Article Licensing
editHi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

James Dobson article categorization
editYou removed a link to a perfectly reasonable category: Category:Child-beating advocates, which can easily stretch to include all those who advocate beating children into submission. (Remember, authority is the person who is bigger than you, and has the gun/fist/iron bar). Which part do you not believe to be reasonable? As Dobson freely admits, he advocates the beating of children until they cry, followed, if necessary, by more of the same. Thus:
- child: James Dobson advocates the beating of children
- beating: James Dobson advocates the beating of children
- advocates: James Dobson advocates the beating of children
Which part of this do you not agree with? -- The Anome 14:41, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)
Geo-stub for Riphaeus Mountains

DB-9 aka DE-9 connector pictures
editTHere's some good pictures at D-subminiature - after I saw that article I thought there was no need for DE-9, DB-25, DA-36 etc. to have their own pages - among the things Wikipedia is not or ought not to be is a parts catalog. Incomplete VFD nominations
editPlease check WP:VFD at the bottom. You seem to be leaving out step 3 and no one will vote unless you do that step. Also, please check out the nifty template in step 2. Your nomination pages haven't been in the standard format (and it will look weird in the VFD list otherwise).
I fixed the clarion village and balefire (book series) nominations but the rest of your nominations should be checked to make sure they get voted on. If you go to the vote page and do a what links here, there should be a link from a page link Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Log/2005 June 15 that indicates step 3 was finished. Composers
editHi there--noticed you'd taken out the "Composers" category as redundant in the Eric Qin article, as there was an "American composers" link there already. I've been making it a point to list new American composers in both categories as they're not mutually exclusive but I see your reasoning. One question, though: as every composer is from a particular nation, why does the "Composers" category exist? Only for composers whose nationality is not known? Hope you can fill me in on this. Thanks --Badagnani
- No problem. Our practice is to create new xxx-by-country categories whenever we have enough entries to make one worthwhile and leave the remaining in the generic category. We wouldn't likely create a category Category:Egyptian ski jumpers given the lack of them and would instead just tag any that do exist with Category:Ski jumpers and Category:Egyptian sportspeople. The subcategories exist to reduce the amount of overload on the generic categories and make the rare individuals easier to spot. The actual Composers category, with 130 articles, is getting a bit on the heavy side, I'm sure most of them could be moved to more descriptive subcategories (by country and/or other characteristics) Hope that helps. --Hooperbloob 04:28, 16 July 2005 (UTC)
Yes, completely. I'm actually doing my dissertation on an Egyptian composer (not ski jumper)! A lot of the new composers listed under "Composers" are mine, and can thus probably be removed from there as I think all of them were also listed under their nationality (no extremely obscure countries among them). One more question, as I'm fairly new at this: how do you all get your signatures with user page link, time, and date in your "Talk" postings? Mine always show up without this. Thanks again. --Badagnani
- I wondered about that too until I discovered the 'signature' button at the top of the edit window, 2nd from the end. You can either click that button or write out the macro yourself...its just a two dashes followed by four tilde characters, Wikipedia then does the substitution for you. --Hooperbloob 04:38, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

- Whoa! Are you sure that deletion of the actual category was the final concensus of the CFD? The issue being discussed was depopulation of numerous
articles that used it for no reason.--Hooperbloob 14:10, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, I am quite sure. I have been doing CFD for quite awhile, and I'm one of the main maintenance editors. You can goto WP:CFD and look at to be emptied/moved. The only things not being deleted, per consensus, are the sub-cats. I am not the admin who closed it, so I am following directions to the letter for cleanup. ∞Who?¿? 18:27, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, I just wanted to appologize if I came off a bit rash. Its difficult to do some of the mass re-cat's, and I try to do the best I can in proper cat'ing and fixing errors as I go. That particular CFD was not so cut & dry. We collaborated and thought it should probably be deleted, but I compared it to other cat's and kept it with its current config. Thanks for your input. Cheers. ∞Who?¿? 01:55, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

