Wikiproject banners
editWikiproject banners go on article talk pages, not on the articles themselves, so I'll remove the ones you added today. Good luck with the new project! -- John of Reading (talk) 11:56, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

editJust so you know, you can use the "Show preview" button before using the Save page button to check how any change to the page will affect it. This will allow you to test changes to things without creating a long chain of tiny edits--Mrmatiko (talk) 17:49, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
your proposed Portal
editHi, I saw an IP reverted my requested edit on your proposed portal. I discussed this in IRC:
- I never saw a project/portal with images around the headlines
- the images are too small to be useful
- images are bad and increase the loading times!
I added a "dirty hack" to one of the headlines, and with this HTML table, I would be able to "move" the text to the correct hight between the images. If you can show me other portal pages (or wikiprojects) with images in the "section" headers, I would add/create a new parameter to the template. Regards, mabdul 12:45, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
With respect, I request you stop spamming your requests
editI don't know what criteria you are using to decide who to contact, but for example - a bot is probably not an editor interested in your project. Neither is a user who has not contributed since 2006. Please narrow down your notification criteria. Thanks! Syrthiss (talk) 15:18, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- First its not spam, and i am just inviting people? is it not allowed?McKinseies (talk) 15:20, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- And yes bot was invited by mistake lolMcKinseies (talk) 15:21, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Please read WP:CANVASS. Inviting people is fine. Inviting everyone who has ever touched an article in your area is not, especially when some of those people are bots or users who have ceased editing. I've noticed at least one more bot and several more users who no longer edit. If you cull them from your list you also are saving yourself the time you are wasting by informing editors who will never respond. Syrthiss (talk) 15:24, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Bots were mistake i said and user who dont edit now i dont know how to identify it.McKinseies (talk) 15:27, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- For every editor that you are informing, when you go to edit their talk page it is easy enough to click on 'user contributions' on the toolbox and see when they last edited. I'd say anyone who stopped editing before 2011 is a waste of time for you. Hope that is helpful. :) Syrthiss (talk) 15:28, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thanx for the suggestion...but i dont think if someone last edited something before 2006 then they cant edit now so invited lolMcKinseies (talk) 15:34, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Ok, then don't say you weren't warned when you are likely blocked for spamming by another administrator (other than myself) when they notice. Also, I reverted two of your edits that were made to user's userpages and not to their talk pages (User:Warut and one other). Please be more careful. Syrthiss (talk) 15:47, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hey i am stopping it. it was just without warning. Pls helpMcKinseies (talk) 15:50, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Oh my God!!! i dont want to get blockedMcKinseies (talk) 15:49, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
At the moment, you are because you started tagging multiple people's userpages. If you can fix your editing so you can avoid doing that, I'll unblock you immediately. It was just too hard to keep up with reversions without blocking you. Syrthiss (talk) 15:51, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- you must have warned atleast i thought that i am inviting and you just pursued that i am spamming it so i wasnt knowing this is not allowed. Pls unblock me i will only do it to selected people now and to the very selected only so pls unblock meMcKinseies (talk) 15:57, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- The current issue isn't who you are contacting, it is that you are editing their userpages (for example here) instead of their user talk pages. You can continue how you want, just make sure you put your notices on the talk pages and not the userpages. Going to unblock you now. Syrthiss (talk) 15:59, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- So can i still invite as many people as i can from talk pages?McKinseies (talk) 16:00, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- I recommend being more selective, but yes I am not going to stop you from doing that. I don't guarantee that another administrator will not block you if you continue, though. Syrthiss (talk) 16:02, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Ok i am going to continue selective invitations only and on talk pages i think user pages edits was another mistake

