Mount Agung and Mount Batur

Hi, I just noticed that you "updated" these mountain info boxes. I'm the one who, mostly, set up the prior boxes and I think they were better that way. I'm not not into the mountains project and I realize you were using the standard box format; maybe the mountain template could use some work. Comments are welcome. • I know what you mean about the template, I think it could do with some border trimming. The beauty of using the template though is that if there is general agreement to add some trimming (like the Taxobox) when it gets changed on the template it gets changed everywhere. A request for assistance

Would you support the concept of moving the Earhart "myths" to a separate page or article? The reason for my suggesting this is that the main article should be an accurate and scholarly work while the speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart are interesting, they belong in a unique section. Most researchers, as you know, discount the many theories and speculation that has arisen in the years following her last flight. Go onto the Earhart discussion page and register your vote/comments...and a Happy New Year to you as well. Bzuk 03:02 3 January 2007 (UTC).

I notice that you renamed Mount Albert Edward to Mount Albert Edward (British Columbia) but hadn't fixed the various pages that linked to the old one so they were left pointing to the new dab page. Thanks for the response. No problem. I was poking around your user page and some of the things you describe. Interesting stuff, thanks for the links. Drop bears, I am skeptical about, or at least I was until I saw the fangs on that beast :-) The two things that prompted me to send you a further note are firstly the mention of the Hunter Valley in the Paterson article. I had never heard of this place until this past Christmas. I spent a couple of nights in Newcastle and drove along the coast and discovered the Hunter Valley. Only found out enough about the area to add it to my list of places to visit for longer sometime. A very nice part of the world. The second item is the Finger Wharf. It looks familiar to me. When I was in Sydney, I took a ferry ride to a part of the harbour north of the city centre and got off and walked around a bit. I have a hunch that the shore I walked along was the Finger Wharf. Any chance of adding a geo coord link (Wikipedia:WikiProject_Geographical_coordinates#Implementation_details) to it? Also, nice photos! Blackwood v. D'Urberville

Hello,

There are numerous references to Blackwood on the web if you google it. Full name is Blackwood, Francis Price (1809 - 1854) and a reasonable biography is at www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A010105b.htm. This credits him with being captain of the survey ship 'Fly' for three years from 1841 working in Northern Australia and New Guinea.

D'Urville was a Frenchman, captain of a ship called the 'Astrolabe', If he discovered a large river why would he call it the 'Fly'? Perhaps the 'mouche' if the insects were giving him a hard time.

Of course there are many instances of someone making a discovery and someone else getting the credit for it, so I can't definitely say you are wrong, but Blackwood seems the more likely candidate.

The site "geography.about.com/library/misc/ucfly.htm" has this to say:

"But, the Fly wasn't named for a pesky insect -- it was named for a ship. In 1842,
Captain F. P. Blackwood discovered the mouth of the Fly River and named it for the ship he commanded -- the HMS Fly!"

New WikiProject - Australian literature

heya, as you were the original nominator for Australian literature as the ACOTF I thought you'd like to know that we are trying to get an Australian Literature Project going. we have a WP Australian literature development page where you can list your interest, and contribute if you like.

there's a lot of work to be done in this area, imo, and the project will really help manage it. feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions.

PNG Place Infoboxes

The current info box should be enough for Towns, Cities and Villages, although a separate one needs to be developed, IMHO for:

• NCD Localities, the fields don't lend them selves to NCD stuff as ' Province' is appended to the end of the {{{Province}}} field in the location map view (see Tabubil)
• Provincial captials
• Mine sites

and possibly more other specialized settlements such as missions and compounds. The above info boxes can (I think) be a sub directory of Template:Towns_and_Cities_in_Papua_New_Guinea.
