Disputed fair use rationale for Image:One Ton Cup.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:One Ton Cup.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:46, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

It already is sort of soft (I didn't block registered users). Are you suggesting an indefinite soft block (i.e. a consent block)? Policy is sort of dicey on whether to allow those. Daniel Case (talk) 17:13, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's usually what we do with repeat-offending school districts. Longer and longer blocks (but not indefinite, as we can only block open-proxy IPs indefinitely) as the vandalism continues. If they've shown a propensity to repeat within a very short time frame, I usually just make the block for the rest of the school year. We don't permit account creation but we do allow registered users to log in.

I don't know if the kids will assume it's indefinite ... the time of the block is usually right there on the user talk page and even if it isn't it's in the block log. But a long block usually means the miscreants will have moved on to some other way of raising havoc in the meantime. Daniel Case (talk) 17:52, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question about image you uploaded

Hi Plm209,

There is a question about Image:Tobyhanna Rail.jpg which you've indicated is PD as a work of the Federal Gov't. However, the source given is a link to the National Railway Historical Society's website. Before tagging it, I thought I'd drop you a note to see if Gov't ownership has been verified to explain this apparent discrepancy? JGHowes talk - 21:10, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Petefrancis.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 08:34, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Everything Is One

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Everything Is One, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

notability is not indicated

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Discussion on linking to streamed copies of albums

edit

Wikipedia policy allows us to link to legal streamed copies of albums. It would be useful to draw up a guideline on how and when to link to such albums; however, there is concern that it may not be appropriate as the music would not be available in all parts of the world. Is the benefit of having access to the music for most users outweighed by the fact that some users will follow a link to find the music is not playable in their region? Your view would be helpful at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums. SilkTork ✔Tea time 02:31, 16 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Night Wolf.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Night Wolf.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 15:45, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
