How do Sources work?

Why do the Citations follow the Sources on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Astor,_Viscountess_Astor ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Astor,_Viscountess_Astor#Sources Is there an order that references should follow? APA and MLA always have the first citation to be the complete source, then the following ones just point to an identifier for that source. APA and MLA formulate their identifiers differently. - I'm not sure if you are asking a general question about layout or a more specific question about citation styles.
- First, please be aware that English Wikipedia does not have one single house style for either layout or citations. The general guide for how sections are ordered in articles is at MOS:LAYOUT. The general starting point for citations is Wikipedia:Citing sources, while your particular point is probably best addressed by the section titled Citation style. If you are creating a new article, you can use your own editorial judgment and preferences to select among the several acceptable styles. If you are editing an existing article, you are expected to adhere to the article's already-established style.
- The default order in which references are listed is the order in which they are cited in the article. Some citation styles allow different orderings. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 05:02, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

- Roger that. Thanks for the reminder. It would be helpful to have a definition for "closed" or to disallow posting altogether. MichelleInSanMarcos (talk) 11:50, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
