License tagging for Image:Theatre-boxes small.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Theatre-boxes small.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:08, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

British railway signals

edit

The article you contributed, British railway signals, is an excellent contribution to wikipedia. Unfourtunatly, screenshots from copyrighted video games can only be used in articles about the video game or their creator. Any other use is an illegal copyright violation.

I am afraid I had to remove them, since they are not being used in legitimate fair use they will most likely be deleted from the system. I can see you put alot of effort into this, but copyright law makes this unavoidable.

Perhaps you can draw these images or use a paint program to approximate them, or if it is too much work you can alter the article so it does not depend on images.

Please do not be discouraged by the, copyright law is complicated, and wikipedia's copyright policies are only a little less complicated. For full details see WP:COPYRIGHT and for the specifics of fair use(the fair use of copyrighted images) see WP:FAIR. Thanks for the hard work, and sorry about the images. Ok, I notice to took all the images that you first claimed were video game screenshots, and you changed it to say the you personally created them and release them under GNU.

How is it that they were screeenshots of a game and are now your own creation. Please explain this as adding false copyright claims to an image is damaging to Wikipedia an not acceptable behavior for an editor. Without clarification these images will be deleted. You will see that these images were created by myself completely from scratch in Fireworks MX. I took your point about using screenshots as copyright violation which I understand but how can these images I made myself, which you recommended I do so, violate copyright? Please check this before accusing me of bad practice. Nmedlam 19:21, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

It was not my intention to accuse you of anything, I was simply seeking clarification. I did not realize you had redone the images. Thanks for addressing my concerns. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 19:27, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem HighInBC I was just worried these images would be deleted after I had put quite a bit of effort into the entire article. Thanks for your guidance. Nmedlam 19:35, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I should have noticed that you had uploaded new versions. The article you wrote is very good, I am wondering where you got the information for the article? You should list it as a reference. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 20:00, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oops, nevermind I just saw that you have listed references. Must be too early for me. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 20:01, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
