Avoid technical details in plot.
Thank you for providing an explanation for your reversions of my changes to the plot section of Saving_Mr._Banks. Unfortunately, I do not understand how my edits had any more technical details than the text I changed. Let's start with the first sentence. I changed
- Disney belatedly realizes that Travers is writing under a pen name; her real name is Helen Goff, and she’s actually Australian, not British.
to
- Just then, Disney learns that Travers is writing under a pen name. Her real name is Helen Goff, and she’s actually Australian, not British.
What technical detail does that change introduce? Butwhatdoiknow (talk) 13:18, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- You're welcome. That particular instance did not actually have any major technical detail. Instead, what immediately followed those sentences did; Travers' door bell rings and it is Disney. He had caught the next flight after hers out of Los Angeles. I have since rewritten this part of the plot again to be more concise. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 21:42, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Regarding your reversion of the sentence that "did not actually have any major technical detail," in the future, if I may be so bold, I suggest you consider leaving in unobjectional text rather than doing complete reversions. Butwhatdoiknow (talk) 14:13, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Turning to what immediately follows, I suggest the current text (which tells the reader that Disney caught the next plane before saying that he appears unexpectedly at Travers' door) does not reflect the plot of the movie (the audience learns of Disney's flight when Travers does). Your thoughts? Butwhatdoiknow (talk) 14:13, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Per WP:FILMPLOT, events that happen during the film do not have to be written chronologically as they appear on screen. In fact, scenes can be reordered if such an action improves the plot's understanding. The current text improves the fluency in the paragraph by removing two awkward sentences and rewriting them so that it summarizes the scene's events more cohesively. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 17:50, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

In this edit i think you should have included the first name brkhad too because the cast-list here shows two other cast-members with derivatives of the name Abdi; this would make it more clear. Thank you. Pass a Method talk 10:29, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
Lyndsey Turner
Hello! I've been a great admirer of British theatre and a greater admirer of this theatre director named Lyndsey Turner. I signed up to create a wikipedia page for her but I can't seem to because of some block and only an administrator like you can unblock it. Would you mind helping me with this? She has directed more than a dozen plays in the West End and the Royal Shakespeare Company and she is currently getting great reviews for her Broadway debut with Rebecca Hall. I just think a wikipedia page is long overdue. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by IndianSuburb (talk • contribs) 14:41, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
Edit summaries
Hi there. I just wanted to drop a quick note about using edit summaries. It makes it much quicker for other editors to understand your edits when you fill out the edit summary. For example, you could have written "removing Category:IMAX films" when removing that category on Frozen (2013 film) and that would instantly let other editors know what you were doing without having to comb through each edit.
Just a reminder. Thanks! --Andrew (User:90) (talk) 00:41, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- That actually wasn't a good example, since you were reverting another user's edit in that case, but the point still remains: edit summaries should be used on 100% of edits so everyone can quickly see what's being done. They are still missing on a lot of your recent edits. Thanks! --Andrew (User:90) (talk) 00:44, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Feedback needed on using special characters
Hello. Thank you for using VisualEditor! Having editors use it is the best way for the Wikimedia Foundation to develop it into the best tool it can be.
While we always welcome general feedback (please report any issues in Bugzilla in the "VisualEditor" product or drop your feedback on the central feedback page on MediaWiki.org), the developers are especially interested right now in feedback on the special character inserter. This new tool is used for inserting special characters (including symbols like ₥, IPA pronunciation symbols, mathematics symbols, and characters with diacritics). It is intended to help people whose computers do not have good character inserters. For example, many Mac users prefer to use the extensive "Special Characters..." tool present at the bottom of the Edit menu in all applications or to learn the keyboard shortcuts for characters like ñ and ü.
The current version of the special characters tool in VisualEditor is very simple and very basic. It will be getting a lot of work in the coming weeks and months. It does not contain very many character sets at this time. (The specific character sets can be customized at each Wikipedia, so that each project could have a local version with the characters it wants.) But the developers want your ideas at this early stage about ways that the overall concept could be improved. I would appreciate your input on this question, so please try out the character inserter and tell me what changes to the design would (or would not!) best work for you.
Issues you might consider:
- How often do you normally use Wikipedia's character inserters?
- Which character sets are useful to you? Should it include all 18 of the character sets provided in the wikitext editor's newer toolbar at the English Wikipedia, the 10 present in the older editor toolbar, or some other combination of character sets?
- How many special characters would you like to see at one time?
- Should there be a "priority" or "favorites" section for the 10 or 12 characters that most editors need most often? Is it okay if you need an extra click to go beyond the limited priority set?
- How should the sections be split up? Should they be nested? Ordered?
- How should the sections be navigated? Should there be a drop-down? A nested menu?
- The wikitext editor has never included many symbols and characters, like ℗ and ♀. Do you find that you need these missing characters? If the character inserter in VisualEditor includes hundreds or thousands of special characters, will it be overwhelming? How will you find the character you want? What should be done for users without enough space to display more than a few dozen characters?
- Should the character inserter be statically available until dismissed? Should it hover near the mouse? Should it go away on every selection or 10 seconds after a selection with no subsequent ones?
- Some people believe that the toolbar already has too many options—how would you simplify it?
The developers are open to any thoughts on how the special character inserter can best be developed, even if this requires significant changes. Please leave your views on the central feedback page, or, if you'd prefer, you can contact me directly on my talk page. It would be really helpful if you can tell me how frequently you need to use special characters in your typical editing and what languages or other special characters are important to you.
Thank you again for your work with VisualEditor and for any feedback you can provide. I really do appreciate it.
P.S. You might be interested in the current ideas about improving citations, too. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 00:20, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Amusement Parks Article Clean-Up
Recently, an issue has been brought up regarding the notability of many articles within WikiProject Amusement Parks. As a result, a page has been created regarding this issue as well as a possible solution (which will be on-going). In a nut-shell, certain articles will be picked to be reviewed in each stage and the WikiProject members (you) will decide if the article should be deleted or kept based on Wikipedia's notability guidelines.
I hoping this will work and if it doesn't, oh well...I tried.