Lens categorization
editI see you have been involved in the categorization of lenses. I have moved all of the photographic lenses (and category:lenses by type) to a new category, category:photographic lenses, to separate them from other types of lens and allow me to reduce clutter and better orgainize category:optics.--Srleffler 22:14, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thats fine, and thanks for letting me know. However, I believe that category:lenses by type should be positioned above category:photographic lenses and below Category:Lenses since this keeps them organized by their usage and application. We probably also need a lens type category for (opthamological lenses?) i.e. glasses, contact lenses.. --Hooperbloob 22:51, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- I do not think there is a need for a "lenses by type" category between category:Lenses and category:photographic lenses. Right now, everything in category:lenses by type is a photographic lens. If this level of organization is not needed anymore, those lenses could all be moved up into category:photographic lenses, and the former category could be deleted. I assumed this category was created because there are a lot of different kinds of camera lenses, and someone thought it might be useful to sort or organize them by type, so I left the category alone. --Srleffler 03:09, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- I have moved all the lenses out of category:lenses by type, to clear the way for deleting it. If it's still useful to organize lenses by type, I think it would be much better to make appropriately-named categories directly under category:lenses (e.g. photographic lenses, opthalmic lenses, etc.), or under category:photographic lenses (e.g. zoom lenses, wide-angle lenses, etc.) I don't actually think there are enough lenses right now to merit splitting up the categories. If the number of articles grows, it may be worthwhile later.--Srleffler 02:35, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
- I was debating all this in my head the last few days. The reason the xxx-by-type was created was to separate the type of lens from the various models that the various fans write up. You can see how this is useful in helping to separate the various camera types Category:Cameras by type from the numerous cameras themselves (Category:cameras). In regards to the lenses I can't really see anything notable about the specific lenses listed so they're probably due for deletion. This would render the need for Category:Lenses by type moot for the time being. And yes, if it was to return we'd probably name it Category:Photographic lenses by type to be more accurate. --Hooperbloob 02:59, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Cricketer category
editHi. You deleted the "English cricketers" category from Jim Parks senior. The consensus in Wikiproject:Cricket is that there are separate categories for Test cricketers and for all cricketers from a country. I can see your logic that this is duplication, because it is, but maybe you should discuss on the Project talk page before making changes. And perhaps you'd like to join the project as a contributor. You'd be very welcome. :-) Johnlp 13:09, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

schools
edityes, i'm planning on getting to it and making them more in-depth. i might not get to tonight but it's a project i'll be working on. - 06:45, 6 March 2006 (UTC) actually, i'm going to bed now. but my plan is to create stubs and then articles for all the high schools in Jackson County, MO, and then the neighboring counties. 06:51, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Rather that document all the schools in your area I would suggest picking a few interesting ones and seeing if you can come up with some compelling content for them first before starting on any others. Its much better to have a few great articles than a lot of mediocre ones.--Hooperbloob 07:04, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, what i'm also hoping will happen is that it will allow others who aren't wiki-savvy to add in. for those who are just popping in and want to see if there's something new with thier school, they wouldn't know where to begin in creating thier own article and stubs allow them to add on what they know. -- 17:50, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Noise subcategorie
editYou wrote:
All of your articles on noise weighting & measurement seem to be scattered across a number of noise & sound-related categories. I'd suggest creating a new category for them but I'm flummoxed as to an appropriate name for them that would properly capture their semantics. Perhaps Category:Noise quantification ? --Hooperbloob 17:43, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
- I find that many many articles have no category or lack appropriate categories. I do not find categories very useful for searching, which is why I have introduced the Wikipedia:Root page concept, which 'ties down' a page to a central topic with easy navigation around the whole topic. Perhaps you would take a look at it - we need support to make it policy. I wouldn't bother with 'noise quantification', after all, most pages list multiple categories. The main one needed is Noise. --Lindosland 18:06, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Please make sure your hyphenation makes sense
editYou added some hyphens to the articles Quarter-comma meantone, Syntonic comma, and Schismatic temperament that made no sense. Apparently you assumed e.g. "four fifths" meant the fraction 4/5 so you hyphenated it "four-fifths", but if you had actually read it and understood the context, you would have seen it meant "four intervals of a fifth", so it makes no sense to hyphenate it. No harm done, but please be more careful in the future. —Keenan Pepper 16:48, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Your recent removal of categories from Relief valve
editYou recently removed Category:Chemical engineering and Category:Mechanical engineering from the Relief valve article because it was your personal judgement that they were not relevant enough. You are obviously not an experienced engineer if you don't know that 95% or more of the relief valves used in industrial plants are designed, specified and ordered to be installed by chemical and mechanical engineers. If you don't know that, then you should not be imposing your personal judgements as to the relevancy of categories in engineering or technical articles. If a category link is broken, or duplicated in a sub-category, or misplaced, or mis-spelled ... then by all means go ahead and fix them or remove them. But please stop imposing your unilateral personal judgements as to their relevancy. - mbeychok 04:47, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

A request for assistance
editWould you support the concept of moving the Earhart "myths" to a separate page or article? The reason for my suggesting this is that the main article should be an accurate and scholarly work while the speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart are interesting, they belong in a unique section. Most researchers, as you know, discount the many theories and speculation that has arisen in the years following her last flight. Go onto the Earhart discussion page and register your vote/comments...and a Happy New Year to you as well. Bzuk 03:02 3 January 2007 (UTC).

