Hey guys. Looking at the section above, do you think I could upload that image. It is a screen shot from the game. Does this fall under the fair use clause? Thanks!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 16:50, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Gordonrox24, I think it is allowed for critical commentary (see WP:Fair use). But really you should ask Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Additionally you have a search box there that can help you to sort it out with old discussions. --Calimo (talk) 17:02, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
I notice that you nominated the article for GA. I think it's quite premature -- and I've done about 10 GA assessments. I would assess it at only a high C to low B level. It has way too few citations from WP:RS; there are lots of unreferenced statements. I think that you should pull the nomination. For a good idea of a minimal GA article, check out Mario Andretti. Notice how Mario's article at least mentions lesser areas like his USAC stock car career. Martin's article barely mentions his ASA days and it contains way too few details about how each NASCAR season went. The ASA seasons need to take up several paragraphs - I'd make it a whole section. Each NASCAR season needs to get fleshed out better, at the level his exists now from 2006 until the present. Each of his 39 wins should at least be mentioned by name in some fashion. His record number of wins in the Nationwide Series needs to be brought out more.
Please don't take this as an insult - you're made progress with getting this article better! I don't want you to get ambushed at GAN with having to fix an insurmountable number of items. If you want to see how I build a GA, keep your eyes on my complete redo of the David Pearson article in my sandbox. I plan to go big to make the article my 100th DYK (using the 5x expansion clause), so I'm building the article in my sandbox to be put online later. My strategy is build a structure for each year by adding the statistics first. Second I flesh out specific interesting races and events of the season. At the same time, I create sections on the person's personal life and legacy. I hope this is taken as constructive criticism. Royalbroil 13:10, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- If I were to review the article, I would give it an instant fail without giving you a chance to fix it. The problems are massive and everywhere. There isn't ANY content on the bulk of his career! Reading the article, he started in 1987 and retired in 2005. There are no details about this minor and inconsequential part of his career (sarcasm starts here). So he retired after doing nothing. Even though he did nothing, he somehow had 39 wins. Then after he retired, he started doing something. Now, 3-4 years are first "retiring", he's somehow become a top notch driver. So the article is severely unbalanced with an undue weight to his career after his "retirement". Another instant fail problem is that there are way too many unsourced statements. An article is expected to be clean and have no maintenance items. I can mark the article with contentious unsourced statements to give you the massive amount of work right now. To summarize, the article is relatively unsourced and it misses the bulk of his career. For this article to be worked will taken many dozens of hours. I wouldn't give you that much leeway. I have added the expansion maintenance tag to the article. Until it is fixed up with a better balance, it will be an instant fail at GA. I don't want to see an article this watered down to somehow get passed GA by an inexperienced GA reviewer. I'm willing to work with you to give you pointers and to tell you when you get close enough to make a future GA attempt. Royalbroil 12:16, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey guys,
Once again I require help with a Wiki running on MediaWiki software that is not owned by the MWF. Is there any way I can get the main page of a Wiki to have no title, similar to en's main page. As it stands the Main page is in the article space and has Main Page in the area where the title of an article always sits. What can I do to remove this title? Thanks.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 00:44, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Here we do that with CSS. Take a look at the start of MediaWiki:Monobook.css. Algebraist 00:48, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- You might want to just disable the Main Page header, by adding this to MediaWiki:Common.css;
/* Do not show page title on the Main Page */ body.page-Main_Page h1.firstHeading { display:none; }
- Then, you can add whatever you want to the actual page; if you want something that looks the same as the main page heading, use a level 1 header; = Foo =

Hey guys. I am buy no means an image expert, but I do recall reading once that all fair use images resolution must be reduced. Is this correct? I was just looking at this image and it is in full resolution. If it needs to be reduced I will do it, but I am not sure... Thanks!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 16:45, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yo Gordon. WP:NFCC criterion 3 applies here: "Low- rather than high-resolution/fidelity/bit rate is used (especially where the original could be used for deliberate copyright infringement). This rule also applies to the copy in the File: namespace." The general rule of thumb I go by is that the image should be cut to the smallest size that fulfills its purpose. For most fair use images, such as book covers, that's the max thumbnail size (i.e. 300x300px), but I'm not sure that applies for screenshots. A good idea would be to look for featured articles in the same area as the article you're editing as see how they've handled the matter, as fair use compliance is often checked rigourously during FA reviews. Hope this helps, and try asking at WP:MCQ or perhaps WT:NFCC if you want more info. Regards, Skomorokh, barbarian 16:54, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Reading ROBLOX article - some comments
Can you make the following edits if you think they are good ideas:
1) I think the article titled "A Lego-based..." should be removed, because the title of this article improperly uses the word Lego as a generic description (like Kleenex or Jeep). I.e the author of this article if not using the word Lego correctly.