Certification
I noticed that you extrapolated the certification for Let It Go (Disney song) into sales. Please note that this is not correct any more. US certification now includes streaming, therefore a platinum-selling song can sell a lot less than a million. Hzh (talk) 23:09, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Frozen accolades page
Hi. Hope you're well. I was wondering if you would consider removing Awardscircuit, Gold Derby, IGN, International Cinephile Society, International 3D Society's Creative Arts Awards, Made-in-Hollywood Awards, Nevada Film Critics Society, North Carolina Film Critics Association, UK Regional Critics' Film Awards and Youreviewers Movie Awards from the list of accolades for Frozen for non-notability as they don't yet have a separate page on wiki as per WP:INDISCRIMINATE and on [[1]]. For Awardscircuit, it seems like it was voted on as an internet poll of users of a website which again strikes against its notability.Cowlibob (talk) 13:04, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- Done I removed all the aforementioned ones except for the International 3D Society's Creative Arts Awards, the Made-in-Hollywood Awards, and the UK Regional Critics' Film Awards, as those have received coverage from notable third-party publications such as The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 20:54, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Hannah Montana: The Movie
I can't read the billing block on the poster for Hannah Montana: The Movie. Even the source at http://impawards.com/2009/hannah_montana_the_movie.html is too hard to read. I assume you must have a better copy available. Do you have a link? I'm asking because the credits that you've changed don't match either the opening or closing credits of the actual movie. --AussieLegend (✉) 18:41, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- I admit that the billing block is hard to read, but with enough examination I was able to decipher this copy I found online. The first half states: Walt Disney Pictures presents Miley Cyrus "Hannah Montana: The Movie" a Millar/Gough Ink production a Peter Chelsom film Emily Osment Jason Earles Melora Hardin with Vanessa Williams and Billy Ray Cyrus. The billing block on the North American poster also matches the billing block on the easier-to-read Latin American poster (albeit some parts are in a different language). ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 18:59, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- I found the discussion that resulted in the change to the infobox instructions. It was aimed at resolving the problem with the length of the starring list but went far beyond that in the changes that were made. The movie posters are obviously hard to find, and almost impossible to read, where the movie itself is easy to find, so it would seem to make more sense to follow the credits in the movie. That said, the opening and end credits of this movie are different, so that makes three different sets of credits. I can see this one being problematic, being based on a TV series, especially as MOS:FILM and the infobox differ regarding how to credit starring cast. --AussieLegend (✉) 19:12, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'd personally just go with the original billing on the poster, since that's how it's done on the majority of film articles. Film credits are often reserved for the Cast section (as it's done on this article) since they are typically longer than the credits in the billing block, which may result in an issue as to where the cut-off point should be for the infobox. ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 19:27, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- It's based on a kids' TV program and that's always problematic. TV series use the in-episode credits, which is what the article did when the movie first aired. We had a lot of problem with the cast lists back then but it's been stable since the notes were added. With the in-article cast list now different to the infobox it's just asking for trouble. --AussieLegend (✉) 19:45, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- I still don't see why we have to have this article align itself to the same cast format of the television series (the film and show are two entirely separate productions). Numerous film articles have slightly different-ordered cast lists in their infoboxes and prose sections. However, if you really do feel this strongly about avoiding the billing block format on this article, then I won't vehemently argue against it; I only performed the edits in the first place, so that they adhered to article policy. ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 20:08, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