- Regarding spam warnings I think you have confused me with someone else. The article looks acceptable now but for the redundant categories. I'm more interested in keeping the article trimmed down to just the essentials, no need to include explanations about torque, etc, those can be had by following the existing links. Regarding categories, we try to park articles into the most specific categories to avoid creating parent categories that have so many articles that they lose meaning. I.e. all wrenches are in the Category:Wrenches, no need to also put them in the parent Category:Tools or others. Thanks for the article! --Hooperbloob 20:32, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Exmoor & Exmoor Forest
editHi, You have previously edited the Exmoor Forest article and I'd like to ask your thoughts on merging it with Exmoor which is much more substantial & does include something on the history of the royal forest. I have reverted your inappropriate removal of a valid category tag from Carburetor. Your edit summary (rm auto parts cat, no need to capture every last engine part) is puzzling and contrary, for the purpose of the auto parts category is to encompass articles about auto parts, and carburetors qualify as such. If you perceive some valid reason in accordance with Wikipedia policy why Carburetor should be excluded from the auto parts category, please discuss your point of view on the talk page and obtain consensus before removing the article from the category again. Thank you for being a coöperative Wikipedian. --Scheinwerfermann (talk) 15:59, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm having a go at MM right now. He kept adding US Chaos to the Ritz article, and himself to The Clash & Joe Strummer. It's evident he wrote his entire article himself. Little context in Category:Ducati motorcycle images
editHello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Ducati motorcycle images, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Ducati motorcycle images is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Ducati motorcycle images, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Comment
editPlease excuse me if I am editig incorrectly. I'm trying to respond (under "Torpex") to the question about the meaning of "Secondary Explosive":
High explosives are catregorized as "Primary" or "Secondary". Primary explosives are those that covert from "deflagration" (burning) to detonation with little or no confinement, while Secondary high explosives require a "primer" and/or "booster" to properly detonate. Mercury Fulminate would be an example of a primary while TNT and Glycerol tri-nitrate (Nitroglycerine) would be secondaries. Abockhau (talk) 12:51, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of PlaneTalk
editA proposed deletion template has been added to the article PlaneTalk, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Judy Wood
editThe page I created on Judy Wood is not a Resume.
She is the ONLY 9/11 researcher ever to file her evidence with a court of law, and one of her court cases made it all the way to the Supreme Court.
See the references in the article if you don't believe me.
She is very notable, and she is fighting for ALL OF US. I cannot believe you call the article a Resume, when it is far from that.
You are doing a disservice to Wikipedia by trying to censor the amazing and important research of Dr. Judy Wood.
Please knock it off.
-Abe
Abraham Hafiz Rodriguez 05:33, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
- While we always appreciate new contributions on Wikipedia, your article in its current form reads more like a puff piece with dubious links to Judy's own website. You're going to face an uphill battle trying to maintain it as is. For example, just about the only relevant category that applies to the article is one you haven't listed: Category:9/11 conspiracy theorists. --Hooperbloob (talk) 05:52, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Dr. Judy Wood Notability
editIsn't this a notable secondary source though?
Dr. Wood was invited to present her research on the very popular radio show, 'We Ourselves', hosted by Ambrose Lane. The radio station is WPFW 89.3 - Washington, D.C. The interview is all over the internet, but a direct link to it is here: http://www.weourselves.org/wpfw/052308.html
Please let me know. Thank you.
Abraham Hafiz Rodriguez (talk) 00:43, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- I would give Judy Woods a rest, seriously. Your own credibility over the topic has put her and you on the radar of a number of people and even if you came up with really good references from the NYTimes or Bloomberg you wouldn't be able to create the article anyways - the name is has been blocked for a while. If you really want to pursue it then I'd suggest creating a private page of your own to develop it. Nobody would fiddle with it and you can craft it until its acceptable. I could help you there. But the comments of the others are still very valid.--Hooperbloob (talk) 03:46, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- The two reasons given for the deletion of the content was: 1. She is not notable. 2. Copyright violation.
- I have copy right permission from her personally, and I was going to have her email the permissions list until all this happened.
- As for a notability, Dr. Wood is the only 9/11 researcher ever to file her evidence in a court of law, and her court case made it all the way to the Supreme court. She discusses her research and the court cases on the very popular Washington DC Radio Station WPFW 89.3, on the Ambrose Lane 'We Ourselves' show. There are many other places she has presented, but this is one of the most mainstream and credible places.
- Considering that Dr. Wood has done more to bring about truth and justice regarding 9/11 than many other 9/11 researchers who are mentioned in the 9/11 Truth Movement, I think some information about her should be added to the 9/11 Truth Movement wikipedia page.
- Abraham Hafiz Rodriguez (talk) 05:28, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, editing another article on the overall subject is a better place to start. Just be aware that print-oriented sources are preferred as these are much easier to verify - radio programs are ephemeral. Once an article grows too large then editors can agree to spawn off subsections into other articles. Just stay away from Judy Woods on her own for the time being.--Hooperbloob (talk) 14:45, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Reviewer
editHello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

editA tag has been placed on Category:Spacecraft decomissioned in 2009 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