2) I think the reference to 2.3M in revenue is really that they "raised 2.3 million" in capital.
Jamesequity (talk) 03:52, 1 November 2009 (UTC)jamesequity
- Well, I added the "2.3M" on the article. I do agree that I should change it, as I will right now. Jeremjay24 20:39, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
A question for you
Hi there,
You commented on my first RFA, and cited a lack of experience as your reason for opposing. The time since my last RFA is coming up on 3 months, which seemed to be the general timeframe that people wanted me to wait. I'm coming to you now to ask you if it would be possible for you to take another look at my edits, and see what other advice you might give to me (both in editing style, location, and experience in general). I would greatly appreciate the time that you take to do this, and I ask that you not "sugarcoat" your reply. Tell me honestly what you think is my best course of action as an editor.

- Simple. Don't do what I do and you should be fine. :lol: --Malleus Fatuorum 01:36, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- (holy crap you're enthusiastic) For sure, definitely talk to KoH. Most people who regular RfA want at least 3000 edits and 6 months between RfAs (unfortunately...). I will probably support since you're really, really enthusiastic, and doing some pretty good work. One thing that stands out to me is that you don't have very many contributions in admin-related areas since your last RfA. Try new page patrolling and participating more in AfDs (which reminds me, I need to get back on AfD work too...). I'll reply with more later, as I currently have history homework to do...--Unionhawk Talk E-mail Review 01:57, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, new page patrolling, which Unionhawk proposed, is certainly an area where one can make many mistakes, so it would fit the bill of my first comment in your RfA. However, I disagree with the classification of any particular area as "admin-related". All of Wikipedia is admin-related. That said, Unionhawk's advice is probably good: It's just human for voters to expect a candidate to be good in what they do themselves, and there seems to be a preponderance of voters these days in the area of new page patrolling. My own preference, though, would be if you could show experience as a mediator. — Sebastian 03:53, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Note: I replied to the above before I realized that the page was transcluded. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's very unusual. I would have preferred a short message asking me to reply on this page, which would have been more transparent. — Sebastian 04:03, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
I personally do not care how long candidates wait before a rerun, but I always like to play it safe when actually running for something or nominating someone for something. The general wisdom seems to be to wait 6 months if the first RfA failed in uncontroversial circumstances. Now again, if you ran now, you would be more likely than not to pass, but waiting three more months will make your chances even better. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 05:03, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- Heh - I thought my page was popular until I saw the above from Sebastian about the transclusion :) I'll have a look and get back to you. Pedro : Chat 07:43, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'll be honest MacMed, I would consider opposing you just for using a talk page template like this. Wikipedia can be a confusing place, and it is very important that we admins not communicate in overly elaborate or clever ways. This template is pretty cool, but not something that an admin should use. This is the type of intangible that any RfA candidate needs to be cognizant off when asking for suggestions. That said, the most important thing to take away from my comment is not that you should change your behavior simply to pass an RfA. Rather, you should ask if said change in behavior is something worth doing just to become an RfA. If you like working here in one way, and the admin responsibilities would prevent you from enjoying the project in that manner, is the mop actually something you want? Hiberniantears (talk) 03:18, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- In an honest reply, I figured it would be easier to watch just one page instead of the 6 talks. However, hindsight is 20/20, and per Sebastian's comment above I would likely follow his advice in the future and simply leave a link to this page. This isn't a big part of what I do on Wikipedia, and I don't think it would decrease my enjoyment to change a simple thing like a talk page message. Thanks for your opinion though. Regards, MacMedtalkstalk 03:28, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- At least you got to figure that out with a group of pretty experienced editors, rather than a group of newbies. If you're going to do something like this, where you want input from a bunch of editors, I would post a link to a discussion thread (like this) to the talk pages of the editors, rather than transcluding it.--Unionhawk Talk E-mail Review 03:36, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

My RFA - your oppose concerns
Hi Gordonrox24, my "quiet period" is finally over and now I can respond to the concerns you raised at my RFA.