Speedy deletion of redirects
editThe fact that a page has been moved is never, in itself, a reason for speedy deletion of the resulting redirect, and very often there are good reasons for not deleting such redirects. For example, an article has existed at Rama Nand for a few months short of three years. It is quite likely that there will be links to this, whether in Wikipedia, on other web sites, on individual people's computers, or wherever, and removing the redirect would cause all such links to be lost, which would be unhelpful. Also, even if the article had only just been created and then immediately moved, it is perfectly likely that someone might search for "Rama Nand" on Wikipedia, so having the redirect can be helpful. There is absolutely no harm at all in keeping the redirect once it has been created, so we may as well keep it in case someone finds it useful. There are sometimes good reasons for deleting redirects, but the fact that the article has been moved is not such a reason. You may like to look at the speedy deletion criteria to see what are acceptable reasons for speedy deletion. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:25, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- Also, a comment on moving articles. Wikipedia's manual of style specifies that an article title should be the name most commonly recognised in English. I can find no evidence that "Guru Ravidass" is more common than "Guru Ravidas". in fact, if anything, there seems to be some evidence that it may be the other way round: for example, a Google search for "Guru Ravidas" produces 915,000 hits, as against 741,000 for "Guru Ravidass". The number of Google hits is not a reliable guide, but without any evidence that "Guru Ravidass" is significantly more common, and with at least some evidence that "Guru Ravidas" may be, it is better to leave the article where it has been for years, as people are likely to expect it to be there. (Also, there are 179 links to Guru Ravidas from other Wikipedia pages, so this illustrates another reason why deleting a redirect to a moved page is not very often not a good idea, in addition to what I said above.)
- For those reasons, I have moved the article back, but left a redirect to it at Guru Ravidass. It may be that you have, in fact, got a good reason for the move. If so, please let me know on my talk page, and I will be willing to consider reverting my move. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:03, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- Did u get my message?McKinseies (talk) 13:17, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

- Did u get my message?McKinseies (talk) 13:17, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- I am copying your message from my talk page to here, so as to keep all discussion of the issue in one place. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:22, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- There is a strong reason to move all pages.
- 1.Guru Ravi "Dass" , Dass is a caste in India so many people have kept their name after it and using Dass as suffix which has double SS rather than single S thats why the page was moved.
- 2. Using double SS in all pages of Ravidassia Religion will bring uniformity in all pages.McKinseies (talk) 13:11, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I accept that. I should have asked you first, before making the move, but I've moved it back again now. Thanks for explaining. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:21, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
WikiProject Ravidassia banners
editHi! When placing the {{WikiProject Ravidassia}} on article talk pages, make sure you do not transclude (that is, {{subst:WikiProject Ravidassia}}) the banner. WikiProject banners are not transcluded like this and it creates at least several issues for categorization/template usage/parsing. Regards. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 11:23, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
New Timeline of Ravidassia article
editThe Original Barnstar | ||
Just a thank you for creating the new Timeline of Ravidassia article. Your efforts to improve the encyclopedia are appreciated. Northamerica1000(talk) 20:00, 27 February 2012 (UTC) |
- Hi. This article was listed at the copyright problems board and is now blanked. I presume that you became distracted by other tasks after your indication on February 28th (Talk:Timeline_of_Ravidassia#About the CV) that you would rewrite the copyright issues within 4-5 days, as it has now been more than 30 and the content remains in the article. I'm afraid we cannot retain copyright issues forever. While I understand from your notes there that you did not realize that you could not copy or closely follow content from newspapers, I'm afraid that we do have to comply with copyright policies; see Wikipedia:Copy-paste for more information.
- Please do not edit the page itself, but place your rewrite at Talk:Timeline of Ravidassia/Temp. In courtesy, I have copied over the table elements and your leads, but you should not copy over the text that formerly populated the table, as this is likely to create a derivative work. While you can copy content that you wrote from scratch yourself, please be very sure that you wrote the content from scratch. If copied content is found in the proposed rewrite, it is likely to be deleted.
- Please attend to this within the next week, or there is a chance the article will be stubbed or deleted. If you have questions about copyright policy or about how to rewrite material, you are welcome to come by my talk page. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:48, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the invitation, but no thanks
editYou did spike my interest in just what Ravidassia was, but I have no knowledge of the subject and as such would not be a good member. I did review you Project page and made a minor edit of removing a circular link that links right back to where you started. Good luck with your project. Dbiel (Talk) 02:36, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
Concerns with List of Ravidassias Gotras footnoting
editGreetings, I have concerns about your footnotes to Ibbetson on List of Ravidassias Gotras. Do those footnotes actually verify that the specified gotras are members of the Ravidassia or religion, or are you just linking to pages which confirm said groups of people exist? I'm not seeing either on the specified page (pg150) in the edition of the book linked. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:51, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
The article List of Ravidassia religious places has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:55, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

