be more careful when acting on CSD tags placed by other editors to verify that they were tagged correctly. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:11, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

  • As you can see my account was created recently. When the draft was created the author's account WAS my account I have since created my own account. but the draft still said that my original username was the author. I deleted the draft when I discovered that a page already existed that covered the topic. and deleted the draft. -- REDMAN 2019 (talk) 16:10, 26 August 2019 (GMT)

User:FHR Anlagenbau GmbH/sandbox

Hi there, I uploaded a page user:FHR Anlagenbau GmbH/sandbox two days ago but it was immediately deleted apparently on the basis of promotion. Appreciate if you could let me have specifics on it. I don't believe talking about the name of a company and where it's based is considered as promotional materials. I'd change the items which are against Wikipedia's policy if you could specifically point them out. I can show you many other similar pages for other companies which have been approved. But I cannot forgive your apparent inability to look at your own contributions history. In this report if you had looked at it at the time you left your message, User talk:Dewapoker12309 would have stood out a mile because of the (-19.929) beside it. SECC v. EBASCO

re: deleted SECC v EBASCO article deleted when still under protest and talk at Teahouse. Draft:Securities and Exchange Commission v. Electric Bond and Share company was currently in discussion at the teahouse with editors helping me sort out how to deal with this. I ran into a medical emergency as I'm a caregiver and needed to deal with 3 hours of real world work.

As soon as I saw the warning. I put a protest in. yet the piece is now deleted! Even though I even removed the segment in alarm that it might be removed. So the segment that was in real dispute with at least one editor agreeing with me that the materail was actually a federal government document - a supreme court case ruling - I agreed to delete that segment and it was already gone when you deleted the entire piece.

I had already put many hours of work in this and was actively attempting to get help to fix the article up to the real protest against the deletion warning! How is it that my protest is now gone with all that work? There is something very wrong about how this has happened. Please explain how this could happen when I did what the warning said about filing a protest as well as removing the material that was under dispute? — Energynet (talk) 08:12, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

  • You are hopelessly long-winded: you give me 1300 bytes above but you cannot provide a link to the article nor to a possible .gov source for your text. But the basic problem is that reproducing the court's judgement does not make a Wikipedia article. We need an article about that judgement, not the text itself - to that you provide a link. Text emailed. Go to DRV if you are not satisfied. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:13, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

I was and still am going through a medical emergency in the real world that I must attend to! I had deleted the section you based your deletion on, prior to its deletion! I thought I had filed a protest on the deletion prior to deletion but being new to this am not sure if I did it properly. And I had been seeking help over this at the teahouse where I was receiving different positions.

You yourself merely had to open up the disputed link to see that it was a U.S. Court decision and that there did not appear to be a copyright issue. Apologies but the link to the piece was what you deleted I posted the title because I was already up 2 hours past my bedtime terrified that I'd just lost my entire friday evening and many additional hours in the past week. I'm a human being and was nearly at tears as well as anger when I thought I was making every attempt to follow the suggestions at the teahouse! — Energynet (talk) 15:51, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

However as I can see from the below link, the page was taken down. Draft:Danish Operations Research Association. I don't understand as to why this is. We are not trying to promote our organization, we simply tried to add a neutral Wiki page which resembled our sister association from our neighbouring country. Their Wikipedia link is here: Swedish Operations Research Association.

Would it be possible to re-open this page somehow? I would also like to improve the entry by adding more links to other Wiki articles and integrate it better into the Encyclopedia. Hope to hear from you soon. // Akrogjet (talk) 20:24, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

You deleted my page

Hello! You deleted my page - User:Dmitry Tolkunoff/sandbox. Want to let you know that I am new on wiki and maybe my article didn't fit perfectly into wiki's standards. However it was not the final version of the article and I was going to upgrade it. I will explore more deeply wiki's rules and standards and will be really cool if next time you will not delete in an express way like you did it and will give me just recommendation what have to be changed in the article in your opinion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dmitry Tolkunoff (talkcontribs) 18:28, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

User talk:106.205.152.95

Hello RHaworth, is there a particular reason you extended confirmed protected User talk:106.205.152.95 instead of using autoconfirmed protection? The disruption solely came from IPs I believe. --MrClog (talk) 18:39, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Keemstar, et al

Can you please explain why you've applied extended confirmation protection to this page as well as the associated redirects? You've left no rationale. — Buffs (talk) 22:39, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

No, I meant what I said. This issue is not why you did it, per se, but why you didn't explain it in your rationale (literally leaving it blank). — Buffs (talk) 15:19, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Sabina Knight