- The first incident, over the article tagging: yes, I could have just removed the prod tag from the Bombardier article, but I looked at your edit history at the time and as I recall, I saw an enthusiastic new editor who was using deletion tags incorrectly in several places, not just at that article, and not just with the prod tag. This led me to think that there was a real possibility for damage to the encyclopedia, because if you make one mistake, then the reviewing admin makes a mistake, and no-one else notices, we've lost something valuable. Also, you seemed to be saying at the time something like "this article doesn't meet my own standards, but I'm too busy with my own important work, so if someone else doesn't fix it, then it should be deleted". That doesn't really fly on a such a large site where we all have to work together, care about each other, and care about the content. I really was trying to help you understand how it all works, especially because I could see that you were an enthusiastic but still pretty new editor. You kind of brushed me off, which is not a big problem for me, except there was that possibility of actual damage happening from the combination of your enthusiasm, relative inexperience (then), and someone else not paying close enough attention. That's why I kept on going, trying to help you understand. Believe me, I didn't enjoy a single second of it, I just felt it was something I had to do.
- The second one, about your sig, I didn't have to do. I'd been kind of keeping an eye out on what you were doing, not intervening at all, just watching. If I remember correctly, you had an RFA not going well, Lara asked you a Q, and you responded in a not-cooperative way. I understand your explanation now that you had no good answer, so responded with a question. What I saw at the time was what had raised my concern in the first place, which was that you would take a defiant attitude. I tried to chime in at what I thought was a "teachable moment", to explain that a defiant attitude wasn't the best way to get along here and that Jenna was Lara and you should know that. The underlying bit there was not that "some people are better than others", but that if you want to be an admin, you really really need to know who the other admins are, who the main editors are, who the major trouble-stirrers are - because at the very least, some of those people can totally sink your RFA, and at best, this is to some degree a "social" website in that we all need to know each other and get along as best we can.
- Now on that second intervention, yeah, what was I thinking? You have an RFA tanking, someone you don't know comes along and questions your sig, and now here comes FranaJERK to tell you there was something else you should have already known too. Oh yeah, Grox is really going to respond well there. :) If I could do that again, I would probably just have kept my mouth shut. Again, I was really trying to help, but I can totally see how you would see it as badgering. I actually sent Lara a PM asking how I could have handled that differently and she gave me a few tips. I can only ask you to believe me that my intentions were good, and I wasn't aware you were still that pissed about the first thing, otherwise yeah, I would have stayed quiet.
- I see you're on wiki-break right now and I hate to think it would have anything to do with me. You seem to be very enthusiastic and that's the kind of people we need. And for all I know, 99.99% of every tag you've ever placed was right (can't tell 'cause, you know - I'm not an admin :)
- When you come back, I hope we can start over from today, no hard feelings? I'll tell you now that anything you want or any questions you have, you can feel free to ask me any time and I will do my best to help. You can use my talk page or my email link and I will respond. I may not agree with you, but I will do my best to help. I know that early experiences with anything new can leave a lasting impression, and I don't want your early experiences with me to leave any kind of bitter taste.