1970-1979 in film
"Reverting other editors' edits (which have already been discussed and agreed on) is actually unconstructive."
The lists of top grossing films on the pages of 1961 in film through 1979 in film are ALL my own edits. You, in fact, are the one who is reverting another editor's work and it's your content deletions that are unconstructive. Those pages represent countless hours of research and editing that are literally being obliterated due to your own personal preference for "consistency". It's not a cause that justifies deleting large amount of content from articles on Wikipedia as there is no regulation or guideline that dictates a predetermined number. Providing this information in such detail in fact exposes readers to lesser known films (and hence Wikipedia articles) from those years that have been forgotten in the passage of time and helps to shape the readers' understanding of what the movie going trends were during those years. The information enables one to comprehend the political and social zeitgeist of those respective time periods, which is critical in understanding the history of film which reflects that social atmosphere. And implementing large deletions of content is inverse to the goal of this online encyclopedia which is to inform.

X-Men
Firstly, I am pleased to say that American-British has been removed of X-Men: Days of Future Past page. However alphabetical is not the way countries work on Wikipedia. Do not add American-British again. Films with more than one countries are often left to the country section. In X-Men:DOFP British-American was more accurate. Films set in studio backlots
Your new Category:Films set in studio backlots may not apply to The Girl (2012 HBO film) or The Artist (film). They had scenes in studio sound stages and offices, but I don't remember any set in the studio backlots. I saw both many months ago, so perhaps there's a scene or two... Gothicfilm (talk) 23:43, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
- I actually created Category:Films set in studio backlots with the intention of encompassing all of those film production facilities (headquarters, main lot, backlot, soundstages, offices, etc.). I must have forgotten to properly define the category at the time. I'll adjust it accordingly. ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 00:04, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
- You need to rename the category as well. The simplest would be Category:Films set in studio lots or Category:Films set on studio lots. I've removed movie ranches from the definition, as they are always in a different area - usually miles away in the outlaying areas. Readers would not expect them to be in this category. If you still really want to include the ranches, you should call the category something like Category:Films set in studio facilities, but I wouldn't recommend it as even that would not be expected to include movie ranches. They are literally separate facilities. - Gothicfilm (talk) 22:42, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
- I think Category:Films set in studio lots would be the best case. I'll request a rename on that category as soon as possible. I also agree with excluding movie ranches (I don't think there any films that even fit that specific criteria anyhow). Thanks for the input! ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 00:09, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
DYK for Frozen (2013 film)
On 26 June 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Frozen (2013 film), which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Frozen is currently the highest-grossing animated film of all time, and the fifth highest-grossing film? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Frozen (2013 film). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

DW II Holding Co. LLC. to DreamWorks
I figured I'd inform you that while it definitely was correct to ultimately rename DW II Holding Co. LLC. back to DreamWorks, you did so by copying the content and pasting; such moves, termed "cut-and-paste moves", are undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. I've already requested that the article histories be merged, but in the future, it is best to go to requested moves in this circumstance. (Unfortunately, the move page function was impossible here, as this situation resulted from the seven moves made by Ransi124 (talk · contribs).) --WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 00:38, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. If it wasn't for the fact that the move function was unavailable, I wouldn't have done it haphazardly like that. Desperate times led to desperate measures on my part (I was still in the midst of deciphering what was done to that page when I did that). ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 00:45, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

There's an administrator who keeps on excluding The Fifth Estate on Benedict Cumberbatch's lead paragraph. Infinity on High & Fueled By Ramen
Hello, thank you for your edit on Infinity on High regarding the record label. On the back of the CD, the copyright is only to The Island Def Jam Music Group, and Fueled By Ramen was only added out of courtesy. I asked Fall Out Boy's vocalist Patrick Stump on Twitter about this to confirm it: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2gxitsn&s=8#.VEo1CfmUexU. In addition, Fueled By Ramen's discography page has no mention of Fall Out Boy. The band's last release under FBR was the My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue EP (2004) before they moved to Island Records. Can you remove Fueled By Ramen from Infinity's article now?