Hello! I am writing to ask for your help. I see that you deleted the page I submitted on Sabina Knight because of copyright infringement, but I thought I cited the sources properly. Would you be able to explain to me how to fix the submission so that it will be approved? I am a first-time Wikipedia contributor and thought I had followed the instructions, but clearly I am making major mistakes. I've read through the instructions several times and still don't see what I'm doing wrong. Thanks very much, Sarah Gilleman — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C64:7B7F:E8B4:DDE4:C23C:979B:443B (talk) 00:01, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Hear hear, well said Buffs. Captainllama (talk) 23:35, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
How about the same thing without the condescending remarks about citations or where you apparently consider IP requests beneath your dignity to respond to?
Count yourself lucky that I am talking to an IP address. Do you actually understand the difference between citing, ie. providing a link and wholesale copying? If not, let me know and we can talk about it. Try Any such issues could be resolved by re-writing this entirely in your own words. See WP:SUMMARY, WP:CITE, WP:COI, and WP:NPS for further guidance.
This would be immensely better. You are unnecessarily coming across WAY more hostile than is necessary. I'm not suggesting that this IP's actions are correct (near as I can tell, they are 100% wrong). But as an admin, you should be much nicer about letting them know about their edits and how they can improve them. Your job as an admin isn't just technical deletions or protections, but explaining them in a manner that is appropriate for a new user. While the IP is reading those linked articles, perhaps you could browse WP:AGF, WP:ADMINACCT, and especially WP:BITE:
"If you feel that you must say something to a newcomer about a mistake, please do so in a constructive and respectful manner. Begin by introducing yourself with a greeting on the user's talk page to let them know that they are welcomed here, and present your corrections calmly and as a peer. If possible, point out something they've done correctly or especially well."

chiiz.com

hi RHaworth, I see that you deleted a Chiiz.com that I created citing as promotion, as reason, request you to reconsider it a this is purely informational page on a topic which is a hobby for many, photography. request you to reconsider it. — (talk) Joydeep ghosh (talk) 18:58, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

deleted page Draft:Dodging Bullets

It would have been more pleasant to edit the article or let the Wikishere know your specific reason for deleting a draft, which was still being editing. Draft:Dodging Bullets. You pointed out (G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of https://dodgingbullets.org/overview-of-the-documentary-film-dodging-bullets/) Of which there was no plagiarism or copyright infringement. I was correct stating the facts of an important documentary film. Ro — Preceding unsigned comment added by F3r5tfg6743 (talkcontribs) 21:09, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Could you please reinstate this so it can be edited? — Ro F3r5tfg6743 (talk) 16:12, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Draft:Optical immunoassay

You deleted Draft:Optical immunoassay after AngusWOOF tagged it for WP:G12. As far as I can tell, there was a single sentence that was copied, and that could have easily been fixed by deleting that sentence. I'm not saying it was a good article (far from it), but I don't think it was G12 eligible. Could you take another look at that? Thanks. -- RoySmith (talk) 22:14, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

RoySmith, the rest of the article needed to be fundamentally rewritten anyway to be more of a Wikipedia article rather than snippets of the research paper. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 22:21, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

That may well be true, but that's not a WP:CSD, and certainly not WP:G12. -- RoySmith (talk) 22:28, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Those sentences appear to be copied out of the papers themselves though, including references to Figures and other references. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 22:34, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Can you be more specific? The G12 tag mentioned https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC263574/. Looking at the full text of that paper, I'm just not seeing what was copied. Unfortunately, earwig doesn't work against deleted pages, so I've just been searching for phrases that are duplicated in either direction, and not finding any. I also tried a few likely-sounding phrases from the deleted draft and googled them. Again, no joy. If you know of where this was copied from, let me know where I can find it. -- RoySmith (talk) 22:43, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

RoySmith, are you wanting to revive the article so you can rewrite it? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 13:49, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

No, I'm wanting for RHaworth to reverse his deletion because it's an invalid WP:G12. If you can show me what it's a copyvio of, I'm content with that. But, lacking that, neither of, "this looks like it's probably a copyvio of some paper that I can't specifically identify", nor, "this is a really badly written draft" are valid WP:CSD. I am assuming that this was just an innocent mistake and once RHaworth reads this thread, he'll correct the error on his own. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:06, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

BTW, I tried searching in JSTOR for a random sentence, Colour changes were observed after the final washing and drying either by the naked eye or with a magnifier under a white light source, from the draft. I came up with two hits, neither of which were remotely the source of this draft's text. One possibility I can think of is that this is an early draft of a paper which has either not yet been submitted, or was rejected. In either case, that would explain the references to figure numbers, but there's no copyright issue since it was never published. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:28, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you. -- RoySmith (talk) 16:39, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

User page deleted?

Hello, just found out that my first article and page were tagged for misuse of Wikipedia. I'm trying to get help on the article I wrote, but may you please let me know how I can reinstate my user page? — SPMCC88 (talk) 22:16, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Help with deleted article

Hi, you recently deleted an article for me, which I believe was because of a username conflict. I was able to change my username. I also saw a note that read "(G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion)". Can I ask if the G11 was based solely on my username conflict or if the article itself should be revised?

Here is the original link to where you deleted it:

Artesia

Would you be so kind as to explain why you applied ECP here? Given that there was no prior protection on the page, the spam is coming from a single user, and the page has less than 50 edits in the past 14 years, "Spam" seems to be a woefully inadequate explanation and doesn't meet Wikipedia:Protection_policy#Extended_confirmed_protection the criteria for the application of ECP.
