A note on posting

edit

If necessary, your post will be copy-edited to conform with standard written American English. Particular pet peeves include incorrectly punctuated direct addresses, use of quotation marks and their relationship with punctuation, which vs. that, they vs. it, and use of a hyphen with spaces when an em-dash without spaces is needed. Edit Summaries

edit

Hello. With all the editing you do on WP, I think it might really be a good idea to consider the use of edit summaries (see Edit_summary for info). I find they help other editors a lot, and you might find them useful yourself when checking your own past edits. Thanks! Doctormatt 07:00, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Seconded.--Oneiros (talk) 23:39, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When you make a change to an article, please provide an edit summary for your edits. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit. It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you.
Hi MJ. Another note on editing, if you don't mind: It will also be easier for you and your co-editors to collaborate on articles if, instead of making multiple consecutive edits in rapid succession on an article, you use the "Show preview" button to view your changes incrementally before finally saving the page once you're satisfied with your edits. Thanks in advance for considering this.
Help:Show_preview promotes minimizing the number of saves per edit session. We're being watched, and we feel our pulse. Eric talk 20:16, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

League of Copyeditors roll call

edit
Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog that still exists there.
The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors.

AfD nomination of Van Gogh (Ras Kass album)

edit

An editor has nominated Van Gogh (Ras Kass album), an article on which you have created or worked, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Van Gogh (Ras Kass album) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 18:59, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hadag Nahash

edit

Hadag Nahash's press kit says that it plays hip hop, funk and other music. Generally, it is called a hip hop group in Israel. Why did you change the classification to funk group? -- Ynhockey (Talk) 08:59, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

If they hate the label as you say, why don't they do something about it with their producer? In any case, do you have a reliable source to verify what you said? —Ynhockey (Talk) 17:18, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Don't get me wrong, it's great that you know the lead singer and stuff, but this isn't how Wikipedia works—no disrespect intended. Only what is supported by reliable sources can be inserted into Wikipedia. Read the verifiability policy for further details. If this policy didn't exist, anyone could say that they personally knew lead singers and such, and insert whatever they wanted into articles. Please find a source (maybe an interview of the lead singer?) where he says that they hate the classification. —Ynhockey (Talk) 15:29, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Elektra Records

edit

This notice is to inform you that new Elektra label reissues on the dormant label use the classic 1960s stencil E logo instead of the double-E logo, which was the final logo before Atlantic Records absorbed the label and rendered it dormant. The infobox remains because WMG has not yet formally declared the label defunct. Steelbeard1 (talk) 11:00, 29 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Then should there be an infobox at all because of the dormant label? Steelbeard1 (talk) 11:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

House music piping

edit

I noticed you've peen piping house music as house-music. House music is not a single word, it doesn't require a hyphen, "house" is an adjective referring to style. Your use of house-music just creates additional work for you, when simply linking the two separate words will suffice. Cheers. --Pc13 (talk) 15:16, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

When a style of music is used as an adjective, it requires hyphens: “Legendary house-music producer Marhsall Jefferson returned after a 10-year absence from the music industry.” When it is used as a noun, it doesn’t take a hyphen: “Many people like to dance to house music. House music is a feeling.” I hope this clears up why I’ve been doing what I’m doing. I suggest you look at The Chicago Manual of Style for further clarification.
I don't know what the Chicago Manual of Style is, but I know what the English language is. Hyphens are for compost words. House-music does not exist as a compost noun. Do you also write "rock-music," "jazz-music," "trance-music," and "classical-music" with hyphens? --Pc13 (talk) 10:18, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I just demonstrated noun and adjective usage to you. What’s the problem? Peace. —MuzikJunky (talk) 23:13, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re-issue of Mantronix: The Album or New Compilation Album?

edit

I was going to draft a new article on the 2008 Mantronix compilation album until I ran across your edit on The Album. Do you really look at it as a re-issue? I think it would be better as a compilation album, especially since it really doesn't track ALL of the listings on The Album, there is a previously unreleased track on the new album. I didn't want to make a change until you weighed in with your thoughts. Sundevilesq (talk) 20:28, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Gotcha. I also checked on All Music, and it has it as a reissue as well. Good work, bro! Sundevilesq (talk) 21:51, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Afrocentrism

Hi there. I see you put a Neutrality Disputed tag on the Afrocentrism article. Please could you explain on the talk page why you did that, so that we can all engage and resolve? Wdford (talk) 06:58, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I saw your comment on Afrocentrism - fair enough. Deciding on who is radical and who is classical and who is middle-of-the-road is a tough call. Different people have different views - the definitions here have been a problem all along. Bernal does get a mention further down, but if you would like to contribute a paragraph on him that would be great. Wdford (talk) 10:33, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of sourced material

edit

Could you please explain why you deleted sourced material, including genres and album specifics, from the articles Dr. Octagonecologyst and Instrumentalyst (Octagon Beats)? (Ibaranoff24 (talk) 02:07, 10 February 2009 (UTC))Reply

