Academy Awards / Nationalities of Acting Winners
editFrom: User talk:Joseph A. Spadaro
Re: Academy Award for Best Actor, Academy Award for Best Actress, Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, & Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress
Hello! I noticed that you had added a "Nationalities" section to the Best Actor page several weeks ago. That was a great idea, and I really liked it a lot. Thanks for your contributions in improving the Best Actor article! As you noticed, I went in and made some stylistic / aesthetic changes to the information. After you had created this Best Actor chart ... I thought that it was such a great idea, that I started to do a chart for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. I got started on all of these three new charts ... but then I got very busy with other things, and I was not yet able to finish them. And, just today, I noticed that you added a similar chart to the Best Actress page. Great work! Anyway, since I did a lot of the preliminary template work already ... you don't have to go and re-invent the wheel and do a lot of unnecessary work yourself. If you want to, please take a look at the following pages from my User Sandbox:
- User:Joseph A. Spadaro/Sandbox/Page19 - These are the preliminary templates that I created for the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress pages. Please feel free to "copy and paste" them, if you want to. The top chart on this Sandbox Page is what I was starting to work on for Best Supporting Actor ... and the bottom chart on this Sandbox Page is what I was starting to work on for Best Supporting Actress. If you want to use these templates, please "copy" and paste them ... not "cut" and paste them. Thanks.
- User:Joseph A. Spadaro/Sandbox/Page21 - This is the chart that I started to create (but never had a chance to finish) for the Best Actress page. In other words, it was a draft and a "work in progress" not yet completed. If you would like to, please feel free to review it and see if there is anything there that is helpful to the chart you just added to the Best Actress page today. There may have been some items / details that I neglected or overlooked, and left out of my chart --- that you did not neglect and included in your chart. Similarly, there may have been some items / details that you neglected or overlooked, and left out of your chart --- that I did not neglect and included in my (draft / work in progress) chart.
So, please feel free to take a look if you'd like --- and to "copy and paste" from my User Sandbox pages whatever you think might be helpful and useful to you. Thanks. Once again, great job! I really like your additions, and I am glad to see them in these Academy Award acting articles! Great idea! If you want, please reply back to me at my Talk Page (here) ------> User talk:Joseph A. Spadaro. Thank you. Please let me know your thoughts --- I hope to hear back from you. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 19:49, 17 November 2007 (UTC))

