To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}}
on your userpage.
Please remember to:
- Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes
~~~~
at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp. - Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
editHello, I'm Chlod. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Typhoon Noru, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Chlod (say hi!) 02:50, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
Hello Noru111344! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. HurricaneEdgar 11:19, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. HurricaneEdgar 12:02, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Chlod (say hi!) 15:14, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
Just A Heads Up
- Also, If a typhoon is unnamed but named by PAGASA, what should I do? Noru111344 (talk) 10:24, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @Noru111344 and it may be a late reply but, typical tropical depressions named by the PAGASA are not technically classified as a named storm. The West Pacific gets its international name from the JMA.
- For explanation, if a depression is named by the PAGASA, it is typically called Tropical Depression (Name), for example Tropical Depression Usman. Additionally, if a depression never entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility, it is called what the JTWC designated it as; for example Tropical Depression 18W. I hope this helps~ Layah50♪ (喋ってください!) 02:50, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
Typhoon Nanmadol Rfd
editI closed the discussion you started at Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2022_November_20#Typhoon_Nanmadol because Redirects for discussion is not for requesting page moves. The requested move discussion you initiated at Talk:Typhoon Nanmadol (2022) was the correct venue. This move is potentially controversial (as confirmed by the user opposing the move) so requires discussion. The discussion will remain open for at least 7 days, and a user will then close the discussion and, if there is consensus to move the page, will perform the move. Cheers, Mdewman6 (talk) 20:22, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- i want it to delete the redirect, not move. 🌀 SuperTyphoonNoru 🌀 SuperTyphoonNoru (talk) 05:03, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- If the requested move discussion results in consensus to move, then the 2022 article will be moved over the redirect. In your Rfd nomination, you said you wanted to delete the redirect because it was blocking the move. Is there another reason you think the redirect should be deleted? Will several typhoons by that name, surely something should exist at this title, whether it be an article, a list/set index, or a redirect. Other than it blocking a proposed move, I don't see a reason for deleting the redirect. Mdewman6 (talk) 18:50, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- In order to move the page, I need to delete the redirect because the redirect won’t let me move the page. 🌀 SuperTyphoonNoru 🌀 SuperTyphoonNoru (talk) 14:23, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- Well, that is what the requested move discussion at Talk:Typhoon_Nanmadol_(2022)#Requested_move_19_November_2022 that you started is for- if there is agreement that the move should be made, an uninvolved user will close the discussion and perform the move for you. This is move is controversial, so starting a requested move discussion was the right way to request this. If you ever want to make a bold move but you can't because a redirect is in the way, start a request at technical move requests (but you should make sure it is not potentially controversial). Do not list the redirect that is in the way at redirects for discussion. Mdewman6 (talk) 18:40, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors
editDear project member, This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated.
We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details. The proposal phase will close no later than December 31st at 23:59 UTC. NoahTalk 04:07, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
edit Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Cyclone Batsirai into 2021–22 Australian region cyclone season. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 18:52, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
editCan you please stop adding details on ITC Batsirai to the Australian region page, as Batsirai was barely a tropical low while in the Australian region between 90 and 160E. Anything major that needs to be added to the seasonal page belongs to the South-West Indian Ocean page which covers the region between Africa and 90E. Jason Rees (talk) 10:59, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit of yours to the page Hurricane Katrina has an edit summary that appears to be inadequate, inaccurate, or inappropriate. Non-free rationale for File:Ürümqi fire 2022.jpg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ürümqi fire 2022.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. The page Bulgegaria has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it was a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.
Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion Review. signed, Rosguill talk 04:26, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
Hi SuperTyphoonNoru, regarding your most recent edits on this article - British English has different spellings to other forms of English and this page may be of interest: MOS:Spelling if you hadn't seen it. I kindly ask that you check edit summaries before reverting changes by others, and if you do make a change, add a summary as to why you have, as otherwise it could be considered edit warring which is counterproductive. editThanks for uploading File:Bondoc Peninsula.jpeg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 05:26, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- I already put NASA template?? 🌀 SuperTyphoonNoru 🌀 SuperTyphoonNoru (talk) 07:30, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- That NASA template unfortunately doesn't establish that it is a NASA image and it isn't a license template. This would be the license you would add to the image page, {{PD-USGov-NASA}}. Do you have a link to the website where you found the image? Salavat (talk) 03:32, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, at nasa worldview. Also thanks for clarifying, I forgot the name. 🌀 SuperTyphoonNoru 🌀 SuperTyphoonNoru (talk) 05:20, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
Custom signature fix needed
editHi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. Changes to Wikipedia's software have made your current custom signature invalid.
The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error or obsolete HTML tags.
The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, you can fix your signature, or you can do nothing.
Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
- Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
- Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (Do not click the red "Restore all default settings" button, which will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Click the button next to the error to learn how to fix the error.
- Update your signature to fix the error.
- Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.
Solution 3: Do nothing:
- In accordance with a recent request for comment, all invalid signatures will be changed to the default, which looks like "Example (talk)", one month from now.
If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:05, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for October 3
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Bondoc Peninsula, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bicol. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