Sorry for the extreme length of this post, but it's something I've thought a lot about since, well, from the first time we met. I owe you this explanation. Regards and hope to see you back editing soon! Franamax (talk) 06:30, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, I forgot: I've watched quite a few RFA's and I think maybe you were the first editor I've ever seen who opposed a candidate, then went on to oppose another opposer's oppose rationale. I think that speaks well of your character, it implies that you care about principles. I was impressed with that. :) Franamax (talk) 10:12, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Franamax. I must first congratulate you on your successful RfA. And secondly, I must thank you for taking the time to write all of that for me. I can fully understand your concerns at the time, and I can hardly say that I was acting appropriate in the least. My Wiki-break is influenced by my online duties elsewhere, as well as my foray into the Simple English Wikipedia.
- Once again, thank you for taking the time to leave me a note. I am sure that you will make a great administrator. Best of luck, and happy editing!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 15:55, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
monkeys
A few months ago you asked on the RefDesk whether monkeys are a taxon. The answer you got was “no” but in my view that response is based on too narrow a view of the term “taxon”. Allowed to edit Roblox article?
You're a forum moderator now, which could be the staff, and WP doesn't allow that. Do you think you're allowed to contribute on the article? Jeremjay24 21:28, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- In reality I am not staff, I am a volunteer. I'm not even really allowed to represent ROBLOX in any official capacity off of the roblox site. That is like saying somebody who volunteers for UNICEF can't edit that article. You could argue that I have a conflict of interest, but I don't think that is the case as I always edit with a neutral point of view. It doesn't really matter, as I don't really add content to the article anymore, I just do maintenenace, like fixing the images, or fixing spelling mistakes and other small stuff like that.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 22:33, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

The article Jack Christie has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I can find no evidence that this driver ever existed and he certainly never drove in formula one. Reference is a dead link.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Drdisque (talk) 02:18, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Dear Gordonrox24, here is a little note to say thank you for your kind vote on my request for adminship which failed with a final result of (40/19/12).
Thank you for your participation in my RfA which I withdrew after concerns of my knowledge of policy. Special thanks are owed to Coffee, who defended me throughout and whom I cannot thank enough for the nomination; to 2over0 for being supportive and helpful; to A Stop at Willoughby for the thorough, thoughtful and articulate support rationale; to IP69.226.103.13 for maintaining composure and for a pleasant interaction on my talk page and, last but not least, to Juliancolton who was good enough to close the RfA at my request and, frankly, because an editor whom I respect so much found the time to support me! If the need for more admins at the main page is still apparent in a few months, I may try again. Thank you all for a relatively drama-free RfA and for providing me with much material from which to learn from my mistakes. You're all welcome to drop by my talk page any time. Article of the month – 2010 Toyota/Save Mart 350, new Good Article.
The 2010 Toyota/Save Mart 350 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held on June 20, 2010 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. Contested over 110 laps, it was the sixteenth race of the 2010 Sprint Cup Series season and the first of two road course competitions on the schedule. The race was won by Jimmie Johnson, for the Hendrick Motorsports team. Robby Gordon finished second, and Kevin Harvick, who started fourth, clinched third. Conditions were sunny at the start of the race, making the track potentially slippery. Pole position driver Kasey Kahne maintained his lead into the first corner, but Johnson, who had started in the second position on the grid, took the lead before the first lap was over. Kahne suffered an ill-handling car during the beginning of the race, causing him to fall to seventh by the sixth lap. Seven laps before the finish, race leader Marcos Ambrose, turned his car off to try to save fuel, but he could not refire the engine and subsequently stalled. He dropped back from the lead to sixth place with seven laps remaining, allowing Kahne to finish fourth and Jeff Gordon fifth. There were eight cautions and twelve lead changes among eight different drivers throughout the course of the race, Johnson's fourth win of the season and his first ever at Infineon. The result moved him up four spots to second in the Drivers' Championship, 140 points behind of leader Kevin Harvick and one ahead of Kyle Busch. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, nine points ahead of Toyota and forty-three ahead of Dodge, with twenty races remaining in the season. help me
I believe you are in charge of monitoring edits to the National Alliance for Youth Sports page. I work for the company and created this page 2 years ago. I finally have some time to make changes to the page and you seem to be blocking my edits. I was trying to update the page with new accurate information about our company and I would like to know how to proceed.
