Blocked

edit

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. —Cryptic 17:36, 30 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I want to clarify once again that I do not work for Mr. Hoskins. When I created the username "Office of Nasaiah Hoskins," it was simply because he was the first subject I attempted to write about, and I thought the username needed to be related to the article topic. My goal was to explore the process of publishing a page on Wikipedia, and I did not intend to keep this username permanently. I have already suggested a new username as I now understand how the initial one may have been misleading.
Regarding the image, I did not take it myself. It is a publicly available image that I downloaded and used, not fully understanding Wikipedia's strict copyright rules. I now realize that my interpretation was incorrect, and I appreciate your guidance on this matter. The image was not taken by me, and Mr. Hoskins did not pose for me.
In terms of content, I had a list of impactful Pennsylvania topics I was considering writing about, and Mr. Hoskins was just one of them. It was less about specifically covering Mr. Hoskins and more about giving publishing on Wikipedia a try with a subject I felt could be notable. I fully understand now that my approach was flawed, and I am eager to learn from this experience.
I am open to writing about other subjects and would appreciate guidance on how to proceed with creating neutral, policy-compliant content. I apologize for any misunderstandings and look forward to contributing in a way that aligns with Wikipedia’s standards. Officeofnasaiahhoskins (talk) 14:45, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

My intention was to create a neutral and informative article about Nasaiah Hoskins, focusing on his role as a Pennsylvania Commissioner and social impact leader. The goal was not to promote any business or organization, but rather to provide a factual biography that adheres to Wikipedia's standards. I now understand that the article may have unintentionally come across as promotional, and I am committed to revising the content to ensure it aligns fully with Wikipedia's guidelines. I would appreciate the opportunity to correct any issues and resubmit the article for review.

Decline reason:

This does not address your violations of WP:COI and WP:UPE. Your content was blatantly promotional, completely inappropriate for a biography, which Wikipedia isn't, or an encyclopedia, which Wikipedia is. Yamla (talk) 20:48, 30 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your feedback. I want to clarify that I am a new editor, I have never published an article before and this was my first attempt at contributing to Wikipedia. I do not work for Nasaiah Hoskins in any capacity, and my intention was not to promote him or his business. My goal was to create an informative and neutral biography of a young state leader in Pennsylvania, focusing on his public service and contributions to his community.
I chose my username the way I did because I thought it had to be related to the subject I was writing about. I now understand how that might come across as a conflict, and I’m learning more about Wikipedia’s guidelines. This was my first article, and I was simply giving it a shot, not expecting that I would trigger concerns about the guidelines in this way. I’m eager to learn and improve.
As I continue to grow as an editor, I would greatly appreciate your guidance on what type of content is appropriate for Wikipedia. I understand that Wikipedia covers information on notable individuals, and I would like to better understand the boundaries for writing about public figures like Hoskins.
Could you please provide some direction on how I can move forward or what kind of content is allowed in similar cases?
Thank you for your assistance. Officeofnasaiahhoskins (talk) 21:21, 30 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

You say you don't work for him, but your current username is "Office of Nasaiah Hoskins" which certainly suggests that you work for him. You also took a very professional looking image of Mr. Hoskins, who posed for you, and you personally claim the copyright of the image. The image is also used on his website(https://www.nashoskins.com/). If you don't work for him, then you've made a string of very poor decisions and that's enough for you to remain blocked until you can demonstrate an understanding of our policies and what we do here. I also don't think you picked him at random to edit about. If your goal was to write a neutral biography, frankly you were completely unsuccessful. I'm really not trying to pile on here, but these are all issues that will need to be addressed. It is doubtful that you will be unblocked to write about Mr. Hoskins, so we will need to know what edits you will make instead. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 08:34, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