  • I don't know which edits you refer to, but if I removed anything, it was not my intention. Wikipedia is not based on opinion. The styles you removed were sourced, not to mention the album specifics on Instrumentalyst. Multiple sources refer to these albums as alternative and underground hip hop, as well as trip hop. And an instrumental version of an album falls into the same categorization as remix albums. (Ibaranoff24 (talk) 15:57, 10 February 2009 (UTC))Reply

Hi, concerning something

edit

I looked through and I saw that you put in most of your articles Def Jam/IDJMG/Universal Records, physically that's incorrect since Def Jam is a label in it's own right, IDJMG is the parent compant and saying that it's distributed by Universal Records, which, BTW, links to Universal Music Group even though there is a seperate label with that name is incorrect since it says on their page that they're self-distributed. On most of these pages, only the name of the label, which it released it on is OK, not this Def Jam/IDJMG/Universal Records stuff, I also see that you did the same thing using the Record Label/Distributing Label/Parent Label stuff, especially Priority/EMI. Personally I think it doesn't make any sense, but I just wanted to share my opinion on this. Also I don't like that you use the term records by putting it at the end of something like PolyGram Records, first of all, it wasn't a label—it was a music group that distributed other labels releases. --Taylor Karras (talk) 11:05, 8 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

This comes from MTV back in the days. And PolyGram was a record label, one of the big-six majors before 1999. Most of its releases had copyright attributed to PolyGram Records Inc. Besides, I worked in the music industry during the late 1990s. Peace. —MuzikJunky (talk) 08:14, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations on receiving the Dr. Heiter Award!

edit

For your contributions to The Human Centipede (First Sequence), I present you with the Dr. Heiter Award. "Feed!"

Hi, there, and thank you for your contributions to The Human Centipede (First Sequence). When the article was first started in October 2009, it was but a tiny stub that was immediately tagged for deletion, but thanks to the efforts of wikipedia editors, that tiny acorn has grown into a great oak tree of an article. The Human Centipede (First Sequence) now has B-Class status, and on 17th June 2010, the article received its 1,000,000th page view!

The Dr. Heiter Award was created to reward editors who have made positive contributions to the article. It can be presented by any Wikipedia user to anyone who has helped the article grow. This might be by adding new content, fixing any errors, or reverting vandalism.

Thanks!

Mantronik/Mantronix edits

edit

I appreciate the edits you did on the Kurtis Mantronik and Mantronix pages, but several of the edits corrected direct quotes (with sources duly cited). I didn't revert them, because I wanted to get your feedback first. Maybe "sic" notations are in order? Personally, I think quotes, bad grammar and all, should be left the way they are quoted, and those parts of your edits should be reverted. Sundevilesq (talk) 22:54, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

That’s why I used brackets in certain places. I didn’t change the grammar of any of the quotations, but I did change the punctuation in order for it to conform with standard written English. Proposed deletion of Midnight 2: Word is Bond

The article Midnight 2: Word is Bond has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

non-notable per WP:BK

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Unless you can cite something that says otherwise, the cover has neither been widely distributed nor replaced the original. Orphaned non-free media (File:The Best of Fela Kuti.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:The Best of Fela Kuti.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 07:29, 23 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Atlantic Records

edit

Virgin Records was never a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. Rather, Virgin had an on-off US distribution deal with Atlantic—which is not the same thing as being a subsidiary—from 1973-1992. Virgin remained an independent label until it was acquired by Thorn EMI in 1992. Because the labels still had a relationship, I saw no immediately compelling reason to revert your edit. However, you may wish to revert it based on this better understanding of the nature of that relationship. Pstoller (talk) 23:56, 2 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

No indication of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. Replaceable fair use File:PlanetRockSingle.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:PlanetRockSingle.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. George Ho (talk) 09:32, 23 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Astralwerks New.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Astralwerks New.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Yeeno (talk) 09:46, 22 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:The LP.jpeg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:The LP.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:18, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

July 2023

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Graywalls (talk) 05:05, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at But You Caint Use My Phone, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Graywalls (talk) 18:15, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Proposing a deletion of an article you created

edit
== Proposed deletion of Tadesse Alemu ==

The article Tadesse Alemu has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no single reference provided to support it, it seems origional research

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

"Jam on Revenge"

edit

Hi - I've spoken to the article's other main editor Andrzejbanas about this before, but I think this should be renamed "Jam On Revenge", because I think it means "the revenge of Jam On Productions" and not "fruit preserve upon vengeance". I'm pretty certain that Jam On is being used as a phrasal verb here as "keep on jamming" (which would make much more sense) and therefore the particle should be capitalized. All the sources I can find about the song capitalize the "On". Richard3120 (talk) 15:06, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

  The Original Barnstar
Hi,

I was very interested in how you did the research for the Chemical Brothers Exit Planet Dust Chico's Groove Sample by dead drummer Toby Pascoe.

He was a good friend and I wondered how you knew about the sample? Shaun hunter (talk) 16:53, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
