Speedy deletion nomination of Template:0/

edit

A tag has been placed on Template:0/ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it must be substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Lfdder (talk) 10:56, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Main Page appearance

edit

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of the article List of municipalities of the Netherlands know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on September 2, 2013. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/September 2, 2013. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad.   Thanks! Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:01, 1 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Red linked templates

edit

Greetings Patrick, I am working to clean up some of the database reports and I noticed that a couple of your subpages have some deleted templates that are appearing on Wikipedia:Database reports/Transclusions of deleted templates/1 and Wikipedia:Database reports/Transclusions of deleted templates/2. Since you are still an active editor I don't want to mess with your subpages but I was wondering if you would mind taking a look and maybe udpating some of the red links or something so they will stop popping on the reports. Thanks and please let me know if you have any questions. Kumioko (talk) 17:50, 5 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your admin status

edit

Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on vlswiki, where you are an administrator. Since vlswiki does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.

We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.

Degrees of freedom in wallpaper groups

edit

Hi Patrick,

I am not sure how you obtained the numbers of degrees of freedom in [Wallpaper_group]. Could you explain please? | Section here.

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.128.169.13 (talk) 12:28, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

In brief:
  • p3.., p4.., p6..: position (2), size (1), orientation (1)
  • p1: translation vectors (4)
  • p2: translation vectors (4), position (2)
  • pm: translation vectors (3), position (1)
  • pg: translation vectors (3), position (1)
  • cm: translation vectors (3), position (1)
  • pmm: translation vectors (3), position (2)
  • pmg: translation vectors (3), position (2)
  • pgg: translation vectors (3), position (2)
  • cmm: translation vectors (3), position (2)

Thus the numbers of degrees of freedom are:

  • 6 for p2
  • 5 for pmm, pmg, pgg, and cmm
  • 4 for the rest.

Proposed deletion of Den Haag (novel)

edit

The article Den Haag (novel) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unremarkable novel.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sorry, it seems like I've been nominating a lot of your templates for deletion recently. I'm not trying to single you out, I promise! It's just that your templates seem to keep popping up in Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls, which I've been working through. And I'm afraid to say that I have another one to add to the list - Template:For loop/old. (The discussion is at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2014 November 13#Template:For loop/old.) Speedy deletion nomination of Proximity

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Proximity requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Invitation to subscribe to the edit filter mailing list

edit

Hi, as a user in the edit filter manager user group we wanted to let you know about the new wikipedia-en-editfilters mailing list. As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you! Speedy deletion nomination of Cuddling

edit

Hello Patrick,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Cuddling for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ArcticGriffin (talk) 00:45, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • *facepalm* Unfortunately, there were several glitches that happened and resulted in this. When I was looking at the oldest articles that hadn't been reviewed on the new pages feed, it showed Cuddling as a blank page with no content and said it hadn't been reviewed since 2003. I also searched up "Cuddling" in the search bar and saw the exact page with no content. This is why I tagged it for speedy deletion. It didn't display any redirect on it, nor did it redirect me to Hug. My apologies for this mistake. ArcticGriffin (talk) 20:28, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Extended confirmed protection

edit

Hello, Patrick. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

edit

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

edit

Hi Patrick.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Direction (geometry)

edit

The article Direction (geometry) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No substantial information contained in article. It seems more like a long dictionary entry or a short personal reflection.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

edit

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sortable table and naming

edit

You moved List of countries and dependencies by population density to List of countries and dependencies by area, population and population density. I have never seen a sortable table be used in article naming. Mobile users [1], users without JavaScript, many (nearly all?) reusers and offline uses don't have sorting. Do you know a precedent or discussion about this? I think it should at least have a requested move. I would oppose, especially for such a long name. It also seems odd to name the default sorting last. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:50, 31 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

The old name contained the default sorting order, even though the page allows three sorting orders. Even a simple smartphone can use the regular site instead of the mobile site, with the sorting working fine. The order in the name is that of the columns. A shorter name like de:Liste der Staaten der Erde without mentioning the nice features or the somewhat trivial default sorting in the name is also possible. At least it also provides a distinction with a name such as List of countries and dependencies by area, where "by area" apparently should be interpreted as "only about area". - Patrick (talk) 22:07, 31 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

which corresponds to what is named "left" in your edit.Sergei (talk) 03:08, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Proposed deletion of Child singer

edit

The article Child singer has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is, a) a violation of WP:NOTDICTIONARY and b) not even an accurate definition... There is no appropriate redirect target (Boy soprano might make sense in some cases, ex. Aled Jones, but very much not in others; and there is no general article about children singing), and while there might possibly be some sources from which to write an actual encyclopedic article, I c) can't find them from a quick search; and d) there's not much content from this that would be helpful in writing a new article anyway, so starting form scratch is probably preferrable.

Speedy deletion nomination of J. C. Penney (disambiguation)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on J. C. Penney (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Proposed deletion of Cool School Camp

edit

The article Cool School Camp has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Only uses box office as a source, with no reviews nor other significant coverage found. Does not seem to pass WP:GNG or WP:NF.

This applies more to you, you have even blatantly ignored, and continue to ignore, my explanation in the edit summary "they very much like him to come, the main thing is not the invitation, but that he is willing to come (which was not even mentioned)". If you think my formulation can be improved, you can try to do that, without recreating the omission. - Patrick (talk) 21:29, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've very tangentially mentioned you at the admins' incidents noticeboard ...

edit

... not because you've done anything wrong, but because I've been traipsing through your really old deleted edits trying to find old history to merge, etc. This was inspired by this RFC re text about minor edits that relates to text you originally added way back in 2003. Some of your edits I restored while going through your deleted contributions were old redirects and there's a current admins' incidents noticeboard discussion about deletion/undeletion of these sorts of edits, where I mentioned your username. Proposed deletion of Quicklaunch

edit

The article Quicklaunch has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seems to fail WP:NCORP but prodding so page watchers may be able to help find references. The BBC article only mentions the project while quoting the founder who also stated that the project never got off the ground. I found one reference from Scientific America which would meet WP:ORGCRIT but that's not enough.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Invitation to participate in a research

edit

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Speedy deletion nomination of Deceleration

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Deceleration requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