Sincerely,
Rswindlehurst (talk) 15:49, 4 August 2010 (UTC)Ryan Swindlehurst Special Projects Coordinator NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR YOUTH SPORTS
I want to follow the appropriate steps and procedures when updating our page but it is somewhat confusing about the promotional delimma we seem to be causing. I want to add the right information and not be deleted because if I keep getting deleted it is wasting my time. I can assure you the information is valid and most of it comes directly from our website www.nays.org. I am confused because every company's page would be somewhat promotional when you think about it. I am trying to help wikipedia and my company have the most accurate and up to date information for the public to view. If adding more detail to a timeline or programs description that we run that has already been posted on wikipedia for 2 years is wrong then I am not sure I know of a way to add information correctly.

The 2010 Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee was the fifth race of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. The race began at 1 p.m. EDT on March 21, 2010. The 2010 Food City 500 was televised on Fox and broadcast on PRN radio. This race marked the last appearance of the rear wing on the Car of Tomorrow, with the spoiler returning the following race. This race also was the first of three in Carl Edwards' probation following his altercation with Brad Keselowski at the previous race at Atlanta Motor Speedway; Keselowski was sent airborne, subsequently crashing on his side door. The race had 13 different leaders, 39 lead changes and 10 cautions. The race attendance of 138,000 marked the end of a long streak of sellout seats at the track, which has a capacity of 158,000. Article of the month – Alan Kulwicki, selected as a good article
Alan Dennis Kulwicki (December 14, 1954 – April 1, 1993), nicknamed "Special K" and the "Polish Prince", was an American NASCAR Winston Cup Series (now Sprint Cup Series) racecar driver. He started racing at local short tracks in Wisconsin before moving up to regional stock car touring series. Kulwicki arrived at NASCAR, the highest and most expensive level of stock car racing in the United States, with no sponsor, a limited budget, and only a racecar and a borrowed pickup truck. Despite starting with meager equipment and finances, he earned the 1986 NASCAR Rookie of the Year award over drivers racing for well-funded teams. After Kulwicki won his first race at Phoenix International Raceway, he debuted what would become his trademark "Polish Victory Lap". Kulwicki won the 1992 Winston Cup championship by what was then the closest margin in NASCAR history. He died early in 1993 in a light aircraft accident, and was unable to defend his championship. He has been inducted into numerous racing halls of fame and was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers. Kulwicki was known for being a perfectionist and doing things his own way. An engineer by trade, his scientific approach to NASCAR racing inspires the way teams are now run. Despite lucrative offers from top car owners, he insisted on driving for his own race team, AK Racing, during most of his NASCAR career. Described by his publicist as "a real hard type of person to get to know", he remained a bachelor throughout his life. RfA
Many people are not happy with the RFA process, it's unfortunate that little is being done to fix it.
- Ah, but there is! Amid the positive comments on fractured discussions in what are possible not quite the most logical places, something may have to happen soon. Please consider chiming in and helping to make the discussion at WT:RfA more focused so that eventually an RfC can be started on some concrete proposals for change.--Kudpung (talk) 06:46, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Article of the month – Auto Club Speedway, a recent good article
Auto Club Speedway (formerly California Speedway) is a two-mile (3 km), low-banked, D-shaped oval superspeedway in Fontana, California which has hosted NASCAR racing annually since 1997. The track was also used for open wheel racing events until 2005. The racetrack is located near the former locations of Ontario Motor Speedway and Riverside International Raceway.