Proposal to Remove Your Nationality Tables from Academy Award Articles
editFrom: User talk:Joseph A. Spadaro
Re: Academy Award for Best Actor, Academy Award for Best Actress, Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, & Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress
Hello. I had left a message for you on your Talk Page back on November 17, and I was hoping that you would get back to me. But, I have not heard from you as of yet.
I thought you might like to know that a Wikipedia editor is proposing to remove your Nationality of Winners tables from these four articles: Academy Award for Best Actor, Academy Award for Best Actress, Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, & Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
If you would like to weigh in on the discussion, please leave your thoughts and comments on the Talk Pages for each of the four articles: Talk:Academy Award for Best Actor, Talk:Academy Award for Best Actress, Talk:Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, & Talk:Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
I would hate to see all of those tables deleted from Wikipedia ... and I would hate to see all of that work you did go to waste. I will support keeping the tables ... and will oppose any efforts to delete them. Hopefully, you will weigh in on the discussions at the Talk Pages also. In any event, I thought that you might want to be made aware of this proposal to delete all of your work ... so I took it upon myself to inform you. If you want, please reply back to me at my Talk Page (here) ------> User talk:Joseph A. Spadaro. Please let me know your thoughts on all of this --- I hope to hear back from you. Thank you. First of all, it may be overdue, but thanks for reformatting the page. My question has to do with the Peter Finch entry. Should his age be as of the date of the ceremony or his death, since the win was posthumous? This may be an issue in a few months if Heath Ledger should receive a posthumous Supporting Actor win over a year after his death. Jzummak (talk) 02:46, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks for the note. Wow, I have not thought about that article in quite some time! I appreciate the "thank you" ... that was nice of you. And you are 100% correct that this same scenario probably will arise with Heath Ledger. Just so you know ... the Academy itself uses the date of the ceremony -- not the date of the death -- in cases of posthumous awards and nominations. So, I think that we should go with what the Academy itself uses. In essence, the Academy lists the "time span" from the date of birth to the date of the award/nomination. When a nominee/winner is still alive, that "time span" is exactly the same as that person's chronological age. When a nominee/winner is dead (as in the case of posthumous nominations and awards), that "time span" is greater than his actual chronological age at death. My vote is to stick with what the Academy does ... and I think their system makes a lot of sense. The same thing, by the way, happened with James Dean. Not only once, but twice, Dean was posthumously nominated: once, in the ceremony after his death and again the following year. What are your thoughts? Please reply at my Talk Page. Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 03:30, 14 October 2008 (UTC))
- Hi. It's me again. It seems you don't check your Talk Page very often. If you do have any further questions about this, please feel free to send me a message at my Talk Page. Thanks a lot. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 22:25, 30 October 2008 (UTC))
Succession boxes vs. templates
editHi. I was wondering if you could direct me to the discussion where consensus was reached that the present succession boxes for awards be replaced with more complicated templates on actor biographies? Was it raised at WP:ACTOR, which oversees these articles? Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 07:33, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Possibility of reformatting Acting Oscar pages
editHave you consider reformatting the pages for the acting Oscar winners and Best Picture in the style of the Best Director page? I've also thought about including the winners' pictures, but that may be too much.Jzummak (talk) 02:44, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks for the message. It's funny that you ask because ... actually ... I had been thinking of the exact opposite! I had noticed that the Best Director format was the only one that didn't "match" all the others. So, at one point, I had planned to change the Best Director page to make it "look like" all the others. I had not given it any thought beyond that. I assume that you think the Best Director format looks better than the others? Why do you like that one better? What do you like about that set-up? I am just curious. As far as the pictures ... I am guessing that that will be difficult. First, people are forever deleting pictures because we don't have the copyright (or whatever) to publish them. So, I always see pictures added, then deleted, then added, then deleted, etc. Also, adding pictures for all of the actors would take a huge amount of space ... so I assume that you mean only a select few? Also, back to the first item I mentioned. Some people, upon seeing pictures, will think that they can just add any photo they want of their favorite actor ... which means the pages / photos will constantly be getting changed / deleted / etc. I don't necessarily think that adding photo's is a bad idea. I am just pre-emptively offering some concerns that may arise. Feel free to reply at my Talk Page. Thanks. PS ... Quite frankly, when I have time, I was considering revamping all of the Academy Awards winners pages, anyway ... at least the "main ones" (Acting, Directing, Best Picture, etc.). It's still on my back burner. Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 05:05, 17 March 2009 (UTC))
Making unneeded changes
editPlease do not change pages for the sake of changing them. You added a new template for Oscar winning original screenplays when there was already one in place. These kind of vanity changes help no one. Only change or add if it contributes to something, not just to leave your stamp on something.Donmike10 (talk) 15:54, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- I apologize for any inconvenience. I only saw the templates for Picture, Directing, and Acting, and felt your templates didn't match the format. While the others were in twenty-year intervals (1941-1960, 1961-1980, etc.), yours go by decades (1950-1959, 1960-1969, etc.). Would you consider changing yours or merging them to fit the established format? Jzummak (talk) 21:35, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- By all means, these thing are here to be changed or merged, just not ignored entirely. I can do it or whomever.Donmike10 (talk) 22:19, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'm sorry the reply is so late. Would you be willing to merge your templates with mine to match the established format (20 years)? Jzummak (talk) 06:34, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

editI've tracked the losses since the beginning and very rarely the last two tie and they both go to FTW but if Hardwick takes the loser on to FTW, they still lost and there was no tie so why is it being recorded as a tie? Inquiry from The Washington Post
editHi there,
My name is Sonia, and I write for The Washington Post. I'm interested in pursuing a story about Wikipedia users who update/edit pages detailing specific histories of the Academy Awards (e.g. "List of black Academy Award winners and nominees," "90th Academy Awards"). I believe you might have edited a similar page recently, perhaps during the ceremony. People who are simply curious often end up on these informative pages, and I believe our readers might find it interesting to hear the story behind the quick edits — are there some Wikipedia users who wait for the awards to be announced and then update the pages immediately? How do you keep track of all the history? And so on.
If you'd be interested in chatting with me, please let me know as soon as possible. I can be reached at [email protected].
Thanks! Sonia

Disambiguation link notification for May 7
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Rachel True, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Better Things (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