- A few talk-page posting tips:
- Please ensure you sign each and every post on a Talk page that you make, either by typing ~~~~ or by hitting the "sign" button at the control panel at the top of your editing screen (the button with the pen, two to the right of the big "letter A" buttons.)
- If you're posting a lengthy website address (URL), instead of letting it spill everywhere like this: http://books.google.com/books?id=GZwD7EqLcAUC&pg=PA328&dq=kallar caste black&hl=en&sa=X&ei=HWeDT9SoLdPbggf9mJy4Bw&ved=0CFgQ6AEwBzgU#v=onepage&q=kallar caste&f=false please instead put brackets "[ ]" around it, and inside the bracket type a brief description. For example: [http://www.google.com link to Google] (make sure to leave one space between the URL and the description) will appear as link to Google. For the above huge URL, note how I can reduce it to please info on Kallar caste from Rural Society in Southeast India By Kathleen Gough. Please do this when posting URLs so they don't clutter up the page.
- Hope this helps, and look forward to discussing with you how best to develop the Ravidassia articles on Wikipedia. MatthewVanitas (talk) 14:49, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

editPlease do not remove the {{copyvio}} template from articles. Your action has been reverted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted, and removing copyright notices will not help your case. You can properly contest the deletion at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. If you are the owner of the material, you may release the material under the Creative Commons and GFDL licenses, as detailed at WP:IOWN. Alternatively, you are welcome to create a draft in your own words at a temporary subpage linked from the article. If you continue to insert copyright violations and/or remove copyright notices, you may be blocked from editing. GabrielF (talk) 19:29, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
- Gabriel i tried rephrasing it again and to avoid close paraphrasing it even thats not allowed so what the matter i just dont want to delete it. Pls helpMcKinseies (talk) 16:20, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- The problem is that you can't remove the copyvio message unless you are an administrator. However, you are welcome to create a temporary article where you can put the text that you've rephrased. You'll see under "Can you help resolve this issue?" that the third blue-highlighted text says "Otherwise, you may write a new article without copyright-infringing material. Click "Show" to read where and how." If you click "show" - immediately to the left - you'll see a link to where to put the temporary article. When an administrator or copyright holder deals with the article, they'll look at the temporary page you've created and if there are no problems, they'll transfer that text back into the article. I hope this helps. GabrielF (talk) 18:29, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Rewrite
editI realize that it may be challenging to write content in original language, but I'm afraid that we cannot keep copyright problems around. On February 28, you indicated that you would rewrite the content within 4 to 5 days. You did not edit it again until you tried to remove the copyright template and restore the material to publication. Since it has been three weeks since the article was blanked, it has now been deleted. I had prepared a base for your rewrite on March 31st, which I have now moved to User:McKinseies/Timeline of Ravidassia/Temp. If you want to rewrite the article within policies, you can do so there, but please be careful not to copy from your sources.
While you wrote on the talk page, "This article is based off of newspaper references, but was NOT copied from them", your article included content like "Special rituals were conducted and feasts were also arranged in the temple. Devotees dress up as Guru Ravidass or his associates, and dance to some of his devotional songs." [cf. http://www.indiavision.com/news/article/national/21424/1/print/, which says, "Special rituals and feasts were also arranged in the temple. Devotees dress up as Ravidas or his associates, and dance to some of his devotional songs."] and "The entire Seer village was gripped in festive fervour witnessing arrival of a number of followers and devotees including women, the area around the temple also turned into a fair site, witnessing the presence of a number of stalls coming up with different kinds of items including garments, books, posters and toys to mark the occasion." (cf. http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-02-08/varanasi/31036866_1_holy-dip-devotees-ravidas-jayanti, which says, "The entire Seer village was gripped in festive fervour witnessing arrival of a number of followers and devotees including women since morning on the occasion, the area around the temple also turned into a fair site, witnessing the presence of a number of stalls coming up with different kinds of items including garments, books, posters and toys to mark the occasion.")
What you wrote at the talk page indicates that you may not have understood that newspaper articles are copyrighted, but I assure you that they are. Take a look at the bottom of the Times of India article, for instance: "THE TIMES OF INDIA© 2012 Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. All rights reserved". You can't use their language just to make it look good; you have to describe the events that they are talking about in your own words.
Please review Wikipedia:Copy-paste and Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. These are important policies to grasp and master. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:02, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
Nomination of List of Ravidassia gotras for deletion
editA discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of Ravidassia gotras is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Ravidassia gotras until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Hahc21 [TALK][CONTRIBS] 21:17, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
The article List of Ravidassia religious places has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- This an address list for places of worship and needs to be deleted as per WP:NOTDIR. Only one place of worship appears likely to be notable, Shri Guru Ravidass Janam Asthan and that's currently completely unreferenced, so not a good merge / redirect target.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stuartyeates (talk) 06:16, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment.
